Well the 10 target charge was too good for wvw when everyone else’s boons only affect 5ppl at a time. The rest I think it’s uncalled for.
chill is the worse of the two IMO cause not only does it reduce movement but also slow down your skills.
I was disappointed at the revised announcement (staying at 5% instead of 10%) then I looked at all the useless ascended boxes in my bank and got a huge smile on my face
Actually what they are doing is very commendable compared to others in the market that churned out an expansion every 2 years and required you to pay close to full price per expansion until recently to be able to enjoy the game.
What we really need, is another tech savy organisation (of evil!) to reinvent the jetpack, resulting in another chance to attain a different variation of the same thing.
We could have charr and norn band together to create a kegpack that uses ale as propulsion :S
In fairness i will say that Jon mentioned in chat today that Engineers will be getting nerfed.
Karl said that the reason this patch is going live now is so the devs can continue to balance the professions.
So either every single other profession will be nerfed in line with Guardian or Guardians will be buffed to be in line with every single other profession…. hopefully.
Lets hope so, but well face an awful couple of weeks- month before things return to normal.
I dont want the tradeable exclusives to come back as vendor freebies, but they need to revise the list of untradeable stuff available at the vendor.
I dont want to victim blame, but there are several ways to avoid being kicked from a group:
1) Read the group description and understand that you may not be what they are looking for.
2) Your class might not be the most adequate for specific content, if you are going to play a subpar class at least go for the best build.
3) Achievement points despite being mostly useless tell parties how dedicated/experienced you are so if you are low you might want to get to 5k AP min
Gaile said yes in another thread.
As one of the stalwart souls who braved the Molten Facility over, and over, and over, and OVER again until I got that drop, I would be super sad if it became available for a bag of gold and a couple of laurels. It’s unfortunate that some people weren’t playing during that time. It’s a very sentimental in game item for me, when I think of the hours upon hours of running the same dungeon until I got it.
Would you be disappointed if it made a return ( or a recolor/very similar skin) as a rare drop from a hypothetical remake of LS S1?
Well we’ll become condition fodder now that spammable conditions an reach 5k per tick it only takes 2 ticks to kill us now.
Seems like we were nerfed based on the DH reveal with the 6k burns from the non condi guard vs chieftan.
I’m still waiting for holographic shattered dragon wings >.>
Did any testing actually take place before these changes were rolled out? It seems like things were balanced based on general opinion because in the first stream of of the Dragonhunter an unskilled guardian was doing 5-6k burn ticks on an actual fight. Now the patch comes and guardian can barely manage 4k burns with an all out burn build and engi which was not shown on any stream before is getting 8k burns with ease on top of all other conditions they throw out. Is balance based on the twitch channel comments or do people actually compare numbers, test builds, and fight other people instead of test dummies?
Shattered aegis breaks stealth if you step into an AoE or get hit so …
Healing is not the best support, arguably not even good support, reflects/absorbs, condicleanse and stability are the best support we have and dont necessarily require us to have terrible damage.
siphon cant crit cant be boosted by vulnerability and it’s not affected by damage multipliers, unless the numbers are HUGE dagger/warhorn are the only way to make it not garbage.
Focus 1 guardian and the other wont get aegis once he’s dead… besides there are plenty of unblockable skills and boonstrips atm.
This is a concern of mine aswell, since i have already geared my guardian with ascended with this gear change i may have to go through and recreate my armor as most my vit comes from the trait lines.
Trinkets/accessories are easier to replace than ascended armor.
WTH if anything well have more HP than before with builds that had no vit and the same Hp on bunkers.
Cooldown reductions will ont fix shield unless they make it 10 secs on #4 and ~15 secs on #5 and all it will do is cause people to spam them on cooldown which isnt the correct way to go about it. The skills need to be reworked. #4 needs some form of cc like daze stun, knockdown or taunt and the protection needs to affect allies in a circle not a frontal cone. The #5 skill needs to allow the guardian to move after it is placed, being a sitting duck for non projectile ranged attacks or enemies immune to cc no es bueno.
I’m levelling my guardian as we speak. Legit answers should I jump ship or will we be fine? Only other class I have is engi. Only other class I’d enjoy is probably mesmer or elementalist. Should I stay guard?
It will be just fine people are crying over nothing
Where do we get nervs? I
Read the notes again.
lets see hammer becoming a viable dps weapon, mace replacing sword, access to fury and quickness on a 30 sec cooldown, increased burning duration on VoJ passive, and access to 1-3 GM traits( most PVE builds had 1 GM if any 4/5/0/0/5 etc) doesnt seem like a bad trade
That’s IF you pick them. I’m curious why are you purposely avoiding these lines:
Virtue of Justice, Resolve, Courage: The radius of the active portion from these abilities have been reduced from 1200 to 600.
Fiery Wrath: Damage against burning foes is increased by 7%.
Scepter being in symbol line.
Battle Presence: This trait no longer functions if Resolution is on cooldown.
