Think of it this way. Who and how many buyers are there for this specific armor?
1.) People who will wear it – very few
2.) People who will buy it to salvage – moderate
vs the # of buyers who will buy the components
1.) People who will buy it for their own personal crafting use – many
Because of this, it’s a lot often better to salvage. Furthermore, if you do not sell the armor immediately, you may have to end up relisting, wasting your original fee.
We should be blaming these bloggers more than Anet. They played the hype machine as a way to gain more subscribers, followers, and page views. Pretty disappointing.
How in the world is a CDI interview way better than an expansion?!
I think it was a mistake tying both PvE and PvP together like this. You should still get gold from PvP, but THIS is a mistake in my opinion.
Why? Yes they are separate game modes but this is the same game.
SPvP players could progress very little outside of this realm when you consider time played.
I think they are well compensated now.
…and while this may be good to the community as whole, it is not that good for the players as individuals.
- The drop rates for quality items are too low.
- Dungeon tokens become outdated due to ascended gear.
- Mastering crafting disciplines used to be something for everybody, now is hardcore zone.
- Legendaries… enough have been said about them.
The masses are driven to FS champion train or dungeon speed clears.
The TP is integral to the game and is vitally important for a modern-based MMO. Without the TP, you would have to resort to many other gold sinks in game. How would you like a 50s repair bill for each piece of armor? Fixed WP costs of 10s each? WvW queue fees?
Regarding your comment on quality items being too low, well, why do you think they are considered quality? It’s because they are rare and infrequent drops. If everyone could get 100 Charged Lodestones in an hour, do you think we would be using that item as a basis of comparison for a quality item? No. It would be worthless. And even then, if Anet were to increase drop rates by 5-fold, this would result in the desired item crafted from it losing value. Anet could then increase the amount required, but we would be going in circles.
Master crafting is called that for a reason. It could be cheaper, but I don’t mind each discipline costing at least 100G to master.
What about legendaries?
I do not recall if there was a blogpost outlining the plans for the 1st half of 2013, but there was one for the 2nd half of that year.
I’m aware that there are still some content additions outstanding from the 2013 plan (precursors, for e.g.) but it would also be nice to hear about future content additions.
As you know, this is the most depressing week of the year and winter is pretty depressing in general. What better way to get everyone excited than to talk about future content ;3
Can you tell me what program you used to get the PC stats in the top right? I’ve been looking for something less intrusive.
Oh, and grats on the 80.
Here is my justification for the price.
This is one of the very few skins in game where you can actually wear your helmpiece while showing the rest of your head features. Hair, stubble, ears, e.t.c. The other two AFAIK are the Masks and the Monocle.
So if you are the type of player who likes to prance around in LA with full armor except for an exposed head, this is something for you.
Well this is a mystery indeed. Thank you for following through on the joke
Now seriously, there could be various ways you are out +-30G
They are:
1.) You never had that much gold and you are probably misremembering
2.) You used that 30G on buy orders that were fulfilled or still pending
3.) You used that +- 30g while in a drunken stupor by moa gambling
But then I’m going to get hassled by Separatists?!
But what if I’m a Bookah? All my experiences with other Asura have been quite negative. They are in fact very racist. I wouldn’t want to be a Charr in Rata Sum, for one.
At least Lion’s Arch is multicultural and Royal Terrace people look past your race and more to your wallet.
brb getting rich, TYVM OP!
edit: btw if you can show us your “Items I’ve Sold” tab for the past 24 hours, that’d be great
It’s novelty. Don’t buy it if you don’t need it.
Probably gonna take 500 pieces to make cloaks or something for ascended back items.
There are so many potential uses for leather that Anet can do to make some market adjustments.
Cloaks is definitely one of them, even though there are issues for clipping/various character sizes
Colin hinted that the next legendaries would be backpieces, and they could include cured leather as a key component.
They could also introduce a temporary market adjustment item, just like the Mystic Forge Conduit was a few months after release.
For example, they could include a cheaper 18-slot bag which combines various tiered leather.
T5 leather is a great investment only if you have the space. If you have an extra account, the TP acts as unlimited storage and is the only feasible way to stockpile on mats. Cured Leather is the better alternative is space is limited, though I’m very cautious about it because I don’t want to get burned on Gossamer like last time.
I was a big proponent on Gossamer investing back when it was 1-2 S but I failed to sell quickly. Ended up dumping at 3-4S, which overall was a loss.
Well yes they could do this. But you’re not really talking from an unbiased perspective here.
Other than making Vol money, why should they do this?
Why? Read this:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/john-smith-on-the-state-of-the-guild-wars-2-economy/
“We’ve noticed several markets that are clearly out of sync in terms of supply and demand. It isn’t interesting or fun to have a market flooded with items that contain very little value, so we’re making adjustments to the game every day. Players can expect to see these markets even out over time.
