for the leveling process i’d recommend to use GS and Staff, GS for killing normal mobs and staff for vets and tougher enemies
I agree, but it sucks that we are forced to use focus to have a bit of travel speed.
No, I won’t allow this game to look like a cheap asian knock off.
You won’t allow? Are you saying you are the majority stockholder? Oh, you must be in charge at Anet? Or maybe you have an OPINION, just like everyone else.
Edit: Looking at your above post….are you saying that you’re just trolling?
(edited by Villious.8530)
I agree with you. It’s small things like this that made some of the add-ons worthwhile in other MMOs. Just having a small intermittent, out of the way popup or sound when a friend/guildie logs in, would be awesome. Of course give the option to disable it as well.
Esport should be dragged out into the back yard, shot, burned and buried.

DITTO……..thank you!
Seriously I have nothing against Elementalist class but their Aoe; Meteor Shower need be addresed a.s.a.p.
We the community are already having a Painful Long Suffering experience with Thief class, why than allow and add another class to the Irony?
I’m really trying my best in dealing with thieves, than this; Elementalist Aoe.
I’m not saying that thief stealth shouldn’t be Ignored or Forgiven but it is far better than to deal with 1 than many.
As a Ranger class; as many already know, who is struggling to Survive, Enough is Enough
By Allowing Elitist classes OverPunishing the core balance of the game.
I believe all classes should be allowed to have Equal amount of Op skills, yet that is not the case especially with having Thief, and Elementalist classes completely in Violation Intent of Unbalance classes and the core game factor.
Seriously I do like the Elementalist class but they just need to be tamed more.
That’s all

+1 for big shoulders with particle effects!
“I was making fun of OP for complaining about getting stuff for AP.”
Sry, this really will my last post regarding this.
When did I ever complain?
My whole point was, and still, is, the fact that these badges
are-tailored-towards-a-specific-aspect-of-the-game.
They are useless for anyone else.
We’ll, perhaps not useless then, but certainly not considered valid rewards. And that fact makes them a redundant part for anyone who has worked to his or hers achievement count in the hope that there will a reward at the end of it.
We did not expect that a big part of that reward would be of no use to us.I’ve made no complaints, other than to point out that,
Anet, no matter how much PvP stuff you throw at me, I will never PvP.
I will, however continue to enjoy your PvE.Now I’ll sign off.
There are signs that this thread won’t end well.T
I don’t PvP either, but I use the badges for ascended gear. It’s the same as FREE laurels.
And yes, you’ve been complaining the entire thread.
Complaining
Present participle of com·plain (Verb)
Express dissatisfaction or annoyance about a state of affairs or an event.Wut??? How do you do that? I have many badges too, I just dont know what to do with them because I never was interested in pvp. Maybe wvw but not untill I am finished with pve.
So basicly people who do not pvp, what do you do with the badges. I’ve seen people buying weapons and armour, can you use that in pve? I think not, but I dont know anything about it.
Yes, you can go to the WvW area and buy armor/weapons with your badges and use them in PvE. Free stuff!
Also, there is an Ascended Merchant in the WvW area, and you can substitute 250 badges for 10 laurels, so 250 badges ARE 10 laurels.
As others have said, you can buy blueprints and sell them on the TP for gold. So these badges are far from worthless. I for one, would love to have more! :-)
Reading the replies, and tips on what to do with the badges,
I realize I should have done some research before posting…I’ll do that next time :-)

Good for you…you learned something from this thread. :-)

I wish Anet would stop giving me free gold. I don’t need handouts! Seriously, delete the badges if you hate them so much. Takes like two seconds of your time. Geez.
A. Its not free you have to get a certain amount of AP to get said rewards.
B. Not as if the handouts came at the expense of other players. Is managing items and inventory space efficiently a difficult concept to grasp?
Yes, I’m thinking it is……
Wish I could give the badges away, 10 stacks is too much and I’m sure there are those with a lot more. Please stop.
………right click……..delete……….problem solved.
Sorry, but, problem not solved, because, I know more are coming. If I could delete them and know they would stop coming I would do it in a heartbeat.
Uh……..WHAT???!!! It’s official. My head just exploded.
Ok, at this point I’m thinking this is just a troll post.

