To be honest, Anet made more effort to incorporate GvGs in the last 6 months than i expected, they decreased the bloodlust boni and got us the arena in OS. Even though that arena gets trolled (during some matchups) it is a good addition.

Salvaging insignis & incriptions from exotics

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I do (salvage hundreds of each and every named exotic, that is)
I’ll give The Ugly Stick another try.
In the meantime, here is my list of named weapons that can drop inscriptions:
Atlatl, Dragonshot, Silence, Al’ir’aska, Shield of the Wing, Bramblethorn, Skybringer, Chalice of the Gods, Tinwail, The Malestrom, Dunn, Trosa’s Short Bow, Razorstone, Kevin, Drakestrike, Winged Spatha, Droknar’s Forgehammer, Jora’s Defender, Axiquiotl, Gearbore, Dragonfury, Vera, Infinite Wisdom, Handheld Disaster, Firelighter, Final Curse, Scorchrazor’s Fist, Remnant of Ascalon, Limitless Furnace, Alderune’s Last Stand, Malefacterym, Finn, Breath of Flame, Khrysaor the Golden Sword, Kenshi’s Wing

and insignia:
khilbron, vatlaaw, galrath, jatoro, errol, yakkington, reyna, jalis, tahlkora, galrath, vatlaaw, Jalis, Reyna, Errol, account-bound Armageddon armor (I get that last one in FoTM)

I started with a list of named exotics (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_named_weapons), selected the ones with the right stats, then bought several of each and salvaged them to test. then did the same with armor (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor)

There is a slightly more general list and table on the generic champ bag page http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Champion_loot_bag. I’ll see if I can pick out some “favorable” inscription salvage candidates that are not on your list to test.

I found that list :P ty. I never knew the reason, just that some exotics didn’t give inscriptions. For my purposes, I didn’t need to know why, so I didn’t look further. I think you’re on to something with the generalization of champ bag exotics not giving them. though it’s probably not the only reason some exotics don’t give inscriptions

Could it be that none of the named rabid/magi/etc. weapons salvage into the inscriptions? Has anyone successfully pulled an inscrip off of a named exotic?

This is not the case. the list above contains several rabid stats (alderune’s last stand, axiquiotl, bramblethorne, dragonfury, drakestrike, final curse, glint’s scale, kevin, lidless eye, malefacterym, titan’s vengance, trosa’s short bow, etc.). but no named exotics give magi inscription. The only named exotics I know of with magi stats are King’s Remembrance, Monsoon, Scepter of the Highborn – all of which are on my list of exotics that don’t give inscriptions.

I agree that it’s messed up that there are any that don’t give inscriptions when they should, especially since they didn’t say this could be the case when they announced that you could get them.

+1 for research and sharing.

Last time i checked (end of december) Light Miners Bags were highly profitable btw, due to the raised value of cloth. I got 3.67 Silver Doubloons per stack and selling the other mats that dropped for 1c under the lowest seller, i even made a little profit without considering the SD, so i basically got them for free. My ratio of 3.67 SD per stack is based on 16500 Light Miners Bags opened over the course of 7 months.

Level 21 is still not the best … you can get copper or silver. I never received a copper on my level 32 chest camper.

You might be thinking of level 20, where you might get a copper doubloon. I have 8 looters at 21 and have never gotten a copper in the last 4 months they have been harvesting.

I forged my Juggernaut when Silver Doubloons were at around 50s and was quite active in this topic to demonstrate that SD are available by other means than parking alts at jps.

Having 8 alts parked for this takes some dedication though and you get a plus1 from me. Even though I am strongly against this strategy for a reliable source of SD. Not your fault but Anets.

Just wondering who got the most.

Type /age and /deaths in chat.

Personally:

Died 7,216 times.

Played 3241 hours on this character, 3,400 hours over all characters.

This has to be from pvp, 2 deaths an hour in PvE over 3200 hours is unimaginable. Not even Valve testers could achieve such greatness.

I dont do pvp much. I got up to rank 15 but most of that progression was after i posted this. I do a decent amount of wvw but with over 40k kills to 7k deaths i am in in a decent ratio.

Personally i was quite astonished by my death ratio when i brought it up in guild chat.

You have played for an average of 9.55 hours a day for an entire year.

I played for more than a year which would bring my playtime per day down to about 6 hours while i was afk alot of the time. While i agree that 6 hours on average for 18 months is excessive, this is off topic and you raise the question even higher, why nobody has a higher ratio.

I know I’ve only died about 2200 times or so (and am at work now), so I guess I can’t win.

