I have a GTX 580 and a i5-3570 @ 4.5Ghz, which is the best CPU in the world for GW2 (+/-1%) for reasons that only a true gaming technician would understand. And I get about 50FPS in LA on everything completely maxed at 1920×1080 with forced 4x SSAA and 2X SGAA Alpha.
You don’t need Tri 780’s to get there. You just need a beast CPU.
I’ve been trying to get my FPS over 30 in large zergs. I have a GTX 780 and an overclocked i5 2500k @ 4.4 Ghz. Do you think I should upgrade my cpu? Perhaps I haven’t done enough overclocking (all I changed was the clock and not the voltage since I didn’t need to)
Technically, buying BL keys and buying thousands of BL chests is the faster way, but I’m sure that would cause you to go into real life debt.
Crafting is your best bet. You can craft all professions in 6 hours, giving you between 48 to 56 levels.
The solution for this is to give these skin items a merchant sell value of 5s (or more), meaning that no player could put a buy order up for them for anything less than 5.01s, which ups the cost associated with this level of advertising 100-fold. I somehow doubt people are going to put 1 million buy orders at 5.01s seeing as that would cost 50,100g to do. I guess if you had that money and really wanted to put that many buy orders up you still could, but just having that sellback value would discourage this behavior heavily.
Reasonable and easy-to-implement idea, I can get behind that.
IP blocking never works and is never encouraged for any game.

So the question is…. Is this still worth investing into at 1.25S each?
I had bought 10 stacks at 45c each, but I’m wondering if the market will just keep going up.. Seems like a pretty big risk
There is still room for it to go up a bit as we approach Tuesday. Heck, we won’t even know if anything relevant content wise is coming.
Selling your stock over the weekend is your best bet.
OK guys I think we need some clarification by OP.
What do you mean by no reward? You got no droppable loot? No champ box?
Or by no reward do you mean you got insufficient exp, karma and coin despite getting a gold medal?
I DID get loot off the body, I got the bag like always. I did NOT get the normal amount of rewards for completing the evenr, as seen in the picture. I don’t rememer how much exp and karma you usually get but it is much more than what I recieved.
Yes, that is DR. You get it after you have done the same event X number of times. Doesn’t matter if you AFK’d or not. I’m unsure if that can be reset or if you have to wait X hours.
If you’re dead-set on investing in leather it’s way better to invest in the one item that already contains heaps of leather (saving inventory space). You know, the only useful leather item which additionally contains time gated mats. Yea. Elonian squares. Way easier if investing in leather is really your thing.
That’s assuming that any future crafting recipes require the end result of elonian squares. If this were months back, it’s like suggesting everyone to invest in Gossamer Bolts since they are the end result for that mat tier.
I strongly do not recommend making the refined ascended component. At the least you should have the time-gated component (Spool/Lump). At the most you should have the time-gated component and the refined materials that would make the ascended crafting item, but do not make it.
You know Vol, while you and others were shouting gossamer I had stocked up on almost every cloth except gossamer. I had about 20k linen bolts, for example. People said I was silly.
I think platinum is going to be the next linen. Not as bad, still the highest one of the 4. Deldrimor ingots also need platinum. But the peculiar thing that makes platinum so special is that it is refined into 2 components, one for ascended weapons (dark steel ingots) and another for ascended jewelry (platinum ingots, presumably). Other than that, the ore pack does not contain a platinum node.
So yea, gathering platinum is easy. But so is silk. Anyway, personally I already have 25 stacks of silver ore from when it was 21 copper each. Same with gold ore.
Silk is not easy to gather unless you constantly do events. The most I can comfortably farm in one day is 2 stacks. And I’m sure the silk requirements were made so as to correct it’s market and price. Platinum ore doesn’t really need a correction since it has good enough value right now, so it’s possible they won’t make the requirements as mush as silk. Of course, that doesn’t mean the price will spike up come patch day – but can it sustain it for weeks?
I feel bad for the newer players just trying to level up jewel crafting that are effected by the rise in price due to pure speculation of profit.
And on the other side, I don’t feel bad for the newer players who now have more gold thanks to items having more value.
I don’t know. I find it hard to see a general rise in prices (armor, weapons, ore, wood, cloth) as a good thing.
It’s a good thing when only one or few component prices rises largely due to demand. This allows you to sell these specific items at a high while your gold still has value since other items did not have increased prices.
I’m still waiting for someone to post a video where they are in Lions Arch during peak hours and get 50-60fps and see what settings they’re using and their rig.
