What the hell are you talking about?

actual viable swiftness that does not force you to stand still or uses up a utility slot for 50% uptime.

Staff gives +20% boon duration if traited; Shouts have 20% CDR if traited; Sigil of Speed grants 20 seconds of swiftness on killing a foe without any ICD.

Open world, out-of-combat exploration does not require optimal DPS gear and traits to do anything. If you want unlimited swiftness you can get it. A Warrior must take a Warhorn; a Necro must take a Warhorn and the utility; a Mesmer must take boon duration, a focus, and Signet of Inspiration; an engineer must constantly equip kits (most optimal is Toolkit which is pretty weak in PvE); Guardian must take staff and shouts.

This isn’t anything new. No class gets +33% movement speed for nothing. Guardians are not lacking in this regard. The thread is still about open-world running about. Combat mobility is an entirely different topic and is not in question in this thread.

There we have it Sigil of speed, Traveler/speed/centaur runes, and superspeed+lightning blasting should be enough for revenants to explore the world and JPs.

That’s why you can’t have a dev for 2,3 classes, one will stand out and other 2 will suffer.

I’m pretty certain that no dev is left to his own devices for the profs they work on. Usually these things are team based or at least peer reviewed and approved by management.

That’s how it should work ideally but with the state some of the balance patches are released the assumption is questionable at best.

The sword cleaves like crazy. 3 targets on AA 1 and 2, and 3rd fires 3 projectiles (which count as 3 attacks for Justice and other effects), which pierce up to 3 hits each. If thats not cleaving, I don’t know what is. "Cleave"is NOT a problem for the sword.

In order to bring the sword’s power back up, it NEEDS trait synergy again. The weakness of the Crit chance modifiers in traits is the binary nature of crits itself.

Long term DPS it makes a difference, but in short term (which is how most of our fights tend to be balanced), its either not significant enough to matter (low crit), used only for prots (which 40% is more then enough with most cool downs), or high enough that crits almost all the time (60% or higher). +10% on its own is meaningless, as Sword Wave’s number of attacks pretty much ensures a crit proc… but we only have 2 Traits that rely on Procs; One is Glacial heart (which excludes the sword), and the other “Radiant fire” syngerzies and easily procs off of Torch.

What 1-handed strength needs is a conditional buff like Bulwark or Fencer’s Finesse. The Proc effect could be bound to blind application for stack effects, or a bigger effect if blinds you apply cause an enemy to miss. I can see Ferocity, Condi damage, or procing a burn effect given its assignment to Radiance. (If you wanted to get really creative, it could proc confusion).

Cone is so narrow on AA#3 that it rarely hits more than 1 target unless they are standing on top of each other IF it’s not obstructed (which real cleaves never are)

How does dps go down with more targets? Id understand if it was not increased as much as other cleaving weapons but to say it goes down sounds dishonest. Also the coefficients havent been calculated properly so the margin of error on the max theoretical dps could be larger than 1k.

    Sword Wave (3rd chain aa):
    Each sword becomes an overlapping wave attack instead of a projectile.
  • Wishlist
    Zealot’s Defense (Sword 3):
    Becomes Symbol of Defense. Lasts 2 seconds, destroys all projectiles crossing it’s location.

Mace

  • QoL
    Faithful Strike (3rd chain aa):
    Hits 3 enemies, but only the one healing effect (as seen on Thief and Necro Dagger).
    Protector’s Strike:
    Continues blocking non-melee attacks
    Toggle skill to get the Protection early

Scepter

  • QoL
    Chains of Light:
    1200 Range
  • Wishlist
    Orb of Wrath:
    Maybe a smidgen faster, or a few degrees of target tracking
    Smite:

You havent answered anything you want to be rewarded for not playing yor class right. Its like you are playing a mace shield signet guardian complaining that you are too slow. The solutions are right in front of you but you are too stubborn to accept them. ( superspeed is not good enough, blasting lightning is too hard, runes are too expensive etc)

I can get an exploration setup on Guardian equipping a staff and swapping 2 utility skills. I’m not planning to have 100% swiftness uptime in battle dude, it’s meant for exploration, OoC.
Mesmers have to give up nothing. Focus is arguably the best off hand weapon, and equipping 1 (pretty decent) sigil is not “a lot”. You get 98% swiftness uptime from only those 2 things.
Also with Revenant I’d kill to be able to give up something to get a smooth map exploration.

Traveler runes, lol. You would have to swap an entire armor set for that.

With Revenant the only direct way to get speed is maybe (waiting confirmation) Impossible Odds, and only 90%.

