Soo.. Umm Rytlock Never was A Warrior. Heavy Armour Yes. Sword Yes. Pistol Yes… Wait A minute!!. Warriors don’t use pistol. Rytlock’s “class” was always ambiguous since he didnt quite fit. So pefect for the new one obviously
Pistol is a charr racial called hidden pistol, all Charr have it
I find it pathetic as a main guardian the people whine over warrior nerfs I can easily put up more damage with my warrior than on my guard w/o breaking my fingers and using chronometer to time stuff. Warriors use the heaviest armor, the highest healthpool, and an incredibly passive playstyle yet they want to compare their damage to elementalists who forgo any chance of surviving a hit when they go zerk due to 11k hp and light armor, or engineer that is incredibly active to attain max dps. The other class that ties with warriors on healthpool leads the Speed Runs Most Unwanted List.
They moved a lot of the pets out of the starter areas for… reasons.
NPE is the answer for most of what’s wrong with the game currently. They moved TP and a lot of pets out of starting maps because they were “too confusing for new players”
Eles outdamage rangers in just about every way. If you’re counting AoE, eles out damage rangers at long range by a factor of like… 10 or something massive. If you want single target or piercing burst damage, warrior kill shot I think can outdamage a rapid fire. Engi grenades are another contender for huge AoE damage. Engi and ele can reach 1500 range and warriors have to settle for 1200.
Disclaimer: I’m not good at math and not that interesting in this subject.
Just pointing out that Eles do not have 1500 range, they get close with blasting staff but the range is between 1300-1400 in splash due to the F#1 being AoE.
OT: Longbows are used to open fights to stack 15 stacks of vulnerability in dungeons (opening strike), but longbow AA deals reduced damage in close range and staying 1500 units away from the mob is counterproductive and frowned upon. As a result swords are the the weapon of choice for dungeons and in some cases greatswords are accepted. In open world PVE, WvW and PvP longbow is more than viable.
Ok lets look at this from a pvp perspective you want to buff a subpar pvp weapon (immobile while channeling HB, difficult to land WW due to lack of “corners”, weak burst) and then complain it’s too weak for pvp when you have access to axe and hammer to fulfill the same role and more? Bow/hammer do a much better job at stacking long-lasting might than buffing FG.
If he just switched to fire it was probably sigil of battle. Or maybe you didn’t notice arcane blast going off because is intant and you can pretty much use it at the same time as the firefield.
did they fix the fotm bug?
Nope still blows up all your minions if you get downed.
How about no. Forceful greatsword is one of the best PVE traits a warrior can get similar traits have ICDs and they do not off CD reduction for weapon skills.
Future of existing PvE Zerker Meta in HoT

Unless they add unavoidable 15k hits and 15k heals in every fight, the Zerker meta isn’t going anywhere.
Meta is only meta because it is the MOST. Zerker builds might not go away, but looking at the recent content, Arenanet is beginning to design content that will significantly reduce the amount of people who will use Zerker and that is also fine.
That doesn’t mean every useless stat combo will be viable because a new meta is going to develop. Meta is simply part of any online mmo since players prefer the path of least resistance. If Zerker gets weaken a new meta will appear.
Meta is meta not because people use it but because it’s the most efficient. If you can convince 60% of people to run 1 path of AC per hour using Nomad’s be my guest but that will not change the meta. The only fights where Zerk is not meta there is an direct damage reduction (Copper and mordrem husks in general) and when fighting structures where crit and ferocity are completely negated. Unless ANet plans to completely remove crit and ferocity or make those type of encounters equally frequent as encounters without those mechanics, Zerk will be THE meta.
Ive always found greatswords the most fun, fluid and impactful weapons on the other classes. I mean they are all very mobile weapons except for mesmers. They all have nice burst skills. And they have a range of defensive and offensive skills including control on some of them. Hopefully we get something along those lines as currently none of our weapons fills that kind of feel or range of abilities. I love daggers but its pretty boring just auto attacking. So im looking forward to seeing what the greatsword brings.
Warrior GS 2 != mobility in any way shape or form. Neither does Guardian GS 2. The only mobility-themed GS is Ranger and that was still meh to me (might mostly attribute said meh to the fact I really don’t like pets being required for the class).
because warrior GS 3 and 5 is not enough mobility? so you want 100% mobility on a weapon and 0% damage? seems legit, bringing up Guardian and Warrior GS2. Your points are bad
Not to mention that guardian’s GS 2 allows you to move to chase your target unlike other similar burst moves(PW, HB, WD, ZD), making it in fact mobile.

