dream on man. the problem is wen you wake up and find that the shi kitten inking and you are in it.
Just like all of you, i entered the game only to find that my professions is literally unplayable in hot-joins and tournaments. since i hate PvE and WvWvW is also broken (what a surprise) i decided to log on my ele and entered the mists.
wen I got there… eles, eles, eles, everywhere eles…
… its you guys aren’t you?!
yah but did someone from a-net came forward to let us know if they are doing anything about it? no! so if you are feeling ignored, join the club.
it also nerfs healing since it take more time between stealthed meaning Shadow Rejuvenation will be healing us less frequently.
Also i noticed that before the patch after CnD+BS i would wait 1 full outo attack rotation before using CnD again, now its non less then 2 rotation before CnD can be effectively used that’s double the time not just 1 sec. you don’t believe me? test it yourselves on a golem in the mists.
why would they do that? the orders are to NERF NERF NERF
the buffs are only for the weaker professions like eles…
Suck it up thieves.
Look how kittenty the rangers came out.
True, true…
still i don’t see a reason to take other professions down that painful road… and in 6 month time bring them back up as they did with rangers, during those 6 month many ppl will quit or join the Ele ranks to be able to kill and not be killed in tournaments…
I would love to know HOW do A-net tests these changes internally and in all aspects of the game.
this way it would be easier for everybody to understand they’re reasons for these changes.
Yes Eles are Totally UP please buff them!
Welcome to the world of Elementalist…
you mean we thieves can now tank 3 ppl at the same time and kill them one my one wile healing ourselves to full health countless times? Can we move as fast as an ele from one corner of the map to another? are you saying that thieves now have perma swiftness?
sweet! that’s awesome i cant wait to reinstall the game!
I’m still at work, as any one tested traps? are they working now? (i know no one uses them but still it would be good if something worked on this profession)
You still play a thief?! lol
Our only usable under water Elite ( which even has a casttime LOL ) gets nerfed… GG
I really would love to take another non-elite skill in that slot !!!
are you kidding?! i would take ANY other non-elite utility in that wasted slot…
All the mobility skills you could ever need, are already in the game:
Shortbow – already has Disabling Shot and Infiltrator’s Arrow
Sword – already has Infiltrator’s Strike/Shadow Return
Sword/Dagger – already has Flanking Strike
Dagger/Pistol – already has Shadow Shot
Dagger/Dagger – already has Death Blossom
Pistol/Dagger – already has Shadow Strike
Harpoon Gun – already has Escape and Ink Shot
Spear – already has Flanking Strike, Tow Line, and Shadow AssaultNext to that you have:
Withdraw
Shadowstep/Shadow Return
Infiltrator’s Signet
Signet of Agility (refill endurance)
Shadow Trap
Roll for Initiative
and finally StealSo what exactly is it that you think you’re missing?
Rofl ahahahaha dude! tks man! nice joke! hahaha
it’s just what i needed to cheer me up after reading all the buffs to every other profession, and Bunkers in general.
Quickness should have been nerfed a LONG TIME AGO, before many professions got they’re dmg nerfed because of it…
The SAD thing is these professions that got nerfs because og Quickness didn’t get they’re abilities back as they were…
O miss most of the members of Crimson Imperium Reborn [CIR]
The guild had over 100 players and only 3 still long in representing other guilds and on different servers. I’m one of those 3…
Can we reach the 500 participants? (actually, do we have so much people pvping?)
Possibly yes, if you sum up all the NA and EU pvpers which is very few ppl anyway.
Imo there should be more active pvp players in EU than in NA but still if it is about 500 its way to low. This means that most of the PvP comunity has jumped ship.
The great majority of my friends are playing LoL, Dota and PS2 atm, the sad thing is that from all of us I’m the only one left playing GW2 just because I don’t like Dota nor LoL… I do play PS2 with them though…
(btw this next weekend is Neverwinter Beta Weekend and i got a key on my mail yesterday xD )
i went there about 5-7 times, cant really remember wen the last time was…
I have died so many times because of this trait that….
