So I may have found a possible reason that quartz is time gated: It makes it difficult for traders to manipulate it on the TP — if you can only use 25 quartz a day, buying up all the stock is not going to impact the market as much. Although I think this is true only if there’s sufficient supply to meet the 25 per day demand. Anyway, it’s a stretch and I can’t even claim it as my idea (it’s based upon a topic in the BLTC forums).

I think the time gating of quartz and charged quartz, as well the different crafting model of celestial gear in which you need a separate recipe for the inscription/insignia as well as for the weapon/armor piece was just introduced as testing phase for ascended crafting.

Dand.8231, they already stated that they felt exotics were too easy to get and that they wanted ascended to be a mid-range yet longer term goal, with legendary being the longest term goal. You can discount drops all you want, but it’s still a means of acquisition. And your whole math bit discounts the part where we get a choice with the current weapon box drops.

If they give trinkets crafting, then I’d ask for weapons and armor to have a token system to match. But so far it’s been tokens/drops or craft/drops – no reason to expect different with armor.

Lastly, “play your own way” does not translate to “do whatever you want and everyone gets everything”. You can play every aspect of this game in lower tier gear (most even naked), and while doing so you gain means to get the better gear. Just because it doesn’t flat out give you the gear, doesn’t mean you’re not getting it, you just have to put some thought and effort in to it.

You seem to think I want to be able to run around naked in starter zones, auto-attacking ambient mobs, spamming the chat channels and expect to be given ascended armor. THAT’S NOT WHAT I’M SAYING. I just want different and alternate means of acquisition besides crafting and RNG drops.

As I’ve stated, with Exotics, there are multiple ways to acquire. I’m not speaking about the ease of acquisition, just the variety of methods.

Consider this; Exotics are fairly easy to get. If they wanted to make exotics three times as difficult to acquire, they could simply triple the dungeon token cost, triple the mats to craft each one, etc.

But if you removed all methods of getting exotics except dungeon runs, it wouldn’t make getting exotics via dungeon runs harder, it’d just mean you’d be forced to do them instead of being able to, say, craft them. And if you hate dungeon runs but love crafting, you probably wouldn’t be too happy.

The TL;DR version is this: Variety =/= Difficulty. I don’t mind if ascended are difficult, require work, time, thought, and effort. I just don’t want them gated behind Crafting and RNG drops.

So you want them to be available for lets say:

1 Million Karma or 100 laurels or 50 Guild Commendations or 10k Badges of Honor?

Its not confirmed that those items will be used for pre cursor scavenger hunt/crafting.

As gilded and intricate snowflakes are low level (20 and 35) upgrade components crafted from glittering and delicate snowflakes, my guess would be that somebody made a bad call.

The supply stayed more or less the same before and after the price spike, indicating someone bought up all or the majority of the supply on the tp and immediately relisted them at high prices not considering that those upgrade components can still be crafted for under 30 silver at current tp prices.

If the culprit really wanted to monopolize the market on those items, he should have bought up the supply of glittering and delicate snowflakes as well.

Candy Corn got much overvalued in the build up to Halloween, which is the biggest problem. While they are easily to store now in candy corn cobs, the cobs are pretty much useless and oversupplied.
As the price of cobs is tied to the price of candy corn by the factor of 1000, the 20 slot bag and Mini that you can exchange for them are pretty much overpriced.

The only other use for cobs is for the recipes of Gift of Souls/Moon/Spiders.
As you cant exchange regular nougat/skulls/plastic fangs for the exotic versions anymore, the amount of recipes that still can be produced, is hard capped by the supply of those items, which is far less than the supply of cobs.

Personally I think they should all be tradeable. Half the fun of collecting minis in GW1 was trying to find people willing to sell the ones you missed out on when they were originally available.

With the exception of the HoM ones because you can get an infinite number of them and it’d be unfair if people could just keep selling them.

Just check the tool tip of the mini and if it says account bound, you cant sell it.

