Director “I want you to make new cosmetic gear.”

Director “I was actually thinking a Riding Suit would be great”
Employee “A… riding suit, w-well we have no mounts, plus player reque-”
Director “I want a Riding Suit!”
Employee “Uh… well, alright sir.”
Director “Wait, wait… I just had another idea!”
Employee “Sir?”
Director “GANGSTA HOODIES. You make those too. We’ll be rich.”
Employee “What the hell are you smoki… erm I mean, yes sir.”
Very funny, but I swear I think this is true….for many aspects of the game.
Lol why would anyone get banned for that?
If i want i can borrow all my money to my friend and 30 secs later get it back.
Its my money i do what i want with it, why do you guys even consider this?
Do a little research. Its happened and is not that uncommon. Also, as stated above, it’s not ‘your money’. Start shooting some gold around to your friends and soon you’ll understand.
As said in other threads; LOTRO had about the perfect system where you could have a set of clothes for stats and another for image. This system misses the mark for me and my entire gaming clique.
I share the OPs opinion. Bringing modern clothing and affectations into this steampunk style universe does look cheap and is thematically breaking for me.
hehe, MOST, if not ALL, post launch decisions have been head scraching for me.
i wonder who makes the “final calls” at anet.I agree with the OP and I agree with this post. Post launch development has been almost entirely “head scratching”. The strategy for the Gem Store is one of the most befuddling, since it’s mismanagement and lack of content represents millions in lost revenue.
As to the recent offerings, the hoodies look ok, but yeah, do they really belong in the game? IMO, the pants are hideous, the boots aren’t much better and the gloves should probably be free.
I was very glad to see new offerings, the store has maybe 5% as many cosmetic items/skins as I would have expected by now, but I’m far from thrilled with the actual offering.
Arenanet really needs to hire some artist/modelers with an impressive portfolio in the fantasy genre and get them to work on quality gem store gear. Not only on brand new items, but doing the necessary conversions needed to offer more of the currently unavailable NPC skins for players.
I agree with you, and the OP.
Hoodies? Really? What’s next…….Nike and Sketchers shoes? Talk about breaking immersion. It just seems as if Anet is just wildly shooting in the dark with no real direction.
Credit cards help a lot.
For example, right now on my server there is an Eternity, two Twilight and six Sunrise available through the TP. Buy enough gems, convert them to gold, and you can buy several Legendary weapons outright, no grinding required.
The real question is, at this point, why does anyone want to waste their time with these things?
All of the servers use the same trading post. TP is game wide.
Actually I don’t know of a single game that had a lfg system at launch… They mostly add them later.
And there is no need, your blind rage and hatred for the efficient, effective, simple, and convenient lfg tool available doesn’t make it any less of those things.
The automobile windshield wiper was a needed feature on cars. Now it comes standard on all modern cars. I can’t remember the last time I saw an automobile manufacturer say “This new model doesn’t have windshield wipers, but take this rag and hold it out the window and wipe it off when it rains. We’ll design the wipers at some point in the future and install them then”.
If this seems ok to you as a consumer, I’d like to build and sell you your next house.
Because it works. They didn’t even have official forums for ages because it was provided by the community, you don’t need to make redundant things.
This leaves me speechless…..

I finished whole stage 2 with dulfy.ney help in less than an hour today. Do not get OP point at all.
The OP is mentioning that this event isn’t fun or epic.
Honestly I don’t find it very fun either, because of the very odd pacing, and lack of meaningful actions we have in this story.
Without dulfy’s website, I wouldn’t have bothered finding any of the items.
There are refugees fleeing for their lives, and the best we can do is find a drunk dude’s drinking cup, or someone’s belt? Not a very epic story I’m participating in.
I’m not interested in randomly running around a zone in the hopes of finding stuff like that. Thank the Gods for that website.
I would have liked the ability to use our crafting abilities to help the refugees.
Chefs could help feed, Tailors/Leatherworkers could help clothe, Weaponsmiths could help re-arm them, etc. It could have even been tied into our dailies.