Wintersday introduced some horrendous frame drops in Lions Arch as well, especially at the steps between the bridge to Grand Piazza and the Traders Forum.
It’s amazing how oddly optimized this game is and how there is this stonewall of silence about it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Low-FPS-and-nVidia-employee-response
I believe this post more and more with every update and patch.
I find it hard to believe, that on max settings in GW2, I get less FPS than I get in other games on Max settings that I consider more demanding (BF4, Eve Online full fleet battle, Crysis 3, Farcry, and, and in some cases even 3Dmark firefight on extreme mode gives better results. This PC, non over clocked has a 10800-11,500 rating!
Well this is an MMO where there could be thousands of different things happening at the same time on your screen. I think overall it’s more complex than Crysis 3 and let alone Eve Online when you factor both the graphics + other animations going on.
OK guys I think we need some clarification by OP.
What do you mean by no reward? You got no droppable loot? No champ box?
Or by no reward do you mean you got insufficient exp, karma and coin despite getting a gold medal?
Platinum ore would be a bad investment.
Linen price rose to what it was because it was difficult to farm. They only come from certain maps and it was more efficient to have a character in that level range to farm.
All ores can be farmed/mined. Platinum ore, especially, can be farmed since there are two locations in the world that can have two rich plat nodes within a 30 second run from one another. That’s 40 rich platinum ore in less than 3 minutes. Per character. I have 6 lvl 80s. That’s 240 ores in less than 30 minutes.
If platinum ore initially rises to some absurd amount, such as 7s per ore, then people will go out and farm nodes, pushing supply down.
If you want to consider the next ‘linen’, then go look at leathers.
The problem with this is that there are very few commodities out there that can be traded in frequency and still provide value for both the buyer and seller.
For example, let’s use ectos. If everyone went to the Used Ecto Salesmen to buy ectos, he would have to have a large enough stock. He would have to buy them from the TP at the lowest price – through buy orders. And to make his ‘business’ worth it, he would have to sell it at a profit that is cheaper than the sell price on the market. The lack of listing fee and profit provide value for the seller, but how about finding the buyer?
Now for the buyer, what value can you get out of this? Trading for ectos is no different than placing buy orders on the TP. And there are two issues you have to deal with – risk and convenience. The Used Ecto Salesman probably won’t be available every single minute of the day, and other new entrants to this market carry risk.
However, this is an interesting concept, and one that I think can work if you have a trustworthy reputation out there as well as a sufficient amount of buyers. I have a large stock of ectos and I can experiment with my guild.
Any chance of an explanation to how would work? Would they have to forgo things for that to happen? ex) they would make more by selling their silver yet forgo using that silver to level crafting or buying lvl appropriate trinkets.
Not every new player is going to go for jewelcrafting. However, every new player is going to come across silver ore.
Those who benefit from silver ore price rising far outnumber those who don’t.
I feel bad for the newer players just trying to level up jewel crafting that are effected by the rise in price due to pure speculation of profit.
And on the other side, I don’t feel bad for the newer players who now have more gold thanks to items having more value.
I’m not sure why everyone is arguing about loot. The OP didn’t mention that he got, or didn’t get, loot. Just the event reward. Which can definitely be affected by DR. I have come across it before, doing the champ train. As soon as I changed characters, I resolved the issue. XP, Karma, and loot back up to normal.
My assumption from reading the title was that he didn’t get any reward, i.e. champ box despite the medal credit.
But looking over it, I suppose he was talking about the disparity between the xp/karma/coin reward not corresponding properly with the medal. It is DR.
Didn’t take long for this thread to turn political. Mods should close it since it’s unrelated to GW2
most gold to make is to sell to you guyz^^
this people buyd early and alot and sell now to everyone who trie to speculate with
silver, gold …… is same like gossamer and co – everyon know it and everyone think he will have checkpot and at the end only people selling to you guyz make money
when i remember corect’ (dont wanna check spidy now) than some months ago before all this startet was silver like 8-15 copper and had alot supply
price now is just hyped^^
This is the name of the game. Speculators are always driving up the price, and selling to each other. Silver ore isn’t needed much in any recipe at the moment, and yet it has gone up sixfold. And in a sense, everyone is a speculator in this game.
It’s 100% fact that silver ore/ingot will be needed in the future. Just how much, we don’t know.
Vol, “Parties also matter since the threshold counts the party as a whole.”