I never said we didnt get some better stuff, but you are denying we never get nerfed. So there I just proved to you. Gotta read everything, you know?
I think trade implies giving up something you know… and FYI the sole reason why we go radiance ATM is the 10% damage multiplier. The only major trait that’s useful on that line is Vulnerability on blind. The changes will be bringing far more useful traits than what we currently have. Right now you(not you in specific but all the people complaining) are crying about trait changes for traits we never had.

Well mace will be replacing sword in dungeons, but if you are going Honor might as well pick up a hammer which would render the mace to situational at best. So the trait either misplaced or underwhelming
The Fiery Wrath nerf is completely unjustified when you take into account the fact that burning uptime is already getting severely nerfed with the intensity stacking change. Pretty baffling IMO.
Im guessing they are assuming the base guard will be taking Radiance + Virtues for the ZF on crit and the Improved VoJ passive + PW which wont be terrible with the buff to burn duration

They nerfed virtue range just to make the DH’s new virtue seemed like a buff.
No they are obviously trying to encourage stacking and the zerker meta >.>
Bear in mind that conditions as a whole have been changed/re-scaled and burning will stack now so it may not be the straight nerf you’re anticipating.
It is a nerf because they nerfed conditions to scale better with condition damage and nerfed burning again to make it stackable. With AW shelter will only give a mediocre 2 stacks of burn instead of 10 against a rapid fire.
I actually think that we are going to get nerfed, that sexy shout elite just seems too good to be true in PVE.We are basically 3x better than mesmers at providing quickness and we finally gain access to fury. It would also work wonders with gimicky builds that use runes that proc on elite.
We apply burning passively, its not like AW increses bleed/poison damage that forces us to change our build/playstyle to benefit from it.
In pve your suggestion might fly but in pvp and wvw its a straight forward nerf both to the ability to support and to effective dps. The ranged symbol is a huge controbution to damage and forcing the opponent to move.
There are a bunch of stunts you can do with the ranged symbol that would be impossible to perform with a self centered symbol.
What the hammer need is:
Faster auto attack and timed with cd on mb so mb has a clear role in pve dps rotation.
Remove the light field from symbol
Make the auto deal aoe just as it does today and 1-2 sec protection in one pulse.
Make RoW a fire field and allow us to move while casting
Increase damage on banish and zealots embrace so the fil a place in pve rotationHammer auto dont need the symbol to be selfcentered, it would make the weapon just as bad as gs/mace symbols in wvw on particular.
Wait guards actually use hammer AA in pvp? and here I thought only 2-5 were used due to #1 being slow as hell, easily avoided, and requires a target within range to trigger the symbol.
Double K9 Wolf/Khound
@Sneakier
I actually deal more damage with my Longbow with my melee meta traits.
Just saying. And I wouldn’t compare Ranger to Mantra Healer mesmer at Mai Trin I don’t remember wiping once with that.
LB Ranger is like of the worst things you can get at Mai Trin. You draw her out of the fields – which prolongs the fight like 10 fold.
No you are not you are just seeing a big damage spike rapid fire on a single target and ignoring no cooldown auto attack cleave on 3 target which do higher dps than RF on CD on a single target. Not to mention all the might and fury and banners you might be missing out for sitting 1000 units away from the group.
Axe is probably the worst weapon in the game, but it isn’t too far from being useable.
Guard shield says HI!
It’s also meta in keeping terrible pub teammates alive.
Very true but then thats not a meta party, just a guadian mule carrying people :S
Boiwatusayin? Hammer is meta lol. Maybe not in combination with GS, but hammer is part of the meta guard build.
I get the vibe that he’s talking about pve where its only meta in high level fractals.
@ OP you are right with Writ of persistence Hammer is only a very small dps loss over Sw/F&GS. If people are good players its a bigger dps loss because it interferes with might blasting but if no one is throwing out firefields, its just people who dont know jack making assumptions because its not in the meta.

You are not being kicked for being A ranger you are being kicked for playing a subpar build. You dont see warriors playing with rifles, thieves with double pistols, staff mesmers in any decent group. Longbow is BAD to camp in PVE because it deals subpar damage in melee and if you slit from the group for max damage it will cause mobs to run all over the place. In addition to no cleave and poor sustained AoE it will make fights take longer. Any decent ranger will use his bow to stack vulnerability then switch to sword/ x or GS and help the group instead of being a hindrance.
10s all-boon is just too stupid
guards SYS is nerfed to 5s in pvp with a 1m cooldown why cant they do the same to consume plasma?
The auto attack is lower than scepter for power damage.
I don’t want to defend the axe’s auto attack, but that’s not true.
On topic, dagger (or scepter) have better auto attacks but the axe has better skills 2-3.
So the real question is: how often do you auto attack?
Nope its true the direct damage per second is roughly equal and the scepter beats it with the additional condition application.
