Which professions or builds would use this gear in an optimal set up?
In pve at least it won’t be optimal. However, when struggling to survive in full dps gear, a couple pieces of Zealots (sort of like training wheels) would be a good substitute from knights due to power being the primary stat, and still having precision.
he needs precise answers so he knows which recipes will be most demanded and will have the best Return of Interest.

Haha, 720 armor on a pair of gloves. You are kidding, right?
161*4 equals 644 and 720.
But with that kind of base defense, nothing in pve would do ANY damage to you.
It would also make downscaling OP, as you would have 4 times more defense than a lvl 60 player in rare gear in a lvl 60 region.

With the upcoming change this is probably going to lose the flat +10% and get changed to +70 ferocity as well.
Not necessarily the best buff. Dragon’s Breath Bun, Plate of Truffle Steak Dinner and Carrot Soufflé are potentially better depending on the situation.
Depending on the situation, thats the point.
We kinda skip most parts in dungeons, so I want a flat dmg boost and not something like this. There are mostly no mobs we gonna kill quite before a boss, so for me, the food you mentioned is crap. :o
I mean ok, I could eat 100 power 70 prec food, but yeah, dmg guard with RHS. I’ve got enough prec.
Im aktual using 100 power 70 vit only cause I won’t efford the food I mentioned in the topic.
Ok, the reason is more, that I know my guildmates and I would be the only one using this food and then it’s kinda wasted imo.
Its a good food when roaming in wvw as well.

I think its because of condition and boon duration on them. Those are quite powerful stats. There is a reason why they didnt put those on celestial stats as well.
And just for your information, right now its not possible to craft any ascended keepers gear. While its possible to craft the ascended keepers zealot inscription and insignias, they forgot to add it to the list of stats to choose from when you learn a recipe for an asc armor piece or weapon.

It takes away from the event and holiday to be able to receive Wintersday gifts over a month past.
No. As with ANY event in the past, it is simply a cooling down period to be able to hand in the excess tokens people have acquired during the event. As this event lasted for quite a while, this is not simply a luxury, it’s a necessity. Additionally, people count on a gaming company to consistently apply its policies across events. I did, anyway, and I’m pretty sure thousands of other people did. Lastly, there was no warning whatsoever, as has ALWAYS been the case, that the exchange vendor would leave.
While Sonder still trades candy corn for cobs, he stopped trading skulls, fangs and nougat to their rare version when halloween was over.

Hmm, interesting find.
So the Exquisite Watchwork Sprocket is a new Rare level jewel? How does one acquire these? (I’m assuming they can be crafted from normal Sprockets.)
It’s a recipe that can be bought on the TP, and I assume it’s dropping in the Marionette boss encounter.
But like I said, I’m not sure it’s worth the investment. The “Go Zerk, or Go Home and Take Your Ball With You Crowd” are not likely to switch from “Power, Prec, Ferocity” to “Power, Prec, Healing”.
For some it might be a good alternative to knights to get power as main stat and switch toughness for healing power.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Just a little update, as Zealots recipes are now available as well on the tp, didnt get a drop myself yet. Not sure if there is a merchant that sells them even for sprockets (i hope not because i just bought alot recipes on the tp).
They function quite similar to celestial recipes, as you need not only the recipe for the inscription/insignia but also for each weapon armor piece.
They crafted product is account bound, so you will have to learn those recipes to craft your own stuff. They insignia/inscription requires 1 watchwork mechanism to craft.
The only difference to celestial crafting is that its not time gated and there seem to be a few recipes for armor boxes/satchels available on the tp.
Those recipes seem to drop as well, as they are not able to be made in the mf with a coat/crystals/wine/coins.

They were used to buy keys, for the coffer in Kessex Hills. As the coffer has vanished with the new patch, the keys and thus the spores aren’t needed.
Expect a huge price drop as a lot of speculators bought a lot of them. They are used in the new sigils and sharpening stone recipes… I highly doubt they won’t be used anymore…
Exactly. After the event was over, many people just sold their remaining spores because they didnt bother to get the recipes. Demand will be steady from the consumables and will rise when the balance patch hits in march and everybody needs new sigils and runes.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
simple logic…
Do you see people trading any single piece of equipment? most lvl 1-79 except with the recent silk fiasco Always had low demand.Even if it has any it just can t be controlled due to low demand.
At that point is easy to say few stuff is being successfully controlled on the TP….How do you think gold sellers make gold?
I don t see many farm not around since many months ago.P.S. no demand =/= low demand.
Epecially since the system is flawed by fake offers.
There are still many offers lower than NPC price.
Still your claim that 99% of all items have low demand is absurd.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
i would argue that nobody said that most attempts at controlling market failed….
Saying few are controlled successfully means most are not controlled.
Since 99% of items in game have 0 or really low demand..its fair to say most items are not controlled successfully even if it happened that most attempts at controlling market, succeeded.
I could link John Smiths answer to that topic but i am quite sure that you read it already.
I also wonder, where your impression (or data to back it up) comes from that 99% of all items on the trading post have basically no demand, as you stated several times on this forum.
Edit: I just checked your theory on spidy and took armor for example.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/type/0/-1/142?rarity_filter=-1&sort_offer_availability=asc
There are 148 pages of armor listed on spidy, containing 50 armor pieces each, so roughly 7400 different armor pieces.
If you sort them by demand ascending, the first 30 pages will contain armor with no demand, so 1500 pieces. As spidy also lists karma armor which is not tradeable (and therefore shows up with 0 supply/demand), we can neglect those. I went through all 30 pages to check items that had supply on the tp but no demand and counted roughly 350.
So we are looking at 6250 pieces of armor listed on the tp of which 350 are in no demand.
(350/6250)*100 is not 99%

