Mesmer with soi and focus has perma swiftness no need for chrono.
How did you manage to remove traitlines? Usually they give you a preset build when you go into pvp where you have minors affecting some things like symbols.
When you swap they are empty, the minors are probably still there though.
If zeal is slotted hammer gets a 10% boost on symbol and 2 stacks of vulnerabilty permanently if virtues is slotted 2% damage increassed by the protection and aegis and if honor is slotted virtues gives an additional 1% from the passive vigor.
Quoth the raven…

Poor comparison hammer damage is loaded on the traited Auto attack, whirling wrath deals more damage than stated, sword damage is loaded on auto attack. All weapons you mentioned deal more damage on average than longbow when built right.
Pretty sure condi guards prefer base VoJ cause Passive > active in most situations and in those that dont qualify instant > cast for blind might and refresh.
WTB no steal + heartseeker :S
For those who missed it:
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/26/gw2-twitchcon-skill-balance-update-preview/Shield of Judgment – will now apply 4s of Protection in both PvP and PvE.
- Many have asked for it, glad we got it.
Shield of Absorption – changed to 4s channel from 1.25s channel but in compensation we are no longer rooting you when you use this skill so you can move around with the bubble.
- Absolutely Needed It!!!
Feel my Wrath – increased the recharge from 30s to kitten . It was too strong.
- Indifferent! Maybe a WvW thing?? A Specialization Thing??
Save Yourselves! – Was split between PvP and PvE version, now we are using the PvE version across all modes.
- Needed It! Assuming this was a buff.. .. I don’t use the shout.. .. guess that’s why we needed it :P
FMW was the best PVE Elite ever. with 5 guards you could have 100% quickness uptime in dungeons. Even with a single guards it would mean 5 secs of quickness for every single boss encounter because the cooldown was so low unlike TW.
arent all the backpack wings already enough? oh god, please anet – LESS wings – you start more and more looking like a cheap free to play korean mmo
We need cloaks/capes not cheesy wings
<<<- is actually wearing cheesy wings >.>
No one who watches the ebb and flow of professions could possibly have thought Feel My Wrath wasn’t gonna get a longer cooldown on the next balancing pass. Which has now arrived. Maybe we can get 40 seconds instead of 45, but yeah. No surprises there.
Shield got two really good buffs. Now it’s at least plausible to use it.
All and all a pretty good day and a couple of our regular foils got kicked in the junk as a bonus. Plus the possibility of more on Tuesday.
SAYONARA ! 5 guards permaquickmess parties T-T
It used to be a good way of purging condis from your group in WvW, this was pre condi buff patch.
Now in large conflicts it’s an instant death sentence as you pull 22 stacks of confusion and 10 stacks of burn and insta die.
It absolutely needs 5 seconds of resistance to make it even partially viable in the current condi meta of WvW. Maybe it’s still useful in sPvP where condis are not as prominent?
It’s not, you’re asking Necros to destroy you if you use it…
Rather die to necros corrupt boon than to my own skill. It doesnt have to be an unbeatable skill it just needs to not suck and not cause me to die immediately.
In a perfect situation where you have 25might, fury, and the target has 25 vuln dagger is better than RS AA otherwise RS AA gives way too many benefits to be overshadowed by dagger AA.
Because thief’s consume plasma is overpowered … wait that doesnt make sense lets ask karl.
Sounds like a medi bunker since the damage was low.
Guardian’s role isn’t being diluted. If anything it will be more important because of how well it complements Revenant.
Your name is quite ironic…if you think guardians will compliment Revenants then you are truly misguided. Why bring a guard when you can bring a thief, 2 x eles, and a mesmer along with the Revenant.
However, in all honesty I hope I am wrong and you are right.
Can revenants reflect? Can revenants provide quickness ? Can revenans blind spam? Can revenants aegis/block spam? We have our answer guadian has the third most complete support kit in the game after ele and engi and wont be easily replaced. DH is a completely different story.
Reflect – no, block yes: Hammer 4 = 6s every 12s. Ventari tablet = upto 20s. In reality that’s 100% block uptime, more than any other class.
Quickness – yes, and more than Guardian. Shiro 9 is upto 18s (granted that’s starting at 100% energy and only AA, but they still can provide more than 5s every 30s).
Blind – Yes, more than Guardians if the spam Ventari tablet and trait Blinding truths. Basically 5s blind every 2s.
Aegis – No, this is where Guardian’s still are the best. They are also better at providing stability as some have pointed out and Guardian’s are better condi cleansers.