I’m on my 3rd keyboard since game came out, new record!
I like the fact that there is a SoTG, but it doesn’t seem necessary if PTR notes are made available to the public. I’m glad the devs take the time to participate, but as a moderator, Grouch should be more proactive in facilitating the questions instead of letting the devs start the discussion. Grouch should also be better prepared with questions derived from the forums. Formulating questions for the most pressing issues give the devs direction. Just changing topics and telling the devs to discuss what they want to discuss isn’t going to cut it. The ele discussion was a good example of bad moderation. I’m glad that Xeph brought up some of the big issues with them and keeping the devs from avoiding the topic of ele imbalance, but that should be Grouch’s responsibility as the moderator. How the devs feel about the professions isn’t how we feel and the majority of the issues are being swept under the rug.
Grouch: “Well I kinda wanna jump subjects here…we want a little road map of where the professions are heading…so we’ll start with the elementalist….”
pause…
Karl: “Start off with the elementalist….right now uh…they only have one specific build…uh…”
I want a meaningful discussion on what the pvp community feels about eles, not what the devs feel. Grouch should have asked them directly about their burst, healing, and mobility with examples given from Xeph and Nero, and then see what the devs have to say about said issue. The same goes for all professions. It’s not hard to skim the forums and see what the main problems are with each class are just by looking at the post titles.
dude… dev’s cant come to the forums… they have said it many times! if they take some of theyre pressious time to com and read what were posting then they will be wating pressious time that could be spent on fixing what they imagin that needs fixing, playing table tennis and go to Facebook!
How dare you ask such thing from the devs?! why would they have to listen to us mere players? who cares about our feedback? they KNOW exactly what needs to be done and by the SotG video you could imediatly tell that they were fully knowledgeable about the game, they knew exactly what they were talking about, were confident and had no doubts nor confusions. mi right?
Channeled abilities always followed though stealth, also pets, clones, phantoms also follow the thief though stealth.
Stealth obviously needs more nerfs i guess…
This issue has been around since beta and A-net never mention 1 word about it and we have made dozens of threads about it. will they ever fix this?!
“these are not the droids you are looking fore” /wave
(edited by Volrath.1473)
lets just eliminate stealth and give thieves semi-transparency so that every one (else) is happy! this way thief will have his semi-transparent skills but be VISIBLE to every one!…
for f sake wile there is the tiniest bit of stealth in game ppl wont stop whining….
hop on you 100blades warrior or your d/d ele and have fun smashing everyone’s faces and leave the forums alone…. you whine about the thief cuz you can select a target then press 3 buttons and move to the next one since the thief STEALTHES and you cant do your magic combo you ppl fill the forum with these terrible sugestions for nerfing thieves even more…
the worst part is that a-net gives in to this nonsense and has been nerfing thieves more and more and more… 23 nerf patched for thieves since launch. in a few days will be nr. 24 im still waiting for them to change target but apparently they will not be happy until there are no thieves left in the mist. GJ a-net! GJ.
They said they would put a blog post on it …. be patient
What I hope is that they do the same as last patch, that is patchnotes a few minutes/hours before the update.
That was awesome.
do you even read the blog posts? they are as vague smoke. zero specifics, basically they say something like this:
“like its gonna be awesome, like, like you are going to love it, like the internal testers are smashed by the greatness of this patch like like like aw mah gad just wait and see like…”
P.s. why do devs abuse the word “like” out of context? i started counting the amount of times they said “like” in the last SotG and i got lost at 40+ and still had about 30min of video left o.O
Here you go.
Fixed that thing we fixed latch patch
Cleaned up some tool tips
Still thinking about Ranger / Engineer / Necromancer balance
Nerfing Theives
Buffing Ele’s
Changing Loot Drops for Chest
Removing Culling….Maybe.