Yeah just salvage them. I would advise you though to wait a bit and hope for a drop of Black Lion Salvage Kits from either a daily reward chest or map completion rewards, if you still do them. With a BLSK you are guaranteed to get the rune back, the mystic kit only gives you an 80% chance. Also make sure that the armor is actually salvageable by aktivating a salvage kit and hovering over the armor without clicking it. If it turns red, you cant salvage it, which is the case for armor bought with karma for example.

That weapon is the precursor for the legendary longbow that is why its so expensive.
If you want to sell it, keep in mind that you need 5% listing fee, so if you want to sell it for 500g, you need 25g to sell it.
Another 10% will be deducted, once it sells.

No. seasonal runes and sigils dont drop from the forge.
I think the general rule of thumb is that the rune or sigil must either be craftable through discovery (not through learning a recipe sheet, like rune of exuberance for example) or salvagable from open world exotic gear drops.

“2. Supply in peoples inventories/banks that is not for sale but could be listed at any time”
This is something that a lot of players forget (me included from time to time).
I was talking to a guildy yesterday in regards to controlling the market (I think over 6 of us have over 2000g) and he suggested Mystic Forge Conduits.
People easily look at the 13 or so quantity listed on the TP, but that is not the real supply. Conduits are forever tradeable and the only way they are removed from the economy is from players who have them that have quit for good. Cornerning the conduit market is expensive and even us alone would not be able to dent it (you would need 6 figures)
You always have to keep this supply side in mind. Even items such as silver/gold/plat ore. People are speculating heavy on this, and while they could very well be driven by demand in a patch in the future, keep in mind that the price can be pushed down by all the supply on-hand from other speculators.
That is also propably the reason why most attempts in controlling a market fail.
I would estimate that for most items, more than 90% of the supply isnt listed and half of that supply that is stored away is on inactive accounts. That doesnt make too much difference for high volume markets with short demand spikes, like cloth for example, because demand goes down again eventually but it makes a mayor difference in high value markets where the value came over time and no regular supply comes in, like the 2012 Halloween skins.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Inflation is determined by a general price index, which is generally a value over time of specific goods that are used by the majority of consumers on a daily basis. In order to accurately calculate inflation, one needs to decide on a grouping of products that are generally in demand and calculate the change in price over a period of time. This would exclude luxury items or outliers that the majority of people are not purchasing daily, like precursors.
I do not believe that players have done this so there isn’t currently a good estimation of what the inflation is within the GW2 economy. I would guess it has been done internally.
Would be nice to see a CPI (Consumer Price Index) though, doesnt matter if from a player or a dev.
I might look into it.