I think weapons like shortbows or longbows don’t fit guardian well. I’d rather see more gap closers with meele weapons.
I think 3 are good enough FB, LoF, JI. People complain enough about me teleporting all over the place and appearing out of nowhere with just those 3 if you want more might as well roll a thief.
I think of two handed weapons as more damaging than one handed weapons, since they are in almost every case, except for maybe Ele scepter, Warrior axe and Ranger sword. Which makes me think it will be very sub-par because Necro dagger is already insanely damaging.. If it were stronger than our dagger AA it’d be pretty OP so it’s either going to be the same or less damaging than our dagger. Which means we still won’t be ideal for PvE and greatsword will not be an ideal weapon for power build in PvP/WvW. This doesn’t mean I think it will be a terrible weapon and I’m sure it will have it’s utility, I’m just saying dagger AA is already very good, I can’t see how greatsword could replace it.
Same way that GS replaces warrior axe, Guardian sword, and in rare cases Ranger sword, better non-AA skills, better mobility, better AoE/cleave.
8 lvl 80s say instant 80 revenant :p
The torch might see some use when Im ranging with the scepter but I’m sticking to focus for melee. The shield will remain in the bank collecting dust for another year. Protection duration is too low on #4, #5 is garbage in PVE now and will still be garbage after patch. Litany of wrath will be unused until it’s instant or heals more.
Every single level 80 exotic accessory has an upgrade slot, if it’s intended not to have one might as well have made it a lvl 5 account bound green, because lower level blues can have much higher stats with gems/jewels.
I wouldn’t mind it being paid as long as i have the option to buy it with ingame gems…
1- Guildhalls
2- More customization of home instance (maybe get an actual home)
3- Greataxe (2h axes) Spears (on land) as weapons
4- Polymock
I welcome whatever other changes they have in mind except for those that break the game further. (looking at you FoTM “fix”)
Roll over and die… Even with 2 condi cleanses from meditations they still kill me so I don’t bother when they are good I just try to run to teamates if I can stay alive long enough.
If stability gets made the norm on tomes, I think the Elite Focus trait should reduce cooldown on tomes. Just making tomes 50% longer isn’t good enough for a master trait, imo.
Right now, entering a tome means instant death if your opponents have conditions, because you have 0 ways of cleansing them(no, #2 of tome of courage does not work that way).
Entering a tome shouldn’t make you invincible (even though ToC nearly does just that, if you’re not focusing your healing on allies), and ToC #2 does cleanse conditions on the user (and quite a lot of conditions if it bounces to the user twice).
As for Tome of Wrath, it’s a long-ranged skill for a reason (same kind of goes for ToC). Although, I wouldn’t mind utility skills being made available in those forms in exchange for less total health/armor gained in each of the tomes.
It should make you nearly invincible for the duration if the damage you are putting out is nonexistent :p
on the bright side guardian shield skills are so terrible that you should almost never use one in any type of content
Ive been wondering for a while why is the laurel vendor tab with LS1 rewards missing half of the rewards. I’m particulry interested in the holographic shattered dragon wings because I missed Dragonbash and they are one of the best looking non-tradeable backpieces in the game.
Consecrations are the best group utilities the guardian has with the exception of sanctuary. purging flames is the best condition removal removing 3 conditions from the whole party while burning enemies and creating a firefield on a 28 sec cooldown. wall of reflection doesn’t need an explanation. and hallowed ground is the longest lasting firefield and group stability.
WTB better scepter auto.
Great idea, I think deathshroud is the most punishing class mechaninc if you are not monitoring your utility cooldowns. It really sucks to come out of deathshroud hoping your spectral armor is ready only to find out it still has 5 more seconds and splat you are dead.
Deathshroud is your ranged weapon :S Staff damage is weak with the exception of #4 and scepter is a condition weapon. Unless you plan on running a condition build lifeblast is your best ranged option.
Hello everyone,
About 500 days ago I created my first character – a necromancer – and leveled him to Level 80 just a few weeks ago. Yes, I have not played guild wars 2 a lot. However, coming back to GW2 this time around the game got me hooked. I’m guilded, running dungeons and the whole lot. I have never been interested in PVP (and from what I’ve read you veterans dislike people like me, the PVE-ers, but seriously for PVP I’ll turn to FPS instead, sorry).
Now, after what seemed an eternity of grinding stupid and meaningless quests, jumping platforms for Vistas and running around like a mad man to find that POI, nobody wants to PVE with me. Everybody says necro is useless to PVE groups.