Unfortunately, again, I’m at work or I might plan the quickest way to automate (without macros/bots) suicide that I might surpass you before anyone else does. Now that I think about it, I wonder if it’s even possible. Best I can think of is clicking a WP in Rata Sum and holding down the forward walk button.

I mostly play only 1 character and it has been standing in front of the tp quite alot, so i am quite surprised that my death ratio was so high when i mentioned it in guild chat.

Some people might come out to troll and state that making money on the tp doesnt make you a better player and rightly so. It only makes you richer.

I still have the Dungeon Master Title, finished all jps and have world completion as well as over 40k kills in wvw. Slacking in Pvp though, with rank 15 or so.

How do some people have so much gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

By earning some capital the “layman” way (champion farming or dungeon running) then investing it into something, usually T6, Lodestones or event items.

When playing the TP on a short term basis, i look for at least 30% of profit or ROI within 24 hours or 300% of ROI, if i have to store the item.
Neither t6 mats or Lodestones appeal to me as they barely move 20% due to the velocity of the market. Event items are usually a good investment, if you know what you are doing and have the bank roll to wait for 3-6 months to cash in.

Wanze.8410

Ideally, an hour of play would provide roughly the same amount of gold equivalent, no matter what content you decide to tackle.

I think the failure of the economy, for individual players, in GW2 is that there are farming locations and routines that are so much more profitable for time spent that materialistically driven players become a slave to those repetitive grinds.

The game’s economy becomes balanced to those specific grinds, which makes other players feel their time spent playing is not considered equal. It also means that when a particular farming opportunity is nerfed, it doesn’t discourage farming, it just further limits the options of what and where to farm, further narrowing the scope of repetitive game play for those who get stuck in the farm/grind trap.

.

Idk how you managed to leave playing the tp out of there as farming, grinding, and regular playing are all fairly well balanced compaired to it.

For playing the TP you need to invest time and gold for the others you just need time.

mmh..yeah i can imagine that the Price of passifloras will rise in some ways..but in other Hand..most People will use fan based crafting guides. No crafting guide will ever say hey buy that expensive flowers to Level.
All other are around 2 to 4s. ruby is more worth because of berserk meta.

The Exquisite Passion Flower is still the second cheapest Exotic Jewel available, so its still cheaper to buy those than crafting your own Exquisite Sapphire Jewel for example.

I dont see the point to use the different Orbs to craft them into Exquisite Jewels yourself. As each Exquisite one needs only 1 Orb but also 1 Ecto and 2 Ori Ingots, the price for the orbs only makes up 4% of the crafting value.

No crafting guide would now suggest to craft your own jewels until there are no more of them available under crafting value.

Especially the Chrysocola Jewel is heavily undervalued due to its oversupply now through farming dungeon related trinkets.

The Silver Doubloon Debacle

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Allowing transmutation of Copper to Silver is still the best suggestion. Shifting to Platinum would kitten some people over (making their collections worthless), but allowing transmutation wouldn’t.

To those saying they spent lots on Juggy and making it easier would make it less special: the cost of Silver Doubloons has already fluctuated a huge amount. Back when I was collecting these Doubloons, they were around 30s a piece. Now, they’re way over 1g each. Does that mean one person’s Juggy is less special than another’s? No. Your Juggy is not defined by whether someone else can get one too.

It’s disproportionately expensive when compared with the other weapons, and it’s quite clear the Doubloons were not meant to be like this (Juggy still requires lodestones, after all, which are more clearly intended to be expensive mats).

Transmogrifying Copper to Silver Doubloons would be nothing more than a hotfix as i dont see how they are easier attainable than Silver Doubloons.

It can and it’s dirt cheap. There are over 6,000 on the TP.
http://www.gw2tp.com/item/43798-recipe-celestial-intricate-gossamer-insignia

6k doesnt seem all that much though, if you consider all the new accounts that got opened after the bazaar and might want to go for celestial, no matter if its exotic or ascended. I would by one now, while they are still available close to vendor price, considering supply went down from over 30k in the 6 months after the event. With propably another 6 months to go before the bazaar comes flying around again, these might get scarce before and we might see price rises just like the weapon recipes.

6k is not a lot but I wonder how many people have a bunch sitting around. I have 7 or 8 in storage and we have another 25 or so in the guild bank. Someone else posted in here earlier that they have an overflowing stack(I don’t see the post anymore).

Within a day supply went down to 4600.

I have to confess though that i am responsible for most of it.

I went through some old listings of mine and saw that i had 1000 of those listed from last summer at 10s and pulled them out. I still have another 2000k at 30s which i kept listed.

Still, 700 of them got sold within a day.

The nearly 5g cost are there regardless.

