2 month waiting for a patch and this is what they came up with?! lol
when we launched with almost no features in PvP.
Yeah, great way to start successful mmo, ay? ….
Only if you had all the features we have atm from launch. Gw2 PvP would be quite more popular.
One of the most successful MMOs of all time launched with no pvp support at all. 6 months in they added an insane grind for gear rewards, shortly after that they added their first instance to fight in. Just over 2 years later, they introduced arenas. 4 years after release, they implemented the siege engines they had been promising since beta. GW2 launched with more pvp maps than WoW had for the first 2 years, and has added more at a faster rate than WoW ever did. WoW was/is a sub game that still sold most of their pvp content in expansions, neither of which applies to GW2. For the first 6 months, they had zero game modes. For the next 18, the only game mode they had that GW2 doesn’t was CTF, and considering they didn’t introduce conquest until 9 months in, even if GW2 doesn’t add another mode for nearly another year, they will still be pulling a better average than WoW. Oh and that initial class balance? Still makes me laugh.
Yet I enjoyed it. I didn’t complain on the forums because I could imagine something better. I’d already played plenty of better pvp games tbh. That didn’t make the one I was currently playing any less fun.
Developing MMOs takes a long time. That’s why they all launch with work yet to be done. GW2s pvp development pace has actually been phenomenal when you compare it to something like that.
WoW is a 9 year old game… how dare you compare its release with GW2? 9 years ago when it came out (it was being made for a few years) the kind of technology available and resources were “slightly” different from the ones GW2 had!
Not to mention that WoW was the first of its kind and many others came after it.
GW2 had better technology, better resources, allot more experience (since they had build a successful MMO before (GW1), knowledge from other mmo’s out there.
For that reason ALONE they sold as fast as they did… With all that, (IMO) GW2 should have come out way better that it did… unfortunately the game came out to be a flop and let many ppl down that went back to there previous game or moved on to the next.
They may “try” to “fix” it but the harm as been done and there is no going back now. The population (specially the PvP one) will continue to diminish.
Even know it is a F2P game, in the MMO gaming every one knows that once you drop it you are never going back…
So I shouldn’t expect a replay mode nor observer mode a la gw1 anytime soon. K, is automated tournaments like gw1 hard to implement?
Just so we can get some perspective…
Yes, that’s also very hard to implement, but will be a great addition to the game down the road!
I never played GW1 but if you already had all those platform running, why didn’t you have them in mind wile creating GW2? or at least build the engine with the “foundations” to easily allow the implementation of such features in the future?
Now it takes years to modify it…
I will wait and see but by the looks of it the thieves will have no spec left, every single one of our weapon sets has been nerfed even the laughable short bow…. what next?
Does any one else feels the disturbance in the force on the dev’s side?
NO I’m not!
but my wife and daughter are! Just because I spend alot mot time with them now.
The PAX Prime tournament in Seattle was entertaining to watch. That’s all that matters. Hopefully some attention was brought on GW2 as a result, and the competitive PvP community will grow.
imo it’s the other way around… it might bring a few new players to the game but at what cost? many many players are dropping it right now… the ppl on my friends list. only 1, yes 1 out of the few left that still log in says he will stay another month. all the rest are jumping out as am I.
GL
PaX was a disaster
for some reason you look surprised.
Most of us already knew it was going to be bad, ok not as bad as it really was but still not surprisingly bad.
nothing beats the mighty COW!! xD
ofc, the problem is players!!! how didn’t i thought of this before?! Mammoth you are a genius!
the game is just fine, its pure perfection the only problem with it is that there are still a few ppl left playing it. after they are gone every thing will be just fine.
It’s their game, they can and will do whatever they want with it, hell they can even play it if they want just not with me…
I stopped playing twice and came back twice, the third time i quit with be with a shift+del and i will not look back. This reality my come as they say “soon…” since games are meant to be fun and i’m having enormous amounts of fun in another (older) game.
Volrath have you read these forums? 85% of the posts here are toxic and terrible. If I were a dev, I wouldn’t want to spend time here either.
you kno what? You are right! Keep devs out of the forums!
after 1 year, this “strategy” has brought us to
- the worst meta ever seen in this game
- empty spvp maps
- long tournament queues
- entire guilds gone
- unbalanced professions
- broken mechanics
- and so onso if you think that continuing to ignore the players is the way to go… Just wait another year. (If there is still someone playing this game) it will be awesome for sure!
tbh, we have this meta EXACTLY because they look at the forums, take THE WORST INPUT POSSIBLE FROM ONE OF THE MOST DUMB COMMUNITY EVER and balance according to it.