When someone gives you a GIFT, you don’t have a CHOICE. Be polite and say thank you, and move on.
Thanks for the badges Anet! Please keep them coming!
Using the mantra of recovery with the centaur runes can provide nearly 100% swiftness uptime. But you’re giving up many other useful stats for bleeding and swiftness.
If I’m correct, you must hit 6, wait 2.75 seconds, then hit 6 again to activate the heal. That’s a lot of button smashing to travel. Especially compared to +25 % everywhere you go without having to hit any buttons.
Agree @JustTrogdor^
I will clarify that I don’t do WvW/PvP. For me, I’m only talking PvE. It would be nice if the two could be separate so one isn’t hurt by the other.
Oh well, it is what it is, but I’m not sure why half the professions got it and half didn’t.
I think that’s the question I’m groping for as well…
Meant the portal.
Gotcha. I’d gladly give up the portal for 25% sigil. But that’s just me.
Learn to love the focus. Or stop being cheap and use Centaur runes.
Who said anything about cost? A superior rune of the centaur is only 71 silver, and centaur runes are just a 20% time increase. You still must use the focus.
Then I want gate on all my other alts too.
Sorry OP, but no.
As much as it hurts when I fire up my Mesmer. But who knows what ANet will cook up with the coming new traits and skills.
Hawk, what you you mean by “gate”?
I’ve played a Necromancer, Elementalist, Thief and Ranger. I’m now leveling a Mesmer, and the movement speed compared to the others is painfully slow. In order to get swiftness, you’re locked into using a focus.
Since all of the other “caster” professions and Thief, Ranger get a 25% run signet, would it be OP if all the professions got said run signet? If you equip the signet, you negate a different utility that might be better for combat, so there is a cost.
I’m not sure I can keep going with the Mesmer knowing I’ll always be a turtle in my travels. Anyone else hate that about the Mesmer?
I think the bigger issue is greed, not on the gold or money itself, but the “I need to have everything” mentality. The guild kite is unnecessary to play any of the content in the game.
Another “you don’t NEED it” reply. It’s official, my head just exploded. :-/
Everyone does realize that if Keil wins, the Cheaper Waypoints is only temporary, right?
Vote Evon, Fall of Abbaddon, if you want Thermanova, go to Metrica Province, it’s already there.
Uh, the key discount is temporary as well. Besides, not everyone buys keys. Everyone uses waypoints.
RNG? Death to Evon!!!!!
Down with RNG!!!! Kiel all the way!
LOL. I posted this in another thread where someone was complaining about the kites:
As you head from the bottom WP up to the Zephyr and land at the last lightning pull platform there is a child and a woman NPC. Every so often the dialog goes something like this:
Child: I want! I want! I want one mom!
Mother: Okay you can have one.
Child: But I want two! I want two!
I cracked up when I heard that. It reminds me of this forum every time there is some new skin, fun item, reward, or gift. I wonder if it was intentional.
If it wasn’t, it sure is ironic!
Oh, and then the mom said he could have three. :-)
They work when you are dead as well. I didn’t have to try on purpose to see if it worked. Just my usual game play, my usual not paying attention, my usual trying to jump to a place and my usual death every 15 minutes.
Did the kite even slow you down? LOL
Big thank you Anet. I have built many kites irl my largest being 27 ft wide. The kite in the game just flat out made my day.
Wow! Do you have any pics? I’d love to see that!
IN MY OPINION, It doesn’t matter how legendary they look because I FEEL the only legendary part of a legendary is the legendary amount of time and effort you waste in it. All they are are skins, THOUGH SOME PEOPLE DO ENJOY SKINS MORE THAN OTHER ASPECTS OF THE GAME. Besides, IN MY OPINION, the only cool looking skin is Twilight and even that can’t be used by every profession.
^ Fixed that for you…
Classic!!!! ….and true.
Rule #1 to game forums: Players will always find something to complain about.
Yep. Watching the Decline of Western Civilization continue gets to me sometimes.
Ain’t that the truth!!!!!!!
My brother worked for a company that sent “gifts” to its best customers several times throughout the year…..such as a Christmas ham, and an Easter basket. Ever been to a casino and see how they treat the high-rollers? It’s just a matter of business that the customers who spend the most money, so to speak, do get preferential treatment in some ways. As its been pointed out many, many times on these forums, Anet is in the business to make money.
Not saying its right or wrong, but thats just the way it is….
I have the same problem in most MMOs. Leveling is usually fun for me and end game stuff usually isn’t.
However, I still think my guild has a lot to do with how entertained I am. There’s always someone that needs help in the open world and I go help them and boom, I find something I’ve either never seen before or an event that I’ve not entered from that point in time, or some detail that I either overlooked or perhaps forgot.
I still spend a lot of time in the open world doing events and enjoying them.
I guess the difference is, I really like some of the new stuff that’s come out.
Vayne, I find that I’m liking your post more and more. Wait….OH MY GOD! Am I being assimilated??!! ;-)
Seriously, I don’t always agree with what you might say 100% of the time, but I do believe you always try to be fair and unbiased. Cheers!
Guys, it’s a kite. It does nothing. Settle down.
The kite doesn’t really worry me, it’s the trend that could come out of it. Unannounced bonus items which you can’t anticipate, or even know if they’re going to happen… It smells like a bit of a dodgy practice to me if it does turn into a trend.
Of course, if it doesn’t turn into a trend, then my concerns aren’t much more than hot air. But with two ‘presents’ in such quick succession, I don’t think it’s unreasonable skepticism.
Very true.
A small line somewhere, sometime about this, though, would have let them to squeeze a bit more from people who waiver a little on gem purchases.
I worked way too long in retail…
Why small, if I can ask? I don’t see why not to go big. Make it one of the banners in the gem store; “buy x worth of gems this month, get a free kite”.

