Let me set this straight, once again. My point is, it’s fine to make constructive feedback about things your not happy with, but to make whiny posts about how the game as a whole is failing or going downhill is just complete rubbish and that’s what brings the negatively. ANet appreciate feedback, they don’t appreciate people telling them the game they have worked so hard with and continue to do so is failing, when it isn’t.

Anet doesn’t need you to join their ranks of forum police. They do well enough at that on their own.

If I love GW2, why so bored when I play?

Villious.8530

GW2 is like a console game. its appealing for short term enjoyment. It wasnt even designed with MMO gamers in mind first. It was designed to appeal to Console and non MMO gamers to pull those players into the product. Anet admitted to this for a while now back before the game release. Downed concept for example was looked to be compared to FPS which are popular gaming genre for non MMO games.

Maybe this is why the game seems so shallow to me. It has a lot of wonderful concepts, such as instanced nodes and stuff, but just pushing 1-5 and dodging is so boring to me. Playing SWTOR now, and it’s a breath of fresh air. Can’t seem to find the incentive to login to GW2 anymore. It just feels so constrictive.

And yes, for me, GW2 is the most beautiful MMO I’ve played in 20 years. To bad the majority of your view is the dirt around you.

Upper Half of UI should be scalable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Villious.8530

Villious.8530

The entire UI should be more customizable. My buddies and I started playing SWTOR, and the UI is fantastic….and it was released that way. Also, they don’t allow mods either. I can move/resize my windows, customize my hotbar(s), and hide UI elements that I don’t want to see. Not to mention the camera and FOV is light years better.

QoL means a lot. I think GW2 is the first MMO that I’ve played that had such harsh UI restrictions and horrible camera/FOV, and I began playing MMOs when the origional Everquest was released.

I'm getting so tired of this...

I agree 100% with the OP. My buddies and I stopped playing several days ago. Logging in started feeling like a chore. We went to SWTOR, and the game polish, QoL is amazing. So much so, that i subscribed. I’m very much looking forward to the day when GW2 has some new competition. It will be interesting to see how things go then.

PVE - Sheild vs Focus

in Guardian

Posted by: Villious.8530

Villious.8530

Focus is more useful for dungeons overall. Skill 5 helps you block damage against bosses, especially since most attack slow. On top of that, it works as a blast finisher, which can be used fo AoE heals (water field), might stacking (fire field), etc. Skill 4 gets pretty valuable as a way to stack vuln if traited.

I only use the shield for a rare situation where I need to push isolated mobs into a ball (i.e. a far cat golem at the end of uncategorized fractal; ball all 4 for AoE kill). I barely need the heal it provides, and skill 4 is pretty meh.

Thank you for the replies! What is the trait that effects focus skill 4 that you mentioned?

But I’m saying that for the dev, it wasn’t the focus. They might not even realize how strong that was, or how important it was to the game design from the perspective of players. Again, when you take the game as a whole, there’s a lot going on. What are the odds your priorities and the devs are identical?

There’s been a huge amount of uproar and “discussion” centered around gear. It started with the, “Nothing to work for, no endgame, no progression” posts last fall, went through a huge outcry about Ascended that prompted an AMA to respond, and has been an ongoing issue since. There were many threads about dailies — which would not have been an issue except for laurels. There was a recent consolidation of threads about Ascended into a 20 page thread that I can no longer find. Since the Ascended weapon pre-patch blog, there have been a lot of pro and con threads/posts.

Statements about the role of gear, exotics being top tier, max stat gear being easy to get and horizontal/cosmetic progression being the motivation to continue playing were important enough to be seen as selling points pre-launch.

If Colin is unaware or only peripherally aware of how important this subject is, then he’s not doing his job as Game Director. Suggesting that the Game Director is not aware of the details surrounding a controversial issue that is dividing community opinion is either disingenuous or insulting to his professionalism.

Anet lacks focus and they’re terribad at communication…

Actually, I think this is the core issue in a nutshell.

How can u be against silly names, when the legendary short bow shoots my little ponies. The legendary mace is a disco ball. Fuzzy animal backpacks. The game has “silly” built in.

You’d be surprised. I think.. A couple of weeks after release, I was in Fireheart Rise and I was having trouble with an SP. I asked in map chat if someone could help me, and somone literally told me because I didn’t have an RP Orientated name, they were unwanting to even help me, and they actually mocked me about it.

Of course, someone else basically told him to eff off for that, and he started saying, “Lol you’re kitten because I’m not going to help you so you called your friends” and yeah.. It was pretty.. I wouldn’t call it anything like traumatising, but it was just pathetic behaviour.