That said, Rev’s also do the following:
- Perma Fury
- Perma Regen
- Perma Swiftness
- +150 Ferocity (Assassin’s Presence)
- Perma Protection (though this is at a huge cost to energy regen)
- Taunt (don;t know how useful this is)
- 25 stacks of Vuln by themsleves
- 50% boon duration (this is probably more important than anything else)
Will Guardian’s be viable post HoT? I think so. Will it be meta in raids? I’m not so sure. I just think Herald added a lot more to Rev’s than DH did for Guardians. I use to main Guardian but DH put me off and beta hasn;t changed my mind. Right now, unless boon sharing goes to 10 or something similar, Nike from DnT posted something about future meta having to exclude classes. I do fear that Guardian’s could be pushed out of that role in favor of Rev’s. We’ll see I guess.
Note that I didnt mention projectile destruction/absorption (not block) because its a dps loss when you can reflect, they are only superior against quirky projectiles that can be destroyed but not reflected or when you need 100% projectile defense uptime.
Providing quickness is not the same as having quickness. And half of the things you mentioned cant be maintained due to energy costs 2 legend limitation and trait line limitations.
As things are the PVE rev build will be shiro/glint Devastation/invocation/Herald leaving no room for blind and ventari’s projectile absorption. Perma boons are only permanent as long as you only auto attack in glint since swapping legends ends facets and using other skills use up energy.

Call me when Revenants get Greatsword, in the meantime I’ll be playing my subpar Reaper.
Longbow works best with signets spirit weapons and consecrations.Meanwhile traps only work with sword greatsword hammer and mace.
How does that contradict anything of what I said? Zeal minors are not optional and only affect 2h weapons and mace. To make things worse the scepter trait is in the zeal line. And in fact you are wrong in saying scepter wont benefit due to lack of kb when scepter shield is one of the few times shield is useful and you could have hammer on swap.
(edited by Vizardlorde.8243)
Cripple, Vulnerability, slow, and longbow.
Same goes for Zeal master and GM minors if you use sword/scepter while the adept rewards playing poorly and punishes people for hitting a bad guard.
Bleed on trap was not useful so not going to misss it and real condi guards (made viable by the condition stacking patch) wont miss them either since their build relies on on utilities to survive and deal damage they cant afford to lose heals and condi cleanses for in exchange for pathetic bleeds and nearly no survivability.
Yes, that’s why you have the choice to not use it. Working as intended. Almost all the negative feedback I see for DH seems to start with the premise it’s suppose to be better or players must find a way to incorporate it into their game. Not true.
People have every right to be disappointed that the shiny new playstyle that they were promised is garbage. Sure, people can choose to not use it, but that doesn’t give them any less right to be disappointed at how subpar it is.
I am so looking forward to taking up this conversation 3 months after HoT launches – there’s really only two outcomes: either the revised and refined Dragonhunter has at least one meta-worthy build constructed around the tools it offers… or we’ll have the accumulated metrics data to show that it needs to be buffed until that is true.
Or a third option they’ll nerf monk’s focus to the ground to make medi guardian less appealing, therefore DH will be GUD. RITE GUISE? ( looking at virtues is not as unlikely as I would like it to be)
And also I do want a different way of playing Guardian (or at least a different variation of one of our current builds), but it has to be one that isn’t objectively worse than what we already have. Neither of those are going to be provided by the Dragonhunter.
I also don’t believe it will be better than current builds considering Anet think they have the class where they want it for balance.
On the other hand, I don’t think anyone has enough information to objectively say how DH will perform at release and relative to all the other elites and vanilla professions. Frankly, I think you’re just hating because you dislike the whole concept. I think that’s unreasonable.
Nope not really instant virtues provide the guardian with better active defenses which the DH lacks, meanwhile all channeled DH virtues aren’t meaningful enough to justify the channel with the exception of F3 in WvW or an intense group fight. Trueshot is inferior to scepter/torch since it restricts movement preventing DH from delivering decent damage while chasing that base guardian can do better. Traps are OK for wvw with trapper runes but meditation will still be the staple for pvp and shouts/consecrations for pve. So what does DH bring to guard? A better ranged AA than scepter (maybe after these changes that Karl and the other Dev announced), unreliable access to cripple, a slow, a reveal, and more vulnerability.
“Feel My Wrath” is pretty silly. At the very least the cooldown needs to be bumped up. Also burning could definitely use a nerf, but that’d honestly have just as much (if not more) of an impact on Ele and Engi as opposed to Guardian.