Also, the pacing is way too slow.
I think ArenaNet didn’t have the manpower to properly support this event, so they tried to justify this meagerness, by calling these 2 months of stories/events “teasers”.
So not really story… so much as… getting… (let me tell you next month)… our attention.
It doesn’t make for great storytelling. They should have the proper manpower in place to support something, rather than stall by saying they are giving teasers.
To back up my belief, here is ArenaNet’s Angel McCoy mentioning how the story will speed up as they get more manpower:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/living-story-evolution/
“These first couple months of teaser content have allowed us to ramp up to make the long-term Living Story an even fuller and more satisfying experience for you all. As designers have come off other projects and joined us, we’ve increased the amount of content we’ll be delivering, starting at the end of March.”
It feels like Anet is drowning and struggling to just keep their head above water. Kinda like a ‘mom and pop’ store built a Wal-mart and has no idea what to do with it. With all we’ve seen come out of Anet over the past 7 months, I can’t help but think, it must be total chaos there.
Monthly updates serve as the prime value proposition of this ‘free’ game. It’s primarily a marketing device to instill a sense of value for your original $60 and a competitive advantage over other companies with their various monetization models.
I think you can see clearly from the past months exactly how they have and will work. Because they must happen, they compete successfully for developer resources and are a primary obstacle in addressing core game and profession issues. They give us islands with nothing to do on them and roads to walk up and down. It would be far preferable to have a longer development cycle focused on the core game and interesting permanent content (which could be used to expand the story). At least that would be my preference.
Well said Raine!
But on the other hand, don’t forget that we’ll get a new fluffy bunny backpack item each month :-/
Lazy, incompetent, ignorant. 3 words that descripe what I think of ANet whenever a thread like this pops up.
No LFG tool.
No Last online indicator.
More and more grind.
Gated content.Apart from some minor bug fixes and Profession nerfs, the game is in the same state it was at launch. No way has there been 7 months worth of work put into the game since then. A lot of the time I log in, play for a little bit, then quickly start asking myself ’What’s the point?’.
What’s the problem? We have children’s fluffy toy backpacks. I wouldn’t trade those for all the polish and game balance in the world. :-/
There is close to 60k average accounts per server and I think maps are capped at 500 people. Everyone wants to do the events now that the loot is so good. You can:
1) Get there early.
or
2) Seek out the other 20 events that award the upgraded chests.
Just curious….where do you get your figures?
It’s capped because Anet said the servers have to keep track and store every single duration on every mob in every zone. They have to keep track of the damage and duration of all of these.
People already complain about lag now, could you imagine how bad it would be in WvW or dragon events with necros putting 200+ bleed stacks on something.
badly coding your game is not a valid excuse
Who’s to determine the validity of an “excuse”? Just because you don’t like the answer, it’s automatically invalid. They gave their reasons, just deal with it. Besides, it’s always better to balance your character damage on Conditions and Direct damage.
“They gave their reasons, just deal with it.” – what a well thought out suggestion. :-/
Try playing a condition Necro and almost never getting chest with world boss’s because you can’t possibly do enough damage. It really suxs if Necro is your favorite class. Well, guess I’ll “just deal with it” until the next AAA mmo is released….
Sorry I meant this is silly that there are complaints about finding these items when compared to what we used to have to go through in the old MMO’s.
I know. I have the same reaction someone says something is “too much grind” . . . and I giggle behind a hand remembering the “heck levels” phenomenon in EQ.
Oh yea….the old “heck levels” in EQ. Not to mention “de-leveling”. Those were the days!

LMAO, see someone running to the zone line dragging their corpse! The original EQ was an MMO where ‘risk vs reward’ really meant something.

There are plenty of resources on the internet showing possible spawn locations.
Do you not see the problem here?
You are unable to use a search engine? Not my problem.
^ The @net mentality. This game should have been packaged with a browser, since its such a important part of actually playing the game. :-\
This is just another “if you don’t play the same way I do, you’re playing wrong” thread. Not everyone likes or is interested in WvW. Get over it….