I know. I hate running into people like that. Funny thing is, I pity them, and wonder what made them like that. Though I think most of it is just “Internet anonymity”. If they acted that way in public, theres a good chance they’d get their kitten’s whipped.

Basically he says ascended is the last tier of gear your gonna see, not counting legendary’s.

Basically he is saying NOTHING like that.

Basically he is pretty much not saying anything about it. “i hope there no new tier” rofl

Oh and look, one more of these misleading threads.

You need to read his whole answer not just what you want to hear.

“The tiers that we have are what we like. We’re really happy with them, with the time it takes to get them and I don’t see any need, any time in the near future for us to even consider adding another tier of gear.”

You should take your own advice. Define “near future”. Do you really think that, in the long run, they are going to stop at ascended? Not sure how you get “ascended is the last tier of gear you’re gonna see” out of that. There is a HUGE gap in that quote…..“near future”.

With the argument going on in this thread, if you go to a restaurant and notice a loogie sitting on your steak, you should just happily eat it because it’s not actually harmful to you anyway. Besides, the amount of effort and time the chef would have to put into making you a new steak would just be too big of a deal and bothersome. It also appears that if the customer does complain and returns the steak, it’s perfectly okay to say you’ll do something about it and then come back some hours later, shrug and say nothing can be done about it.

Honestly, when did complaining about issues and bad service concerning a product you paid for become a taboo?

I’d also like to throw in the idea that if you look at the amount of time people put into completing the monthly achievement… two days. That’s how many hours? Maybe eight? Minimum wage is around 6€/h, I suppose. 8*6 = 48 euros. Now, multiply that by the amount of people having the issue and you’ll end up with a rough image of the cost of wasted time. Not to say that all the people would have been working instead, but you get the picture, yeah?

Of course, the more you work, the more precious your time off becomes. No one wants to waste it.

Now you’re being logical Nana. Logic has no place here. ;-)

Did AN promised to never add new gear tiers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Villious.8530

They promised no gear treadmill and no grind and that the progression would be cosmetic.

Where?! When?! You seem to be pretty sure about that so just PLEASE give me a quote that says exactly that!

You’ve already got it in your OP:

“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

Everyone knows what he was referring to, it was the conventional WoW-gear grind (and clones and predecessors) that we all know and hate. You just need to accept the English and deal with it. Anet promised a new kind of MMO, got spooked, and reversed themselves. Don’t really know why, but it is as simple as that.

This……in a nutshell.

It is indeed amazing… even I have had doubts. Hopefully NCSOFT will figure out that their current MMORPG “Investment” Wildstar is a Failed Project and thus once again restore full funding levels to advance GW2 at a fast rate of speed and with the epic scale of content only matched by WoW. NCSOFT simply has too many MMORPG’s out there to mangage anyone of them to a scale that is Warcraft.

No matter: I look forward to spending some “quality time” with the ArenaNet staff in the Seattle event this weekend…

Indeed it is so…

How is Wildstar a failed project since it hasn’t been released? Just curious.

The things in the gem shop aren’t in any way required items… mostly just skins… and you can buy the majority of them for gold off of the TP now and not have to mess with the BLKeys. It’s totally your choice as far as which way you want to obtain them. I don’t see how that can be considered exploitative…

Why do people keep saying certain content is not “required”?

Villious.8530

It’s all subjective. You’re seeing exploitative monetization schemes and altered design where they may or may not actually exist.

Black Lion Chests + Keys isn’t a difficult example to break down into how it is exploitative.

I’ve personally never seen a more reasonable, less invasive cash shop. And I’m satisfied with just knowing that 1) I can earn everything in it by trading gold for gems (and at a rate I consider reasonable) and 2) That nothing in said gem shop is required for me to play or enjoy the game.

There will always be players in a free-to-play game who achieve everything they want to without the cash shop despite their design being both exploitative and in opposition to the best interests of gameplay as a whole.

At the end of the day, content isn’t being designed to be dysfunctional without the cash shop. Even election participation was easily done without any use of the cash shop. As for RNG – who cares? It’s skins. It’s always been skins – and skins that you can buy from other players via the tp at that. Skins are irrelevant towards actual game design even in a horizontal progression game. Why? Because tastes are subjective and there are a multitude of skins that appeal to various tastes available through pretty much every method of play.

If a game were not free-to-play microtransaction based as this one is, and those new skins you don’t care about were placed on a raid boss or difficult to kill world boss, it would not change anything about the game for you. If they were placed on an actual slot machine, where three cherries in a row won you the item skin, that would also not change the game for you. How you play and enjoy the game as an individual player does not define whether or not they’re using exploitative practices, nor does it answer the question of whether or not they’re negatively impacting gameplay design to feed the cash gem shop.