A secondary patches to patch the stuff we broke with the first patch
Subsequent patches to patch those patches
Flame and Frost updatesThere you go pretty much covered it for you.
Yep, this is the summary of the patch notes!
I’m almost certain Fleet Shadow is not working properly. I understand that it can’t go above 133%, and theoretically the purpose of the +50% is to put you at nearly 133% even while in combat, since combat brings you down to like 80%.
Even when in combat though, you only seem to move as quickly as ordinary swiftness would allow.
It’s easy to test. Just gain swiftness while already in combat, CnD someone on the run, and see if you move any faster. My testing says no.
Saem here, I even tested it with team mates in empty spvp maps were we go for dueling. Me in stealth with swiftness move at the same speed as them with swiftness. Meaning I can’t close in on him. Without the trait I move at the exact same speed in the same circumstances… Meaning its not working as it should be.
the starting animation is way to slow, most of the times wen you need an evade and use SF you will end up eating the dmg anyway because it takes 1sec from wen you hit the key until it actually evades… its the worst evade skill we have atm. all others evade immediately on key press.
If there’s anything that GW2 has taught me, it’s that even if an MMO is destined to be one of the greatest, the devs can find a way to screw it up.
I learned that from WAR first, then SWtoR…
Thieves shortbow #5 gets me stuck in wall many many times as well.
the same skill gets me out too but it takes a few tries…
OP you just described what my ranger is like when I play against a noob; its a very different story against a half decent player of any other class. Get better and your issue with ranger will go away.
well it’s allot easier to come to the forums to complaint and demand nerfs
your quote is valid for thieves as well but hey whining won and the nerf bat is on its way.
Wen the thief becomes a free kill (in 2-3 patches at this rate) then every one will be happy! thieves will be owning with they’re warriors / Mesmers / Eles alts that will become mains very very soon.
Mobility is defense.
At what cost?
Other professions have they’re offensive and defensive cooldowns, thief has initiative, if the thief has to burn it all in mobility there will be nothing left to spend offensively.
(edited by Volrath.1473)
I don’t think a-net wants the thief to have much thoughness, they want it to evade/dodge/stealth to avoid dmg, not tank it.
Still it’s not even close to an ele that besides evading and dodging they also have immunitys AND are able to tank.
I’d like to see them reduce the recharge on Shadowstep by around 10 seconds, and increase the return duration to around 30 seconds.
Increase the window of opportunity to activate Shadow Trap after it’s been triggered.
Make Blinding Powder remove stun instead of Haste.
Change Body Shot to roll backward, dodging, then fire. Apply momentary Immobilize or Cripple instead of Vulnerability.
Reduce the base recharge on Steal to 40 seconds.
Change Last Refuge to instead grant Vigor while in stealth.I think this would all go a long way toward improving mobility.
Ele would still be better then thief
Thief is a profession with night burst and the one that already suffered the most for missing a combo or a CnD. Other burst professions like warrior/ele/mesmer suffer alot less for missing they’re burst than the thief.
Just so you know the reveled changes is not supposed to be a penalty for thieves that miss 1 CnD (6 init. Half the init pool is by itself a high penalty) it to avoid trolling by only using CnD to stay in stealth (which is harmless).
I play a thief as well since beta.
I have played around with all weapon sets and specs I have no problem with change and adaptation, I’m just worried that with these change and the mobility/evasiveness that we are suppose to get to compensate for this will penelizes thieves due to initiative cost to stay alive and by so not having enough initiative to CnD due to the high initiative cost of it.
Now that there is a “cooldown” on it making it impossible to “spam” it’s initiative cost should be diminished since it was high just to avoid spamming.
Hi, as er all know the reveal mechanic will now trigger not only wen a thief attacks from stealth but every time stealth wares off by itself as well.
Imo this is a very drastic change to the mechanic and will have a big impact in all aspects of the game.
Since the company policy is to change and tweak stuff little by little this reveled changes sounded to me to be a bit rough.
My suggestion is to have different reveled timers for different situations.
