Competitive thief here (pvp in general and alot of Tourneys) I support the OP 100%

Also agree that the Quickness boon should be toon down in speed percentage or remove the utilities that grant them from the game, let it just be a proc from traits/runes/sigils instead of a on demand boon.

for example a Ranger has access to quickness 3 times withing 1 min… due to gaining it every time he changes pets + a utility skill. put that together with rapid fire that hits 10 times for over 1k each. Not saying that rapid fire is OP but quickness definitely is in general for all professions.

thieves have no ability cooldown for a reason, to allow hight bust dmg (which were not doing that well atm and after the next nerf even less) what you are suggesting is that after a thief bursts he is useless for a longer period of time than it currently is!

not to mention that the classes you mentioned from SWTOR had ability cooldowns and did not have weapon swamp. as i said before these games are both MMO’s but are NOTHING alike you cant compare them the way you are.

this is not SWTOR, ppl stopped playing it for a reason. this is Guild Wars 2 a completely different game with different objectives, different play style, different mechanics, was PvE based and balanced, GW2 PvP based and balanced.

you can always go back to SWTOR it is about to be FT2.

What idd really like to see is stealth fixed in terms of pets/clones following thieves and hitting them wile stealthed and channeled abilities also homing the thief though stealth…
Just recently i stealth before the first projectile hit me but the cast had already stated and i took almost the full dmg from a Rapid Fire, although i dodged some of the projectiles wile in stealth i still took 7k dmg. this was in the jumping puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds wile the ranger was above me.

the ideal would be for when the “caster” loses target (due to stealth) the animation of the spell/skill would continue towards were the caster is facing (just like when casting out of combat with no target). if these target happens to be in front on him then he deserves to take the dmg, if he moves/dodges away from the channeled animation. this animation should NOT follow him.

Just my 2 crents, and i believe thieves are mostly fine besides that.

QQ backstab, instead learn to play.

I bet, once you learn how to counter a bs thief it becomes pretty easy to kill them time after time.

The thief community will kill me for giving up the SECRET to counter BS thieves (i do not play backstab and very rarely die to one)

DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK AT HIM!

he will hit you for HALF the backstab dmg! imagine that….

I support the OP, many professions are getting unnecessary nerfs because of it, if it is removed from the game balance will be achieved much more easily…

Give the whiners the same treatment, start collecting screenshots of Eles criting for 7k, warriors criting for 12k+ rangers for 7k+ and start posting them here.

In a couple of weeks every one and they’re dog will be nerfed and every one will be happy!

It’s proven that what gets the nerf bat swinging. Is whinning + screenshots so start colecting and postig.

There are a lot of professions out there that have higher bursts than thieves and also higher survivability, if they are to nerf thieves AGAIN thous profession should get the same treatment.

I do like under water combat but caprica is just badly designed… The map is way to small for 8v8 and the capture points are too close to eachoter…

I agree on the playing a thief, i disagree on fighting thieves, i play one and love to fight others, is there a better way to see who the better thief is?

I agree on the ranger statement, i do not play one but believe they need some love from the devs, specially after the dps nerf due to ANIMATION bug…. -_-’ really?!

well if you read the post it’s not about wow (the game) but about community behavior and yes its basically the same. ppl what to be able to kill every thing with no effort what so ever and at the same time never die…

Is ppl what to be able to kill every class they need PRACTICE and learn the opponents abilities and main rotations based on the weapons they are holding, then they need to learn how to counter them with they’re one abilities and that also takes practice and a lot of time. Most ppl don’t want to do that they just wanna faceroll they’re keyboards and kill the world, if they cant do that, if some one has the nerve to outsmart/outplay them and OMG kill them then they rush to this forum and whine… its a lot easier to whine begging for nerfs / buffs that to L2P.