“Necro is UP, buff pls UEEEEE UEEEEE”
“Ranger is UP, buff pls UEEEEEEE UEEEEE”
“Thief too stronk, nerf pls UEEEEEEEEEE UEEEEE " ( they buff it into something different, still they cry)
“Mesmer too stronk, pls nerf UEEEE UEEEE ( condi meta arises, mesmers disappear)
“Warrior too UP, pls buff UEEEE UEEEE ( here they come with 10 secs berserker stance stunlock warriors).
“Ele too stronk, pls nerf UEEEEE UEEEE ( they broke ele mobility, healing and condi cleanse, forcing them into subotpimal one shot wonders)./BALANCE.
Well, the players in general (even the ones that played those professions) told them more than once, twice, 10 times what they should do to tune down those professions without totally braking them.
Did they took any on the suggestions in consideration? not even close, they did whatever they wanted, the way they wonted and told us to kittening “adapt”.
and if you all notice they constantly say “WE feel it’s in a good place” “what WE thought it was best” WE this WE that, never the community…
well ok they do mention the community once or twice when they say “the community thinks this and that BUT WE (…)”
If its their game and it’s all about them, let THEM play it the way THEY want… with each other….
The mats will absolutely drop in WvW. In addition, generally speaking, we are putting a heavier emphasis on finding long-term solutions to redressing the reward imbalance between PvE and WvW. I can’t claim they will ever be 100% equal all the time, but we would like it to never be the case that you are choosing between playing WvW and getting good rewards. The two should be one in the same.
Does this mean we can also look forward to Ascended items from WvW badge rewards? I’m talking about back pieces and accessories of course.
I’m not going hold my breath on this one.
Purely from badges, no. We will be getting Ascended back items into WvW and accessories are already there. We’ve been focused on the Ascended items more generally and not specifically in WvW right now. However, we will make sure WvW is at parity with the rest of the game in terms of Ascended gear.
… a few month down the road ofc the priority is equipping the PVE players and force WvW players to do PvE to get there gear, when the Ascended gear arrives in WvWvW we will all have them already just like it happened with the jewelry.
Gear treadmill anyone?! I heard somewhere that this game would not have it. Was it from a DEV?… hum…

Keep in mind though, any time that they spend posting on the forums takes away from the time that they are implementing. More posting = less features.
Hug it out
I love this statement!!! as if it is a favor they are doing us…
I would prefer if they spent 5h in the forums and 3h programming per day IF that meant they would do less implementations but the little they do is what the community needs based on OUR feedback they THEY collect themselves by talking to us.
As is, they implement whatever THEY feel like, regardless of what the community needs…

Busy making pve content and designing horrible gear sets to try and sell them to us on TP
I am playing another mmo and I’m having a blast, I’m loging into gw2 to do my pvp daily then log out again.
tbh I don’t even know why I force myself to do it…
IMO is a matter of “learn to counter” I normally have no problem against average players but a good one can shut me down for good.
for example a warrior friend of mine does not rush into me nor he charges like a mad man swinging at the air, he lets me close on him (he literally waits for me) and as soon as i use #3 the first evade, he knocks me down and obliterate’s me, even if i manage to shadowstep away with 50% of my health he will do it again if i use #3.
So i had to learn how to kill a warrior without using #3 otherwise he would kill me, since he was just waiting for me to press it to use his CC.
Grab a thief friend and duel him as many times as you need to find a way to counter them, that’s my advice.
OR you can just cry out loud for nerfs… it’s alot easier right?
Edit: Rank 41 with 100% of my play time on Thief.
Will PvP players ever get a chance to earn gems and more importantly gold?
I’m a PvP player and the guild I’m in moved to another server 2 weeks ago, I’m still grinding for gold in order to change it for gems and transfer to join them.
In a PvE environment i accept the “allowance” of letting a player be resed 5 times, but in PvP it’s penalizing players that “win” a 1v2.
In PvP these res system should be different, reduce the amount of possible reses to 2, meaning the third time you god down it is permanent…
Whats up with SOTG?! is it gone for good?
There is already little to no communication at all, without the guru’s SOTG, whats left?
it is a total grind fest but it has the most beautiful graphics in any MMO up till now.
I’m not going to play it though.
Now Wildstar… that one i will
Coin wold be nice since there is no way of making gold (if your a pvp only player)…
my guild has changed server and i am stuck since i need about 40g to rejoin them…
Am I the only one who likes the new minimap? :/
no man, i’m with you
although i totally understand ppl that dont and completely support them on having the option to chose the minimap they feel more comfortable with.