The 5% listing fee and 10% sales tax are calculated from the sell price, not your win margin of flipping the item.

What we learned is that now there is only 10% of the supply of candy corn on the TP compared to 6 months ago.

That is no surprise as you now can basically store 250k candy corn in 1 inventory slot, if you convert them into cobs.

The question is, will the demand be higher in the next 12 months for regular candy corn or the cobs?

There is plenty of gold to be made with trading of this years Halloween items but i dont think it will be either one of those 2.

I would say that with the cost measured in Guild tokens (a time-gated currency), Settlers armor is time-gated. Unless by some miracle your server rises up and smites all Karkadom simultaneously and you happen to be in Southsun Cove to see it…

I would like to add to this: you can get the Sentinel’s Insignia recipe as drop from the Queen Karka event.

No, what you are talking about is the recipe for the Settlers Exotic Inscription.

Its not lost forever as you learned it on that character that consumed it.
If you meet the crafting level requirements, you can craft the recipe.

As crafting advancement is also character bound (only the achievements are account bound), I think its logical that the recipes are also.

To my understanding no recipe sheets exist for sentinel gear, they are all learned through discovery.

So, 800 salvages and not a single return of 4 or 5 ectos (I looked for it Every. Single. Time.) It would be very rare indeed if it were possible.

I salvaged close to 5000 exotic trinkets while checking my ecto refunds. While your average refunds of ectos are pretty accurate, 4-5 ecto salvages still drop in my opinion. And even if they dont, they wont influence the rng data as i said before.

At this time, I wouldnt speculate anymore on ascended armor crafting, or even jeweller. That market is saturated for months now. Cooking might still give you some value if youre smart, but in general it wont.

About 2 months ago I tried to make a point to Anet, that reaching lvl 500 in weaponsmithing doesnt require crafting any exotics and i made my point, at least to myself.

Also the new consumable recipes, requiring toxic spores, have a lvl of 450, so they have potential to make profit.

Selling ascended mats that require account bound mats to craft, raises the same question as using skill point recipes in the mystic forge.

Its because Celestial Ele Builds are the most common and shared, with guard builds a close second.

Personally, i got celestial builds for my warrior for pve and wvw and i am sure there is a niche celestial build for any class.

Right now, though, i would discourage you from trading with celestial recipes or buying any for personal use for celestial armor, until ascended armorcrafting gets released. If they release a seperate recipe for the ascended piece that doesnt require the exotic equivalent, the prices for the exotic recipes will drop.

To explain it again, there are plenty of reliable ways to acquire full sets of BiS gear. Crafting is one. But there’s also WvW badges, any one of a dozen different dungeons, fractals, laurels, guild commendations… heck, you can buy some of it on the Trading Post.

For Ascended weapons… it’s RNG drops, which are not a reliable means or Crafting.

And as a matter of fact, ANet devs DID say in a past interview they want people to be able to acquire top-tier gear by playing their own way, even if it’s not the most efficient way to do so.

RNG is pretty reliable, once the average rate has been established.

Oh I’m well aware of gw2spidy, I just want the information to be more easily available and more detailed. The Average Listing Age would help users to quickly spot price spikes without the need to use an outside resource.

If you use gw2spidy on a general basis and use its watchlist feature, its very easy and you can even do it whitout being in game.
The average listing age would not give you much more hints because you will still need more info on the velocity of the item on the tp.
Items traded in high volume on the tp arent as prone to price changes as much as items with a low supply count.

Recently? There’s some speculation that the upper limit got reduced from 5 – 3 in a recent (last month or two) patch, but you probably already knew that, fellow BLTC forum visitor.

I got 4 ectos in september the last time and 5 ectos some time in spring the last time.

Thats why i think its not a myth, like mentioned by somebody else, as i wouldnt think that Anet would stealth nerf it and i didnt see any patch notes relating to that as well.

