What’s wrong with being a single target master that picks off a dozen people in a zerg fight while tossing out random cluster bombs in the down time?

I am sorry but if you are able to do that in a zerg vs zerg fight you need better allies and certainly better opponents. Neither are doing their job well if you have the time and leisure to do that.

Keep in mind I’m used to being a thief target as well with my main being a sheer glass full rampagers staff Ele. I’ve experienced both my share of having thieves jump me and stopping thieves attempting to jump others. As part of a team we watch over each other and any brazen thieves are smashed very quickly and we don’t lose many to them.

Note: I’ve been downed by such thieves quite a few times. I’ve died because of it very few times however. THAT is what teamwork does.

Pistol off-had ability “Headshot” will be revamped. will keep the same name but the thief will put the gun to its own head and BAM! * bypasses down state, thief suicides BUT grants no points to the opponent, nor to its team and does not drop loot bag.

just checking if any one is having the same problem…
for the last 3 days i have been experiencing high lag in this part of the game, constant lag with occasional spikes, ppl warping every ware, ability lag, chat lag…

I thought it was a prob with my pc or ISP but i have tested everything and it appears to be just fine, i don’t have any lag in other aspects of the game as well as other online games…

anyone else?

I am not as passionate about Gw2 as I was 2 month ago so, tbh i don’t care anymore…
devs may do whatever they want, I will not feel bad about it nor have another sleepless night.

This is a free to play game and if I chose to stop playing it for a wile and play something else that grants me more pleasure and fun, I will do that.

Once Gw2 feels enjoying and fun again, ill play Gw2.

For me, personally it still is fun to play so here I am. But i’m also playing another game now so i’m dividing my time between both, still spending more time in Gw2 then the other but that can easily change.

How to counter D/P ?

quite doable, use CC (slow / root), use your stealth often, when he uses black powder you know that a heat seeker is coming your way so dodge it and even know he is stealthed you know exactly were he landed (the place you were standing before dodging so if you have a dagger off hand, use CnD on the place were he is and you will land it 90% of the times, he’s stealth will end before yours.

this is just some tips i don’t mesmerize my rotation or anything like that i play according to what my opponent does, but in general the above works really well.

If your are a GOOD player, any class will be good for you, although some will be easier, more rewarding to play, others alot more dificuld and somtimes frustrating, thief is one of the second kind of profession.

I main thief since BW1 and consider myself fairly skilled, i cant complaint much but if you are not a fast learner with quick reflexes or simply don’t have much time available to train, than i’d suggest you play a different profession. Otherwise, as i said before, you can play any class you wish including thief ofc

IMO instead of that you should really just let thieves have the same utility as the mesmer. I was thinking of giving each class a wvw specific utility that they could use. For example, you could give the thief the ability to open gates from the inside of an enemy tower for their allies if they were not detected upon the tower originally being taken. A Necro could for example have faster resurrection speed at the cost of the resurrected guy having revival sickness, an elementalist be able to fire elementally attuned catapult shots based on their attunement that offers more utility in exchange for less damage, etc etc.

In lieu of this I’d kinda want to see towers be kinda like keeps in the sense that there are multiple tiers of defense like in Keeps and in SMC but eh, that’s just me.

Sinet of Agility:
Passive: Grants increased precision.
Active: Refill endurance and cure a condition for each nearby ally.

Practiced Tolerance (Shadow Arts trait VI)
5% of precision is converted into vitality.

If i have the trait and equip the Signet, i gain 180 precision but get ZERO HP from the trait.

Intended or bug?

With the introduction of Larcenous Strike a lot of thieves started to run S/D and here we are:
2 seconds of daze every 3 seconds …
So i figure soon there will be a “nerf daze” cryfest.

Opinions ?

Actually it is every 4 seconds, normally more cuz the thief those in a FS before CnD, and if the thief manages to land ALL his CnD AND tactical strike on you, then the problem is not the thief…

yes, it has been like that for a long time, it is not that we dont have other viable builds, im constantly trying out nrw builds and weapon sets.

thing is ppl are so use to play BS that they only feel comfortable using anything else. Even if it is nerfed to the ground ppl will QQ about it but most will not adapt and will insist on that spec.

