pvp is really different from pve. you may wanna practice on hj first. probably play 100 games or more there then you can start playing unranked.

A full on spirit team would be, if not the most effective, most interesting, especially in a scenario where they could all stay together. 1 600 health/second from Spirit of Nature alone, now that could make for some very interesting scenarios. Each ranger brings the hyena as well.

Timed properly that would bring 20 spirits and 10 pets in one small location. I would LOVE to see that someday, just for the fun of it!

you are right, spirit range is still the most effective build for rangers on tpvp.

2 celestial spirit rangers both using traveler runes and have burst damage from the storm spirit active skill (1 as a home bunker and the other one as a team fighter at mid). 1 celestial trapper to help at mid. 2 power rangers who would constantly rotate between nodes.

condi survival is just too selfish to play on conquest mode. all they do is bunker and they won’t be able to kill players fast enough to help their teammates.

this game is about who can stack might quicker and burst heal faster.

anet pls buff Call Lightning at least 20% more burst damage. I won’t ask for the 35% damage that you nerfed from it. Thank you.

Cele spirit ranger with traveler runes. I’ve been having a lot of wins lately on my ranger. 2 thieves and 1 mesmer on my team, no problem. It can bunk as good as a cleric guardian and can burst as good as a zerk thief (call lighting hitting up to 4k by stacking might and fury. lol).

Rangers stacking on one team is actually good. I’ve had some matches with 2 other rangers and more and still won in the end. Pew pew pew is not just fun but highly effective.

Disclaimer: This is only for unranked. I don’t que for ranked anymore. No team to play with and the queue just takes forever.

spirit ranger is still the best support build for rangers. just a small alteration is needed. instead of using settler, rabid, or carrion, i use celestial for it’s balanced stat. i have noticed that the storm spirit still crits up to 3.9k. you guys should try it.

i use celestial on my spirit ranger. storm spirit crits up to 3.9k so there’s no way i’m dropping that spirit. it can outburst a cele d/d ele if you time call lightning well. i hope this helps.

I just want to share this build that I’m using in pvp. The burst on the storm spirit still hits like a truck probably better than what it was before. I think this build is a bit stronger than d/d eles with celestial amulet. I’ve fought some d/d eles using this build and they melt really fast. Maybe you guys should try it. This could be the next meta ranger build for us better than zerk LB and the good ole carrion spirit ranger.

Seriously though, I generally play staff ele, and hadn’t noticed it was OP. I’ve faced D/D eles with my warrior/necro/ranger and taken down quite a few, but also got killed myself more times then I care to admit. Does this mean they are OP? Nope. I got killed by a mesmer the other day too, that must mean mesmers are OP and needs to be nerfed.

I am not the greatest PvP player ever, but if I can survive a D/D ele and kill them, using any class, then they certainly are not OP.

I really dont care much about the longbow and i am more concerned on improving our condi bunker builds. I know a lot of the ranger community have always wanted to go frontline and up close. We need more options for us to support our allies. The best build we ever had that was more of team-based was the spirit ranger build. When anet nerfed it, i knew that we would be placed at the very bottom of the tier. They should have given us other options after. Buffing our shortbow weapon would definitely help us to be on par with other classes.

So I see the word “viable” being thrown around this thread a lot, and saying this I really hope it doesn’t come off as being a jerk. I think it’s safe to say no one in this thread (me included) plays at the highest levels of pvp? I’m talking like tog levels of pvp. Now with that being said there’s a multitude of “viable” specs that a ranger can run in average level pvp. Yes zerk lb deals crazy damage at ranged, just get close to it and bait out signet. Yes the condi bunker can hold a side node really well, 2v1 him with an ele or guardian. I have had a lot of success running Sb axe/dagger, so I don’t see why axe horn wouldn’t work as well? Axe stacks a ridiculous amount of might on our pets, which people neglect far to often. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the Na KotH ranger thread? But the person with the most title defenses is a Cele Lb- sword/axe ranger. At the average level of play.. There are plenty of specs to choose from.

Bunkering a node has always been a ranger’s forte. Rangers can outlast any bunker guardian anytime. Anet, should revert the changes they made on our bunker builds to make us really viable and game breaking. Just what i have said, we deserve so much more than this rapid fire buff.

Actually my friend, no offense, but I have played a longer time than you, and not only that, but I realize that based on your text that you are not very cunning about the ranger class, just because one watches tournaments doesn’t make one a skillful player. Lol somebody tries a build that is normally sub-par but it worked despite the odds(Even the lottery you can win it but low odds)

Don’t missunderstand my thread, Longbow rangers are nothing special, neither are they OP, this was not said even once in this thread. 99% of all Rangers I meet nowadays in PvP have a Longbow on, pointing to a FoTM spec. I’m not a noob ranger either, I have played Ranger for more than 600 days, most of those days the Shortbow was like it’s supposed to be, so why should I switch now. If there’s only 2 builds to a class, and one is great, but one is bad, shouldn’t the bad build be buffed in comparison so it can also be viable and an alternative.

Variety is what Ranger’s middle name should be, but seeing the past nerfs and the mindset ATM on some rangers, some rangers like that the ranger is basically a one trick pony ATM, either spirit ranger, LB ranger or condi ranger, and condi ranger is very weak in comparison, not bad but weak in COMPARISON.

Just because some rangers like the LB build or just because some rangers don’t play shortbow there’s no reason to keep it this weak in comparison, even though you don’t play it we need some variety to our class and ranger’s who don’t like to play mainstream should have their build also viable, all ranger’s should not be forced to go one build because it’s the most viable.