I also dont see a reason for them to stealth nerf it as well. Its extremely rare to get 4 or 5 ectos and in the end, only the average salvage rate matters.

If you dont want to participate, dont use the TP.

With upcoming ascended armor crafting, I am not seeing how we will be able to craft rabid gear. I have seen no way to craft rabid gossamer insignias. Guessing I am missing something but I am kind of concerned at the moment

If ascended armor crafting follows the same structure as weapon crafting, the Insignias which arent craftable, will be able to be salvaged from non-crafted Exotic Armor with the corresponding stats. So if you want to get a head start, try to get your hands on some Exotic armor with Rabid stats (maybe from dungeon tokens or one of the named armor sets) and salvage them after ascended armor crafting is live.

There’s a good chance that anyone who cares is already aware, but it looks like someone bought up all the molten jetpacks to try and raise the price. There were six available at around 250g, then 0, then 3 at 750g. I don’t really care about the manipulation; I was just wondering what’s the best course of action for the people who still do have supply left?

-Should you try and undercut him knowing that the buyer still has up to 3 left?
-Should you price it a couple hundred gold lower but still above the previous price in the hope that he buys yours too?
-Should you just wait until that price becomes the new standard and sit on yours a little longer?
-Or something else entirely?

I don’t have the power to affect anything that’s going on here. I just wanted to open this up as a case study and get some advice from the trading post gurus here.

Price manipulation is such a hard word often used by people for this kind of actions.
I think price stimulation is a better description because a single person can never fully monopolize a market and the jetpack is a good example.

Whoever bought those up can fully claim that he bought all available supply at that point and thats about it. That person has no control over people actually buying for his asking price and has no idea about the supply of the item that is currently not listed on the TP so he is prone to undercutting by people like you that still have it in their bank. So takes a huge risk to actually never sell any of his skins at his desired price and paying fees for relisting them at lower prices.
Usually those manipulations or stimulations yield profit for the initiator more often than not but he also takes the biggest gamble compared to people like you, who have one item in their bank and just wait for an opportunity like this to make a good profit.

Concerning Skins we learned one think during Halloween, as it was the first reoccuring event in GW2: Old Skins (like the ones from Halloween 2013) arent likely to be reintroduced again and i doubt that the jetpack will come back.

We have all seen how far some of the weapon skins from last Halloween rose in price (~1000G) and even some of the Shoulder Skins went between 50-100G.

I already mentioned that the supply on the TP doesnt factor in the supply in peoples bank or inventory. I suspect more than 90% of the supplyof all items that have less than 100 listings on the TP still be hoarded by people to sell for profit.

Concerning the Jetpack for example, I would really like to know how many actually got introduced during the Molten Facility LS and how much of those have been soulbound already and how much are still tradeable. I am sure that John Smith has ways to look that up and would never publish those numbers as it is inside information.

It would also be interesting to see how often a jetpack was sold on the TP before it actually got used by someone.

But in general reply to your OP, I would suggest to observe the market for a bit longer, maybe one or 2 weeks.

While opening this topic, you made alot of people aware of the issue and can expect more people to undercut. If you can spare the 25g to list at 500g, go for it, its 250g more than last week.

If you’re leveling an alt: do the Queensdale champ train and salvage everything. You’ll get levels, karma, luck, and crafting materials.

If you need iron and soft wood and your alt is really low level: save the bags until they are at iron/wood levels and open them then.

Actually: the champ bags are account bound so you may be able to keep an alt at around level 30 permanently to serve as a bag opener (this should work, I think).

The content of the various loot bags doesnt depend on the level of the character that opens them but their prefix, Tiny, Small, Light, Medium, Large and Heavy, from tier 1-6.

I’m sure that many of us are simply ignorant of what true equilibrium prices are. If we can work together to balance the most plentiful markets I’m sure the other markets will be reigned in also.

The equilibrium is set by the player base and not JS, so the “correct” price is fluctuating. What you are suggesting is a socialistic economy for the game instead of a capitalistic economy.
