Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Achievements: Are you going to change the Map Completion to remove the requirement of WvW?
”We currently have no plans to do this. We’ve been doing a lot of work lately to try and bring our three core game types: PvP, WvW, and PvE more together in their systems of progression, rewards, and unlocking to try and give the game more of a sense of everything you do ties back into the growth of your character. We feel like WvW is a really good middle-ground between PvE and PvP and want to encourage people to think of the mists as part of our world they should explore and experience, we might consider adding the PvP lobby to world exploration for future characters for example to help give more incentive to visit there as well.
That being said, we’re always looking at the systems and features we have in place, and as you’ve seen since we launched if we find something we think is better, we’re not shy about replacing a current system if we find something better for the players, but accomplishes our same goals. Our over-all goal is to encourage all players to experience WvW, to have goals that keep them there long enough they might fall in love with it and take that on as a separate game time; should we find other ways that are as effective as we’ve seen world complete is for encouraging play there to see the different maps, that is just as easy to understand and uses existing systems like world complete, we’ll certainly consider them. It’s something fun to brainstorm on our forums and see what kind of ideas players might!” ~Colin Johanson

A hundred stacks of Ascended Mats.

Ascended mats were a bonus to champ bags to accommodate the rising need for ascended crafting. Riding the champ train is not considered regular gameplay and by doing this extensively, you will aquire more mats than intended for the regular game player.
If it clogs up your inventory because it is not tradeable its not the economies fault but your own due to excessive gameplay. Just delete it, if you run out of space.

I can’t remember doing any champ train in the last few months yet here I am with an inventory full of bloodstone dust and empyreal fragments. Just deleting it doesn’t cut it as I mentioned in my previous post. We don’t know whether they will become useful in the future.

I’m not sure if you’re fully aware of the meaning of economy, but there is no economy involved with ascended materials because they can’t be exchanged. Perhaps if they could be exchanged, even only by vendor, it would take off some of the pressure.

The developers did not calculate the droprate correctly or they have something in store for us to use the ascended materials in the near future. Either way, the current situation is far from favorable.

I am fully aware of the meaning of economy and at least for Bloodstone they already adressed that issue.

In the last 2 months they introduced 16 different recipes that make use of bloodstone dust.

The 8 different ascended backpieces were designed so people dont need mist essence and hold no monetary value but the 3 nourishments give you decent profit, especially with the toxic spore samples constantly rising in price.

And while the 5 new endless wintersday tonics are account bound, you still have the choice to gamble them at the mystic forge for a chance to get the Endless Toymakers Tonic or Endless Gift Dolyak Tonic. If they didnt change those to account or soulbound on acquire, they are still tradeable on the tp.

Even for the Brick they introduced a new recipe with the toxic krait tonic.

Someone discovered Coriander Seeds

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There has been a lot of speculation about ascended cooking, but the one thing that makes perfect sense is a new level of recipes for unidentified dyes. I’ve been slowly accumulating coriander seeds because basically there aren’t any on the trading post.

They are used for unidentified rare gray dye recipes. If Anet follows the usual formula for Exotic gray dyes, there isn’t enough Coriander on the trading post for even 250 dyes.

It looks like someone noticed. The price is up almost 50% in the last hour.

So much for my patient collecting work.

They might be adding new dyes but i doubt they will add another tier of unidentified crafted dyes.

If they just go for colors, they have to add 8 new ones to give 1 new to each color set, which would make the rng of getting that 1 exotic dye from an unidentified exotic dye pretty bad.

So i think, if they add exotic dyes by color, they will be able to be crafted directly, you will need another kind of ascended mat and they will be account bound.

It could also be that the new dyes add an armor effect rather than a new color and its ingredients will focus on the rare crafting mats.

Anyways, i think adding a new dye takes quite some time and effort to make it work with all the armor and as dyes are only the side product of the chef profession, i doubt that they will put much effort in it and focus on food.

“So much for my patient collecting work.”

I dont see where your patient collection work gets influenced in a bad way just because someone bought up half the stock of coriander. Quite the opposite.

While there are high profit margins on the tp, its up to you to find those markets. That will require tons of research and patience as well as quite some bank roll. Once profitable markets are listed either here or on reddit, you can basically forget about making any profit on them.

I’m curious to see how the JC market transforms when the ores are finally needed — especially with players stockpiling for months.

For long-term investments, limited-time items (e.g., skins) would probably be the safest gamble, but nothing that may reoccur (e.g., seasonal). Anything craft-related is extremely volatile, and can easily change in any patch. It can change for better or worse, of course, but that’s not quite “safe”. ;P

Just like the market for weapon skins can break down in an instant because they make a sale.

I thought i hit the jackpot when shadow of grenth required 10 glacial lodestones but it didnt make a dent into its value.

I expect that’s because the Shadow of Grenth backpiece is considered “ugly” compared to the Light of Dwayna one. I see plenty of players around with the Dwayna backpiece, but hardly anyone with the Grenth version.

