2014 is going to be an amazing year for GW2 and the community!

Chris

This was also hyped prior to the game release. I’m still waiting on that.

This game is the fastest selling MMO of all time and has had rave reviews. You have wierd expectations.

Will there be future silk changes?

Selling Eternity (or legendaries in general)

Eternity does not become soulbound on equip if you have any of the two originals soulbound.

Apparently people do buy legendaries nowadays, and it has become quite profitable to sell now that karma is extremely difficult to come by.

I reckon the players who purchase legendaries are largely gold/item sellers.

Probably gonna take 500 pieces to make cloaks or something for ascended back items.

There are so many potential uses for leather that Anet can do to make some market adjustments.

Cloaks is definitely one of them, even though there are issues for clipping/various character sizes

Colin hinted that the next legendaries would be backpieces, and they could include cured leather as a key component.

They could also introduce a temporary market adjustment item, just like the Mystic Forge Conduit was a few months after release.

For example, they could include a cheaper 18-slot bag which combines various tiered leather.

T5 leather is a great investment only if you have the space. If you have an extra account, the TP acts as unlimited storage and is the only feasible way to stockpile on mats. Cured Leather is the better alternative is space is limited, though I’m very cautious about it because I don’t want to get burned on Gossamer like last time.

I was a big proponent on Gossamer investing back when it was 1-2 S but I failed to sell quickly. Ended up dumping at 3-4S, which overall was a loss.

Well yes they could do this. But you’re not really talking from an unbiased perspective here.

Other than making Vol money, why should they do this?

Why? Read this:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/john-smith-on-the-state-of-the-guild-wars-2-economy/

“We’ve noticed several markets that are clearly out of sync in terms of supply and demand. It isn’t interesting or fun to have a market flooded with items that contain very little value, so we’re making adjustments to the game every day. Players can expect to see these markets even out over time.

While adjusting the supply and demand will bring markets closer to non-vendor based equilibrium, there is still the matter of massive surplus of some items. To address the surplus, we’ve created some new, limited-time Mystic Forge recipes that use these items. These recipes create boxes that give chances for gold and some cool items."

I dunno why any of you think a third party not at all affiliated with Anet would know anything….

The last time hype like this started up it was to reveal scarlet….and well that wasn’t better than an expansion.

Maybe you are new to MMOs or gaming in general, but the press and selected media more often than not get previews in advance of content.

And no, the last time we had this much hype over Scarlet was from GW2 itself with all the defaced messages on the website. This is 3rd party, which Anet cannot control easily.

Are those official arenanet dev tweets? Didnt seem that way…seemed like a few players getting excited for nothing.

I now cringe when an arenanet dev gets excited for features because it normally means something earthshattering in the game, and not in a good way.

They love to fuel the hype train that eventually never leaves the train station.

Read behind the names and the text. Lewis B is an editor for TenTon Hammer.

Oh. So how does he have the inside scoop on what Arenanet has in store? Seems silly that a media/fan site would know things early(way way way early possibly).

BTW, I cannot help but read your thread title in the same voice of a Hylek…..similar to when Tequatl appears…‘somethings in the waterrrrrrr’

Why is it silly? They get previews all the time. DragonSeasonCom infact had dinner with Colin last year when he travelled and they were able to get inside scoop on some things.

Is it silly that a one-person blog also gets previews of upcoming content as well? You may know her as Dulfy. Then it’s no stretch that important MMO media sites like TenTon get access.

This is the blogpost that should be discussed – not a wiki page that just includes the small subset of items that are still to be implemented (the wiki page is labeled “future” because it doesnt include anything that has been implemented yet).

True, they did not get everything in they planned to (thus the disclaimer), but its obvious they are making progress and working to make them all a reality as quickly as possible (cant think of a reason they would be delaying any of these items that doesn’t sound like a crazy conspiracy theory).