Beyond that, I think putting a 1/4 cast time on Smite Condition would be okay. It’s a little unfair that you can CC a Guardian and they can just slap you back for ~3k AoE damage and heal themselves for 2k while they’re still on the ground.
Other than that, I really don’t think there’s anything OP about Guardian left that hasn’t been nerfed already, usually to the point of overcompensation. Plenty of things that still need some love, though.
Leave FMW out of this… I dont want my 5 guard fractals to not be a thing anymore.
I’ll hold my judgment til i get my hands on it but I think GS will be fine with 4% lf per chain and a fixed #3, not taking blighter’s boon into account.
What really impresses me is that not only Robert made awesome changes to the reaper and the chronomancer, but he also responded to guardians and elementalists that were asking for their own changes. He did this while he was not even responsible for these professions. Keep up the good work Rob!
I truly wonder what is going on with our developer…
Same! Would be amazing if he turned sudden hero and had time for the real fixes. It’s never too late to make some changes. I mean I am 100% that a good portion of us don’t want DH to be OP; we just want it to be enjoyable and add to the experience. It doesn’t have to have the best of everything but it should appeal to at least portion of its player-base.
It makes me frown heavily when I know it’s safe to assume DH will be one of the least if not THE least played elites upon HoT live if nothing we left feedback about doesn’t get at least applied for testing. DH could be amazing if it gets the love it needs. But. Will it get it?
(Queue “I need a hero” song please. ;_;)
Robert Gee is not the guardian dev and if you have seen Karl in livestreams he looks like he wants to crawl under a rock when the hosts give him the spotlight, regardless how amazing his ideas might be communication is obviously not his forte.
I’m not saying to ogle the forums day in and day out for suggestions but occasionally take a look. I’m also not saying to take every single suggestion into consideration because honestly, a lot of people might have good intentions but the suggestions made are lopsided at best.
How do you know they aren’t doing that? You can’t assume they aren’t, just because they don’t reply as much as you think they should.
I don’t know but have you seen any of the suggestions put forth by players ever actually implemented? I haven’t.
Check out other subforums. I would suggest Mesmer for the best example. Robert Gee gets much love from us over there. It’s like night and day. Comparing how beta went with that Dev compared to who ever is rolling around on DH and Tempest.
I really hate Mesmer, it’s always so strong after each balance patch and Chronomancer will make the class OP…
Check out reaper then pretty much all the suggestions for reaper were either implemented or aknowledged. And he then wen out of his way and mentioned wanting to redo axe and scepter giving them hope for the future. Thats a dev that is doing his job right at least in the eyes of us customers.
I honestly couldnt find anything enjoyable about DH the casted/broken virtues killed it for me. The traps except fragments of faith felt wrong since they take away from guardian support. Traits were mostly poorly designed and dont synergize with other lines. As a result I deleted my DH and played my weak reaper and revenant the rest of the beta. Despite being incredibly weak in pve they felt fun. They felt undertuned and not broken unlike DH.
not touching it…
This is a joke, right? How did they manage to completely ignore all the feedback they got? Everyone complained about the exact. same. things.
Also, “LB skills were well recieved”… what?
Just shows how out of touch the guard department is… “hey guys I heard you werent happy with shield skills, so we reduced their cooldown by 40% kthxbai” and now " hey guys we heard you didn’t like dragon hunter so we buffed everything not mentioned in feedback in the laziest way possible kthxbai"
Wow all the skills that everyone hated they just added damage/duration and said “FIXED”. No wonder he didnt want to release this on Friday now he’s gona get forum bashed to oblivion moreso than before. He really didnt pay attention to any feedback since he didnt even mention possible future mechanic changes unlike Robert on the reaper. PS with all the conditional traits might as well rename the class the Boolean.
In regards to damage modifier changes, every class, including ourselves, received a buff in damage thanks to the patch so it’s not a nerf. He’s needs to compare what the Guardian is now, than what he was prepatch. When it’s all said and done, nearly everything is considered a buff.
The biggest changes that I agree with is the ICD on Might and Glacier Heart being in virtues. Anet purposely made it that way, whether we agree with it or not. I guess they thought we can’t have good burst with Hammer, as well as, have teamwide condi cleanses.
Wrathful Spirit, Radiant Retaliation (no, trolls don’t use it), Perfect Inscriptions
One of the Fr, Dutch, Sp, forums actually utilizes these traits in WvW. I forget which. The quoted person hasn’t looked into other forums to view their meta game. People surprisingly use traits that we otherwise deem worthless. Wrathful Spirit is far from worthless. Whirling Wrath 5 people with 290 to 320 retaliation damage. That’s 35 hits in groups, yielding 10k Retaliation dmg. It’s darn near OP.