I’d be ecstatic if they found an alternative to the condition bleed cap.
I wish Rodgort scepter glowed fire red instead of more a weak sickly pink.
Yep. I’ve often wondered what’s with all of the pink effects in this game.
Honestly, I believe the main focus is the gem store and maximizing gem purchases before the next AAA MMO is released. They are probably expecting a mass exodus if the next AAA MMO gets things even half right upon release. Thus, for now, they’re grabbing all the profit they can.
That’s what I don’t understand. Other MMOs have already figured this out. Why not take those little niceties and implement them from the start. A little polish goes a long way.
let me add my 2 cents in here…
first and foremost, there’s something that all of you have failed to understand. Guild wars 1 was a game, guild wars 2 is NOT a game, it’s not here for your entertainment. Guild wars 2 is a business.. it’s entire design is centered around creating your need to spend real money on it. THAT’s the bottom line… anet, doesn’t give 2 squirts is p*ss about whether or not you like the changes they make. they don’t care a bit about what you feel they should or should not add to the game. they’re sole purpose is to create, in you, a need to spend your money. there are far too many examples of this in game for me to list here, but for those of you who will undoubtedly call bs.. take a look at the history thus far.. anything that deals with the gem store get immediate attention.. everything else, get attention, IF at all, when they feel like getting around to it. how long did it take them to fix the skritt segment of the personal storyline? how long did it take them to fix the cattlepult so ppl could get the vista? during this time, how many new items did they add to the gem store for you to spend money on? how many new bugs did they introduce, rather than fixing any of the existing bugs? I loved gw1.. but anet has lost their sense of gaming when they discovered what kind of money they could make from all the suckers that don’t see the big picture.
vv que trolls vv
Proof? Because I don’t spend money on the game and play it just fine. This kind of conspiracy theory is the worst kind of conspiracy theory. One that appeals to fear in people without having a shred of evidence to back it up.
There are so many greed F2P games out there and P2W games out there. This isn’t one of them.
If Anet was really after cash sales from the shop, they’d introduce pay to win options like many other games.
You don’t buy gems, but an awful lot of people do. I have one friend that has spent over $3000 in the gem store. I’m not going to say how much I’ve spent, buts lets just say I’ve spent well over the yearly subscription business model. I was in Best Buy the other day, and one guy had $300 worth of gem cards he was buying. He wouldn’t tell me how much he’s spent in the past on them. That’s 3 people I know. How many of the thousands upon thousands of players buy gems? I’m sure they make an awful lot more by the gem store than if they had a subscription.
Conspiracy theory? Nope. I’d say very shrewd business practices on Anets part. Even a blind man can see where the focus lays if he chooses to… Don’t be naive.
Critickitten: You mention in your first paragraph that this is your opinion. I changed the thread title to reflect that (which you could have done in the first place yourself). The original thread title was sensationalist and broad to attract more views. I will change the title back to reflect that it is a personal opinion. If you change it once again, this thread will be locked and trashed.
I know I’m not the first to notice your casual moderation in favor.
EVERYTHING on these forums is “in our opinion” but you protect yourself by taking the edge off of the genuine problems.
I’ve never seen behavior like this before.
Not cool.
Honestly what happened to the old Anet from Gw1?
NCsoft happened…..among other things.
All I know is that several times on these forums there have been several “is there an official pve server” threads and every time people have said go to TC.
And I’m sure that those few people definitely speak for our entire server.
I figure they speak for your entire server about as much as you do. And I never said they did, only that that might be the cause for your problems.
“Another thread about this? TC advertised themselves as the pve party server when guesting first came out. What exactly did you expect to happen?”
Actually, that’s exactly what you said….
I think a lot of what you are experiencing comes from dealing with a company which lacks experience.
This is ArenaNet’s first MMO, and their lack of experience in running one shows.
Warcraft had similar problems as they grew their MMO and learned some lessons the hard way.
Unfortunately, ArenaNet doesn’t seem to have a deep grasp of MMO history and is recreating classic mistakes.
