Forcing a minimum increment to the bids would just make it easier to manipulate the market.

This was explained years ago in the old black lion trading forums here.

For me, it’s hard to grasp getting Dawn from 3 random Exotics and a Mystic Stone. Several months ago, I was dumping random Exotic weapons and ended up with Venom, but that was after a bunch of tries. I’m thinking that maybe it was due to me using expensive Exotics? Genesis is quite pricey… Or it could be that I used Exotics with skins I didn’t discover?

I don’t have enough spare Exotic weapons to test this out, so I was hoping for others with valid claims from people not using their Beta slots (i.e. pix).

The chance to get a pre from exotics is the same at every try (about 0.7% according to research). It doesnt matter if:

  • you use a mystic stone with 3 exotics
  • you use named exotics or not
  • you use level 75-79 exotics or lvl 80
  • you unlock a skin through the forge attempt
  • you forge in the morning or during prime time
  • you use a low level character or level 80

On the forums and on Reddit, people everywhere are talking about how many Precursors they’ve been getting on their Beta slots. Well, I decided to test out my RNG luck for myself, and dumped the following:

Genesis x 1
Combustion x 1
Random Exotic Warhorn x 1
Mystic Stone

This was my one and only attempt on my Theif and got the attached pic. It leads me to speculate that either I hit the RNG jackpot, or Anet stealth buffed the Precursor chance at the Mystic Forge. I’m thinking the latter, because there have been so many reports of Precursors in the past 24 hours.

I doubt they changed it, its still the same.

The difference is that people forged way more exotics this weekend (mostly from beta gear chests) and it was a “trending topic”. Even before the weekend, there were a couple of topics in general on mystic forging pres, mostly due to the devaluation of t5 mats since the balance patch, which made forging pres cheaper.

best gathering route?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

A couple of months back, I made some farming runs, not only going for harvesting but also concentrating on mob kills that drop valuable mats, like poultry meat for example.

I had a good route for southsun cove, 2 ancient saplings, 3 ori nodes, 3 blooming passiflora already give you over 2g, veteran karkas have a guaranteed drop of a karka shell which sells for over 7s and you have the chance for t5 and 6 blood and i got well over 10g per hour at that time and now prices for most of the mats have risen as well.
For a month or so, I convinced my dungeon party to do a 30-45 min farming run in SSC before going for dungeons, do be able to kill karkas faster and we made about 50% more gold in the same time as running AC path 1-3.

But thinking back, i didnt really calculate the dungeon tokens as value, just drops and gold rewards from the dungeons.

Spirit shard system and augurs stone.

As others have pointed out, spirit shards are the least of your worries. Enormous amounts of bloodstone, dragonite, fragments, and crystalline dust are bigger bottlenecks. Dark Matter doesn’t come any too easily, either, and don’t neglect the cost of all the reagents and gossamer thread that must be purchased.

Not that i disagree in general but fragments dragonite and dust can indirectly be bought via t&t bags or wintersday gifts and for dark matter there are plenty of exotics that you can salvage and at least break even in cost, if not make a profit.

So those two problems could be solved with throwing gold at it.
When i crafted my 5 sets last year, the bags didnt have t7 mats in it.

So hooray to the beta testing for the pre purchasers. I’m trying out the rev right now, and it seems okay so far. I would love to try him out in dungeons & wvw, But I have no clue if we can keep our loot. I dont think it’s fair that we can’t keep our goodies that we’ve looted on our rev while being in PVE. I mean we are doing the beta testing Not for free anyway. Can any GW2 worker give me the right answer ?

Considering you get free boxes of exotic gear every time you reroll your rev, I think its a good idea that you cant keep those, otherwise the game economy would crash.