30/30/0/0/10 full zerkers + sharpening stones + food + bloodlust stacked to 25 (from my shortbow) + 5% damage and 5% crit chance on my daggers = 3,742 ATK, 71% chance to crit + 104% crit damage.

awesome! but if some one so much as releases a smelly one your way, you are dead.

I do not need to insta kill /insta die kind of specs, I like to outlast them, i have moderate dmg but high survivability

This thread should be stickied and locked at the top of the forums. Specifically to let all other players who glance at the thief forums see that most thief players don’t understand how powerful stealth is against human beings.

Mobs re-aquire and know exactly where you are in stealth. They just stop hitting you until its over. Stealth does nothing to confuse mobs. To people, on the other hand, it’s very powerful.

The only reason this thread exists is because thief players don’t understand that. And they probably never will. They’ll just continue to whine as the balance patches roll in. As they have been ever since release.

If you guys want to flame me for pointing out facts, go ahead. I’m happily awaiting the next patch.

Yeah man, thieves never face other thieves nor Mesmers… we have no idea what stealth can to to human beings, specially because we (thieves) are all cyborgs.

the difference is we KNOW how it works and how to counter it, other players don’t wanna learn so they whine.

Except, Clay gets to go invisible every 3 seconds at random points during the fight.

Wait….what?

That would be OP idd, unless Tyson can summon a horde of minions or some clones of himself that follow Clay though stealth Hitting him constantly, not to mention aoe’s and channeled abilities.

i run with 0/25/30/15/0, dont do much condition dmg not got a huge burst but i can outlast most opponents i encounter, even 2v1. with D/D + SB and unlike the OP i love chalenges and engage on any profession specialy the toughest ones :P

Considering you only need to make a level 2 character for PvP, might as well just so people doesn’t grow too attached to one character.

excuse me but ppl play however they want with whichever profession they want and not you nor anyone has the right to FORCE them to play a different profession.

It’s not my case i pvp with 3 different professions but i obviously have a favorite one that i prefer to take to payed tournaments.

As you very well know, you can destroy thieves just as fast, imo they are both very poweful and both have suvivability although though diferent ways.
Thief evades, dodges and stealthes
Warrior has Toughness, big HP pool, can block and can also dodge.

its just a mater of who opens on who and weather the utilities are on CD or not i believe…

That was probably changed recently, previously it would put in the full CD, I dont remember seeing this change on any patch notes but if true, with Boutifull Thief we can have permanent Swiftness fury and Might will not in combat. That is SO OP….

On early release, traits like Bountiful Thief would grant the buffs even if you didn’t had a target, we could get 10 seconds of Might Swiftness and Fury just by pressing F1.

This was fixed and now the buffs are only granted if you actually land the steal. if it is dodged or out of range or you don’t have a target you get no boons.

Hidden Thief (imo) should work the same way but i found that if I press F1 with no target i still get the 2sec (3 if traited) of stealth from Hidden Thief.

Its not a major bug nor it OP but still it should be fixed i guess…

Not sure but when I activate it the boon is still there and only wares off after the 5th strike. Didn’t look at my stats though.

depends on you personal preference in wvwvw i use mainly SB and switch to D/D for some 1v1 unless its a melee thief, warrior or guardian were SB is a huge advantage. I may switch to D/D to finish them when they’re HP is low though

With my warrior i can nuke down ppl in 2 seconds and i hear very little compleint about it and on my Engi, rarely a thief can kill me by itself you must be doing something wrong.

As for eles, the glass canon ones are wet paper, not just for thieves, warriors, rangers and mesmers for example can easily destroy them.

I guess you need to spec and gear a little smarter, cuz your obviously doing it wrong.

I can’t confirm this and to me it doesn’t feel that way but if there was a nerf to the thief profession not stated it the patch notes it wouldn’t surprise me.

care to elaborate? since you show such knowledge about the thieves profession and its OP abilities, which are still op, how OP are they?

Thieves no longer have burst unlike other professions, and its survivability is based on mobility and fleeing. what else is there to nerf? stealth? so that there is no suvivability left and make backstab even harder to land? is that what you want?