As for recommendations, I’m currently stockpiling Silver/Gold/Platinum and all manner of gems in preparation for r500 Jeweler. Not for resale (I’m not much of a speculator), but for my own future use. Crystals and T5 Dust may also be worth looking at since they can be promoted to Orbs and might be worthwhile if the price of Orbs skyrockets. (Personally I have lots of Crystals from doing JPs on level 80 characters though, so bear in mind that other players may similarly have large hoards of Crystals.)

As Light of Dwayna requires 7 Charged Lodestones compared to 10 Glacials for Shadow of Grenth, its introduction didnt put a dent into Charged Lodestone prices either.

At times, it seems as if the rest of the game is designed to meet the needs of the trading post, rather than the trading post being designed to meet the needs of the game and all the many other activities that it encompasses. I think that is something worth discussing.

You made alot of good points in your post, so kudos for that. I snipped most of it to reply to your last statement, which i disagree with and would like to discuss.

It is always mentioned that the upper 10% of the wealth chain control a big bargain of the market/tp and that is not true. I think i am on the upper 10% (without botting) and i can assure you that is quite hard to control a market. You will never get rich in daily flipping daily commodities like silk or linen or orichalcum.
You just need a good degree of knowledge of the game to find markets that are profitable before anybody else does. So while its easy for regular players to blame “tp flippers” to increase the value of common items, most of the time its just the economy of tens of thousands regular players coming to a consent of value.

For the longest time I’ve also been telling people to stock up on crystals/orbs. Time is running out on these ones, however, and it’s been quite awhile since they have been near vendor price (they now trade from 1c-30c off vendor price).
http://imgur.com/a/Tx0R9

I also stocked up on crystals/orbs right after ascended weapons got introduced but i think gold/silver/platinum will be the better investment.

Orbs might rise in price and were a safe investment anyways if you bought at vendor price but i am not so sure about the lower tier crystals. Lower tier might rise a bit as well, if orbs rise high enough to make promotion profitable but i doubt it.

Demand for those can only be created, if alot of people start leveling jeweling from 0-400 and I am not sure how much ascended weapon/armor crafting raised the average prices of t2-5 fine crafting mats (claws, bloods etc.).

Gold/Silver/Platinum however will be used on a daily basis after everybody hit 500 to craft xunlai electrum ingots. So i think the potential profit will be higher on ore than jewels.

My rationale behind investing in crystals/orbs is not due to acended trinket crafting (although I would welcome it), but due to legendary trinkets, especially the backpiece which Colin hinted at awhile back.

John Smith is always looking for opportunity to correct broken markets. He did it with silk, and I’m sure he will do work on orbs/crystals and leather.

My ideal scenario is that legendary backpieces will come out and will require all 8 orb types to make two gifts (similar to the T6 gifts). And hopefully it will also require leather hides (it is a backpiece after all) to make a component.

The gift of metal/wood comparison to the 8 regular orbs is intriguing, i give you that.

It all comes down to what jeweller 500 will give us. As Ascended Trinkets are available through other means, i also wonder what they will introduce.

Infusions, which was my first guess last year, were mostly covered with the Fractured! Patch on Dec. 10th.

Legendary Trinkets or a backpiece seem logical to me as well but as they put the 2 craftable ascended backpieces Shadow of Grenth and Light of Dwayna into the armorsmithing category, i doubt that it would be backpieces that will need jewels for the gifts.

Legendary trinkets would make more sense, as ascended ones are already available.
It also is way harder to lvl jewelling from 400-500 as there are only 3 trinkets to discover compared to 6 for armors and even more for weapons depending on profession. This will put more demand on the different orbs as you need 6 different stats to discover 18 different trinkets compared to only 3 different stats for 6 each armor pieces or 2 stats for 9 different weaponsmithing weapons.

The recipe is on the wiki is wrong, you need shimmering dust (tier 2) to upgrade common t1 mats to t2 (it is stated right for bolts on the website).

In general it is also more profitable to promote refined common mats because the price for the 5 dusts you need for each promotion gets halved. For tier 1 promotion this rebate is trivial though at under 1% of the overall value of the promotion but it is essential for at least t5-6.

Apart from ore and jewels for ascending jeweling you might want to consider Exquisite Chrysocola Orbs, which are crafted, so they dont go into your collectors tab.

The Exquisite Jewels are basically the equivalent of inscriptions/insignias and will be needed to level to 500.

As Exquisite jewels need 1 ecto and 2 ori ingots to craft, their crafting price will pretty much be stable for the coming months around 50 silver.

However, there is a huge surplus of supply coming in for months now ( i know from where but wont disclose this here) so right now they hover around 8-12 silver.

Their price might even drop more but i am sure that it will rise close to crafting cost with jeweller500.

And we need a 100 more. This is a great suggestion, and we should let ourselves be heard. I’m always short on Crystalline Dust, that material hardly drops at all… yet you need it for a bazillion recipes. The number of recipes a material is used in, should be balanced by the availability of that material. And seeing as we are lacking a decent drop rate for this material, allow us to craft it with all those stacks of useless, unsellable ascended crafting materials.