Not trying to troll here, but is there data to support that? I rarely am in a party. Been in many a large zerg. Maybe one in 30+ champs I will not receive the bag/box. I have tested with running in a group before and did not notice a difference.
I hear this comment a lot, and was just curious where the data is that supports it.
There is no data to support it, it’s just from experience farming over 3000 hours in this game. Anet will never release information on how DR works as that is counter intuitive for it’s purpose.
Being in a party alone won’t guarantee you loot. For one, everyone has to be doing their part with dealing DPS. For example, if I was a guardian in a party against Dwayna, I would not be using sceptre, I would be using GS so that it helps push the party up past the threshold. A lot of other players party up and they may even do more DPS than you, pushing you outside of the threshold.
For all those saying this is Diminishing Returns…
It Isn’t.
You can do Troll>Bandit>Oak>Spider>Boar>(Wasp) all day long if you want to and you will get zero DR.
You obviously dont do the Queensdale Train.
The reason the OP didnt get a Bag was because of the reasons that Lindbur and I stated.
I have personally killed that Boar over 3000 times, so i think i know more than a little about this particular subject.
this thread needs closing now.
Sorry, you’re wrong. It was diminishing returns like the other guys said. It was because i was afk at boar for a while and came back to kill it 3 times in a row, causing diminishing returns. Other guys were right.
Sorry, but you and others are wrong. You don’t get DR just cause you afk for awhile and then kill it 3 times in a row.
And this issue isn’t even about DR to begin with. It’s about tagging and damage thresholds.
Why do you think people don’t get any loot when running metaevent trains? It’s cause people don’t do enough damage for loot credit.
Stop spreading misinformation here guys.
DR is a fact and influences your medal reward.
It does NOT impact your ability to get champion loot.
There is a damage threshold that you must cross in order to get credit. This theshold is dynamic and depends on the damage threshold of others as well, so you are competing for loot against others.
For example, lets say the damage threshold requires you to do 10% of the bosses health. If you only do 9 %, you get no loot.
Parties also matter since the threshold counts the party as a whole.
I thought GW2 doesn’t even use SLI.
And AFAIK this game is so heavily cpu intensive that graphics cards up to a point don’t help.
Sorry, only died 2881 times
#tankguardian
Assuming there is a problem with silk to begin with…
Just wondering who got the most.
Type /age and /deaths in chat.
Personally:
Died 7,216 times.
Played 3241 hours on this character, 3,400 hours over all characters.
This has to be from pvp, 2 deaths an hour in PvE over 3200 hours is unimaginable. Not even Valve testers could achieve such greatness.
Depends on what he was playing. Playing world 2 of SAB or any zome/world on Tribulation mode would definitely guarantee more than 2 deaths an hour (for the time it was available anyways). JPs and WvW could also definitely accumulate deaths realatively quickly (WvW specifically).
Interesting. I wonder if that is how people can farm deaths. Set your character to auto run and jump off the edge of the map!
So how in the world do you have such high deaths? I probably have more than you, I’ll check later.
Supply: 146337
Demand: 584307this is irrelevant on this item cause its palyermade and not real demand
Those are quantities on a per unit basis. That doesn’t help us at all because it doesn’t differentiate between 1 player wanting 250 ores and 250 players wanting 1 ore each.
“One of the worst types of deception is to string people along by toying with their dreams and desires when you know for a fact that you can never deliver on what they wish for. It is unethical, and in some cases cruel. Arenanet needs to grow up and start communicating the cold facts about some of these things to the playerbase, and simply accept that people will leave the game. Stop obsessing so much over the short term, because in the long term you’ll risk suffering a much larger player loss when the truth comes out on it’s own, instead of being up front about things with players now.”
Yeaaaah making veiled threats such as this will get you no where. If you’re going to get so offended and so angry over such a miniscule and issue then you should just quit now because they are not going to change their response.
Don’t forget that if you have excess skill points, you can indirectly sell them. The most liquid and highest profitable combines will net you +50 silver per skillpoint
I have +1500 skillpoints so that nets me 750G.
Unfortunately it takes quite awhile to fill buy orders and craft, so it’s not worth it. I don’t think you will be able to convert that many skillpoints in one sitting.
It seems to be having the intended effect. Lightning Catcher selling price is sitting at double what it was a week ago right now, and at its high point it was 2.5x the previous price. Even the buy request price is higher than the previous selling price.
I’m not complaining. I’ve got one sitting in the bank, one of the few rare items I actually have in sellable form.
Might want to sell it. Bazaar will be coming back in the future, perhaps as close as this summer.