You Sr. Have nailed it!
+1
Thief D/D Condi and D/D perma evade are one and the same build btw…
a fork to match my knives.
Edit: a spoon would be cool too!
I don’t find pvp fun because I don’t get to use the same gear I do in pve/wvw.
are you talking about looks or stats?!
I hope its looks though…
ok, if you don’t like sword i would recommend D/P.
The spec is simple, 0/30/30/10/0 were the 10 in acrobatics can go elseware if you prefer for instance mug or Uncachable.
in Critical Strikes take I, VI (or VIII) and XI
in Shadow Arts take IV, V and XI
the other 10 points are up to you
as for utilities I would suggest Hide in Shadows + Signet of Agility, Blinding Powder and Shadow Refuge + Thieves Guild
Gear, take full Valkyrie with Berserker jewelry.
I did extremely good with this build before but now i’m running with a Sword xD
Good hunting
Also, bigger patches don’t always equal better.
So I guess you guys learnt that one the hard way huh. I’m sorry but I really don’t appreciate you patronising everyone with questions like “what is fun?”. Helseth’s claims may often seem outlandish, but what he is describing is how he feels, and the truth is that these sentiments are shared with a huge population of pvpers. This is how we feel, you can’t just dismiss this or label it as subjective without alienating a lot of people.
You say you want constructive criticism. Well, I personally would like to see a LOT more transparency. I’ve noticed the player interaction has really dwindled in the spvp forum as of late, with pretty much every post that mentions balance being completely ignored. You say there are reasons other than PAX that stop you from pushing balance changes, yet you fail to enlighten us — are we not entitled to understand why you are leaving the game in a sorry state for an extended period of time?
Also, please don’t lash out at players in this thread saying that if they don’t give you info you can’t do anything about it; this information is in abundance in the spvp forum. There are extensive notes and suggestions and it feels like they’re being ignored. I’m explicitly stating that this is what it feels like before you start an argument.
The players in the pvp scene are understandably angry and this is reflected in their posts. You, however, have no right to be so rude.
(…) Chew on that!
<3
It’s been one year and honestly spvp is the same with a new meta. Every1 has to understand anet prioritizes PVE NOT spvp. Look at the amount of content dished out to pve over the last year compared to spvp.
I mean it’s not really the devs fault…their young and still learning and don’t have the number of staff.
Anyway August 27 will relieve me of this disappoint of a game anyhow. GL
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s gonna happen on August 27?
I agree with most of what he said but not about balancing before PAX. Even if the current meta is bad, tweaking something right before the tournament is a no go since the teams just got used to this a bit.
you are right! the rest of the world must suffer for 2 month so that a couple of guys can play 3 matches with the current state of the meta! since they are noobs and cant adapt in 2-3 days of testing/training.
/applaud
Stealth is not a boon so no.
Allie, I’m sorry if I’m too passionate about this game but thats because i love it…
I’m going to bed now, I have to work early in the morning, also i dont wanna argue with you because i like you as well.
BUT (there is always a but…) what you are asking is for feedback to gain any credit we have to repeat ourselves countless times?
If one player make a valid point and other agree with it and comment on it is not enough?
If we create new threads about the same issue they get closed/merged.
Please explain, tell us how you want your feedback and we will give it to you.
Until now, we are clearly doing it wrong.
Get into the game and play it, talk with ppl in the Mists (if you can find anyone there) there are dozens of threads in this subforum with detailed feedback, videos, screenshots, practical examples and some suggestions too.
I don’t understand why you keep asking for constructive feedback have you read it all already? if so, i’m sure you won’t need any more…
EDIT: I agree that balancing takes time but what about tweaking a hand full of abilities that are braking the game atm?! how long does it take to make a temporary adjustment to those 5-6 abilities so that it is less frustrating to wait for an actual patch to fix it?!
(edited by Volrath.1473)
Firstly, we have no qualm or rivalry with Helseth.
That aside, I have some questions, and would like to address some other points made.
1. What exactly do you mean by allocating resources to eSports?
2. What exactly is your definition of fun? Fun is subjective, no?While we definitely appreciate it when players are vocal and provide feedback, excessive hyperbole does not help us to understand the fundamental issue.
Some more points:
1. The current meta is not controlled by the PvP team. Yes, we monitor it closely as balance greatly affects PvP. However, no resources are being taken away from PvP development in order to do balance. So I’d like to just squash that misconception now.2. Skill effect clutter – another thing not controlled by the PvP team. Another thing that we monitor and provide feedback to the teams that do control it.
3. Sending out in-game mail is not as easy as it sounds. Keep in mind that every message that is sent has to be edited and localized.