Let me spell it out for you, lb zerk ranger build is not viable. Pvp wise, we have 0 build viable build on high level plays. It’s the truth. We deserve more than this rapid fire buff. Our strongest build is still the condi bunker build but compared to other classes, that build falls short.

what about thief + mesmer combo? the majority of the teams run it and usually double ele comps are dd+staff and not double dd.

i love using shortbow because of how versatile it is. I sure would love to get its requirement to bleed target by flanking deleted. This change would definitely help rangers a lot. The weapon set that you prefer is the exact same weapon set i use when i command in wvw on my ranger. It has almost been a year now that we have taken a hiatus on pvp after the spirit ranger so i think we really deserve a good comeback and not just a mediocre comeback but something that would put us to the top. This rapid fire buff didnt even make rangers viable in high tier matches it’s a joke. We deserve so much better.

Ranger is not OP. Ranger needs huge help. After anet nerfed the spirit build this class has become a joke . You need extreme effort to make this class effective. The difference between a good and a bad ranger is managing the pets . Learn how to play this class before you say it is op. I had a lot of new rangers asked me to help them because they were having difficulty playing the class. I just told them that it takes time to master it. If they are not ready to invest time to learn it then it is not the class for them.

ele needs a nerf because they are obviously overperforming on this current meta. That spot that they are on right now should be given to another class. This meta has gotten dry and it is just crying for a huge change. I really dont give a flipping kitten how anet will nerf this class but they have to do it fast. If might stacking is the issue then address it, if it is the class ability to bunker and heal then address it, and if it’s the ele’s mobility then address it.

Stop defending this class because you all know it is overperforming in a lot of ways.

Shortbow is the best weapon to go frontline. You would be hitting them on medium range that allows you to avoid the cc’s. You can use use this weapon to stun fleeing foes and let your zerg gank your target. Use healing spring to clear conditions and immobilize. Use your spirits to aoe blind and immobilize. Use signet of stone if you need to get past some arrow carts but i suggest to keep SOTH for mobility. You can use entangle for a surprise cc from a mesmer’s veil. There are so many ways for a ranger to be effective at the frontline.

Besides, i dont play much pvp now and when i do, i play on my lvl 10 ranger and he is an asura and the name is not even prince valentine. It would take a really long time to kill my ranger because he is not a zerkbow but a bunker. And also, i am on a vacation right now with my family and i didn’t bring my laptop with me. Last time, i played gw2 i was commanding DR and capped the whole eb.

This is pointless. These people will keep defending this class. I get it that it was garbage for a year but it’s gotten its place on the spotlight for too long already. Give that spot to other professions. Rangers and probably mesmers have been out of the meta for more than a year now. It wouldn’t hurt for these classes to get the comeback that they are itching for. Top teams would even choose to play 2 eles on their team and that is just as clear as day that this class is overperforming.

problem is that ele (This time) is pretty balanced…celestial + might stacking isn’t…and not only on eles…just look at sword offhand wars and celestial engis for example..

+1 to that. Ele itself hasn’t recieved many game changing updates, but the changes to gear/runes/sigils made it as strong as it was around launch.

A slight nerf to might stacking would probably bring several meta builds down a notch while keeping them viable.

This class needs a huge nerf. It’s time for this class to be placed at the bottom tier. All classes had a share of that misfortune so i dont see anything wrong for this class to get the same kind of punishment. We need a god kitten new set of classes to climb up at the top of the meta.

Wrong. Eles were strong during the first months of gw2 and they got nerfed and they were buffed during the last quarter of 2013. It is almost a year now that ele has been ruling the meta. Gw2 needs a new set of meta classes to attract more players. They can’t just let a class be strong for a really long time. They will bore a lot of people and push them to go somewhere else.

This game desperately needs a new meta. It is obvious. We are bored and we need variation.

Leave thieves alone. This class has received the worst nerfs from the september patch and those at the top of the meta was not even touched. Thieves already had problems dealing with bunker builds before the patch. What more do you want?

There’s a need for a new meta. I don’t care whatever class would replace eles but just kittening kick them out of that throne already. It’s lame and so god kitten boring. I command in wvw and i play a ranger while doing it. All you need to do is build for toughness and condition . you can go for a spirit ranger to buff your allies. When i command i don’t let my enemies stack and empower, i just go straight ahead and fight them. Use your wolf’s fear to cc some of them so that you can isolate your target. Usually, i make sure i kill the necros and eles first.

Just do a lot of people a favor and nerf this cursed class already. It’s almost a year now since anet gave the opportunity for this class to rule the meta and it is boring a lot of people. Get a kittening clue, anet.

Nope. I’ve been here since BM was op as kitten. I just started playing wvw more now because of how boring pvp has become. I dont get it why anet made this huge mistake to give ele an upper hand again. Seriously, not everybody wants to use magic and elements. A mage-like class is not everybody’s cup of tea. Some people are being forced to play this because of how strong and OP it is. The amount of dps it has is too much for it’s ability to tank and heal. Everybody knows that. So stop defending it. Not everybody is having fun right now.

pvp is a joke. you cant let a class rule the meta for a long time or else people would get bored and leave. Ele has already had enough of that spotlight, it’s time for that class to take a vacation AGAIN.

Just dodge the knockback, get up-close and enjoy the kill. Simple as that.

People should know that a ranger’s longbow’s dps is highly punished in close range. GS is a very bad weapon. All it’s attack are very obvious and most ranger will not use their burst using this weapon.