Honestly, I’m losing interest in the game completely, once again. It’s not fun to be unwanted in every aspect of this game.
So, what do you people think is necro’s place in PVE?
Honestly I’d say this is just terrible game design.
Necros are welcome in WVW and PVP. Anet made them incredibly selfish and detrimental to groups in dungeons which is why no one want’s them in PVE.
Their most groupfriendly utility is vulnerability which 80+% of other classes can provide.
Wells overwrite better combo fields for lifesteal and and blind .
Well of Power is extremely situational as you rarely encounter a situation where the whole party is overwhelmed by conditions.
Well of darkness does no damage on a long cooldown and a guardian with VoJ refreshed on kill can do a better job of blinding things.
Blast Finishers are hard to use/inconvenient the mark requiring to be triggered, bone minions need to stand in the right spot, wurm having a long cooldown .
Here is what I run. It probably will be considered not the best, but I have fun with it.
6 (II, VIII, XIII)/2 (III)/6 (I, II, XII)/0/0
Rune of Balthazar/Carrion Amulet
GS (Sigil of Doom/Sigil Bloodlust)
Mace (Sigil of Ice)
Focus (Sigil of Hydromancy)
Skills
Shelter
Smite Condition
Purging Flames
Judge’s Intervention
Renewed Focus
Why bloodlust of all choices on a condition build? I’d think you’d be better off with geomancy or literally anything else but power that’s removed every time you die.
The problem is that it is assumed that a guardian will have alternative heals built into their spec, so to compensate our primary heal skills are set behind higher cooldowns than the other classes.
The issue with this, however, is that it forces guardian builds to take either AH or MF as sustain to compensate. It is, in a sense, begging the question.
This ^ more or less.
Every & I mean every guardian build that has seen use at higher tiers has either altruistic healing or monks focus in the build.
Guardians just cannot compete without them.Something that could be done would be to replicate the idea of monks focus/altruistic healing but in other trait lines & in coordination with other types of utility skills.
For instance what if they redesigned the grandmaster radiance trait “Perfect Inscriptions” to something like this
“Perfect Inscriptions: Gain X precision for each signet you have equipped & whenever you activate a signet you are healed for Y.The same basic idea could be applied to consecrations in the virtues tree & something could be added to zeal to heal for a % of the damage you do.
This would add a great deal of build diversity as you would no longer be pigeon holed into honor or valor.
I like the copy paste of deep strike, I’m still hoping they will turn signet of wrath into a precision signet given how useless condition damage is to a class with 1 damaging condition.
I have confirmed shattered aegis and pure of heart, but I do not think unscathed contender affects teammates otherwise retreat + virtue of courage + RF would be better than Timewarp.
DS should remove regen and make them immune to regen til it ends problem solved.
And put 25 stacks of Vulnerability, so Mesmers and Thieves can show off their skillfull instagib burst even better!
How is that in any way related to regeneration being detrimental to necros in DS? Mesmers and thieves will have burst regardless who they are facing .
i can imagine guardian with more tooltip updates
for a better guardian balance offcourse.
lol i think 90% of guard changes since launch have been tooltips
DS should remove regen and make them immune to regen til it ends problem solved.
The hate mostly spawns from supplycrate, someone spends most of their skills trying to aoe down the engi and the turrets only to have them return immediately and flipping the table on a one on one match, which is why people who can’t fight knowing this just move on to another point to cap instead of fighting the engi or bring others to zerg him.
Remove the ICD on searing flames and ill gladly burn all those extra boons from eles by becoming paper on fire to rock
Well, it can work in open world pve, but yep, you won’t do big damage, you won’t have aoes for tagging, you won’t have permanent swiftness.. It comes down to a matter of personal preference. Some people I know really love their mesmer and even with these obvious disadvantages they enjoy playing it more than say, a thief or an ele. If you like cc, eles have good area controls+ everything the mesmer lacks in open world pve ( swiftness/movement skills, damage, offensive support and self buffing, cleaving/aoes).