- This is, however, something we recognize as an area to be improved. We are investigating ways to provide in-game messaging for events.
4. Lastly, I want to thank you for promoting the guildwars2pvptv channel. I always see a few people on the team with the stream always going on their 2nd/3rd monitors. Once PAX has past, we’ll be looking to better promote streamers from all areas of the game. So keep it up!!
ok so basically everything that is wrong with the game is not your fault. There is nothing at all under “control” you simply “monitor” thats cute!
I guess it is ours then! this meta is the worse EVER and i believe we all agree on that but it is ofc the players fault for playing the extremely OP professions that YOU made.
The original post got moved out of the pvp forum so heres a repost.
Keep this alive and share.
http://www.twitch.tv/helsethgw2/c/2779775
Pls tell Helseth that although i agree and support every word he said in the 3 rants i saw, Anet does not deserve the effort he is putting in making these videos…
Btw if he can’t post on these forums himself tells alot about how much devs give a kitten about what we players say.
In fact if you read a post from them or watch a video they ALWAYS say “how we want” “how we feel” “what we are aiming for” THEM, always THEM never the players.
well until A-net learns to balance the professions (there was a time when i though they had nailed did but they broke it again 2 month later…) there will always be a profession that will be dominant.
Since in PvP everyone has the same lvl and gear, there is very little effort to reroll, some players will always reroll the op class or at least make an alt just to see how fun it is to faceroll other players that chose to play with their “main” character"
If everyone could only enter PVP after lvl 25 although ppl will still roll the OP classes, the number of players that do it would diminish drastically i believe.
the other solution would be class balance (lol)
the devs know what they are doing man!
who the hell are players to complaint about it?
what do players know about the game?!
/sigh
A pistol on the offhand is superior to a dagger in every way possible. If you need to AoE just use a Shortbow.
that statement is entirely circumstantial :P
not to mention irrelevant and off topic. This topic is about a bug on a OH dagger skill and he is talking about pistols…
Back on topic, I do use a dagger offhand but since i have ways to keep my enemy crippled most of the time i didn’t notice this… Ill check it out when i get home from work.
Atm im playing with S/D and (trying out) P/P, yeah i know every one says P/P sucks and for that reason im trying to make it work xD and tbh it’s proven very effective versus some melee classes, nyst need to be extra carefull with retaliation and whirlwind abilities.
and the S/D is my jack of all trades.
I always play S/D + SB but im getting bored of playing the same set over and over and over again without any diversity…
I sometimes try to kill ppl with my SB only, without switching weapons just to have a different gameplay…
Don’t get me wrong i absolutely love SB but it is a shame that it is a MUST HAVE for every thief, almost mandatory… If it gets nerfed (again) it will be catastrofic but on the other hand…. how to make it not so mandatory?
The way i see it would be giving some kind of shadowstep ability to pistol (MH or OH doesn’t really matter) so that there is another weapon set that provides mobility without a target, even it the travel distance is shorter and the init cost higher… that SB #5.
Thieves should turn to SB for what it is mend to do, AOE dmg and not basically for one single ability (#5).
I have been trying it for the last couple of days and it feels so strange…
As a thief, SB is part of the profession, playing without it feels like i’m playing a different profession… The thief becomes very slow and its escapability almost disappears…
I will however force myself to play without it for a bit longer to see if I can get use to it since playing a thief is basically playing the only profession in the game with only one weapon set since the other is reserved for the SB. I am trying to end with this dependency and actually have 2 synergetic weapon sets like every other profession out there.
I doubt it will work and will be equipping my SB soon though
What about you? have you tried it? what do you think about playing without a SB equipped? do you feel crippled like i do?
and now the thread got moved to a place were no one EVER goes….
This guy is not e very good communicator (not even close to it) but he speaks the truth and his suggestions are valid imo.
Atm am taking my 3rd beak of this game… I will give it another chance in a couple of months but atm I am actually enjoying the game I’m playing, if gw2 keeps on not delivering, it will be the last time I quit. I’ve been playing online games for far too long and my patience and tolerance are at the limit.
still does the job though, it is supposed to stop the stomp, if ppl dodge out of it they interrupt their own stomp.
…no, I don’t think attacking a condition necro with a condition build is gonna work…
A somewhat sturdier power build with some CC? Yeah, that’ll wreck him for sure.
power builds are squishy and dye in 2 chain fears. You need a small group to take them down… If you watched the PAX you saw 4 ppl jumping necros from steath and the necros survive almost every time, 1 single person can’t take a necro down, unless he is afk off.
