Shadow step can never work as a teleport.
Mesmers need to fiscally go to both ends of the portal, shadow step does not, you would teleport to your ground target, that would mean you could teleport onto a keep wall (in wvwvw) or in PvP you could teleport to places that have no valid walk path and be unreachable to other players, and with deadeye around the corner imagine how it would be…

for open world anything goes, it all depends on how you like playing your thief.
D/D is very “Rogue” stile with backstabs and a lot of stealth S/P is more of a tankish cleave dmg, D/D condition dmg is very good too so it all comes down to personal preference.

In sPvP and Fractals is were you need to be more careful with what you pick but as long as you are effective and have fun it doesn’t really matter.

i read some ware that a condition build is also achievable and has a huge condi spike to it BUT it’s all about spamming one ability #2 so… boring, not for me…

about the breaking kneel imo its tricky…

A) If they make it brake with wasd then if you want to dodge in a specific direction wile kneeling and don’t wanna change stance how will you do it?

B) if it stays as it is it’s a bit clunky yes I agree. BUT…
Most ppl don’t use 5 for the fifth ability, everyone has it bind some were else like in Q ir E or F or X i have seen many streamers using a variety of keys. I have a Razer mouse with a gazilion buttons and i have the fifth skill bind on one of the thumb’s keys and i must say that i got use to going in and out of kneel comfortably.

C) make SPACE key to change stance back to standing but for some ppl (key mashers) this will probably make them jump for no reason and wile jumping we cant use any other ability…

I think it’s a tough one and i believe that for the time being anet is not going to change it due to the “dodging in specific direction wile kneeling without braking it” thingie.

just something to think about i guess

I got to the same exact conclusion!
same play style and strategy with just a couple of diferences to better match my play style.
this is what i came up with.

Also, with SB as secondary weapon mainly for mobility but it works very well with D/P too if you need to stay stealth for longer. To get in position for an ambush or to lose the 5 guys chasing you in wvwvw in SFR borderland on sunday 4am ish… coff coff

kill shot warrior doesn’t have an entire elite spec dedicated to it.

Doesn’t matter. A player must be punished if they are bad and firing at a warrior that’s using his reflect.

Have you tried roaming around in WvW? You can no longer fight without a deadeye being 1500 distance away hiding in stealth waiting to instant down you with a 20k damage spammable shot. I should be able to counter him by reflecting his shot back at him while I’m using an obvious reflect skill.

You counter a whole spec (and class) by just pressing one button. That’s really a l2p issue. Not.

sorry bro but i have to agree with EvilSardine, the reflect is clearly visible, you can stop attacking/enter stealth and wait it out or change you weapon and use melee until you see fit then just shadowstep away in stealth and finish him off.

Reflecting lock out our weapon set and trate line completely but we have another weapon set to use and it is for just a couple of seconds, if you die to reflect you got outplayed and deserve to die.

Sorry guys…

I talked a lot of BS prematurely, i forced myself to play rifle although i hated it, and now that i have 6+ hours with it, im starting to get the hang of it.

dont get me wrong, it is not amazing nor better then my current live server build BUT i’m now having fun and enjoying it instead of the previous hate.

I don’t know about u guys but to me rifle feels like a secondary weapon.
like short bow that we only use for mobility the rifle feels like a weapon that you switch to to finish someone that is already with low HP.

I do not see myself using a rifle as a main weapon it has high dmg and that is it, does not provide anything else.

The rifle seems a little too slow, but its strong in certain situations.
It takes a while to get used to having no gap closer like steal though.

The lack of mobility hurts in wvw, without daredevil, although it seems to synergize pretty well with SA.

I get it but… its a sniper! either you’re melee and mobile or sniper and siting duck, you cant have the best of both worlds.

Deadeye is a fantastic allrounder if traited properly! Key is to spec hybrid by going Shadow Arts (with standard Trickery), and build into stealth. The sustain you get from all your stealth sources through rifle 5, utilities, elite, and F1 is plenty enough to keep you moving around and surviving with Maleficient Seven GM (more selfheal). Be quick or be dead GM is good too, but can be much more random in case you dont land it, but you need every bit of sustain you can get to prolong the fight if needed.

One thing Im torn about is rifle 5 kneel, if we should be able to move around at much slower speed, as being stuck and having to dodge roll is new, but who knows..

Lastly, PLEASE CONSIDER making so that Skirmishers shot (rifle 2) doesnt require a target to trigger swiftness boon. This is a major quality of life change and I cant stress it enough how big it would be for us as roamers to get!!! Without it we have no swiftness upkeep inbetween A and B.

why would you move from A to B? you cant hold/contest a point just sit in stealth in a corner of the map and let do the work.

aw yeah you can shoot ppl to if you feel like giving up your location and give free points to the enemy team! \m/

Idk why people are complaining. You literally asked for years for “sniper” for years, what exactly did you expect if you gave the most mobile proffesion a “sniper”. We got most of this forum to thank for this.