I never payed much attention to this until spectator mode came along, i went looking for new builds for me o try out but over 90% of the thieves i inspected were D/D and were 30/30/0/0/10 or 25/30/0/0/15… for me as a thief its fine, i can deal with them pretty easily but at the same time, it saddens me how bad they make this profession look like.

What's your S/D build?

0/30/30/0/10 here and doing great, allot of survivability (rarely die) and can take almost anything 1v1. Some good Engis and rangers give a good fight and take me down if they play well.

Crit Chance is caped at 70% doesn’t matter if you have 300% crit chance, it is caped at 70% (even with fury boon)

I would accept these change if the shooting speed and projectile speed were increased.

Atm we shoot 1 arrow per second and the projectile traveling speed is to slow, with the pre patch system it was acceptable because although the shooting speed is low and the projectile traveling speed slow, but at least it would hit the target unless it was dodge or evaded.

As it is atm it is close to impossible to land a hit in pvp and since all the SB skills have slow traveling speed, the only usefulness it has is “shotgunning” and Infiltrator’s Arrow…

I’m still trying to understand why this change was made… I don’t see any reason for this. If a Dev would kindly explain to us what the reasons we would very much appreciate

Now that short bow has gon from bad to worse, having a weapon set used for 1 single skill (#5) seems really bad…

What would you say if pistol #4 that is already bad and no one wastes init on it, what if it was change into a similar ability as SB #5 with shorter range?

SB will still be mandatory for wvwvw cuz of blastibe although its auto attack doesn’t even hit critters that move 1 step…

as far as I know only #5 abilities have costs above 5 initiative all the others are <= 4 init

Flanking strike and Larcenous Strike and 1 ability splitted into 2 strikes, so the total initiative cost of the ability was also split between the 2 Strikes. but if you wish to suggest splitting the 4 total initiative a different way 2/2 or 1/3 its fine by me but by doing so the evade part of the first strike will be allot more accessible. so imo 3/1 is just perfect.

Edit: If instead it worked like before, 1 ability 4 initiative and consecutive 2 strikes? would you like it better?

1) I fail do understand why you say that D/D and D/P are useless since NOTHING changed for those specs except the mug trait that was in fact WAY overpowered, I’m actually surprised it took them this long to nerf it. Apart from that every singe skill remains the same and dealing the same dmg or even more with the 100% buff to Assassin’s Signet.

2) drop your Glass cannon build and Berserker gear, you will be surprised.

Your nerfs to the healing of elementalist was too dramatic, considering so many other classes were buffed. Please consider tweaking the healing back up, it’s imbalanced that thieves have more mobility and burst and stealth in a single build, considering you’ve significantly hurt ele mobility & healing.

I saw BS thieves criting for 10k in sPvP so yeah, if you are asking for assassin’s signet to be change, do not expect a dmg burst utility cuz it will surely be something else.

Also, saying that GC is the only way to go its just diminishing… I have not played as a GC for months…

As for S/D yes it has improved and it is a viable weapon set now. If you ask me if it could be better, yes it could and should since it is now the “counter to bunkers” it should have a bit higher dps but last night I played around with it and after a couple of hours I was killing everything as fast as a D/P thief would.

If you are wondering what my build is, it’s 10/30/30/0/0. Normally I’d have the 10 in Acro but I wanted to test out mug that’s why the 10 are in Deadly arts.

The only point I fully agree with the o kitten ort bow…the nerf was not needed and I’m still trying to understand the reasons behind the nerf… Unfortunately it is the ONLY “must have” weapon making us have to chose 1 single weapon set to use mainly.

Maybe that was the reason… Nerf it so ppl would start using 2 different weapon sets in combat leaving SB shelved. Anyway… Bad idea imo. As long as SB is the only weapon set with the shadowstep in the z axis. No one will drop it.