Just whine a bit more and you might just get that but then every thief and its dog will be playing the heavy armor class that we do not dare to speak of (since all devs play it).

also thieves playing with macros are noobs since thieves are all about timing and opportunity, each skill/ability has its own time to be used, if macroed, at most of the times they will be wasting skills (initiative) / abilities that would be better used in a different situation.

Does anyone have any idea what this means?!

Ranger don’t have overpowered attacking skills like thief or warrior
ranger has not really strong defensive skills like guardian.
Ranger cannot move quickly or run away in stealth.
only small funny plus – shooting radius 1500? )
Why funny? because it is an advantage that can be overcome
with any other class in a few moments.
This class plays a supporting role and will remain so?
my question is – how to play and win with Ranger in spvp?

Ask Vinhas (Bloodbath.0000 dont know the numbers), he destroy in pvp and can easily win a 2v1. don’t ask me how, i never played one but he plays on my team and kitten he is good!

  • Balance. Really, balance is pretty good. We’re very observant of the meta, we read the forums, and we’re playing the game with you. We don’t want to make knee-jerk balance decisions. And if did whatever the community wanted, what would happen to balance? How many threads are basically: “NERF X OMG!!” “Learn to play , X is fine” “Omg no, we can’t beat X at all!” “Just saying, none of the people I know even run X anymore” “Hey you guys forget X, let’s buff Y!”….then this just repeats over and over. We can’t just do exactly what players ask for in relation to balance, because different players at various skill levels view balance differently. So what we do is balance community feedback with gameplay results. We don’t want to play whack-a-mole with balance, so we don’t just nerf/buff everything as soon as someone posts about it. It would ruin the game if we did. We try to be patient, see if the meta fixes itself (because a lot of times, once you learn how to deal with something, you realize it may not be as imba as you first thought), and then make long-lasting balance changes. We don’t want to nerf X, then realize no one uses it, and buff it again, then have to nerf it again, etc. etc.

you nerfed pistol whip a couple of weeks ago and the Sword / Pistol set was completely abandoned, so you just buffed it again today. Point taken.

Warriors (the devs profession) on the other hand get buffed every time. Dev’s have admired in this forum that Warrior’s can do this but are “waiting” to apply the fix that is already done humm…

also 16k Hundred Blades has been op since beta has seen no “adjustments” because it is dodgable just like Pistol Whip but PW got nerfed down to having the same dps as auto-attack humm….

Nice balancing politic you have!

and for the finale, Mesmer Elite MOA 10 seconds of unbreakable polymorph making the target hopeless for (again) 10 seconds unbreakable! Thief elite Basilisk venom 1,5 sec of petrification breakable!… nuf said.

I have heard the pro player song for ages, as i have been playing on line since 1998 and jot just mmo’s. Pros and they’re logical and stilish way to whine like proper man instead of babies (still whine).

Put your logics in to practice and provide enough info to get you profession buffed to par instead of whining about other classes that you probably haven’t even played.

If you what thieves nerfed so bad, and state that thieves have no right to have the abilities they contently have, I invite you to enlighten us all (and the game dev team) with you ancient knowledge and show us how the thief should be.

OK, can some one please un-stick this thread now? thieves have been balanced and no longer can burst ppl down. for me as a thief this is a good thing, imo backstab was abusive. I approve of the changes and cant wait to see whats the next thing ppl will whine about, prolly Death Blossom LoL you can remove it if you like i don’t care just give me anything with an evade on it and i’m happy.

Can we now have a sticky on Mesmers and Warriors pls!?

Warriors can dish out ridiculous amounts of dmg in few seconds (unlike thieves) and have lot more HP and Toughness.

Mesmers besides the high burst also have the ability to put someone out of combat for 10 long seconds (like thieves use to do for 1 sec but not anymore) and good luck on finding the right one to hit on.