People who asked for Rifle are not the ones complaining.

Thief, as a class, never needed any kind of a joke like Rifle or Longbow.

Having said that, instead of whining and living in the past, the most you can do to improve the situation is give proper feedback in the hopes that they will listen and address the major problems.

Well, ill just stick with the spec i’m running right now and hf destroying the few of you that dare enter an arena with a rifle xD

guys… we only got what “we” asked for… for years thieves have been asking for rifle.
I always thought it was a bad idea, clearly it was, so now live with it…

Even Anet is not confortable with it and you can tell by the guild chat specialization presentation. with other professions they show the skills on the golems and fighting class NPC’s, with thief they ONLY shown the abilities on golems, if you asked me they were afraid of losing to the npc’s wile in live stream, imagine how embarrassing that would be! LoL

It looks slow, static and boring to me, i’m only interested and finding out whats the viability of the trate line with diferent sets of weapons, using rifle in PvP is unthinkable.

Even in fractals, you need to be constantly on the move and dodging, it is impossible to use a rifle there too…

in wvwvw it might have some potential if your defending….

disappointed? yes!

I just came back recently to the game, and although i only did pvp and wvwvw, this time around i wanna do some pve, i on T1 of fractals and need tome advice.

went to metabattle but after last patch the i believe the pve builds have changed…

One shooting ppl from 1500 units will never happen. here is why.

1) You need to place a HUGE VISIBLE shiny mark over there heads
2) Build up 7 stacks of malice (that will take a long time to build up)
3) Hope that after 1 and 2 the target is still in range for you to take the shot
4) Pray that it does not get REFLECTED, blocked, dodged, immune and so on

On a fast paced PvP game like gw2 this specialization will never work. (imo)

Deadeye is not a 1v1 build its a 1v2, its best used when you opponent is busy fight some one else, so you can take a sniper shot at them catching the off guard its a ambush class like the warrior kill shot build was.

From what I heard on WP’s stream, Deadeye has to mark an opponent and then he’ll start doing more damage to his mark as he hits them. So basically, he has to mark the opponent for a while before he can start doing really big damage.

If you want to use rifle, that means you have to shoot your opponent a bunch (which grabs their attention), then you have to use 5 to set up and immobilize yourself, and fire away with 4.

You might be right that it’s a 1v2 spec, because I don’t see that working well 1v1.

PVE spec, will never see the light in such a fast paced SPvP environment as Gw2 has.

the ONE thing we have in SPvP is mobility, Rifle self roots you! o.O’

I haver been spectating some matches and although thieves are using different weapons they all are running DD/DA/TRIC.
I read on the forum ppl complaining about condi thieves but so far I haven’t seen one…

Before I stopped playing (not by choice) I was condi using P/D + SB sometimes using P/P just for fun.

I think I might buy HOT after all on my next day off.

All recommendation, tips and links are welcome xD

Hey guys!
I haven’t played Gw2 since October 2015, i did not buy the HoT at the time. Now i feel like playing Gw2 again but before I buy HoT i decided to jump in and see how the game is atm, it looks nothing much has changed, the SPvP servers are even emptier then before…

I’m not asking if I should or not come back or if I should buy HoT or not, i just would like to know if you guys are still having fun, if there wvwvw has action all day or just at prime time and if SPvP has long queue times ir pops quickly.

So, patch notes are in and I’m so glad that Anet decided to just ignore all the rampant QQing about guardians.

When you die to something next time just think about what you did:
1. Could you have just dodged the trap? (Answer: Yes)
2. Could you have guessed where the traps are? (Answer: Yes)

The only dangerous trap is Dragon’s Maw and that only if you stand in it.

Hopefully the community can just start learning how to play better instead of going to ask for a nerf on the forum.

“Bounding Dodger” should softlock on your target and try to jump right on top of it, instead of jumping over it when standing right in front of the target

I’m trying so very hard not to blame one person, or to put a dev down, but… it is a difficult-to-ignore pattern that the worst Elite Specializations are all led by the same person…

Not sure if he actually led the the specializations or simply presented them on live stream…

After watching magic toker play. I decided to buy the xpack. Yes there are allot of fixing and tweaking to do but i believe the result will be good.
Unfortunately we will end up with 2 “mandatory” tratelines… for every weapon set and play style, trickery and dd leving us with one trateline to rotate…

Anyway, since I’m moving to uk to work there i will only be buying it in December or January. Until then i hope thieves will be in a better place.

Almost definitely a bug. The tooltip has no initiative cost on it, just a cooldown. It’s probably because an earlier iteration of Daredevil used Initiative for new utility skills as well, which got changed and this was accidentally left behind.

After reviewing the stream on youtube, it is noticable that initiative is used in every hit to a total of 4 (1 per hit) is this intended? if so this is the first utility skill ever that is dependent on initiative.

Can Karl or any other dev confirm that this is the way this utility skill is supose to be or if it’s just a bug that will be corrected?
