What do I need to know about it? What are some common recipes people make? I’m mostly a WvW’er so how does it help in that arena?
As a WvW’er, you may have a lot of skillpoints so you may suggest building superior siege prints, or you can indirectly sell your skillpoints for 30-50s each throuhg promotion.
Two problems:
-if i were a botter/hacker, I would create my own guild and exploit on my own private server
-each overflow is a separate server for that map, and it would increase bandwidth and server resources
I just got the dodge achievement for the 5th stage of the Marionette fight, and it was extremely simple by following this strategy:
Upon zoning in, all stack directly in front of the regulator. The reason being that the Marionette’s AoE attacks do not hit there. Also, this makes the boss adds (which split multiple times from the first champ) bunch up and very easy to take out.
I was amazed how fast we destroyed the champ and adds by doing this – with no fear of missing out on the dodge achievement (ofc all other platforms were successful).
Hope this helps others!
Well this is a strategy for just one boss. The other champs you may have a harder time to do this, such as the regulator that blocks frontal attacks and the one that launches bombs.
3rd best for me. 1st is Bazaar and 2nd is the first SAB release.
I have over 23 stacks of ectos bought at 29s.30c a week back. Left me with very little gold on hand and now I have to sell them all. Please ectos, go back up ;(
Please point me in the direction where it states that these (or similar) items are exclusive to a one time limited run – and shall never be issued again?
Anything that is sold in the shop can be brought back at any time, at their discretion.
Don’t believe me? Try taking a few moment to read the Legal Documentation link at the bottom of this page.
We all agreed to this before we even logged in the first time the game was played.Anet (more specifically, NCSoft) has done nothing wrong.
Not that I disagree with you, but I’d love for you to point out the specific clause that would say that. I highly doubt a legal document would contain such a clause.
It is in the User Agreement. 4.d.i. It is in relation to gems and items available only through the purchase of gems.
Thank you – I’m incredibly surprised why they would have to include such a clause. It’s not like people can sue Anet for removing a virtual item? ;/
I agree with you. I’m disappointed that the achievement is tied to winning the event rather than just focusing on that particular champion fight then and there. It also doesn’t help that everytime you fail, you will have to wait for the next respawn.
So at a minimum (without jumping lanes), you need to dedicate 10 hours to marinette to get all 5 platform achievements. And that doesnt include the fact that you may get hit, or your map may fail, or even that you don’t get the right champion. So you’re more likely going to have to dedicate +50 hours to it.
And all this for temporary content? Not going to happen Anet.
Hey I’m just as disappointed/mad as OP but I don’t think this is a wrong move for the economy.
For speculators such as I, it hurts since our investments have lost value, but our losses have no effect on the economy.
In fact, gem store items are almost always good considering the gold sink it acts as.
Well the guild mission would have to violate lore rules. All guild missions are open world. You would have to come up with a system to explain why Scarlet’s UFO & weapon are still there.
It’s better suited for a fractal. Just make the waves easier and convert the champs to buffed vets/elites.
-snip-
Then if this player is a casual and can only play 1-2 hours, should Anet
1.) design all content only for casual players who can only play 1-2 hours?
2.) design content both for casual players and hardcore players?
I’m for the second. But I don’t even think that’s the issue. If a casual player who can only play 1-2 hours complains about content like Teq/Wurm, maybe they need to readjust their expectations. There are very few casual players here who did that. Instead, they expect everything to revolve around them. And they don’t even play long enough to take advantage of said content.
I liken it to casual players complaining about failing to get a legendary in a month. Legendaries were not designed for you, so don’t complain about it.
The elitism is strong in this boss event.
The simple fact that you have to be invited to the correct overflow server is prooof enough. And then there’s the elitists in this thread saying it’s ok if a content is only doable by 10% of the players. There should absolutely be content that only 10 percent of the players can do.