Mesmers think thieves should be toned down a little so they don’t struggle that hard against them >.>
Hey anet, did you know that in all of our builds, that adding a third trait line to condi or power, really does not do crap at the grandmaster level? I play several other classes and im practically drooling at the idea of adding a 3rd grandmaster, and heck master level trait, while for the necro, it simply doesn’t freaking matter because no grandmaster brings jackhammered kitten to the class.
Power, i guess you can add blood magic for some real awesome syphon skills, and get a lackluster GM, same with DM, get nothign really for that line. Cureses GM sucks for power, so yeah, poop on that.
Condi? what? add power? whoopie dee dooo, blood? nope, dm? guess im stuck with DM, but that will be underwhelming as most are minion focused. yay. so awesome. same old necro, just more lines to blink at.
Thats true for base necro, but for reaper you can go Spite/Soulraeping/Reaper (power) and Curses/Soulreaping /reaper(condi). Until we see the changes to BM I’ll consider BM and DM leveling/minionmaster lines.
Relentless , you hate everything about the game and complain about everything universally so why should we be surprised your going to continue to add negative feedback and offer no real intellectual responses? If you would theory craft and stop complaining you could find something you enjoy.
And trap ranger works in anything below tourney lvl game play
Sorry for speaking honestly. I see no sense in saying X Y or Z is good if it is not.
On the other hand, I have seen how fanboi feedback, where people with concerns were shouted down by people like you, during various stages of beta and testing has lead to a lot of disasterous game decisions which has caused this game to fall from being a highly anticipated challenger to WOW to a ghost town.
You don’t go from having a full friends list with lots of people on line to one that is always empty without the developers royally screwing up.
I kinda hoped this expansion might make the game better but really it looks like more of the same silly fluff they’ve done for the last 3 or so years.
When I open my friendlist there is at most 1 person online. Everyone else quit. I can’t blame them, Anet burned us hard. The only reason why I’m still here is because of all the potential this game has.
Someone really smart designed guardian. You have this frontline fighter whose job it is to protect his teammates. He even deals good damage so you can play solo.
To make sure nothing gets out of control they gave him slow movement speed and low base hp. But right now guardian is far far away from that. Dragonhunter just gives us more of the same but this time with ranged. And kittenty traps that make no sense because guardians are too slow to set them up beforehand.Edit: Keep it about the dragonhunter pvp stream guys. Off topic stuff gets us killed yo
Make new friends? people ceasing to play cause they are burned out is completely normal and happens in every single game. Heck I quit wow when all my friends abandoned me right after ICC wasted money on Cataclysm cause i couldnt get myself to play past the 1st month.
Path of Corruption is what made Terrormancers viable for a while in the PvP meta. It’s a very good trait and, for any build, a good choice.
hes talking about pve where mobs rarely have more than 1 boon on them.
Im personally not a terrormancer heck not even a necro main but here’s my 2 cents. Allow the fears to run their full course before applying another one bacause 1 stunbreak or condi cleanse can get rid of allyour fears if you use them at once.
Use signet of spite for condition burst and to cover your other conditions.
For the longest time every game has a dragoon/dragon slayer heavy armor class, so I’m just fine with the name….
…more important is the “I win button” a.k.a. traps that you can use on thieves.
FINALLY there is a thief counter-class!
I like it too but the problem is getting them to stay in it. with an immobilize or ward we can keep the bad thieves in, but we can already counter most bad thieves with the standard meditation build. Good thieves on the otherhand can easily teleport out of the trap with shadowstep, shortbow 5, shadow return and maybe even steal.
The reason why assassin’s is considered better than zerk for mesmers in most isntances is because of reflects. More power does not increase the damage of reflected projectiles, while more precision does increase their chance to critically hit. Another less important reason is because it procs on crit traits/sigils more often.
The bunker guard has a difficult time killing things because they give up any form of offence to become nearly immortal. Thats why more offensive bunkers like D/D ele replaced them.
The generational difference is likely because early MMO’s were all subscription fee games, while today the free to play model is popular (and, obviously, used in GW2). Subscription games have an active interest in everything taking you as long as possible, so their leveling is far slower.
F2P and B2P games also need to make players stick around for a long time. That way they are more likely to make cash shop purchases or get friends into the game who may make purchases as well. GW2 has a lot of things that are grindy or time-gated in order to keep people playing. It just doesn’t do that with levels. FFXIV has a subscription, but leveling is fast as well.
I think people just got tired of leveling so modern games made it faster and moved the grind to something players were more willing to accept.
Nah b2p just need to send notifications about updates and sales. P2p are the ones that people playing at least once a month.
Ive played WoW, Tera, SWTOR, Mabinogi, Vindictus, Rift, Aion, ArcheAge, Runescape, Maplestory, and countless other lesser known MMOs and GW2 was by far the friendliest.
It’s not like there are not any trolls, but for every troll I run into there are 10 nice people willing to help. In other MMOs you whenever you ask a question in global chat you will most likely get a troll answer and then more responses mocking/deceiving you, while here when I get a troll answer other players immediately intervene and point me in the right direction.