Also in wvwvw it is the ONLY weapon that actually contributes for the team/raid…

As for reveled rollback in pve… It was needed but will be a mess in ppl’s heads… After 1h in pve when you enter pvp you will be “use to” the pve timer and we all know how that was wen they first changed it to 4sec…

IMO this is one of thoughts things that should be the same for all aspects of the game… Splitting dmg is one thing splitting core mechanic timers, imo, bad idea… Ppl have to get use to they’re abilities every time they what to do something different…
Anet constantly encourages us to play in all aspects of the game and the reveled mechanic is just punishing players that do just that.

i know i have played with it, but it is very VERY situational and I would prefere a shorter cooldown on it to allow faster engaging in combat… i need to stop using it at all cuz there isnt 1 match that I don’t accidentally remove myself from combat and leve my friends in disadvantage…

again this is my on very personal opinion, i respect yours and i’m not asking to change it, just making a suggestion and explaining the “why” i think it is needed

that would be more useful in sword #2 since the second ability (shadow return) lasts for 15 long long long seconds… sometimes i even forget it is there and accidently teleport myself to the other side of the map instead of entering combat…

what i don’t like about it is the 15sec to return.
it is WAY too long… some times i forget i even used it and press 2 to close in on a target and end up in the opposite side of the map…

8-10sec max would be more than enough… 15sec does allot worse than good…

We did test, but internal servers and external servers are not the same. Our internal tests were fine. This is why we beta!

you know that Public Test Servers would help you test out these things allot better than internal servers…

Not saying you should test everything on a PTS, stuff like class balance ans stuff like that, that you wanna keep private and we all understand why but… stuff like arenas and spectator could have been widely tested buy us FOR FREE and would avoid this kind of mess in the main servers…

It DOES NOT need to hit a target to toggle to Larcenous Strike unless hitting the air counts as hit.

aw and btw it is NOT that good. at least in competitive play, in hotjoins even using a dagger and no offhand works…

why is it not that good? because it has no spike dmg (not even with haste + auto attack) and with reveled at 4sec it is a too vulnerable to dmg.

Bring back the 3sec reveled to pvp and it should be allot better, not just this spec but all that depend on stealth to be effective.

They did state they intended to make steal usable as a shadowstep without a target. So you could steal AWAY form your target and get a heal out of it.

If guardians and Eles heal so much is because they are suppose to.
Thieves roll is a different one, that’s the beauty of different professions, if you are unhealthy with your thief play a different protection, problem solved.

more or less, Flanking strike nas a slow animation and the roll is… “random” so if you are mobile (as in take 1 side step) it misses.

What they are doing is basically replacing the Existing flanking Strike and dividing it into 2 chain skills the first will hit and evade and the animation (or so they say) has been improved and it is also faster, (not sure if the unblockable part will stay though), after hitting the first skill that costs 3 initiative the second skill appears in the bar, that skill will be called larcenous, costs 1 initiative and will steal 1 stack of boons and its remaining duration. From what i gathered it will be the last applied/refreshed boon.
Ofc needs to be in melee range.

new skill that “steals” boons for 1 initative

that is half true, the skill does cost 1 initiative but is the second ability of a chain, the first ability costs 3 initiative and since it is a chain you cant skip directly to the boon stealing ability, so its cost is 4 initiative.

If a thief spamms it, he will be able to steal 3 boons since the initiative pool is 12 (not traited)

It’s almost like anet are allergic to my money or something. Every time I get ready to drop some dosh on gems for the month they go and balls something up.

But while its amusing to go rabid hyperbole mode with the news, its still pretty frustrating that they refuse to bring other builds/weaponsets up to the same level of usefulness and instead just focus on whats working now and constantly tweaking it. Whats working now should evolve over time as you fix and adjust other areas of the system that are completely useless, as the devs have already seen & commented on in the video. It only takes a minutes glance at the ele traitlines to see numerous ’turtle’s defense’ type traits.

well warriors and thieves have been on the bottom of the food chain for the last few months as Eles have been on the other end of it so… what did you expected?

Back stab has a bonus dmg wen behind the opponent, tactical strike doesn’t. It dazes if your behind the opponent and blinds it you are not behind the opponent.

And it’s dmg has always been low anyway since it is more a utility the a dmg skill.

Devs also said the base dmg increase will not be this patch and not to expect balancing changes next patch since it will be mainly bug fixes and tooltip rewriting.