Please read the thread however. I’ve already replied to comments like this.

you can get hammer mace on a revenant and blast your lightning field 2-3 times every 8-15 secs for 20-30 secs of swiftness then.
Mesmer focus 4 does not stack with any other source of swiftness already active so you have a 5 second window to get that swiftness if you are running the signet. and by a lot I meant that they have to use 2 or more skill slots to achieve something that other classes get with 1 trait or skill (25% signets, traits, etc)

needs to become unblockable or be changed into a 3 hit melee slash like warrior axe AA 3. Projectiles are detrimental instead of useful because they get reflected or become obstructed.

Revenant- The Anti Guard

If revenants play zerk they are toast against the medi guard. There’s a reason why they call it the anti-zerk. If they can ignore block we still have blind&invuln. Staff may not end up a useless stick like on beta but ventari needs to be remade to not suck because the tablet is a hindrance in fast paced pvp.

They just haven’t explained what kind of challenging content we’re getting. So its kind of an empty statement. We haven’t heard them say “dungeons” or “raids”.

Open world bosses with a trilion hit points than can 1-shot everyone no matter their gear/build, with their main attack which they do once every 20 seconds that has a huge tell only if you are half alseep you can miss.

Judging by experience (fractals/sw/teq/tt) “challenging group content” means “triple hit points than normal content”. Of course I can be wrong, at least I hope I am.

the thing is thet if challenging mobs dont have enough health zerkers can overcome the mechanic by killing them before it becomes challenging

How about us Tankers and Healers? :(

One thing a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that the zerker meta wont hold up in the challenging content in Heart of Thorns, colin brohanson has even said that you’ll need a variety of roles and gear sets in order to complete it, which would mean OPs want is probably going to be quite doable.

If you want to be tanky with heals i’d suggest you go with Clerics (I’ve been told Magi’s is good for guardian with a certain trait), however make sure you don’t go pure heals, that’ll never happen. Your healing will help out your team a little bit, but you should absolutely be using boons and that more.

Also, if you’re trying to tank in PvE you need to bring a good amount of CC. CC will both kitten off the mob to make it focus you (especially if you’re in melee of said mob), and it’ll inhibit it from getting to your team, and hurting you.

Also keep in mind that you may want to run the current PvE content with friends or guildies and stay away from pugs, otherwise they’ll just kitten and moan about you not stacking or doing enough damage. What i’ll normally do is make a group with 2 other friends and just say in the LFG notification that we’re not zerker and aren’t going to play like a normal zerker group so don’t expect it.

My zerker ranger has completed every PvE content currently available with little difficulty. No matter what Anet has in store, zerkers will find a way to cheese it.

You do realize the fact you’ve completed every CURRENT PvE content in zerker means absolutely nothing right? This content isn’t going to be on the same level as the challenging content from the sounds of it. This current content seems like it was a disastrous failure from how the devs talk about it compared to heart of thorns, so i wouldn’t say you’ll be cheesing your way through it until the next content comes out.

We are already cheesing SW with the exception of copper that needs condi.

Players I run into:
1. High deeps players who don’t die and could solo the dungeon.
2. High deeps players who don’t die but can’t solo the dungeon.
3. High deeps players who die all the time unless everyone is playing max deeps.
4. Mid deeps players who don’t die and could solo the dungeon.
5. Mid deeps players who don’t die but can’t solo dungeon.
6. Mid deeps players who die all the time unless the boss dies fast.
7. Low deeps players who don’t die and could solo the dungeon.
8. Low deeps players who don’t die and couldn’t solo the dungeon.
9. Low deeps player who die all the time and are basically a drain to the party.

Meta bullies are almost exclusively #3. They are noobs, but pretend they aren’t cause they have zerker gear. 1s and 2s are the kind of people willing to carry 6s, 8s, and 9s. I met someone who normally solos arah but was puging because that is more of a challenge. He was a bit elitist and meta, but he was still fun to play with because he wasn’t shouting at people.

More and more people are falling into the #1 category which makes puging very pleasant.

My war is full Zoja’s, but I don’t like the zerker meta, so I use her to climb fractals. Easy content like dungeons, I’ll bring my 4s, (odd thing to censor?) 5s, and 8s.

I fall somewhere between 2-3 and as infuriating as dying multiple times because dps is low is, what makes me blow up is when they have low dps and they dont listen to advice. When I join a non meta party I dont expect them to be full zerk but I’d like them to follow advice coming from 2+ years of dungeon experience. When I think they have a chance of clearing the dungeon I try to channel my irritation into constructive criticism, when I believe they dont (extremely rare) I just ditch the group no need to kick anyone at that point ( I can 2 man several dungeons and when 4 ppl dont add up to what a single person can do its hopeless).