Good point but you are forgetting that you need to buy the recipes for each weapon/armor individually as well. if you check the prices on those, its not a cheap way to lvl.

in Crafting

We have 11 jewels, 1 just with rare recipes (when the zephyrites do not come back) and rare and expensive Azurites and passifloras.

Azurite will most likely be adressed in the same way as sentinel inscriptions and insignias.

Compared to all other orbs, passion flowers are expensive because they are also used in weapon and armor crafting, so they are basically used as a gemstone and a t6 mat.

The Exquisite Passion Flower however, which will be needed in exotic trinkets, is quite undervalued on the TP atm at around 40s.

40s dont even cover the costs for the ecto and ori ingots, let alone the 3g you would need for the 15 regular flowers to craft it.

So if you are interested in Settler trinkets, now would be a good time to stock up on those.

If you are wondering where the supply of those exquisite passion flowers comes from (because nobody would craft them for nearly 4g and then sell at 40s), they can be salvaged from the exotic settler trinkets that drop from mobs in SSC.

Those 3 trinkets are quite cheap too, so many people buy them for a cheap way to get dark matter.

I remember making alot of gold buying those trinkets by the hundreds last summer for around 20s and then salvaging for ectos and the flowers.

Quartz is in competition with other resources, it only comes from crystals.
The ascended trade-able items all use up a larger amount of other resources.

Quartz (both versions) also drops from wintersday gifts.

(…)

True, but it’s no substitution for anything (edit: by this I mean other T6 fine materials otherwise used in crafting). I only brought this up because I don’t think ascended materials and the quartz can be compared directly. If quartz would become tradable – do you think there might be at least an initial rush? Currently I am holding onto mine, but I likely have more then I’ll ever need.

I’m not necessarily against it but we may want to consider what can happen long term and short term with such a change (?).

If they make it tradeable, even if they keep the time gate, it would still be way under the crafting value of ~20s because there is so much excess of it in the economy.

During the first days of Wintersday, all gifts wrongly dropped charged crystals all the time, so there is a large surplus of it from there.

I opened 10k wintersday gifts during those days and iirc, i got like 450 charged crystals from it. I trashed one stack and kept the other.

500 Jeweler?

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

i like to live up this thread

I have no ideas what anet plans to let us do when we reach jeweler 500. Yes i hope for ascended trinkets with stats we cant actaully use like assassin or dire. Or with the decision to craft no ascended giver stats, to let us craft infusions with boon/condi Duration.

But i have ideas how to Level 500.
Actually everyone can imagine how easy and cheap it would be to master it. We have 11 jewels, 1 just with rare recipes (when the zephyrites do not come back) and rare and expensive Azurites and passifloras. So the most player only can use 8 jewels and discover 24 trinkets. Thats too boring for anet. I think we will see more.
What i have noticed is that we have no orbs or crests for Settler, Cavalier and Dire.
And no no upgrade components on exotic for trinkets for that three stats and Magi, Rabid, Shaman and Soldier.
Maybe we will be able to craft exotic back pieces with jeweler, when so we Need all stats too.

What i think or more suggest to anet is that they add crests for Settler, Cavalier and Dire Stats and give us the Option to upgrade the crests like orbs to exotic ones. So we have new activators for exotic trinkets.
So crests could be useful. When we look to the AH we can see a lot of unused crests that will never valuable.
That in mind People would do more JP´s for the chests where we can find this crests or just like me searchs for randoms chests in the world.

I think this could be a really good plan for anet. the most important for me is to see exotic rabid Upgrades, so i came to this ideas.

We didnt get much more info from Anet in the last month but meanwhile i saw alot of good and valid theories about it on the forums.

The missing stats are a possibility but that alone wouldnt attract enough people to lvl it to 500.
My guess would also be on Infusions/upgrade components, maybe even something in the way of rune sets, where you get special boni when you use 3 or 5 of the same infusion.

I also think that one reason why jeweller 500 didnt make it into 2013 was an economic one to give the market enough time after ascended armor crafting to relax again. Even though jeweller doesnt share too much mats with armorcrafting, it would have been too much of an additional gold sink for many casual players to be released in December or January as well.
As i personally invested alot in mats for jewelling last year, i wasnt too happy about their news to delay it until this year but i think it was the right decision for the economy, even though it means i have to store my stuff for a couple of more months.

John Smith said on several occasions that one focus for the economy is to make groups of items and materials that have been sitting on the tp close to vendor value more valuable and establish a player driven market for those items.

Blue and Green gear got value now through essences of luck and both major crafting updates adressed several crafting materials, most notably silk and lower tier cloth.