Anyone remember vanilla Everquest, where casters had to replenish their mana by staring at their spell book? Sometimes for five minutes at a pop.
The Sanctum Sprint is a competition. A good racer is under no obligation to give up their place to let another player win, even to get their achievement.
That said, it’s a very NICE thing to do, and I think that players who do give up the first place spot to allow other players to get their achievement are shining examples of what makes the GW2 community one of the best of all MMO’s out there. If I was coming first, and someone asked me to stop so they could get the achievement, I’d happily wait at the finish line so they can come first, as long as they weren’t being rude or aggressive about it.
^What Zaxares said…
Anyone have an idea if the Radiant Vambraces will be dyeable?
Have necro marks always had a 3/4 second cast time?
Sweet…..thanks for the info :-)
Vayne, how do you use them to get ascended gear?
I’ll agree that the little permanent boost stats don’t really mean much in the long run.
But what if the main thing you enjoy about MMOs are the skins? What if the stats don’t matter? If you don’t do achievements, you don’t get the nice looking skins. You might say that you’re locked out from getting them. Sure, I don’t NEED the skins, but as Sil said, we don’t NEED to play the game either.
I’ve never understood all the “you don’t NEED it” arguments either. What am I missing?
You dont NEED it… you will not physically kittening die if you don’t get them… they aren’t kittening oxygen they aren’t kittening water or food or shelter… you don’t NEED them… People are just acting like babies about this and its ridiculous.. If you logged on once a week for the entire month for a few hours each time and thats it, if you know what you’re doing then you should have an EASY 500 achievement points from the monthly (which is always easily knocked out in 4-5 days) a few dailies and 2 living story events… they make achievement points so ridiculously easy to get in 4-6 months anyone that plays regularly and has been playing for a while should easily have 10k achievement points… It’s getting ridiculous that they finally introduce something as good as rewarding people for their effort FINALLY and people have to find another reason to complain just because they can’t have something immediately or they weren’t as dedicated as some of the other players who log on ritualistically and grind out each and every new achievement (not me, im not even at 5k points right now)…
TL;DR… basically the game isn’t socialist even though they are GIVING these skins away for nothing (just it may take a couple months to get them all)… not everyone is going to be equal to everyone else especially when some people don’t have the time or necessarily the will to play as much or as hard as other people… stop the kittening because sitting on here complaining isn’t going to get you more achievement points it’s just going to get you further behind.
Once again, please show me where I said I didn’t like the new achievement reward system. I love it! I’m not complaining about anything. Just pointing out how I don’t get the argument that “you don’t need it” in a video game. What you need is totally subjective to each individual player.
Yes, it will take time to get the achievement skins. I’m perfectly fine with that. I’m in no rush to get them. It gives me something to look forward to later down the road. Wow, don’t they teach reading comprehension in school anymore?
Maybe I chose the wrong thread to point out my lack of understanding on the NEED IT subject, because a few folks totally misunderstood what I was saying.
I’ll agree that the little permanent boost stats don’t really mean much in the long run.