To clarify further, the blog post is not an advertisement – its the developers allowing some insight into their future plans, with the understanding that we are smart enough to know that timelines change and move. Would people rather they didnt say anything about future plans? If we want some transparency, then we have to understand that not everything can be written in stone (common sense).

It’s only a matter of time before some players start wondering why devs didn’t ‘promise’ the content they discussed in CDI’s :|

2013 is over. Did they keep their promises?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.7601

If a company advertises that a product will do something, and it does not, they are liable to the claim. Just because they didn’t say “I pinky promise this will cure your flu” doesn’t meant they aren’t held accountable for what they advertise.

First of all, they were not “advertising” anything. They were talking about what they wanted to do this year. They didn’t guaranty anything. That is your mistake for construing it as such.

Secondly, this is an artistic endeavor. They are creating content. Development and implementation of artistic creations are held to different standards and guidelines.

It’s not my day job, but I am a musician and arrange and write music for choirs and orchestras. When someone commissions me to write something original, I give them an approximate time it will be done. It isn’t always done by the time they wish they could have it. Some things take longer than you think they will.

Same thing applies here. They are creating original content. Sometimes it will take longer than they think it will. And they are dealing with many mediums here not just one like I do.

They are dealing with, artwork, music, dialog/acting, written content, and computer programming. Getting all of these things coordinated and implemented timely will never be easy or exact for them.

EDIT: Vol and Morrigan: +1 to you both.

If you take too long, or you just scrap it, you don’t get any money correct?

One issue is they already got their money through sales

The other issue is that they earn profits from gems. I know that I will not spend any more money on gems to this company, unless they turn it around.

You guys are getting caught up on the word “promise”. It boils down to the developers, imo, making a string of statements that they don’t live up to.

All I see here is Anet making the statement that

“We plan on X content releasing in the 2nd half of 2013. Of course, this is subject to change”

Edit: No srsly, now they have me curious. Meh, we’ll see what the year brings, it’s only just begun after all..

But the thing that many GW2 fail to realize is that we already get that. It’s called Living Story :P

It’s just that Living Story gives you new content every 2 weeks while an expansion you need to wait more than a year to get content all at once.

I’m thinking we get to see some new maps brought back to life from the original GW. Maybe we will get to go to the Crystal Desert after all and deal with the dragon there ;S

Big difference.

It is your fault for construing their plans oor goals and take it as a deadline that must be met, or else.

As someone mentioned above, posts like this is exactly why Anet would rather shut up and not say anything about future content. People like OP construe it as a fact and a promise when all they want to do is give the fanbase a vision of what to expect and hope for.

And Vol is most probably right, Anet will step in at some point to normalize its price with respect to other scraps.

I actually don’t see them doing that. They’ve stated that there will be some changes in the market and that they wanted to bring some value to crafting, at least to those players who have that work.

The prices for mats will settle down over time, but I suspect it’s going to be a lot longer time than most people first thought.

Of course they want to bring value to crafting, and they have. But the value of scraps right now is not proportionate. Ideally you want the price to be low → high from kitten t6. But linen scraps is only T4 and is extremely expensive compared to the rest.

You are not alone in feeling that way, and for a company that relies so much on selling vanity gem store items, they are missing a huge opportunity.

They didn’t even take advantage of holiday sales. All they added was the gifting option. They didn’t release any new skins, nor did they re-release any of the previous valuable items like unlimited mining tools.

Anet needs to start selling more armor skins in the gemstore. They can charge a lot more and make a lot more, especially with the limited number of skins in the game as is.

I just tried a transmutation splitter on another transmuted item and I was able to recover the two items without any difficulty.

So, something definitely went wrong with my Guild Sunderer and Crystal Guardian. Even if I accidently chose the wrong skin the splitter should recover BOTH items. That’s what splitters are for…

Judging by your post about what happened, you chose the Guild Sunderer skin and stats, and the Crystal Guardian sigil. So the splitter did what it was supposed to do: the skin and stats were the same item (Sunderer) and the Guardian only supplied the sigil which was not unique to the item. The Guardian itself was lost during the transformation because you chose the wrong skin and cannot be recovered.