While adjusting the supply and demand will bring markets closer to non-vendor based equilibrium, there is still the matter of massive surplus of some items. To address the surplus, we’ve created some new, limited-time Mystic Forge recipes that use these items. These recipes create boxes that give chances for gold and some cool items."
Isn’t that quote from over a year ago? I don’t doubt that at some point leather will increase, but how long will you have to hold it before it happens?
Yes, it was over a year ago, but it’s something that I think John Smith always pays attention to.
How long will I hold it? However long it takes.
Right now I have invested at least 160G. I quite frankly don’t know the opportunity cost of this, considering that I’m hoarding +1400g and not using it it in any short-term trading.
All I know is that if Anet releases an update that requires a large number of leather with high demand, the profits can be high.
If the price rises enough, I can sell all my stock (over time, of course) with a massive profit:
8 copper → 160G
20 copper → 400G
50 copper → 1KG
1 silver → 2KG
2 silver → 4KG
If I were you I’d keep on doing it. Then wait for them to get so angry at you that they send you vulgar PMs and you can then report them for harrassment.
I partake in such trains and I don’t like it when people ‘snipe’ but I’m not going to harrass or make up rules just cause I don’t like it.
If you’re talking about the event where you stand out of the circle as mobs spawn, I don’t see it as a bannable offense, but I don’t do it because it’s not worth the risk.
It’s market manipulation that works only on people that pay attention to spreadsheets and trend graphs rather than going in game and looking at the prices themselves.
If I were a nefarious trader, I would look at a popular item that has many transactions, i.e. silk when it was rising from 2S to 2.5S, and create false buy orders to give the spreadsheet traders the allure that many people are buying silk en masse for some reason. For such a large trading commodity like silk, you never get to see the low buy orders even in game so you can’t tell if it’s fake or not.
For a limited, low-demand item like silk catcher, you can easily see it.
It could work, and they could make a ton of $$$.
We all know the main reason behind bound items is to limit inflation.
However, the difference on the economy between soulbound and accountbound IMO would be minimal.
So if you were able to get an Unbind scroll that turned items from soulbound to accountbound to reapply to other characters, it would make it convenient for players with little to no effect on the economy.
Of course, players would only use this scroll on expensive items such as Legendaries or ascended, and as such the gem cost of such an item should be expensive.
We could say, buy one for 300G, or 5 for 1200G.
But I’m genuinely interested in these super secret items that allowed OP to amass 30 gold over a year!
That’s not your business. I posted this because I have a problem, not because I wanted to show somebody what I’m selling.
Well it is my business if you are asking for help as to where your missing gold is.
You stated you had 30 gold before you posted these boxes.
You then wasted listing fees on these two boxes.
And then you have 4 more recent transactions, which, depending on what they are, could have eaten away at your remaining gold after the box transactions, leaving you with 3 gold.
Case closed.
edit: lets also ignore the fact that you could have had other listings in between the now and the box transaction that wouldn’t show up on the ‘Items im selling’ tab
I sure can’t wait to ask them about DR and punishing legit players. They have avoided this question since DR was introduced in November 2012.
lol what exactly are you hiding by blocking out your sell listings?
Notes up
tldr: nothing interesting said about new content
Welcome to the rich ppl club. What will you be blowing your 2KG on? ;p
Southsun is brutal. If you don’t know how to dodge you will probably die from one mob.
I have to mist form / arcane shield / every invuln I have in my kitten nal to get to Karka queen alive..
If the Karka Queen is up the Camp Karka waypoint should be available, which is a faster way to get to her. Or you can take the safe west WP if needed.
Those karka in the Steampipe camp are pretty good at farming though. You just need a ton of reflections or else the zerg wipes lol.

Dev interview will be coming later today, perhaps past 5 pm EST, according to guild2hub
Precursors drop and are obtainable outside of the trading post?
Color me shocked. It makes me very sad to hear that “OH the droprate is fine, I’ve gotten X number of precursors and I’ve only played the game for a few months”. I’m starting to doubt that I will ever get a precursor outside of saving hundreds of gold for one. :,(
- 13k+ achievement points, including dungeon master, every jumping puzzle done at least once, participated in every living story everything…
- thousands of hours played in all areas of the game (PvE, WvW and even some PvP)
- World boss events done nearly daily
- Rares/exotics tossed in forge, every chest I’ve found raided
- Map completion done 4 times now
- 8 level 80 characters (and one level 51 character)
Precursors that have dropped for me = 0
I’ve gotten one precursor from the trading post for 19gold (all I could afford at the time) and I’m saving everything I possibly can to try and afford Leaf of Kudzu and I’m still so very far away.