Ask yourself how different this event series would be without the gem shop? What would it look like if gems were not involved? That’s the root of the issue. It’s a game built around monetization. It’s a different product. A different relationship between us and the developer.

The exchange used to be “I’m going to make something as fun as I possibly can and ask you to pay for it”. Now it’s much more opaque and indirect. It has as much in common with a carnival game or gambling as pre-free-to-play gaming.

Could you make the words “for you” flash, rotate, spin and glow in the dark? Duke’s post subjective opinion. Nothing more.

Villious.8530

The focus on the Gem Store won’t let up until some real competition is released. Then I bet you’ll see some relief in trying to keep players. shrug

And if every game from this time on is focused on the gem store? Do you really think time is going to go backwards? Games are increasingly focused on the gem store, because that’s how they fund development. It’s so competitive that in today’s market, if they want to make more content, which does keep people in game, they need income. One boxed sale price won’t do it.

So what do you do? Have a game with less content like TSW which most people don’t play? Is that the solution? And they do focus on their cash shop.

Most $60 games give you 20 hours of play. An exception game like Skyrim might give you more…but if you want 500 or more hours of play, you can’t just charge $60. Anet said from the beginning their cash shop is a significant part of their business plan.

I’m not sure why that makes them greedy.

I never said that Anet is being “greedy”, as its the very goal of a business to make as much money as they can. I agree that for $60, you get a LOT of bang for your buck here.

For me, how much is too much before cash shop/gambling focus is considered fleecing? If the gem store had true “micro transactions”, that would be awesome, but everything is $5 – $10. If the mining pick were $3, it would be much more feasible to buy a set of tools for each character, but as it sits, it would cost you $30 PER character.

For the amount of money I’ve spent in this game (quiet a bit), I’d personally rather just have a sub, but that me, and I know the sub model is becoming antiquated. I don’t have a problem with the gem store and Anet needing to make money. But at what point does “fair value” start moving into the “taking advantage of its consumers” territory? I personally hate the feeling of being led by the nose to the gem store, instead of making me want to go to the gem store. And yes, I know I don’t have to. If all future MMO’s are going to do this nickle and diming to death on its customers, well, it’s depressing. But, I’d rather have nickle and diming as opposed to five and ten dollaring.

I’ll happily spend money in the gem store. Just make it a reasonable price, and put things in that we want to buy. Many people cant afford $30 for the tool set, but maybe if it were $9, they’d sell more of them, and the player wouldn’t feel that they were trying to be taken advantage of. Just my .02.

Over the past few weeks I’ve seen multiple topics regarding farming taking too long, or gem prices being too high, or that Anet is ignoring it’s “loyal” playerbase.

“Our” (" because I hate speaking in general terms) definition of loyalty is a player that sticks with the game, despite it’s flaws. This person might be spending hours and hours again, everyday, playing the game – just to get enough materials to make a Legendary, or just because the person finds the game a worthy investment of time.

Truth is though, in Anet’s eyes, this isn’t a loyal customer. They need money, and of course that is their main focus so stop complaining about it already! It’s a company. People work there. People who need money. If you consider yourself a loyal customer, do you EVER spend gems in the gemshop? Or are you constantly complaining about the prices? A loyal player wouldn’t farm gold to get gems, but rather pull out the good old credit card and push some cash into the game. Think about it.

Here is what we all MUST make a stand on:
1 Gemstore
2 Subscription

You can’t have neither. Money must go to the bank. I would rather have prices in the shop dropped significantly in exchange for a monthly subscription. Either way, I would love to pay a monthly subscription to know that I am, in some manner, contributing to Guild Wars 2’s continued existance.

I agree with you on some points, but how much is too much before its considered fleecing? If the gem store had true “micro transactions”, that would be awesome, but everything is $5 – $10. What good is that if someone has no desire to level another character?

Except if you have no desire ever to create a new character then that won’t entice you at all.

LOL, that’s exactly the purpose. To get you to do it where you otherwise might not.

Let’s say your friend wants to go to the movies and you don’t want to. Your friend might try to entice you by offering to buy you popcorn and a soda. Entice means to persuade with promises of something.

Here again, I thought the definition of “fun” is different from one person to another.

I find it fun/enjoyable to farm with tons of people.
Unfortunately, my definition of “fun” is wrong based on OP’s definition of fun. kitten .

I agree. It’s amazing how selfish and self centered people can be with the attitudes of ’you’re not playing the way I want you to play’, or ‘I don’t find this fun so you shouldn’t either’. I’ve heard many people say they are having fun zerging and running with all the people, just as I am. We’re not trying to dictate how you play, so try and show a bit of consideration. If someone feels that they HAVE to zerg farm, well, that’s their hang up.