- Thief attacks from stealth, 3sec reveled as it is atm
- Stealth wares off by itself without any action being made to brake it 1,5 or 2 sec reveled.
I believe it is more than enough time to spot and react to the thief’s presence, 3 sec it’s just to much for a profession that highly depends on stealth, both offensively and defensively.
By adding mobility to compensate is a double nerf to thieves since allot more initiative will be spent to use these evading abilities wile waiting for reveled to ware off and hope to still have enough of it to get into stealth…
Please think very carefully about what you are putting into the next patch for this profession. Test it, tend test it again and then test some more, if it is not perfect, don’t push in.
Stealth is FAR too powerful, that is what people are not understanding. It not only gives you a huge advantage offensively but defensively as well. The fact that stealth can heal you, remove conditions, reduce your cooldowns(regen initiative), increase your crit, give you might, and blind all on top of being able to pick your battles, ambush your enemy, and get away if things go south is imbalanced. What makes it even worse is that it is spammable via C&D and the initiative system. ArenaNet took stealth, which is already a huge balancing act, and dialed it up to 11.
Except its not stealth thats too powerful, 3-4 seconds of invisibility with a few extra effects ONLY if you trait for it is not inherently powerful, its power comes from people not following you and good players can and will still hit you in stealth.
The bad part is almost purely the C+D spam, which is really only an issue because of the damage from C+D (though how people still die from 1 mediocre hit every 3-4 seconds and not figure out where the thief is I dont know) or the combo field abuse to get a very long duration stealth, out side of those stealth requires burning a cooldown to enter, a cooldown that takes up a slot in a limited set up and of course while stealthed the thief is not doing anything but potentially taking damage so if people do chain their stealth there not accomplishing anything offensive during that time.
Except rather than focus on the few cheesey applications Anet decides to blanket nerf the entire system that not only effects every thief who uses stealth in any fashion (some won’t feel it, some will) but it also effects other classes and the entire game.
well, so much for the “change little by little” policy… this is a very drastic change and i can’t wait to see (/sarcasm) what other drastic changes will be made to compensate thieves for this nerf (/sarcasm off)
Problem is those are gap closers, not slippery get away abilities.
Being slippery and retreating are entirely different things.
Being slippery is being able to get in and out of situations quickly.
wrong subforum, you are clearly talking about the ele.
Thieves are not invincible while in stealth. Knockbacks, knockdowns, immobilizes, dazes, stuns, AoEs all work wonderfully against a thief.
No. 1 excuse Thieves are using that stealth is not overpowered. The problem is, you can’t see the Thief, so you don’t know where, when to hit, and when you hit, how do you know you have hitted him?
well if you have played this game for more that a week you should KNOW by now that if the thief is stealthed, he is positioning himself behind you or one of your friends…
is it really that hard to predict were the thief will be? i have zero problems with that. wile fighting other thieves i ALWAYS pull of a CnD on them wile they ARE in stealth and that is a melee attack so why wouldn’t any other profession learn how to do it? specially the ones with AoE capabilities?
… aw yeah… it is allot easier to come to the forums and complaint that actually train yourself and learn how to counter other professions…
Survivability on a thief is the stealth line. See the problem?
Yup, I see it. The problem is that even with no points in the stealth line, stealth is still incredibly easy to access.
That’s what you meant right?
do you honestly believe that with the change to Reveled thieves will have less access to stealth?! I didn’t heard anything about stealth abilities being removed from the game, it will still stack, and the cooldowns are the same so sorry… I guess you’ll have to complaint a bit more.
this changes will make it a lot harder for a thief to survive wile in a numerical disadvantage situation (wvwvw, 2v1 3v2 5v3 etc.)
on a 1v1 this will change nothing on a thief game-play since he is always braking its own stealth by attacking thus triggering Reveled debuff anyway.
I can easily adapt to this nerf, no prob, what worries me is not knowing what will be done to compensate the thieves for this survivability nerf.