Only part of the autoattack hitting 3 targets makes it not very good for pve. Maybe it will have some practical applications in pvp.

Change shield 4 into “path of light”

It would be a leap forward. You gain protection and leave behind a lingering trail that grants allies protection and blind enemies. Makes it simultaneously harder to use but also more useful.

Stalwart Defender: Shield skills weaken enemies.

Me too but that would take developmental time. Lesbihonest, Arenanet isn’t going to spend time and money for something like that. They’ve never added or changed SFX on on a weapon standared before. No reason to start now with the Guardian Shield.

A dev finally noticed the “movement bug” after 2 years. It’s time they reversed that decision and give us that QoL aspect we’ve loved since launch.

I can’t say about Revenant, but healing guardian is awful, I tried every way to make it work but without sucess. They must make the elite signet better (the only good thing of this skill is the visual aura) and buff battle presense that is worthless now (already was weak). Also, some skills have insane bad scaling on healing power, like the old bugged #5 shield (the duration of the dome should be 4 seconds instead of 2) dome from its detonation 1300k (0 healing power) to 1500k with a 1500 healing power doesn’t make any sense, it should be at least 2500 with that healing power.

Even healing Warrior is better because you don’t need to take a lot of specific traits to work and the banner trait is not competing with the shout trait anymore, so you can use both. With the same stats (I tested half zealot half cleric), Warrior heals more (healing per second), have better control, mobility and damage output and maybe even more resilience.

The only 2 classes that can heal decently are engi and ele and not because they have awesome healing spells but because they have water fields and several blast finishers. Healing spells in this game are noticeably weak.

Well I do a lot of Silverwastes farming so I’m not actually ALONE per say.

SW is different from Orr farming in that you are not trying to tag mobs that die to a sneeze, and instead you are actually trying to do the most damage you can to succeed the event. Therefore staff should not be your main weapon for SW but you can use it for swiftness on the run.

Well revenant cant do good damage full zerk with any weapon atm their best damage is probably rampager mace axe and it’s mediocre at best. With full zerk a full support bunker guard (no radiance or zeal) can do more damage than a rampager revenant.

Revenant has better heal,in actual useful support support they are miles behind current guards. We have 100% protection uptime, we have Reflectss and more projectile absorbs than them, we have multiple sources of group aegis, we have group quickness and fury, we have group might, we have multiple group stability skills, and I think we have 1 more fire field than them.

The hammer is the fitting weapon for Jalis, while axe/mace is somwhat a condi weapon.
You are basically throwing a staff guardian in zerker gear and expect it to do good damage. No wonder that doesn’t work. You can’t judge the overall DPS right now.

No thats not fair comparison because revenants have 3 weapon sets atm not just 1, Though a guardian might not do optimal dps with a sword or hammer the only actual bad dps weapon is staff, revenant weapon sets are incredibly weak atm since they dont perform much better than each other. Its like they decided to give them the bad weaponsets of each class (mesmer GS= hammer, warrior sword/sword = mace/axe, warrior hammer= staff) except that they are even worse because of no weapon exclusive traits/damage modifier.

ppl also complaining about dmg it does need to relaize the DPS Traitline is the ONE MISSING as Anet clearly said…. And Iam betting that synergize alot better with both Corruption and Invocation then anything we see atm. Patience is the key to happiness and surely something we should be used to here on the Necro Forums.

The traitline is meaningless the most important thing thats missing is the dps weapon set. a lot of the meta builds dont even touch the power traitling and still put out significant damage through conditions or crits. (trapper ranger, medi guard, d/d cele)

Revenant is missing its DPS weapon, its DPS legend, and its DPS trait line.

But you can see 80% of it now.

Strengths
(1) lots of group support fields and finishers

Problems
(1) no blocks
(2)Emphasis on healing, which just isn’t good in GW2

Problems that can be fixed by tweaking numbers
(1) long cast times
(2) Low Damage

There’s good material to start with. The Revenant is not limited by a “can’t do anything useful theme,” and its DPS is not limited because of “utility skills do DPS so weapon skills do less damage, but you can’t even use those DPS utilities because you need to take stun breaks”

Still, the synergies between the tanks weapon and legend, the condition weapons and legend, and the healing weapon plus legend…. These were clearly built or each other, but they aren’t working o great o far.