Even with ~140% account magic find I’m still lucky to get a rare or two outside of the guaranteed ones from world events.
I tell this to people who always mention their hours in game and getting no precursors.
Hours in game do not matter. What you do with those hours increases you chances.
Let’s say you are logged in for 12 hours. Now assuming you can only do one of these activities for the whole day, which do you think has the highest chance to get a precursor?
-Run dungeons
-Run Metaevents
-Run Champtrains
-WvW-Farm high-density mobs
-Do JP’s
Without a doubt, farming large quantities of mobs is the best way to roll for a precursor. Why? Because each mob you kill has a roll chance for loot, which has a roll chance for a precursor (obviously, a very small one)
You could definitely make an argument that the large metaevent chests have a slightly higher drop rate for a precursor. But how often do these pop up? Even when you guest on all three servers? You don’t have a steadily stream of loot rolls. The same with WvW. You could spend 15 minutes just flipping keeps and not encountering zergs. Very rarely will you ever have a constant 1 hour battle with many lootbags dropping. Same with dungeons. Mob density in dungeons is very low.
But farming specific events gives you the highest loot rolls per hour. This is why I farm hardcore and why I have ended up with 3 precursor drops. I don’t waste my time in dungeons or overly dedicate 30 minutes of my time to do Jormag for 1 rare and a chest.
tldr: if you want to get the most chances for a precursor, farm large quantity/high density mobs.
Unfortunately a lot of people have put a lot of time and effort into simulating as closely as possible a random event in mad-made systems, particularly computer games, in order to get around the human instinct to manipulate patterns for their own benefit. And part of the reason it works is because even if we know it’s actually random, and no matter how many times we hear, or say ‘RNG is RNG’ we don’t want to believe it.
But there are problems with the RNG…
A while back, I threw 62 crafted rare staffs, plus the rares returned, and received 7 unnamed exotics back. Now it’s supposed to be random. This is what I got, in no particular order…
Dire Orrian Staff of Rage
Dire Orrian Staff of Rage
Dire Orrian Staff of Rage
Shaman’s Etched Batch of Rage
Rampager’s Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade)
Carrion Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade)
Valkyrie Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade)So, 3 identical dire orrian staves of rage, 3 pearl quarterstaffs with no upgrades, 4 staves with superior sigil of rage. This from ~20 tries. If this is considered random…it’s broken.
I’ve seen this pattern many times out in PvE. I rarely get rare drops from anything other than the world bosses, perhaps one every few weeks, unless I do the champ train, but when I do, it’s very often followed by a second rare within minutes and that second rare most often is from the same group, so both berserker or carrion, for example. I’ve had this happen well over 10 times. Once, I had had the exact same weapon, including sigil, drop twice within minutes of each other, one from the Jormag chest and one a few minutes later from some random mob near Jormag. When you can reliably predict the outcome, it’s not random.
sooo what’s the issue here? It’s all RNG. You can do a thousand more combines and you could end up with 1-2 more situations where you get the exact same outcome three times in a row.
Heck, I remember getting 7 straight exotics. Did I freak out and think I came across something other than RNG? No. I took it as a random occurence.
I think what they are getting at is that it’s not pure rng. It’s modified so that certain occurrences happen more than others.
ex) outputs of A B C (A=non upgrade, B=upgrade, C=named upgrade)
80% chance of output A
15% chance of output B
5% chance of output CWithin each output there is a sub A1 A2 A3 etc etc
80% chance of output A1 when A is rolled
15% chance of A2 when A is rolled
5% chance of A3 when A is rolledWithin each sub there is another sub A1a A1b A1c etc etc
Thus a chance at A1a is basically predicable, where as C3c is not…ie it’s programmed that certain occurrences happen moreso than others.
I think it’s always implied that there are conditions for precursor drops. RNG is a catch-all term that best explains it. It’s certainly easy to say rather than “multiple condition-based drop rates” .
Unfortunately a lot of people have put a lot of time and effort into simulating as closely as possible a random event in mad-made systems, particularly computer games, in order to get around the human instinct to manipulate patterns for their own benefit. Myth #3:There is no particular recipe that gives higher chance of a precussor from Mystic Toilet.
It was the case before, which we all know as the Godskull exploit
That some accounts are created with better luck than others
It’s all RNG.
For the longest time I had terrible luck on the forge with about 1000G wasted before I got a precursor, and then another 100G later I got another
Why not an open-world scavenger hunt? For example, lets say you want to acquire a new skill, called Jormag’s Breath which is available for all classes.
To start off the scavenger hunt, you have an NPC in your home instance that will tell you a short story or text with some background lore on this skill and any special legends around it (best if you include some GW1 lore in there for nostalgia).