I think they can recover from them, but it will be bumpy ride for us as they figure things out.
Here is a video back from 2007 where Warcraft’s founder talks about their mistakes and lessons learned:

- 17:25 – Dangers of Releasing a Game too early
- 39:40 – Process to Communicate with Players about Problems
- 43:50 – Importance of Testing
- 44:45 – Importance of Public Test Realm
I think your post makes the most sense I’ve read on this forum to date! To me, this sums up all the issues with this game.
“Learn from history or you’re doomed to repeat it.”

OP……I think your clock is broken. Screaming Cantaloupe is correct.
Removing condition damage is not a solution it is THE solution. You just haven’t figured out any creative way to do it yet.
If any Conditon Damage exists on gear, you can replace it with Power. If Power already exists you replace it with Precision.
Traits that have anything to do with Condition Damage will have to be redesigned. Arenanet created a ton of traits in GW1. I’m sure they’re smart enough to think of some.
Weapon skills that have Bleed, Burning, Confusion and Poison can be redesigned to inflict more direct damage and ANY of the following; Vulnerability, Weakness, Chilled, Immobilize, Cripple, Fear and Blind.
If arenanet leaves conditions in this broken state; we as the community should not tolerate it. Developers should not expect thier players to continue playing a broken game.
Thats about the most kitten idea ever. It isn’t working right now, so just remove it…. They replaced magic dmg(common mmo element) and replaced it with cond dmg and I like it a lot more. No longer have to worry about hp, mag def, phy def, elemental resistance, etc. It is much easier to handle. Not to mention, this cond issue isn’t game breaking. If you need a moment to clear your eyes maybe this game isn’t for you. Cond dmg isn’t great, but its not broken.
Play a Necro to 80, do WvW and dungeons, then come back and give an opinion….
If I want to range with my Necro, condition is what I have. Sounds like you don’t care about the issue, so therefore it’s not important.
I must say the more i read these Dev responses to serious questions that need fixing, the less faith i have in Guildwars 2 future.
But i guess it makes sense now why after 6 months Rangers and Engineers etc are still terrible classes..
Amen! I play a condition necro. Tonight I was in on killing the swamp behemoth , and rolled conditions on him over and over throughout the entire fight. At the end of the fight, I didn’t even get the chest. I got nothing.
I had such high hopes for this game, but its become just another placeholder until something better comes along. I still feel like the game is in beta, and Anet is Dr Frankenstein chasing the monster around the countryside in the dark, unable to catch it. They created something they have no idea how to control and are flying by the seat of their pants just trying to keep their heads above water.
Perhaps people need to get that World of WarCraft mentality out of their heads. Movement speed is fine.
Perhaps your opinion isn’t the only one that matters.
Each class having a moment buff is not game breaking. It’s a nice thing to have and aids in traveling. Many more MMO’s than WoW incorporate it….all the way back to the original Everquest.
do cursed shores events and salvage everything!
Danz, how do you break down your salvages with which kits? Mystic kit for rare and above? Which kits for lesser grade?
I don’t think buying gems to gold really gives anyone a huge advantage; it just makes things a bit easier a bit faster. For some people money = time, and buying gems is a way to ease the leveling process if you don’t have much time each week to play. But I do not believe gems to gold gives a measurable advantage. But that’s just me.
You must use the most overpowered spell in the game. Its called……Pull out your wallet…..
I’m a bit confused, when did I pull out my wallet? If your gonna just hate the game, then go do that, make you own thread.
at Salacious, if you want fast track your gold, the system is there you. I you want to play a game, you can do that too. I don’t buy my gold, I make it.
I didn’t say I hated the game, I’m having a blast. You want gold? Your wallet is a way to get it. Salacious agrees. This game is not designed to get “nice amounts of cash” easily. Any MMO that has a store is going to be that way. Gold in this game equals time and farming, or playing the TP. They want you to buy gems, hence gold is always going to be hard to make and hard to keep. That’s by design.