(edited by Wanze.8410)
When i read that istantly i thougt “hey but less than 1% of tp items are in any demand…i don t think people are interested in lvl 4 White pistols…”
This is an issue that should at least once be discussed in general section with him and other devs and players because is surely a concern appeared more than once in the CDI….
That is why we need really a discussion in general section with Smith AND other devs.
As i said more intervention like crystalline dst would keep the market fair…but they refuse and instead try to preserve greedy speculators warning then of changes and stuff.
First of all there is a viable market for lvl 4 white pistols, simply salvage it and sell the copper ore/green wood for a profit. Promotion into t2 wood and ore also yields the best ROI per skillpoint in the game.
Strangely i agree, though, with most of the rest of your comment. A separated CDI for the TP/crafting/economy, including John Smith and other devs is a good idea and i thought about that for a while now. The CDI was introduced for a better communication between devs and player base and even though i dont follow the CDI discussions very closely in the general, wvw or pvp forums, i think they made a big step forward over there.
The TP and Crafting forums dont get much feedback from the devs, unless its a gem store related issue. I give Anet the benefit of the doubt and believe them that they at least pay attention to these forums and I am aware that it is hard in John Smiths position to give any feedback to most issues/questions or rants on here.
He said that he usually doesnt comment on a question, if the right answer has already been given by another player in that topic or if he already gave that answer somewhere else in the past.
Personally, i dont mind that stance but i think for new players or regular players that dont spend much time on the TP/crafting forums, this isnt the best solution.
With a CDI separated from the General CDI, we might actually get a bit more done collectively for the benefit of the whole game.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
For me there are 3 different kinds of supply in general:
1. Supply listed on the Trading Post that is available for trade.
2. Supply in peoples inventories/banks that is not for sale but could be listed at any time
3. Generated supply, that flows into the economy, usually through drops and loot or crafting
For demand i would categorize 2 different ones:
1. real demand, meaning the item gets used after being bought, by equipping, consuming, crafting etc.
2. Artificial demand, meaning that the item gets bought because the buyer expects a price spike in the future
To be able to accurately judge supply and demand of an item you need alot of in game knowledge in general. Most crafting materials for example have a variety of ways they get introduced into the economy, gathering nodes, direct loot drops, salvaging, promoting or containers. The more you know about the droprate of an item or the ease or hardship of it being farmed, the better. A good way to start is always the wiki. If you type in chat: /wiki followed by a space and the name of the item, the wiki page for that item will pop up in your browser and most of them explain the different ways of acquisition.
As the TP only shows listed items up to 1000 in supply, you can check a website like gw2spidy.com to check how much are actually listed, if there are more than 1k.
That website also has all kinds of graphs you can look at to analyse the item further.
For demand its the same. First of all, you need to know for what the item is being used currently. Just check the wiki again and it will list all things you can do with it, not only in terms of crafting but also in the mystic forge. With your experience in game, this helps to establish why the price is currently very low or very high.
Then you also need to be up to date with what is coming in the future to know, if future demand for an item might rise due to a patch for example.
Hope that helps.

Its the only food that buffs Power and Crit damage at the same time, if we disregard the celestial starcakes. With the incoming ferocity changes, i can see this becoming way more popular. As it lasts 1 hours as well, this is still cheaper than lemongrass poulty soup, which is one of the most widely used foods in wvw.
You want the best buffs? You have to pay for it.
The profit is quite reasonable one these to craft but iirc, they also cost like 200 karma per piece.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
The issue with Gossamer is that there are no actual big “sinks” of it aside from getting a crafting discipline from 400 to 500 (and even for that, you don’t need more than 100 Bolts of Gossamer if you know what to make).
With Orichalcum is different because there are still some Mystic Forge weapons that require “250 Orichalcum Sword Hilts” or so to make, which is a HUGE sink even if only a few people actually make them.
IMHO that’s the reason why Orichalcum Ore is sitting firm at nearly 3s (clearly the price has decreased because people have already maxed their weaponcrafting disciplines), while Gossamer is dropping every day.
For Ori, there still is a sink to come with jeweling.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Sell listings keep rising in volume steadily which I would think indicates more supply coming in with a low demand. People still farm silk, so gossamer keeps on dropping along with it. It could go down even further, if demand stays the same.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Just about anything time limited will go up in price over time. How fast depends on how great the supply of the item was and how much demand there is afterwards. It’s a pretty kitten safe investment.
Absolutely right! Unfortunately, the item in question is still available through the weapon specialist.

Wouldn’t it be better for crafters if you could actually sell ascended weapons and gear to those of us who abhor the very idea that we have to waste time grinding materials and crafting?
What would it do to crafters to remove a whole lot more “account bound” tags?
That might be a welcome change for those who dont like to craft or grind but in the long run, i think it would do the general player base no good because it will be a major gold sink (due to high traffic on the tp, not only for the weapons itself but also for the mats involved)and also the base ingredients for weapons and armor would rise again just like before and after the last 2 crafting updates.
The demand for those ascended weapons and armor would be very high of course, if this would be introduced. To cover the high demand, not only for the players who actually buy it but also for the armor and weapons that will be listed at any given time on the tp, alot of t2-5 common mats (wood, ore, leather, cloth) will simply become very expensive, until the market finds its equilibrium again.
The strain on those t2-5 mats will hit immediately because alot of people still craft their timegated mats every day, without refining them, so the market will be flooded to an extend that those refined mats will be available under crafting value and people actually making a loss while spending their time gated mats. The same will happen to dragonite, bloodstone and empyreals or vision crystals all together and finally for the end product. And in the end, once the market found its equilibrium again, my guess would be that an ascended weapon would cost so much that you might as well buy a legendary.
tldr: what it boils down to, is that it just would have too big an impact on the overall economy to make this a welcome change for the majority of the player base.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Dont forget that they also intend to change the proc of alot of “on crit” sigils to “on hit”, not sure if for traits also.
That means that those dps focussed sigils will proc more often because it doesnt rely on a high precision.
And dont forget the extra sigil on 2h weapons that they will introduce, that can also add some dps.
So i could argue that the crit damage that you are likely to lose with this change, you can make up with a boost to direct or condi damage.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
I think the high demand and prices are intended, so new players that are leveling can earn a little more of those mats to keep up with end game players that have it easier to farm gold in general.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Here’s my issue: All of my characters are L400 crafters and all are maxed out for gaining crafting points by working with raw mats, the qtys and cost to create gems, jewels, sigils, runes at this level far exceeds the value of the created item, and there just aren’t enough items to discover to provide the needed boost to L450+.
Up to L400 a crafter can gain xp by working with raw mats and creating the needed sigils, gems, jewels, etc needed to discover and created arms/armor. But beyond L400, this model disappears and now becomes “yer on yer own, bud————goooood luck!”
Maybe this area needs a quick “looksee” and update?
They adressed this by resetting all lvl 400 recipes that you already learned, so they give discovery cxp again. You can also still refine t6 common mats and gain cxp until 425. Some runes and sigils are cheap to craft, some are a little more expensive but usually yield profit.

Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
First of all, i dont think Anets intention for craftable pre cursors was to get their price down but to give players a more linear way of acquiring them. For that to happen, they would mostly have to use account bound materials that you gather through a variety of gameplay. I wouldnt even be surprised, if they will need an item bought with glory this time.
If the prices for the pre cursors go down due to a cheap way to craft them, it will affect alot more markets, first of all, prices of rare weapons will tank, then ectos and t5 fine mats and t6 dust.
As long as crafted pre cursors will need alot of tradeable goods and trigger an imbalance in the economy, i wouldnt expect them to introduce them before summer.
John Smith had a lengthy blogpost last august about anticipated disequilibrium in many markets in the following months due to ascended crafting about to be released.
Now we all know that we got 2 mayor patches for crafting last year, in september and in December, while jeweler and cook didnt make it into 2013 and got delayed just like pre cursor crafting.
One reason why those didnt make it into 2013 is obviously that they didnt have enough time to implement it but i also think that they delayed them due to economical reasons. Ascended weapon and armorcrafting were huge gold sinks and shook up alot of markets. For weapons it was mostly the cost of leveling to 500 compared to the daily time gated crafted and the involved mats for armor.
I am sure that they made a pretty good internal preview about those patches and their impact on the economy and decided to delay jeweler and cook si we wont “have” to lvl 5 professions to 500 at the same time.
As those patches were 3 months apart, i expect the next patch for jeweler and cook to be available in the same time frame, so we are looking at a release in march, which would align with their plans to focus on 4 LS patches before taking a short break in March and then release a mayor content update, including those 2 professions and the balance patch at least.
If they release pre cursor crafting at the same time will rely upon if it will be a major gold (through tradeable goods) or time sink (through account bound goods).

Market manipulation is exploding right now. Certain items have had their demand increase by 2 million in a half a day. Once the new buy orders are established they retract their botted prices and recoup their costs, thus raising the floor for said items. I hope Anet looks into these botting accounts.
Putting in buy orders for 1c doesnt establish a new highest buy order.

What about making prestigious items tied to skill rather than gold and tp flipping?I think there should be more desirable items that are outside of the TP – that’s the real solution in my opinion, not trying to adjust the TP so players can’t get rich.
Skilled player should be rich and not tp barons at the expenses of skilled players…..
tp barons are skilled at the tp, so why shouldnt they make any gold off players that are not that skilled. I dont see a difference to selling arah paths.
Acquiring Ascended gear is way easier if you are a skilled player in many aspects of the game, same goes for legendaries or bound fractal skins/recipes.
If you give the best items as reward for the hardest challenges in game, you have to make them untradeable in order for less skilled players to have to earn them themselves. All the skillful players will start moaning over time because they got too much of these prestigious items and cant sell them on the tp, see ascended rings from fractals.

Charged Quartz Crystals also drop from Wintersday gifts, without a daily timegate.
Yeah, that was a bug and was removed by Anet.
As for the time gating, there’s no reason whatsoever to have it. It’s not like celestial is better than other stats so why time gate it?
They removed the bug that it always dropped charged quartz. Now they drop regular and charged quartz.

Just a question: where is the sense in spending tons of golds for jc when I can get ascended rings for free, trinkets and amulets with laurels are not so expensive, (and almost everyone already has those)? Will Anet put new ascended accessories (or more powerful)? Right now the only thing we cannot have are some ascended backs (like the cleric)…
Anet never confirmed that we will be crafting ascended trinkets at jeweler 500, so that is still speculation from the player base.
Whatever we craft at 500 however has nothing to do with what you will need to lvl from 400-500, unless Anet introduces new lvl 400 or 450 recipes.
Ascended Clerics backpieces are already available through Quiver of a Thousand Arrows and Yakkingtons Tale, btw.