Something about increasing mobility besides the mandatory Shorbow which is a good thing but by itself wont be enough of a compensation i believe….
Tbh I’m actually looking forward to these changes with some degree of expectation.
I see what they are doing and agree with it (I’m a thief myself and play with 30 in Shadow Arts). They mentioned how they want the thief to be the MOST mobile profession in game and take back that role from the ele (that has it all… mobility/dmg/bunker/healing).
BUT (there is always a but) although im exited about the upcoming changes I’m kind of afraid the “compensation” for losing stealthiness and in some degree survivability my be not enough since it it a company policy to not do drastic changes and tweak things little by little.
Punishing stealth builds by triggering Revealed every time one gets out of stealth (not only wen attacking wile in stealth) IS in fact a drastic change.
Will the “compensation” for such nerf be also drastic? or simply small tweaks here and there and we will only see some kind of compensation for this nerf after the next 3-4 patches considering the little by little policy?
That would be OP … 7 / 8 k * 3 in a row …
100nades / 100blades / shatter / that aoe 3sec cast in earth atonement from eles
Hi,
I have been watching this trait very carefully and… is it only me or does it ONLY work wen you are out of combat?
I have tested it extensively and came to the conclusion that wile in combat and stealthed i move at the exact same speed as another player without any movement increasing buffs.
on the other hand if i’m out of combat the movement speed increase is highly notable…
When this trait was added to the game i though “this trait will allow me to position myself faster or get out of a fight faster! i must have it” but since it does not work wen I most need it the most and it only works out of combat (making it highly circumstantial) why would anyone take it instead of for example Power of Inertia or Vigorous Recovery?!
Why would I want to stealth out of combat? even if I’m engaging some one, with the 3 sec stealth duration, I need to be very close to the target before entering stealth, they would have seen me coming anyway….
Pls correct me if I’m wrong or missing something about the usefulness of this trait.
The counter to thieves in wvw is to go run dungeons. There is no counter
wvwvw is not pve if you are fighting players like you do in instances versus NPC’s you will die to thieves and all other profession, if instead of learning how to counter them you run off to pve you will never learn.
Just sain
If the point was yours and now it is contested, it’s quite easey to assume its the enemy…
Also true if the point belongs to the enemy and now it is contested…
Not true, even traited with gear for duration, thieves have a window open on CD’s. Often will leverage CnD on npc’s in the area not to use there utilities.
Here’s one of the first videos I found on Youtube by typing in perma stealth thief, please point out where the CD window is that you can see the thief to attack.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSbw8Cpy-3s
Video is outdated, stealth doesn’t stack like that anymore, d/p thieves are harmless if you died to one that you probably played bad. Plus to stop him from stealth all you had to do was get close to the smoking ring on the flor, one of the heart seeker will surely hit you and trigger reviled.
OR you could roll one and learn they’re tricks/strategies so you can counter them just like every other competitive player does instead of taking the easy road and come to the forums complaining.
Judging by your post you clearly have no clue about thieves…
Do I die to thieves? Ofc I do as I die to every other profession if I’m not prepared for them (low HP / utilities on cd) otherwise I rarely lose a 1v1 and when I do I know I was outplayed because I did my best to win and it wasn’t enough.
Dodge/evade his CnD, avoid caltrops and burst him down after he waists his init on CnD. If he manages to land one, use stealth yourself to avoid heavy dmg + 5 stacks of bleeds.
Works well for me. I’m a d/d SB thief (0/30/30/10/0)
Imo it is not bad but it isn’t very good either. The stealthed ability Is useful for pistol/dagger condi thief but it is plain bad for pistol/pistol burst.
Why do ppl say that p/p thieves have no stealth? Don’t they have healing/utility slots?
There is current a bug with the ‘Join Solo’ button where it does not properly submit your roster during times of high latency. We intend on hotfixing this in our next patch.
That is clearly not the ONLY bug on the “Join solo” system but hey, at least something is getting fixed.
Tks for that