While i agree that t6 dust doesnt seem to drop as much as other t6 mats, they adressed that with making ectos salvagable into dust.

27k is just 104 stacks of buy orders which can be posted in under 1 minute as for buy orders, you can actually place multiple stack orders if you click fast enough before the amount and price resets again.

For Red Meat it means that you can use it at the start (lvl 0) as a Chef but you need lvl 25 profficiency in Artificer to make potions out of it. It doesnt matter at what lvl you are in that profession personally for this to show up in the tolltip of the material, only if you want to craft with it.

Personally i also think that most of the supply of silk that was bought up prior to patch is already gone. Most of it went into promoting it into gossamer until everybody realized that we dont need that much gossamer.

Those who had large stocks of silk, already sold it back into the market and now the demand is just higher than supply so prices arent going down yet.

I doubt that there are people with thousands of silk still waiting to sell it.

Its one use only. IF you want the st<yle on another armor, you have to use a transmutation stone/crystal.

Might be the legendary Kraitkin. For the gift of Kraitkin.

Some Superior Sigils are used to craft gifts for Legendary Weapons.

Going by the name, my guess would be that it is used with the pre cursor Venom to craft Kraitkin, the legendary Trident.

Royal Terrace Pass sale

Does clicking on the royal pass object waypoint you to the royal terrace? I believe the temporary one did that from what I read about it but I never had one. In the description it just says “provides access”. It would be a nice additional feature to save that 10 times a day wp cost to la.

Going into WvW and using the asura gate right there also bypasses the LA WP cost.

Thats one more loading screen and inconvenient for some.

Salvaging insignis & incriptions from exotics

Wanze.8410

some real-world examples:
https://tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net/search?text=&type=0&rarity=5&levelmin=0&levelmax=80
(you need to go to https://tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net/authenticate first)
sort by price, start at ones with sell listings:
1) Cleric’s Exalted Masque 70s (NO insignia)
2) Berserker’s Duelist Mask of Strength 74s (YES insignia)

34) Giver’s Draconic Coat 77s (NO insignia)
35) Giver’s Emblazoned Helm 77s (NO insignia)
36) Carrion Pit Fighter Gauntlets of the Afflicted 77s (YES insignia)

76) Magi’s Exalted mantle 78s (NO insignia)
79) Magi’s Draconic Boots 78s (NO insignia)
98) Magi’s Emblazoned Gloves 78s (NO insignia)
100) Magi’s Draconic Helm 78s (NO insignia)
110) Magi’s Exalted Gloves 78s (NO insignia)

so, yeah. the first many magi’s items would not give insignia

ACTUALLY
I added the search term “Magi’s” and it returned 18 items; all crafted. apparently there are no exotics with “Magi’s” prefix that can drop in the wild.
there are no named armor sets with magi stats either… is the only source of magi insignia from dungeon armor? (dungeons with magi armor: AC, TA, HotW)

I should point out that most of those others in the top-100 list probably would give a profit if salvaged – just not magi’s. BLSK is about 1g per use + 77s to buy item, 61% chance of getting insignia = if you get 2.9g back from selling everything salvaging gives you you break even. insignia sells for maybe 3.2g + ectos sell for around 61s = 3.2g after tax = 30s profit. of course, this depends entirely on the sale price of the insignia

Neither Berserker (nr. 2) nor Carrion (nr.36) Insignias (or Incriptions) are salvageable from any kind of gear as Zerker and Carrion are craftable.

Will there be future silk changes?

in Crafting

I guess I’ll just keep wasting storage space on scraps instead of bolts. I don’t trust things not to change based upon previous experience in GW2.

EDIT: however saying “it won’t change” in this case would provide stability instead of shock, don’t you agree? In fact, not saying anything may actually be worse…

Has there been a sudden change in the past for quantities required for refinement?

About 2 months ago they changed the requirement for 1 bolt of silk from 2 to 3 scraps.

Ascended Armour & Linen vs Gossamer

Wanze.8410

Idk if they are going to do anything with goss. 2s isn’t THAT bad. It’s not like it’s at NPC price or anything.

I sympathize with the silk problem from both POV’s. I’m sure dev’s saw there was too much t5 leather/silk. Raising up leather to 3 didn’t do very much with ascended weapon crafting, but they couldn’t really go back and increase the leather requirements again so soon (well they could, but it would cause even more drama). So IMO they tried to learn from that and suck out more silk with ascended armor, but they may have gone a bit too far. We’ll have to see how it pans out in the long run. I don’t know where it’ll eventually settle down to after this initial first set rush.

From the player’s POV everything until then had been 50 refined t5/day. The sudden increase to 100/day was out of left field.

So yea I can def see how it would feel like you’re paying for previous mistakes.

I think Anet just didnt anticipate that people used alot of the supply of Silk pre patch to promote to Gossamer. Now we are stuck with not enough silk and too much gossamer.

We all blame you for this personally.

I have other ways to spend my skillpoints that have a far higher ROI than t5 promotion.

PSA upgrading linen->wool is pretty good for now if you want something that’ll sell quick.