I have returned to GW after almost 2 years less then a week ago, but my 80 mesmer have to disagree with most of the stuff you wrote:
- I had the same problem with lack of speed buffs for mesmer, because I like openPvP most – but friendly people here on the forum showed me the way: perma swiftness is quite easy to obtain for Mesmer – Centaur runes + Mirror is 13sec uptime swiftness with 15sec recast… if you have few points in Chaos you can easily get 15 sec uptime. Add IV from Inspiration and every 15 sec you have heal+15sec swiftness+2 sec reflect +2conditions self removal…
- with GS 3 you have nice aoe for tagging, Staff 1 with extra bounce trait can tag also nicely
- I am quite happy with dps – using mainly GS with mostly Berserker exotic equip – nothing to brag about – but works quite nicely – and works from range, while you have utilities to stay at range
…. tbh every time I tried another class I have returned to Mesmer:
- War 80 – too straightforward “jump them and bash them” to my taste
- Necro 40somethin – hate Staff skills (only really ranged weapon), hate Death Shroud mechanic
- Guard 35+ probably only other class I somehow liked, but do not want to level now new char and enjoying Mesmer too much… also it has no ranged weapon (scepter is really bad IMHO) and I prefer to have good ranged weapon
- Thief, Engineer tried, deleted… one of them acts as mule
- never tried Ranger nor Ele ….PS: caster with GS!!!!
You do know that with the healing mantra and runes of the centaur you can get permanent swiftness without wasting any traits for boon duration right?
News flash: Berserker’s Power doesn’t work with burst skills anymore. Both Eviscerate and AS are kitten in PvE. 12k arcing slice is not believable in PVP.
Works great for my PS build with that extra fury and cleave and the damge is decent post 50%. Not great for the GS/ Ax/Mac meta but it’s still better than it’s original version of a 1target /low damage /fury skill
They need to either remove the charges or remove the duration it sucks to be limited by 2 conditions. The charges kill conjures with fast auto attacks and the duration kills conjures with long cooldown skills.
I know it sounds completely ridiculous but Rangers seem to be the most frequent offenders when it comes to knockback. I have never seen a guard use banish in PVE in the wrong setting, I’ve rarely seen mesmers misuse illusionary wave (like twice, most use into the void to properly position mobs), never seen a warrior w/o the Juggernaut using a hammer, never seen a necro ( I have but there’s so few its kind of sad). Probably it something to do with the notion that rangers are a ranged class therefore longbow is the weapon of choice for beginners. They could make #4 a knockdown + backleap to keep the same effect of creating a gap and disabling the opponent in pve but Im sure pvpers will not like it.
Meta build with knight’s/valkyrie’s armor, NEVER go for PVT in PVE unless you’d like a spectator mode on pve. The only situations where pvt can deal decent damage is when fighting structures/super bosses that cannot be crit (tequatl/nightamre tree/ burrows)
Anet loves to make use of non-experience-granting mobs and summoned minions in the LS which makes renewed justice useless in some settings
Scholar is the best if you can keep 90% health 60% of the time. Runes of the flame Legion are a cheaper alternative, runes of the ranger also work if you use a mini, and probably the worst choice you have are runes of strength.
Evasion regen ranger. It will outheal most if not all the damage it cannot evade
troll unguent was named correctly by anet :p
They should probably replace vulnerability with poison or torment (plz no more confusion) for more consistent damage since vulnerability is pretty much a dps loss for a condition build. Other than that winds of chaos is fine.
He probably fought a guardian who invested everything into burn, and he’s complaining that his kittenty build that isn’t useful for anything cannot replicate the same damage with minimal effort.
It does heal you which caused the increased presence of meditation builds in pvp, that or the new meta stomping the bunker guard with more ease.
But if they could just fix the problem with the 3rd auto-attack I would be fine. The sword fill its role of sustain between GS burst just fine. Its not a complete useless weapon.
To be honest, I don’t see how or why the sword would fill a role of sustain between greatsword bursts, when sword auto and greatsword auto basically do the same damage (greatsword does 1035 based damage with a full chain in 2.5 seconds, sword does 1042 base damage with a full chain in 2.5 seconds). In fact, greatsword auto could be considered superior thanks to better cleaving, less mechanical issues and might on the third attack.
In a PvE situation where you want to maximize damage, it would actually make more sense to use a mace or even hammer alt.
The answer is RHS+ the 10% sword damage increase if you include those in your build sword AA> GS AA by a bit not to mention that the sword AA always procs VoJ upon completion while the GS only does it every 2 AA sequences.
Warrior: Main hand Mace/ Rifle
Guardian: Torch/Shield
Ranger: Shortbow
Ele: Scepter? (I know its great for stacking might but all skills blow damage wise and they end up using conjures)
Engineer: Pistol/Pistol ( the only reason to use a pistol is to have access to the more useful shield in pvp)
Necromancer: Axe ( i know it was buffed recently but it’s still pretty weak for a single target weapon)
Mesmer: Scepter/Torch
Thief: I don’t think they have any terrible ones as most weapons have their uses with the right build/content type.
I’ve always wanted a cloak/cape/mantle to make my guardian look more heroic.