6/23 Economic Forecast

Wanze.8410

Quartz and Sprockets are seeing high demand as I expected. I already went though my stash of sprockets to craft runes and sigils, which all sold for a profit of 2-4g each. I didnt use up much quartz yet, as its very limited in daily use. I bought 20 stacks back when it was way below 1s, just to be able to craft my daily charged quartz. Charged sheets of Ambrite saw a quick initial spike to 2g in which i was able to make some good profit, its price went down a bit now to about 90s but still substantially higher than pre patch.
The grow lamp still gives the best profit, if you want to profit from charged quartz, however, I am keeping mine in case they introduce new recipes in the future.
Quartz is still fine as there is plenty of supply left until 3s but once we hit that price range, we might come into dire straits, if no new faucets get introduced.

Quartz is getting close to 3s now and it doesnt look like Anet is introducing new faucets.
Since the update (17 days ago), supply went down from 1.2 million to less than 450k.
I realized that i had another 30 stacks listed at 2.8s which i canceled before they sold, so i have around 50 stacks. I am not gonna buy more but i still keep buy orders up for sheets of charged ambrite and sheets of ambrite, as they are still available under crafting value and by buying the sheets, i am able to store more quartz per inventory slot, the regular sheet needs 5 quartz, the charged one 25, so i can store 1250 quartz per slot with regular sheets and 6250 quartz per stack of charged ambrite.

Considering that you need 125 quartz per celestial insignia/inscription, celestial is nearly the most expensive stat to craft already.
As already mentioned, the problem is the limited supply with a miximum of 4 harvestable nodes per account per day, most people will struggle to even get the 25 quartz for their daily charge without buying from the tp and i dont know how long that supply will last. I am pretty sure that other investors have plenty of quartz stored away, which will be made available once its price reaches kitten to slow the price spike down but it will be interesting to see, at what point Anet steps in and introduces additional faucets.

My brain tells me that throwing 4 exotic rifles into the forge gives me the best chance at receiving back The Hunter precursor.

It has the best chance, thats correct. However, currently, the cheapest way to get exotic rifle to forge into the the hunter is to forge rare rifles, which you got on buy orders, as the acquisition of the exotic rifle itself presents a chance on the hunter.

Maybe, but with how much easier shards are to get than laurels, it’d beat spending a year on laurels.

Considering all costs, gold and account bound mats, i would be surprised, if he finished crafting his desired sets in under a year anyways.

He probably could if he used the Anthologies. It’d leave his laurels open to be spent on the T6 bags to sell and make money to fund the crafting. Unless he got kittenty luck and got a lot of venom sacs.

You can easily make 1g for each spirit shard, if you promote t1 refined common mats, i wouldnt use my laurels to buy t6 mats.

just save all your loot bags and open them on a character that is in the level range of the loot you want.

Not that i like putting some more salt into your already tearing eyes (ok, i do) but spirit shards wont be your tightest bottle neck.

Assuming you want to craft 121 different items of ascended gear, you will also have to purchase 121 different recipes, which cost 5 laurels (and 3g) a pop, which adds up to 605 laurels. And thats not considering ascended trinkets, which also cost laurels.
For each login rotation of 28 days, you are awarded 35 laurels and the last chest gives you the opportunity to get another 20 laurels (unless you opt for vision crystals and ascended refined mats). Even at 55 laurels per 28 days, it will take you a good year to obtain them all, nevermind the trinkets.

Also dont underestimate the amount of dust/shards/ore you will need.
Last year, i decided to craft 5 different asc sets for my warrior. Gold isnt really an obstacle for me, so i crafted away. During the 3rd set, i ran out of bloodstone dust, which i could farm. During the 4th I ran out of laurels.

As already mentioned, take it one set at a time, you will make better progress.

Actually wanze, he only needs 90 for the armor, 30 for each weight. The new forge conversions means for a minor investment, he can skip the need for laurels for every other armor stat prefix.

Thats right but it would add another 10 spirit shards for the anthology of heroes for each augurs stone he purchases.
I dont think adding 50% more spirit shards to the crafting cost is a viable option for him, considering his initial complaint.

Okay, some of you may judge me after this post but please hear me out.

I have 15 char slots of which 12 are level 80’s and the other 3 are not far from 80, so I decided it was time to begin to get the mats I need to kit ALL of them out with ascended armor and weapons.