And yes AesirValkyr, you are more than “a bit” confused, I was addressing the OP. Get defensive much?
(edited by Villious.8530)
Your wallet……the great equalizer.
Ya know what fix I want…
Just put all loot in my bags when the mob dies. I’m going to pick it all up anyway. This would make WvW much better as it can be extremely tricky to grab the bags when scrambling for your life. In PvE, it becomes a matter of noticing that you have loot to pick up or not.
I agree with your WvW comment. That would be very nice.
You must use the most overpowered spell in the game. Its called……Pull out your wallet…..
final rest is useless for necro. the scythe effect is already built-in to the profession.
I disagree….the scythe effect is only visible while casting. It would make a great necro weapon.
I’m elated this feature is finally getting implemented. But to be honest, I can’t begin to fathom why this wasn’t live during beta. Actually, I can….the game is really getting close to where the it should have been released in the first place. Not a rant, I just think they rushed release to beat MOP, Rift xpac and Christmas. Again, I’m so glad they got the TP preview figured out.
I do my daily dodge in a low level zone. Takes about 3 minutes. The only thing I have to wait for is enough juice to complete it. Pretty quick.
My conspiracy theory? A lot has happened in the past few years of the games development. They were well into the game design, then had to change engines. They rushed release to beat MOP, Rift xpac and Christmas. The original devs no longer work GW2 now. NCSoft is pushing the agenda now.
Loot drops/DR, things such as the change in account bound dye is in place on purpose to push us to the TP/Gem Store. Anet is getting all they can out of Gem Store purchases before the next two big AAA MMO’s are released. GW2 has made some monumental evolutions with the MMO game, but if the upcoming two new AAA MMOs can take those points and incorporate them without all of the negative aspects and greed…..well, I think you really will see a mass exodus of Tyria.
Yesterday I killed 6 vets and a champion and didn’t get a single drop, while doing considerable damage on the champ and all the damage on the vets. I looted one dropped wooden chest that only had a couple of whites. Why is RNG so out of whack? Why are Vets and Champs still not dropping loot even after they were patched to do so? The monster has gotten away from Dr Frankenstein and now he’s chasing it around the countryside in the dark trying to catch it.
(edited by Villious.8530)
I would be happy if i could just put the weapon skills where i wanted them…
I second this!!!!! Customization is a good thing.
Last week, I purchased a new router and the front panel LEDs did not work. I called tech support, in India, and the tech told me to “taker the power cord and plug/unplug it as fast as you can for as many times as you can for 20 seconds”. I thought that’s was nuts. After I finished, the panel LEDs still didn’t work. The tech then told me “since the router works ok, you don’t really need the front panel LEDs anyway”. Really? I couldn’t believe he told me that.
My point being…..sounds like a bs answer to a problem they have no clue about.
Oh, and I returned the router to the store.
In most MMO’s risk = reward. Here, risk > reward…….a lot > reward. I was grinding in Queensdale today on my level 80 doing my daily, and I had 2 rares drop from trash mobs within 20 mins. What’s the incentive to blow consumables and repair money when I get better loot killing level 5 mobs? Something is WAY off balance.
i agree most loot is crap in the same time you kill the champ. you can kill a lot mobs and get more and better loot.
This is the truth of it. There’s no reason to kill a champ mob, ever. The only reason kill a vet is if it is in your way (or if it’s for a skill point). Neither has any better loot than a random mob.
I see alot of people agree and it’s just not me. I wonder when anet will do something about this.
I would like to ask Colin; Why do you think killing trash mobs is more important than killing veterans or champions?
If you don’t? Why is it the case?
The thing is if they give you a good drop rate the value of the Gem Store goes down because there will be less people “short-cutting” to get better gear. Why do you think the legendaries are so ridiculously hard to get? To make a more even progression? Kitten no, they’re that way make NCSoft more money.
I like this game, but sadly, I believe you hit the nail on the head.
I have no problems paying for a sub…..but…I wouldn’t do it for this game in its current state. Horrible RNG, DR, bad drop rates and many bugs that have been around since beta. Low level mobs dropping better stuff than high level mobs. If TESO gets even half of the above right, it has a wonderful opportunity if its the next triple A fantasy MMO.