that means that you simply don’t need to be the guy that hit 10K achievement points first. These chests are a permanent addition. Even if you only started playing today over time you’ll get all of those achievement reward chests. There will probably be more achievement reward chests by that point, but it’s just a thing to kind of look forward to, because sooner or later you are going to get them
People saying that you NEED to earn achievement points… If you don’t want to do all those jumping puzzles and all those exploration achievements – you don’t NEED to do anything. If you do 1 out of 5 dailies a day you’re still getting an achievement point and you’re still moving forwards.
LOL, please see my post above for clarification.
The issue with your argument is that you are not saying what would you have designed instead.
Complaining that you need achievement points to unlock the Zenith skins is somewhat similar to complaining that you need to do dungeons to get the dungeon skins, or to do all that to get a Legendary.
What would you suggest, instead? Making all skins available to everyone at the beginning of the game? This is not going to happen; since progression in GW2 is not as focused on stats as in other MMOs, the game has a system of progression based on skins which needs some kind of gate before giving skins. Plus, it’s likely that the Transmutation Stones are one of the most sold items in the Gem Store, so I don’t expect them to become useless any time soon.
With that out of the way, all we can do is improve how we get those skins. Using my examples above, I actually don’t like the need to do dungeons to unlock the dungeon skins, or all that grind for a Legendary. I believe we should have more than one way to unlock a skin, AS LONG AS THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE MAKING IT TRADEABLE IN THE TP (many and long reasons for that, which I won’t go in detail here).
Achievement points are perfect for that.
Do you want to just explore the world? You will get a bunch of achievement points. Would you rather just play dungeons? You will get a lot of achievement points for that. Would you rather focus on the personal storyline? Achievement points there, too. Other than relatively few achievement points for sPvP and WvW, achievement points reward near everything in the game.
That’s why I think the argument of “I want skins and I don’t want to get achievement points” is weak. What do you want to do to get those skins? Other than mindless farming gold, everything else will give you achievement points. This system is actually the best way to get skins in the game, considering the freedom it gives players.
Uh…..what??? I never said I thought the achievement point reward system was bad. Quiet the opposite, I really like it, and think its a great system to reward achievements. I was merely pointing out how I think the “you don’t need it” argument didn’t make sense to me. It’s been used on many game issues on these forums. Now like Vayne says, if your saying “you don’t need it right NOW”, then I totally agree.
Reading comprehension 101……it’s your friend.
You don’t need to play GW2 at all. I find this manner of thinking tiresome.
But if you’re already playing Guild Wars 2 you’re not locked out of content by anything being offered.
Who makes more money a guy with a 1% buff that plays a couple of times a week, or a guy who runs dungeons every day? It’s just a non-issue trying to be made into an issue.
There are always some people who feel I must have the best stats possible an if I do not then somehow I can’t play the game.
I’ve played baseball. I was never going to have the best stats. But I still played and enjoyed myself.
It’s just not that big a deal.
I’ll agree that the little permanent boost stats don’t really mean much in the long run.
But what if the main thing you enjoy about MMOs are the skins? What if the stats don’t matter? If you don’t do achievements, you don’t get the nice looking skins. You don’t need it NOW. You’ll eventually get those skins just doing dailies if that’s what you want. It’s all about how FAST you need it, not whether you’ll get it. It’s not that hard to get achievement points for skins. So yes, play the way you want, and don’t let shinies dictate how you play.
Good, we’re on the same page, because I totally agree with your above statement.
I’ll agree that the little permanent boost stats don’t really mean much in the long run.
But what if the main thing you enjoy about MMOs are the skins?
Then you gotta work for them. Like how I can’t have Arah armor for my Necro unless I run Arah explorable a bunch of times.
It might be nice for PvPers to have some way of getting the skins without having to head over to PvE for a while, though.
I agree that you must work for them. I was commenting on the “you don’t need it” argument.
I think alot of people have missed alot of the developing story.
Lets start with Flame and Frost. In it we see the very unlikely dredge and Flame Legion allaince, the Molten Alliance. Their goal does seem conquest oriented but much of their focus was on developing an amalgum of magic and engineering. When attacking their facilities we find they are using slaves to mine a substance called Azurite that seems to have the properties of being able to conduct magical energy and seems to be part of how their technology works.
In the wake of this we find out another fact. It was a third party that arranged the allaince and though we know what the dredge and Flame Legion were after this third group remains out of sight including what it got out of the deal.
Secrets of Southsun was a break in the story used to introduct Keil and Kasmeer.
With the Dragon bash festival we are introduced to said festival. At the height of the festival, an act of sabotage kills one of the leader of LA and introduces a new enemy, the Aetherblades who we all know are sky pirates. Unmasking Mai as the murderer we discover that the Aetherblades saught to secure a place on the Captian’s Council.
Now the interesting part. In attacking their base of operations we discover three facts. One is that the Inquest is supporting them. Second is that the Aetherblades themselves lack the skills to mantain their gear by themselves (Keil states this). Third, we discover Mai, leader of the Aetherblades, has a boss, Scarlet.
Now we have two groups with someone manipulating them from the shadows.
The festival ends with Mai telling us that the Aetherblades arent done yet.
Now we have the Bazaar of the Four Winds. Theres alot to the story and lore of the Zephyrites. Infact the Zephyrites may have something of increadable value.
He has some points wrong but the general gist is there.
So now we have a group working from the shadows. connected to the Inquest, and who have recently formed a force of Sky Pirates, and a sky ship potentially holding artifacts and knowledge of great power…..
And thats ignoring Mr E., Marjory and Kasmeer’s connection to the corruption in the Ministary in DR, the politics of LA and the personal stories of Braham and Roxx.
And people say theres no story in the Living World story…..
I think the issue is more that people are missing the threads of the story for whatever reason.
And another thing…the murdered Charr at the Dragon Bash wasn’t dead. I revived him, using shadow refuge, but he wouldn’t say anything. He just stood there looking stupid so I logged out at 50% meta completion and haven’t logged on since.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!