Then ANeT is ignoring 90% of it’s customer base. Not a very good business model. If ANeT creates content it should be doable by and for all. Hard content is great, but it shouldn’t require hard-capping the zone population. I believe our server finally took down Teq just last weekend. It took that long and a little help to complete it. The event otherwise remains pointless and unused 99% of the time. That means the content that was created was a waste of ANeT effort. A little less ridiculous champ scaling and less reliance on huge numbers would’ve made the Teq encounter a more enduring event. A higher chance of success by players would have kept them coming back. But the failure rate is just too high and it takes too much pre-coordination.
Unfortunately the wurm event will fall even more quickly into this category. Players will guest to other servers that will eventually succeed and never do it on their own server ever again. Our server is still trying to do it, but I believe interest will soon fall sharply. The marionette event is the only new content that is enjoyable so far. People actually enjoy it, even if we fail. Too bad it will go away all too soon.
They are not ignoring you. It’s your fault and yours alone for not taking the initiative to attempt or complete this content. If you are not good enough, then you do not deserve the rewards.
Happens with Queens Jubilee, happens with Teq, Mari and wurm.
It’s possible for everyone to complete this content. But in the end, only a minority actually do it because they are coordinated and committed to doing it.
I always love how some people ignore the content of the post and go directly at the person instead. Who said “I” haven’t taken the initiative? Didn’t I say my server was still trying to accomplish the wurm event? And wasn’t what I was saying merely an opinion based on observations which most objective folks know to be true?
The Queen’s Jubilee didn’t require 80+ or a maxed out zone to do, BTW.
Oh I’m not ignoring the content at all. I just think you are writing from an incredibly biased and narrow mindset.
I understand that you are bitter that it took you that long to take down Teq, but that is not the fault of Anet, as I said. Yesterday we took down teq with 6 minutes to spare. We had a full server, not hard capped. We had a bunch of players who understood the fight and simple adjusted strategies due to the fire ele nerf. Overall we just lost 1 minute on the timer.
Every single server out there has the capability of defeating Teq. It’s just no one wants to take the initiative to organize such an undertaking. The server I’m originally from has enough players to run two world trains at reset and reach hardcap. Yet they don’t bother doing Teq. That’s not Anet’s fault. That’s the player’s fault. They could do the content if they wanted to, but they’re lazy or unwilling. Yaks Bend even took down teq at reset at least once, we I know they have the capability of doing it.

To be fair, this game is designed for casuals in nearly every conceivable way. That this content is unfriendly to casuals because, among other things, it requires them to spend hours waiting for a main server or designated overflow is, in my opinion, a flawed design particularly when the end rewards are likely to be less than commensurate.
What I don’t understand are people like you who come here and talk about players being “good” in PvE. PvE in this game is mindlessly easy. Once someone figures out the best mechanic to take out the Wurm, defeating it will become perfunctory provided players are willing to invest the time. If by “Good” you mean a baseline number of players with working synaptic responses all participating in the event, then yes, I suppose “Good” players are indeed a prerequisite.
But to be fair to the person above you that you’re trying to put down, anyone bragging about being “good” in PvE here is essentially applauding himself for having a brain capable of controlling his fingers.
This game wasn’t designed for casuals. It’s designed for everybody. There is content for casuals and there is content for hardcore players. So you must understand my lack of empathy when these casual players suddenly complain about content made for hardcore players, as though they are being neglected. That is not the case.
By good I mean having the ability to coordinate and execute. Coordination is related to what you said above. Understanding what skills to use, when to use it, and the strategy. Anyone can do that. But what separates knowledgeable elite players from knowledgeable bad players is execution. That can include fast reaction time and spatial awareness.
Yes, PvE is largely easy in this game. But content like Liadri is the epitome of player skill and is an example of coordination and execution. Content like wurm and teq can be argued to be more difficult considering the coordination involves much more than yourself.
Blobing 2 heads, while the 3rd is close to a 100% you call taking the lead?
^
Yeah any of the other servers who have reached this point can kill 2 heads I think. It’s just that the other servers have equally split their forces amongst 3 to kill them all at once.