It’s a shame that there’s no reason to fight your way to and slay that Veteran Wolf chilling in that out-of-the-way den with the rest of his pack.
You know there is a chest behind the tree in one of the wolf dens in Queensdale.
Not anymore…..
Oh really?
I’ve looked every day for the past week and it has not been there. Once it’s looted, does it disappear to everyone for a time?
Edit: I just went and looked; sure enough, it’s there. Go figure :-/
given how effective anet has been in the campaign against RMT, perhaps it’s time to ease up or even remove dr?
Pandora’s box has been opened…..
It’s a shame that there’s no reason to fight your way to and slay that Veteran Wolf chilling in that out-of-the-way den with the rest of his pack.

Great dialog and feedback. Thank you!!!!!
I think the daileys are easier now. Go find a lvl 1 plains worm, aggro it, and just sit there and dodge while it attacks you. Very easy. If you are already gathering as you go, you have plenty of stuff to do the crafting daily as stated above.
That’s just 1/5 of what you need to do.
LOL, I know that. I’ve accomplished my daily every day. I just like the new layout and I finish it more quickly than the old daily system. But that’s just me.
How is that possible when most of the time you get pretty much what you got with old daily system + extra stuff?
Events are still the hardest to do unless you hit some specific area with frequently spawning events or run the right dungeons (not Sorrow’s Embrace, that’s for sure). I tried to complete my events by exploring today and spent an hour before I finally ran into my first (group) event.
Do a search on these forums for “Daily Guide”. You’re making it harder than it is. Yesterday, it took me longer to get to each daily location than it did to do them.
Examples:
Crafting – 30 seconds
Veteran kills – 5 minutes
Underwater kills – 5 minutes
Dodging – 3 minutes
Healer – 7 minutes
Kill Variety – Completed running to each daily grind area.
Gathering – Completed that running to each daily grind area.

i would like an official comment on this because if we are going to be banned for using “naughty words” when there’s an option to have a swear filter on for carebears then why bother having a toggle on the filter at all?
i don’t see why i should be punished because others are offended. that’s something they’ll have to deal with, not me. they can have their swear filter and as long as i don’t avoid the filter i can’t see how any rational person could argue that using “naughty words” is ban worthy.
I can’t see how any rational person could argue that “naughty words” should have a place in common, public speech. They are in no way necessary or productive. It doesn’t make you sound grown up, cool, or anything like that. Now I’m not saying everyone should be silent unless something is productive and necessary to say. I love a good comedian, good stories, small talk with people about their day, etc. But offensive language doesn’t have a place in any of those situations.
When I here people swearing in public, I feel embarrassed for them because of how unaware of themselves they are. The thing is, it happens so rarely when around real people. Most are sensible enough to do it quietly, or in a more private setting so not everyone hears them. People will do the most ridiculous things from behind a keyboard, and it really just shows everyone how immature they really are.
i’m not here to debate with you and i frankly don’t care about your opinion. i just want an official response on whether or not i will be banned for saying “kitten” when i fall off a cliff due to a glitch and die.
(can i be banned for saying kitten? the swear filter caught it and i didn’t avoid the filter, but maybe some people will be offended anyway?)
Here you go. An official statement made today for the OP in the Accounts forum.

Here’s your official answer. How much more simple can it be. Just don’t curse and you have nothing to worry about. Maybe you should stick to single player games until you grow up a bit. Wow!
Gaile Gray.6028:
The Name and Word Filter is not a “license to swear” or “permission to offend.” Saying “Just turn on your filter” isn’t that answer, any more than telling parents “Just cover your children’s ears” give you the excuse to swear up a storm in a restaurant. With any private service — restaurant, movie theatre, game server — the owners reserve the right to expect a certain level of behavior. The filter is offered as a means to try to limit offenses, but not as a feature that then presents others with the opportunity for “no holds barred” in the use offensive language.