Soo I haven’t touched WvW on Sor since the 4th week of season 1. Can someone catch me up on the situation on this server?
IRON – Wrex left because of personal issues and new management decided to go back to EU?
TW – half the guild split up for some internal conflict of sorts?
FEAR – left the server recently?
RISE – Jarvan doesn’t play anymore and the guild is dead?
Hel – ?
Choo – ?
SAHP – ???
I’m sure I’m missing somemore guilds but I haven’t played WvW in such a long time.
What is a Sylvari’s favorite class to study?
Guardening class!
I guess what everyone can learn about this is that no matter what you are investing in, do your research before blindly rushing in and pressing buttons!
It’s also very possible that speculators figured that others could fall into this trap and would take advantage of the incorrect share purchase. Nefarious, but smart!
Somewhat related/unrelated to deception, looks like a bunch of investors made a big mistake and invested in the wrong company! Quite hilarious if you ask me.
http://business.financialpost.com/2014/01/15/nestor-google-inc-nest-stock/
@Vol: I have to disagree with your statement that there’s “nothing wrong with deception”. Honestly there should be no place for that. In a way it’s gaming the system.
It also impacts the summaries on the TP UI in the game (highest demand items, etc).
This specific example of 1 million+ buy orders supports a mild form a regulation. Bounds are required in every system.
Deception was probably too strong of a word. There is no lying happening here, it’s just that there is a lack of detail provided in the TP interface. This results in misinformed or impatient players losing out.
1.25 million demand… even for 250 per order thats still 5000 clicks. Well… I guess thats still a lot less clicks then magic find boosting :P
I’m pretty sure there are programs that can do hundreds/thousands of virtual clicks per second.
For us normal folk, the best alternative is to bind scroll wheel to Left Click and scroll away…
I have 5 legendaries and over +2000 gold, plus another +1000g invested.
While I will not reveal the specific ways I make my gold, I will give you some general advice. I do not play the TP through trading, although I do speculate a lot. But that alone doesn’t account for my wealth. Please note I have over +3000 hours in the game.
Alright kids, listen up.
At a minimum, you need to be running metaevent trains at reset. Most high population servers have it. The one I routinely do is on Yaks Bend. Every reset night at 6:45 we meet at Southsun to start the day with the Karka, and then jump maps for about an hour. Sometimes a 2nd train starts at karka in 1 hour 20 min. Metaevent trains are a good source of rares/ectos, and it’s good use for 1-2 hours of your gametime.
But that alone is not good enough – you can do better.
What nets me even more money is using your time wisely and prioritizing certain events over another. I’m not going to talk about specific events because Anet has a tendency to nerf whatever I talked about in the past. But some events are way more profitable than others for various reasons, such as mob spawn frequency/density or time density. For example, if I had a chance to choose between, say, Grenth and Claw of Jormag, I would choose the former. I’m confident the majority would choose the latter due to the 3 hour respawn. But all just for 1 rare? Grenth alone can give way more value per minute than Claw ever would. Picking Claw over Grenth is inefficient.
But you can even do better than that! ‘Doing’ events is not sufficient enough.
You need to know how to tag mobs and make sure your kill rate / hour is at its best. How do you do this? Well, at a minimum, you need a Guardian. No other class can compete with the guardian at tagging, the closest would be necros and engineers. If you are a warrior, scrap it. Roll a guardian. Got a thief? Scrap it. Got a ranger? Delete your character. Guardian is the only class that is able to tag so many mobs in such few time. When you are battling out zergs for loot, a smart guardian will come out on top with the best loot. Most guardians will spam Wave of Wrath but there is soooo much more to Guardian in order to maximize your potential.
You also need to party up. Partying up is not only for loot credit but boon priority. If you have a party full of guardians, you end up with perma swiftness if everyone equips ‘Retreat’.
You also need to memorize spawns. Knowing where mobs will spawn can be the difference in large zergs.
But hey, you can even do better than that! Ever heard of guesting? Most players don’t even utilize it. It’s your best friend that you can use to at least double your gold intake. Guesting exposes you to more events to farm and makes you more efficient. This may only work best if you have an SSD. If you have an HD, it can be extremely frustrating.
This doesn’t even touch upon the other gold methods, such as utilizing multiple characters for events, rich plat ore runs, dungeons or even TP flipping.
This really is a brief summary. There’s so much more that makes you a better farmer and a better guardian so that you can get lots of gold. But that’s for the day I quit.