Thats why i am sure that also jeweler will revive some markets, most notably the ores needed for the Xunlai Eletrum Ingot and the various tier3-6 gemstones. Tier 1 and 2 of those gemstones actually have a reasonable value through Silver Doubloons. Lower tier Dust is also a market they could shift and with a slot for Crystalline Ore and Ingots in your collectible tab, i can see those ingots being made to be used alongside the Electrum Ingot for lvl 500 crafting and needing all those groups of mats in the process.

It can and it’s dirt cheap. There are over 6,000 on the TP.

Market Intervention - Leather

I caved and filled-up the guild vault with leather, but… the profit margins probably aren’t even worth the effort. If ANet wants to (eventually) balance the value of leather, then Hardened Leather @ 1-2s/scrap would probably be worth it, but I keep getting urges to just vendor the Thick. Maybe old habits die hard. :-)

It’s absolutely not worth it if you are filling it in the guild bank with T5.

The profit you could get from leather is not worth the bank slot. Stick with T6.

As mentioned, T5 is only recommended if you have an alt account that uses the TP as storage.

I am pretty sure that any big future leather sink will be funneled through Elonian Leather Squares. As those are available right now under crafting price, i would suggest to invest some gold into those, if you have storage concerns or if it takes too much time to fill your buy orders until you have all your gold invested.

Their price will be pretty close tied to the value of t2-5 leather, so its a safe bet, if you want to invest in non-t6 leather in general.

Versatile Infusions could also easily cost you beyond 100 gold.
I would also rather pay 20g to transfer my Utility Infusion instead of paying 20 Laurels for new one.

I often buy components when they no longer give XP and it’s more of a bother to refine raw materials, then craft components, then make the finished product to give an XP boost to an alt. Insignia/inscriptions especially – depending on the demand for the raw mats involved, it can be a lot cheaper to buy masterwork (or better) insignia already made than to buy 48 scales or something just to craft a handful of items.

I guess you bought some masterwork insignias from the OP. Now he complains because you got the better end of the bargain. Its all your fault.

Oh, it’s just phase 347 of my 1255-phase plan to completely dominate the TP and gain the coveted membership in [HATS].

I cant possibly compute numbers of such high value, therefore i dont know what you are talking about.

Looking at the data:
Link
The demand is slowly falling down because it takes on average about a month to craft ascended armor. With many already completing the task, they have to need for excess they bought, therefore unloading extra supplies on the Trading Post. I think we’ll starting to see the balancing coming into place after the initial rush.

Basically this^^^

And if you check the graph on spidy, its a text book example of how a market finds its equilibrium again.

While supply:demand ratio was at 1:3 around patch day 5 weeks ago, it was 1:1 on friday with supply now higher than demand.

Price will go down until we get relevant news about future updates.

And say no to people who are obviously trying to influence markets in which they have a stake (or steak, it’s more appropriate).

Everytime you buy or sell an item on the tp, you directly influence its market.
You influence it more, if you buy or sell alot of it.

On one side, players ask here in these forums, which items to invest in, in order to make profit in a month or three. If more experienced people actually decide to give some constructive feedback, tell things to invest in and also say why they think its a good idea, its actually frowned upon because those people already have a stake in it.

I always try to invest into items that i think will give me 300-500% profit margins within a couple of months. Once im done stocking up, i can either wait until the demand rises (through an upcoming patch or change of game meta), or i will share my tips with others, so they are prepared and can also stock up, thereby creating an artificial demand because the item isnt actually needed yet.

I dont see the problem in advertising your own investment, especially if you provide good info, why you think that the demand will rise.

My investment tip for now?

Anyways, i think adding a new dye takes quite some time and effort to make it work with all the armor….

I guess this would be bad time to remind you that Anet adds new dyes with almost every living story?

“So much for my patient collecting work.”

I dont see where your patient collection work gets influenced in a bad way just because someone bought up half the stock of coriander. Quite the opposite.

Yeah, I’ve got a nice profit but I wanted a whole lot more than what I’ve got, before the price moved. Someone just bought up half the stock on the TP. This news will get around fast.

They added 4 special dye sets in 16 months, thats far from almost every living story.

And if you wanted a whole lot more before the price moved, you should have bought them, if it wasnt you in the first place, who bought half the supply.

For example, if mithril greatsword blades and hilts are selling for 25% more than the cost of the mithril ore used to make them, then buy as much ore as you can afford and craft components, then sell the components to make money. If you make them into swords and try to sell the swords, the cost of the inscriptions will push your expenses too high and you will lose money.

I’ve had luck crafting insignia, inscription, and other parts instead of finished product. I think some folks buy the parts to have their guild mates craft specific items for them.

I often buy components when they no longer give XP and it’s more of a bother to refine raw materials, then craft components, then make the finished product to give an XP boost to an alt.
