A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.

You’re looking at the xpac the wrong way.

On the one hand some people say the xpac is overpriced flat out. It’s debatable but basically it has no sub and a fair store that doesn’t pay gate necessary aspects of the game. You also get quite a bit of free content updates and server maintenance. You’re getting a lot for your money. But if you think it’s unfair, that’s fine it’ll probably go on sale at some point and you’ll still get a lot of content in the form of pvp, wvw, and class changes. Vote with you’re wallets, I won’t argue with you.

Others are saying the xpac is totally reasonable for many of the reasons listed above. You’ll support the game no matter what because you love it. That’s fantastic. It’s a terrific game that’s been kept afloat by you interest and generosity. I personally have no problem with the $50 price tag to support a terrific company.

My problem, and I’ve seen it a few other places, is what we’re getting for upgrading an existing account. Which is nothing. I’m now faced with either getting the game and creating a new account, thereby giving me 5 more character slots and a bank’s worth of storage space, or losing all that for the sake of the character’s I’ve invested my time and effort in. I get nothing for upgrading an account other than I get to take my characters with me.

That’s a difficult choice for me at least, and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I’d suggest some kind of incentive for returning players. I’d suggest something like 1500 gems so we can get a new character slot and some goodies off the gem store. It costs them nothing and would fix many of the problems people are having. I’ll be disappointed if nothing is done about this…

Let me do the most simplest math for you.

Current Guild Wars 2 players.. They paid either from $10-60 (depending on promotional deal) And now HoT at $50. Thats around either $60-$110.

New players only pay $50, because the core game is included.

Semi new players, bought the core game first thinking this is what was going to be required, and some had bought the core game at the PAX (south?) announcement, so that is well over 30 days, and can’t get a refund.

If ANet actually had respect for its current players, they would have offered them say a $30 expansion upgrade option instead if the core game was found on their account.(and price would be higher for deluxe or ultimate accordingly). Lets just say a flat out $20 discount across all packages. I think a lot more people that currently play would be much happier, but now there is some rage over on reddit.

Don’t get me started on people that bought 1 character slot just for the Revenant, and then end up getting one from deluxe and up.

Anyways I think you understand my point.

I am not trying to say this is certain, but I thought I heard ANet state something about needing the base game first. And on top of that.. People that bought a character slot just for revenant, yeah… -_-

Also why didn’t ANet offer a cheaper upgrade deal for current GW2 players?

What helps is turn Sound quality to Fastest, then change character model limit to lowest.

Even if you have a good computer, this helps stop crashing due to heavy graphic fights.

Just an update I just got access to my character in Frostgorge sound.

Left that horrible map, never to return !

So this is about 4 hours later.. still can’t get on my character stuck in Frostgorge Sound and is trying to load in on IP 10.28.74.160

The IP 10.28.74.160 when loading into whichever map is causing the problem

Whatever server is generating the ip 10.28.74.160 just needs to be taken offline to be fixed.

They’ve already confirmed they are aware of the issue, in the very thread you linked. Many maps are affected, and they are working on a permanent fix.

Yeah I seen that, and they also said by sometime yesterday.

I guess I can’t play for a good week.

Trying to get a friend to see if they can even get on map, then join their party then try to load on that character that is stuck and hopefully load into their map they are on..

They can’t get into the map atm either, and guesting isn’t helping.

Got done with Honor of the Waves story mode.. then I hit exit dungeon button.. and it said it was loading on map IP 10.28.74.160 .. which is not a normal IP for GW2.. if you go by the 64.25.33/8.xx standards..

I assume this is a lot of maps, or maybe just problems loading FROM Lion’s Arch to other maps.

I assume you were key farming, and logged in that character to check something, and then deleted it?

For a $20 item (1000 gems, but you need 1600 to buy it), I feel like this needs a bit of work. No one likes loading screens, and when you think about it.. The Captain’s Airship Pass.. you login (first loading screen) > Kick from ship (second loading screen) > double click pass (third loading screen).

Maybe setup a mechanic in game where if the player contains the airship pass in their inventory it wont remove them from the airship upon first loading screen. Same goes for the royal terrace. Whenever you login it kicks you out and then u gotta reuse it. I think just adding in that mechanic to “inventory check” before removing you would be better suited. You could even set it up, to check bank stash for the pass so if you were on an alt outside the airship you could still gain access.

I had this exact same problem. I had to down grade my video card drivers to make it work properly, so if you have installed GPU updates recently, I suggest a system restore before that. Then install the game update again, and see if you still have the problem.

So how does 1 help a friend get upgrades?

A lot of the upgrades are consumables you get in the mail, so why can’t we gift these to our friends?

So I tried dying the new Balthazar Outfit, and the upper left one dyes basically the whole outfit, and the bottom right one on the dye panel doesn’t do anything.

i zoomed in all the way for these. the first screen is without “adjust to character height” checked. i seem to remember the camera going higher up than this, shoulder height. the second screenshot has the option checked, and the camera is now centered seemingly over her head. the camera height slider is nearly useless at this distance as it looks like it’s only meant to work for zoomed out.

it is quite possible that i’ve missed something incredibly simple, i am not a smart man. but i feel like the camera was inbetween these two extremes when last i played and the new options are very unhelpful. again thanks for listening and helping, i know you guys have other things you could be doing

Maybe try unchecking adjust to character’s height, then moving vertical bar to about half way?

Honestly, $10 per 100g directly from ANet sounds like a win to me. Not talking about buying gems and converting. I’m talking about ANet offering gold for $10 per 100g. So $100 per 1,000g, sounds like a fair trade.

Here’s what I think would be a good idea. Trick the gold sellers into “delivering” gold to one of ANet’s accounts.. so ANet could ban the gold seller’s suppliers

It was the estimated number I came up with, I could have spent as much as 2100 gems worth, and got all 6 as far as I know, but this is how it ended up being for me.

I came into game around end of July of 2014, so I didn’t get the chance to get them. and as I seen they put them in BLC, I knew SAB was never going to happen anytime soon.

I could have only ended up spending maybe $100 if I was lucky enough.

I ended up getting 2 permanent contracts by the time I spent $150 lol

Costed me around $300 USD to get them all from the lovely RNG we have going for us.

Is this really how ANet does things?.. I would have much rather bought the Mini’s in a pack from the gemstore instead.