..I have no idea what he’s trying to say about Pure of Sight. Even the Ranger’s range dmg modifier wasn’t made baseline. Pure of Sight is a nice trait considering it stacks well with Unscathed Contender. The traits also effect Scepter and Zealot’s Flame.
The quoted person sounds like our playstyle got screwed over when it’s the exact same. Just be glad we didn’t end up like Thieves.
the only reason to use perfect inscriptions is to make judgment/bane signet’s passive stronger and the cd reduction, not the aura, and mentioning that it’s being used does not automatically make it a good trait, it’s symply the best of 3 bad traits for power builds ( AW is good for condis but not that good for power)
you can command it to reposition it
i dont believe this is important for anyone other than pve players
rending shroud
spiteful spirit
weakening shroud
foot in the grave
furious demise
shrouded removal
beyond the veil
life from death
unholy martyr
all of those traits benefit from flashing and only a couple benefit pve…
Reaper greatsword does less AA dps than ranger greatsword and rangers have a pet to compensate for lower weapon damage than other classes. The only weaker GS AA is mesmer’s. guardia’s AA is ~ 71% more dps and warrior’s is ~ 45% more dps.
Devs dont know wtf they are doing. 2 professions give up their class mechanics to replace them with new ones and then 2 professions simply gain new class mechanics. Necros lose their range and guards lose their group support and RF synergy while eles and mesmers dont give up anything for overloaded attunements and new shatter.
- and # 2 either need more damage or shorter cast/aftercast. number 3 could use more damage but could stay as is if they buff #1 &/or #2 I actually like #4 and #5 idk what to think of it.
Now reapershroud… ILOVEIT<3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of us never expected the GS AA to beat the dagger’s in dps but most of the damage will be packed in the 2-4 skills like every other greatsword .
How about something like reduced cooldown on weapon phantasms(not utilities) and shatters per shattered phantasm so you can create a sort of rotation that relies on summoning 3 phantasms letting them all hit once or twice mindwrack and start again.
Using staff in dungeons where it’s not needed is a good way to get kicked. If you have a phalanx strength warrior or a might stacking ele then there’s no need for staff unless you were using it to kill volatile blossoms in TA.
Of course it’s up to you but like I say you may get kicked from pug groups if you do, use at own risk.
This^
Bringing staff to dungeons is like going to war with water balloons.
Not disagreeing with you but the burning changes makes staff a half decent condition weapon if using Permeating Wrath against trash mobs. And I find it as a particularly useful replacement for IB eles on AC p3 burrows along with FMW. alternating between empower and FMW to melt burrows with GS and beefed up party members.

Is this the same bad ele that was complaining about smiter’s boon two weeks ago?
This is why I despise account soul bound items. I have lots of stuff in my bank like. shattered wings which I would gladly sell to you but can’t.
I would gladly pay you 100s of gold for them wings if I could… They are the only LS backpiece I actually like.
Thieves need greatswords to become Tera slayers
Yikes on CoE mobs my guardian does 30k WW on 5 mobs compared to necro axe #2 on a single target my guard does like 10x the burst damage.
Orr farming only requires a staff…
Duelist’s Preparation on the Rev OH sword has no secondary effect like Counterattack, which blocks all attacks for 3s (50% longer than revenant) and also attack back anyone in melee range for good damage and knock them back 300.
If you do not want the KB animation to happen, you have to get out of melee range, or use Crippling Throw before the animation begins.
Rev gets a 2nd skill on OH #4 that is like crippling throw, but immobilises 3 targets.
The animation could be a little more fluid, but the amount of people I have interrupted and crit for 5k+ with counterattack means I want it to stay as is really. I just love it, especially with intelligence sigil.
It is pretty hard to get out of melee range if you’re blocking and a Mesmer is using Phantasmal Berserker on you.
And your argumentation that the Revenant can block only half as long as the Ranger can is irrelevant when you look at the quantity of blocks the Revenant gets. The Ranger has exactly one block.
phantasmal berserker and #5 are the only blockable skills on the mesmer GS so GS block isnt gona help much against them.
Yeah, we won a battle!
I think I can spot the bearbow in the gif
..!
Unarmed/fighting gauntlet Warrior confirmed!
I wish. Really nice image though, clearly depicting a Warrior vs. Ranger scenario in PvP; moments later the Ranger will be a small puddle of gore and splintered bones on the floor, as it should be.
100% rampage uptime confirmed :S