It took players a while to figure out elementalist rotations. Without the proper traits and rotations, the class doesn’t do that much damage and dies upper fast. The Revenant is unfinished and its going up against people playing their class for 2 years.

I spent an hour dueling my friends yesterday playing a class that I’m not familiar with and I still whooped their butts on a 1v1 but by the end of the hour they were doing much better than when we started so they are bound to be better once they are complete.

Yeah their dps sucks Support & tanky skills aren’t really useful for dungeons.

But kicking someone for being a Revenant? That’s just stupid.
It’s a beta. Players are meant to TEST them in whatever content they want (wvw, pvp, pve)

If they wanna do a dungeon to test (what they’re supposed to do). Deal with it.

Guardian shield isn’t terrible. Shield 4 has 25-30% prot uptime and a 1.0 power coefficient on a 600u cone. If you want more damage, add more power. If you still want more damage, use a weapon built for damage instead of support.

Shield 5 gives a control effect, aoe projectile defense, and possibly heals on a reasonable cooldown. Admittedly it has some bugs and QoL changes to work through, but the design itself is solid.

I mean, it’s not like people are complaining that GS doesn’t give enough Prot, instead they switch to a weapon or set up that gives them what they need.

If they want the guardian to be a Frontline support shield 4 shouldn’t be a frontal cone it should be a circular PBAoE (not even, it’d be fine if it was just the protection going in a circle). The #5 needs to not be channeled for the whole duration or at the very least follow the guard during the channel to compete with SoA and WoR, and the fact that the guardian becomes a target dummy for melee and non projectiles for the full duration of the skill kills it.

What’s your point? You said a 0 second cooldown skill would never get 3 stacks of burning, and I said that that kind of logic shouldn’t apply to elite skills, and for the most part, that kind of logic really doesn’t apply to elite skills.
If you’re trying to imply that burning wasn’t that great before, and it still won’t be on the tome, well that simply isn’t true. There’s a reason guardian burning builds are kind of a thing right now.

Burning builds are a thing because you can stack 15+ stacks with permeating wrath and supreme justice which your AMAZING TOME negates. And that logic does apply because lich form’s strongest skill is the auto attack by now its a running gag that power necro’s only need to press #1 to win because all of their high damage skills like LB and dagger are on AA. Every transformation elite has a strength and lich form’s is Burst damage no other transformation elite can come close to it except maybe rampage and that’s still lower cause its cc focused. Tome of wrath was more buffing oriented than dealing actual damage.

Kind of like how you wouldn’t expect an auto-attack to be able to two-shot you (Lich Form)? Anything goes with elites, and an auto-attack which inflicts three stacks of burning is definitely not out of the question. Even with two stacks I wouldn’t say that’s weak either.
As you can see from CMF’s calculations, Tome of Wrath likely would’ve finally been great. With burning duration it would’ve been able to inflict three seconds of burning (for up to 9 stacks) as well.

The only advantage it had over a weapon AA was the 5 target cap instead of 3 cause you could get longer burns through VoJ.

Difference between those auto-attacks and conflagrate is that conflagrate is a 1200 range AoE. While mindless PvE trash mobs might take those weapon auto-attacks, players in PvP or WvW won’t just sit there in a bundle and take it. Conflagrate wasn’t exactly easy to avoid considering that it just popped up out of nowhere.

How many times did you 2 shot someone with conflagrate before? That would probably be the same number of times you wouldve 2 shot ppl if the tome had remained. 0 times right? The only use the tome saw was giving golems quickness in wvw cause RF>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tome of Wrath offensively and defensively.

Idk whether its better or not but for my MM I use axe/focus instead of dagger warhorn for vulnerability. 25 stacks means 25% more damage from every minion (not life steal). Also instead of soulreaping I use spite. There’s vulnerability on chill, vulnerability on DS, vulnerability on striking a target under 33%, and might and increased damage on targets below 50%.

Now that IP is baseline I use shatters more often in PVE to interrupt or to become immune when I have no illusions up

As a ranger i disagree necro being “lowest in team support”.

warhorn&trait, pet group buffs, spirits, healing spring>vampiric prescence, wells& trait, and other condi remove/transfers from party to self.

Yes I would totally love 2 stacks of burn for 2 secs while locking myself out of everything else >.> WW can give more stacks with VoJ thats how great the tome was.

You don’t know how many stacks of burning it would’ve caused. Although conflagrate never did bad damage in the first place.

If the tomes were given a few buffs or were even just left alone, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d be to guardians what Rampage is to warriors right now (another skill that nobody used before).