You have to wonder how Desolation and BG consistently get to the 2nd phase though. Is it possible both servers have just the right number of players on the map to prevent the scaling bug?
You know, for someone who can afford the resources and wages to construct not only a giant walking robot, but a giant flying UFO (as well as the thousands of aetherblade millions that spawned and most certainly are mercenaries), I would have thought Scarlet would get some more lavish quarters to live in.
I like the idea but I wager it’s difficult to implement.
This would require re-animation of ALL skills in the game. That would take several months and take valuable art resources from other facets of the game.

If you make this game too dark, it will be impossible to move around. Large portions of the map will be pitch black due to the lack of unnatural light. All you would see is the towns and camps. And it most certainly would be strainful for the eyes.
They already said that the wurm was a side-effect to the pulsing thingamajigs.
I don’t think Anet would lie to us – at least lore-wise
I haven’t tried the 2nd phase yet – so it’s highly suggested people use ranged weapons? I can see how some classes can have a disadvantage (guardian)
Why was Crimson so high? Didn’t have enough ppl zerging that wurm?
edit: nvm read chat.
Tough luck. Crashes happen.

It hasn’t even been a week. Give it time.
Please FS or Desolation, kill it. It’ll make the TTS claims that they killed wurm more hilarious.
We have gotten it to the head phase twice. There are two phases: wurm phase and head phase. We have killed wurms twice TECHNICALLY. We have not killed the heads finishing off the fight yet.
We were the first to see the head phase. (dev confirmed) Deso was the first to kill a head.
Of course, you know that now.
But the other thread in this section stated “TTS killed the great wurm” but claimed that because it was a bug, they didn’t get their kill. Again, now you already know that this was phase 1 of 2 but it’s still an embarrassment compared to prematurely celebrating.
It’s because people see a champ and think “ZEEEEERGGGG!!”
When it actuality you need to look at the champ and recognize it’s mechanics. It’s in the description below the nameplate.
So when you see five players hitting a champ from the front (when it can only be damaged from the back), or when you see a player kiting a champ away from mines, you know you have baddies.
Are flame dyes back in the store or something?
yup, all flame frost. Many ppl who held them are PO’d. Glacial holders especially.
Please FS or Desolation, kill it. It’ll make the TTS claims that they killed wurm more hilarious.
I just literally lost 300g worth in investments because anet decided to put flame and frost dyes back on the market for 3 whole days – in turn putting a kitten ton of supply back in the TP. Now I will have to wait another half a year in hopes of simply making my money back, let alone any profit at all.
Anet really has something against me, I swear. That’s fine though, after this post I’m not spending a second more on these forums or suggesting anything to them – that includes ideas (such as the signet of capture) that have been put forward in the CDI thread. Anet won’t be getting anything anymore from me that will benefit GW2 from now on. Anet, you’ve completely ruined my day and most likely my whole year by putting in the flame and frost ‘limited (more like limited only every few MONTHS) time only’ dyes back in. Goodbye forums.
Yup, I invested about 160g in the flame dye. I don’t know what price it is now, but guess I’ll just use it for my character since it’s now a sunk cost. Thankfully, I can make that back in 2 days.
In your own words “contains one random flame themed armour dye” now tell me how grey dye is flame themed. I didn’t pay for an unidentified dye, I paid for a flame themed dye.
dye is reasonable since it’s in the palette of anything flame-related.
Maybe if you got a purple or pink dye, I can understand.
But when you think of fire, you think of everything from the shade of bright yellow to dark black. Grey falls in that.

Last year I remember a player named Skady Valda from SoR who had something like 8 legendaries. I don’t know how much gold he has, however. He’s the richest one I know.
Pretty sure they are both F2P. For a little while now if I remember correctly.
You don’t remember correctly.
GW2 have never been F2P.There really is no difference between F2P and B2P, either way you get looped into the RL cash treadmill these days.
Well in the circumstances of this post, it is extremely relevant.