After that, you are given a quest that will ask to you to visit all the Shiverpeak zones, doing various activities. For example, you may be requested to kill the Maw once, complete 5 events (that are related to Jormag-lore), kill X number of Svanir, as well as as taking down Jormag himself.
Now here are some possible concerns related to this, and some ways to alleviate it (ignoring the technical aspects since I do not know anything about them)
Issue #1 – Not readily available to new players
Since you are required to visit various diffferent zones at diffent levels, new players won’t be able to get this quest. But I don’t find this too much of a concern considering the system we have now doesn’t permit new players to obtain all skills (unless you use scrolls)
Issue #2 – Communication. How do we communicate this quest for a skill point? You can go as simple as mailing everyone in game with some lore-related communique, or create a new achievement tab for all new skill quests with instructions for which NPC to visit
Issue #3 – Not worth the time investment for a skill which may not be worth equipping.
I think you need to attach other incentives for those people who are not interested in going for the skill. They can be currency-related, for example. You could have a one-time offer of gold, karma, exp and laurels. Maybe even throw a free level scroll there!
There are some incredibly good spots to farm linen if you spend the time looking around. Yesterday I tested it out and got 150 ritual bags in 2 hours of casual play. I think it worked out to 6g/hour.
Personally for me, it’s not feasable since I can way more gold than that doing other stuff. But it’s great if you have a +lvl 50 character and want to level and get gold.
There are also other questionable linen farming techniques out there currently in use (not the recently hotfixed one). Could be borderline an exploit, but I don’t want to take a risk on it.
Anet really needs to adjust this event. For something with a 3 hour respawn timer and an event that lasts 45 minutes, it’s not rewarding. The majority of drops you get are watchwork sprockets which are worthless.
If you guys want a server that regularly does Scarlet, go to TC. They don’t complete it, but TC usually gets to the 2nd Minion phase and there are usually 3 commanders on the map. It’s also incredibly good for leveling.
World Bosses are in a good position now.
They reward 1 guaranteed rare and a chest. That’s not a lot of loot for not a lot of effort.
You start making these bosses hard, a lot of people will not do them unless rewards are significantly buffed.
I think there are things in game that should be zerged and killed mindlessly, while also having other things in game for those seeking coordination and a challenge.
Have they even released a timetable for Season 4? I want some white walkers ;_;
Interview with devs coming later today. Maybe we will get some tidbits
+1500
Back when you could farm anchorage you would get stacks of champ boxes
Huh? 15 precursors after only 1k forges? I assume you are using exotics cause that is too high.
It’s a common retail sales tactic to offer something temporary to invite purchasers who are hesistant to buy now.
Sooo what are you going to do about WvW?
Man, if we’re going to be offering suggestions that are shorted-sighted why don’t we suggest that Anet run GW2 off Cryengine or something absurd
Farm moldy bags. Do events in Orr.
Please don’t do this. You’ll ragequit eventually due to lack of actual loot.
If only I could really tell you guys how to make 8-12 g an hour farming Orr :P
In the meantime, my sig can suffice
Farm moldy bags. Do events in Orr.
Would you be happy with a promo such as “Buy 2000 gems, get X mini”, just like what we have with the Sparkles?
These minis are account bound for a reason, and they sort of show that “you were there”, so I think they have to make it a bit more difficult to acquire than a direct purchase in the store.
They could even have this type of promotion every month.
“Buy x gems and get 1 of a, b and c”
Someone is incredibly bitter >_>
This is probably all you’re going to get related to this matter:
“We do recognize that cloth prices are a bit high this is a factor of how hard it is to focus farm for leather and cloth. This is something we are looking into.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal
Which doesn’t mean a whole lot since they said the same thing about precursors and it’s been well over a year.
I guess I’ll just keep wasting storage space on scraps instead of bolts. I don’t trust things not to change based upon previous experience in GW2.
EDIT: however saying “it won’t change” in this case would provide stability instead of shock, don’t you agree? In fact, not saying anything may actually be worse…
Has there been a sudden change in the past for quantities required for refinement?
Also, I reckon the majority of the game population do not actively keep in mind a change in material requirements. People buy based on current need and prices. They don’t buy based on what can or will happen in the future involving X item.
So if Anet wants stabilility, they are best to say nothing at all. Saying something, even “it won’t change” sets a dangerous precedent for other requests for information, leading players to assume that if Anet does not acknowledge, something is coming up.
Yes there have been changes in refinement quantities. Are you being rhetorical or are you too deeply immersed in TP flipping to pay attention to crafting?
Neither. Are you biased in saving/making gold at the expense of the silk economy? Because by your tone it seems you will never take “no” for an answer for future silk changes.