It has to do with the way the game tracks transmuted items. The game does not “remember” what the items were before transmuting, it can only function based on the current skin and stats. The skin is a unique item, the stats are usually generic. There is little chance of getting back any particular item if the skin is transmuted away.

Either that or you mistook an upgrade extractor for a transmutation splitter, which would also have the result you posted about.

I think Anet deserves an apology now.

I am not mad at them for not writing back the next day. I am mad at their answer. Do people read?

This is what I wrote to Anet when I submitted the ticket. It clearly states that when I used the transmutation stone to get the skin of the Crystal Guardian (celestial stats) on my Guild Sunderer (zerker stats), it did not work. Transmutation Splitters are supposed to be able to split all tramsuted weapons back to their original state.

"
“I just used a Fine Transmutation stone on Crystal Guardian and Guild Sunderer to have the look of the Crystal Guardian but with the stats of the Guild Sunderer and the sigil of bloodlust that came with the Crystal guardian. I was fairly sure I selected Crystal Guardian as the skin before transmuting but somhow I ended up with the Guild Sunderer Skin and the bloodlust sigil. Since I wanted my Crystal Guardian back, I used a transmutation splitter and it only split the sigil from the Sunderer…”

Their answer:

“Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

As a general rule, we are not able to replace items, and that is true in the case of the Crystal Guardian that you have requested.

Purchases from the Gem Store are seldom refundable, and in this case we are not able to provide a refund of your purchase. We encourage you to exercise care when conducting all your gem transactions.

I have bought over 100g worth of leather on my trading account (thats +113k pieces of leather). Thankfully due to the TP storage, I don’t have any opportunity costs to worry about other than the lack of 100g to invest in other items.

The price rise on silk has made me very interested in the long-term prospects of leather.

Yes, silk rose because of it’s use in ascended crafting, while leather didn’t go up as high as expected.

But that doesn’t close the opportunity that in the future leather can be used in some very key recipes in the future. You never know what they can come up with.

They could use it in precursor crafting, legendary accessory components, mystic forge conduits or other new, desirable items. All the anet content team needs to do is go to John Smith and ask him for some suggestions. John Smith could say, “You could use globs, t6 mats and other components to add some value to craft [content]. But I think we can also use this as an opportunity to add some value to leather in the game”

I think John Smith has made it clear now that he is looking at items that are undervalued and could use a boost. The risk is very minimal while the chance at profit is very, very high.

I should make a word of warning, however, to those who may think of speculating leather. Unless you have a second account that you’re willing to bank things in the TP pick-up tab, it is not a worthy investment due to space issues.

I think investing in gems/orbs is something you could consider instead [self-disclosure, I have massive investments in those]

Jeweler 500, Legendary Trinkets & more

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

Silver and gold ore are good speculative opportunities considering the likelihood of the next legendaries being accessories (though it may be leaning towards backpieces).

Nonetheless, crafting ascended jewelery is a bit peculiar considering it is rather easy to get in game.

If you had already bought it then it probably is a great investment however I have a feeling this will end up just like gossamer, people will be stocking this for the next few months and there will be way too much in-game to make a profit off of.

Also everyone, keep in mind there is a way to earn every ascended item through both in-game means + crafting, and not trinkets. If anything I think they will add Ascended craftable trinkets before they even touch on Legendary Trinkets.

I don’t think people stocking up on an item is the real issue. The problem with gossamer was that it turned out it had very limited use in ascended armor, and people began to dump it since the demand could not keep up.

Then you look at something like silk scrap, which for the longest time people have been throwing at vendors. People could have stocked up on that but the reason why it’s still up is because there is way more demand than supply.

Of course, there will be risk with silver/gold/platinum ore. We will never know how much of a demand there will be for it once ascended JC comes out.

I guess the best way to mitigate risk is to take advantage of late speculators and sell before the release.