The barrier to entry in a F2P is non-existent. If you want to play it, you can download it for free.
If you want to play GW2, you have to buy it first.
Hmm..according to Steam, I don’t even play GW2 at all.
Now how did that 1.9k hours happen? Weird.
I think you have to open the game through Steam.
And if it absolutely must be temporary, at least make it a fractal. It won’t be as epic but it will tell the story.
Just have 5 players in the 5 lanes (with accompanying NPCs) and instead of having a champ to solo at the 2nd phase, make them vets.
I’m so happy I have the Royal Terrance Pass right now. Dragons! Stay away from Divinity’s Reach. We (humans) have suffered enough!
And then that’s a perfect time to put it back on sale :P
“Sick of the burnt corpses, charred buildings and homeless children in Lion’s Arch? Buy a Royal Terrace pass today to get away from it all!
Good to know, thanks.
Still amazing how you guys did it so far with few people. On the map it looked like you guys had under 100 people.
I tried the method that TTS is using but for both amber and crimson, our DPS was terrible! It seems like it’s poorly scaled up to a point. We hardcapped the overflow and it didn’t help.
I watched the stream from merfoga or whatever you call his name, and it seemed like you guys didn’t even have a full overflow.
Cobalt however seemed easy to DPS down.
DPS are is bad because you cant target boss when you stack on boss so do mobs which is why the dps is so low. A lot of husks spawn cause of the way we do phase 1 scales it up which makes the latter burn phases harder. Cobolt we can and do kill all mobs
Hmm, I guess that makes sense on a boss like Crimson.
So for each boss, you must have the wurm targetted to guarantee hits? You can’t just stack on him and hope for the best?

Is so strange that swtor is even in the list and I’m fact is so close to gw2! That’s worrying
Lets conveniently ignore that one is F2P and another is B2P
a bot placed 2.7 million buy orders (probably at 1c = it cost them 270g) which put it on the ‘highly demanded’ list = first thing everyone sees when going to the TP, so everyone was reminded about the item and just HAD to have it, so now the price is higher.
I really wish these botters would tell me before they do this to items so I can make strategic investments :P
I’m sure what’s annoying for anet is that even if they ban the account that made the buy orders, that won’t necessarily be the account that made thousands of gold off the price increase
Technically there isn’t anything wrong with those false buy orders.
Pointless considering it’s only tracked through Raptr.
Even if she’s being controlled, it’d be really nice if she became some champion to this new dragon and had to be destroyed, much like how we destroy the Shatterer or Tequatl. That would be a really nice final transformation for her to undergo.
Well let’s just hope that if she turns out to be the champion, we get to kill her in this season and not have to wait out next season…and have her end up being a recurring boss fight ;/
I noticed that sometimes the champion maintains agro on the NPC that fights with you. So It’s entirely possible that it got stuck in that position. Next time, spam in say chat for everyone to use their CC’s – and continue to do it so that you burn through Defiant.
tldr: send grumble cakes to Danicia
How do you access this instance?
Participate in either the marionette (or even the wurm I think) and it will update your personal story. Click on it and it will show you the location. When you get inside, talk to the herald, and once it’s finished explaining, the character can be interacted with.
I still say that the Pale Tree is going to snap like a toothpick when Mordremoth kicks it over.
Mmm…maybe Mordremoth will awaken in that zone and then end up travelling all the way to LA, leaving behind it some entrails (kind of like Kralk and the branded ground you see on the map), and then proceed to destroy LA and quickly gtfo.
And then season 2 starts, and we will have to fight it’s champion.
I agree, the personal character VA is underwhelming. However, if you want a more emotional connection with the story, I suggest you try out the Order of Whisperers storyline.

That’s not what ‘Guild Wars’ means in the game. Lrn2lore.
Ok, that’s fine. However it doesn’t affect the fact that a game titled guild wars doesn’t have any guild wars. So my question again is;
Would you like the option for guild fights/tournaments?
We already have that, it’s called GvG