(edited by Vol.7601)
Wow I didn’t realize this was going on, but it’s rather nefarious imho. I think the API makes this kind of stuff possible to a large degree (but it’s not the only reason).
Do you think the fanboys and koolaid drinkers would actually classify this as a form of manipulation in the GW2 market?
People who follow website trends that use the API won’t fall for this trick. It’s those who just look at the TP and act impulsively that get burned.
And I wouldn’t call it manipulation, just deception, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
It’s no different than, say, undercutting an item by a lot to create an artificial price spread.
I.e. buy/sell order for Ecto averages at 30s/34S. I may post 1 ecto at 30.1S which will cause those who do not pay attention to these prices to automatically list their ectos at 30.1S even though I only listed 1 ecto at that price when they could have listed it at 34S.
Just a thought here
Let’s say I was a nefarious, heavy market speculator in limited, rare items. I.e. Monocle, jetpack, halloween weapons, molten dyes, e.t.c.
Many players are unaware of these items simply because they are out of sight, out of mind.
But what if I wanted to advertise that these items are still out there, and that they are so rare that you should get them? And what if I could advertise these items for free?
What I would do, if I were a nefarious trader, would be to create false demand on the TP by making millions of 1c order listings so that it would push these items to the top of the TP home page, where it can be viewed by thousands of players every day.
Now I’m not sure if that is what is happening here, considering some of those items are not rare but irrelevant such as foods.
But just a thought !
You’ll probably need to sell that silver and gold before the patch hits that relates to it though. Otherwise Gossamer all over again?
It could very well be Gossamer all over again, but if you are going to sell off speculator’s highs, it should be on Sunday/Monday.
I’m unsure if I will sell then or after the patch. I don’t need the gold, either way.
Jackpot! should’ve stocked more tbh
http://i.imgur.com/KfaU5Je.png
Not really going to sell them at this price, there is still room for growth.
Don’t forget the lighthouse in LA that got destroyed!
Comparing to Game of Thrones? Very ambitious, but let’s see how Season 2 goes before assuming such things.
The big patch idea I like, hopefully some of that Quality of Life stuff will be housing related.
I’m sure if Scarlet ended up like the folks @ The Red Wedding, people in GW2 would take that over an expansion ;p
There would be cheers and I may be responsible for a Quaggan parade while singing “Ding dong the Witch is dead”.
do that if you may, but “The Dragons Will Never Forget”

We don’t know what their “two big background” projects are either. One could easily be Cantha. And Elona.
FTFY
I think you’re reading too much into it. I read,
“ArenaNet has already. The next step, “and we’re heading down that path regardless”, is to keep a big story but colour it with smaller stories that begin and end every month, the hope being to keep less invested players interested. “That would be our next step before we say, ‘Hey, we really need to change things,’” said Johanson."
as “more of the same; no expansion anytime soon.”
AFAIK, at the conclusion of Season 1, they will take an extended break (let’s say 1 month off), and then they start off Season 2 with a big, big patch (Elona Cantha pls?)
After that, they will resort to monthly content updates rather than bi-weekly.
And if they need to reassess if Living Story is working or not, it would be at that point in time.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2
Extremely good article all around that touches a lot of topics. Big one here:
“Concern: ArenaNet won’t stop banging on about the Living World update plan and so will stick with it even if it’s not working.
Not true. ArenaNet is changing it this year.
The original idea was to have four story teams making a month’s worth of content each, to be released in fortnightly bumps, and whatever mechanical features were ready at that time could be rolled in and included. ‘An online world updated more frequently than any other’ was the dream, but the reality was confusion.
“It’s very distracting to players,” observed Johanson. “It’s almost a muddled message, where we put these releases out and we want them to be excited about the story, to follow the story, and we also want them to be excited about the features that are coming with it. And either one or the other tends to be the thing that people cling onto.” And the other thing, people ignore.
“What we’re going to do this year is we’re actually separating the two of those out.”
All the big mechanical features ArenaNet is working on will be held back for a bumper update presumably in the spring/summer.
“When [Living World Season One] ends [on 4th March], we’re going to take a break for a little bit and then we’re going to do one really big feature patch that is more akin to what people see from some of our [MMO] competitors,” said Johanson, "where they bundle a lot of features together into a really big patch every now and then.
“We’re going to provide that experience and have this huge feature build that has a whole lot of gameplay-changing elements, a lot of quality of life improvements, a lot of features bundled together into one big patch. And that’ll come some time not too far after Season One completes.”
tldr: expansion in summer