I decided to get all the augurs stones first. 1 per vision crystal and 1 per lesser vision crystal that I needed. Including weapons I need 121 augurs stones to make the crystals I need for all chars. So I headed over to Mayani and saw that I had 1,175 spirit shards. This got me 58 of the stones I needed. That is when I hit a brick wall, no shards left.

So I spoke to a few players, checked a few things and it appears that it would take me just over a year to get the remaining spirit shards I need for the augurs stones.

This is based on getting 3 shards from dailies. Cannot include drops in this as that is RNG.

So I personally think the system is broke. Before the change, you used your skill points earned on augurs stones. I have a lot of spare hero points but I cannot spend them on these items.

If I had zero shards and wanted to make a legendary, it would take you 66 days just to get enough shards for a bloodstone shard. I mean really? This is ridiculous.

This problem will rear it’s head next when everyone spends their remaining hero points on specialisations, who have very few spirit shards. They will want to make one of the new legendaries and will be like: what the hell, 66 days of dailies to do that??

For the record, I’m not a fan of how dailies are done. As it pulls me away from mapping my chars.

Your points of view are welcome. It will currently take me 473 days of dailies to get enough shards for my stones.

Nor do I want to farm levels on my chars either, that would be insanely boring.

Your points of view are most welcome :-)

Not that i like putting some more salt into your already tearing eyes (ok, i do) but spirit shards wont be your tightest bottle neck.

exotics so much better than rares that they’re worth it?…

Mostly its cheaper to throw in rares.

The chance to get an exotic from 4 rares is 20% on average and for 5 forge attempts with rares, you need 16 weapons (4+3+3+3+3), as you get 1 rare back the first 4 attempts.
To forge an exotic with exotics, you need 4.
Most rare weapons are craftable for 40-kitten atm or 50s on the tp.
If we take the 50s, the chance to get an exotic back from the forge costs you 8g.
Most exotic weapons are available for 3g on buy order, as you need 4, you pay 12g for an attempt for a precursor.

In general, the 4 weapons you put in need a combined level 300 or higher, 75 on average.
The cheapest would be to craft 3 level 80 rares and a beaded weapon, which is level 60 and costs about 25s to craft, plus 1500 karma.

I gonna play around a bit with esoterics numbers. Without diminishing his efforts, i think 200 precursors is still a small sample size but for now, i will take his numbers as being correct, meaning the droprate of a pre is 0.7% or 143 forge attempts with an exotic outcome. If you use exotics, its pretty simple, you will need 4 + 142*3=430 exotics in order to forge a pre on your 143rd attempt.

Now for rares. As already mentioned, you need 16 rares to forge an exotic, assuming you get one every 5th attempt. To get 143 attempts, you need to forge 108 exotics, which you can then use to make another 35 attempts, adding up to 143 forged exotics, with 3 exos to spare.
108*16=1726 rares on average.

1726/430 is ~4, which seems to be the golden price ratio for determining if its cheaper to use rares or exotics.

If the average price to obtain an exotic is more than 4 times higher than the average rare weapon, its cheaper to use rares.

Lets have a look on average prices on the tp for the most expensive precursors, rares and exotics.

Legend: 1030g buy order/1200g lowest listing
Rare Staves: 45s/65s
Average price of crafting Legend with rare staves: 777g/1122g
Exotic Staves: 3g/4.5g
Average price of crafting Legend with exo staves: 1290g/1935g

Dusk: 1220g/1230g
rare GS: 45s/55s
Dusk with rares: 777g/950g
exo GS: 3g/4g
Dusk with exos: 1290g/1720g

Note: I am not sure, if both dusk and dawn are on the loot table for exotics from the forge seperately or not. My guess would be that they are not, so once you get an exo GS from the forge, you roll for it being a pre and if it is, you make a 2nd roll to determine if its dusk or dawn. In that case, you have to add the prices of dusk and dawn and divide it by 2.

Spark: 970g/1080g
rare daggers: 42s/58s
Spark with rares: 725g/1001g
exo daggers: 3g/4g
Spark with exos: 1290g/1720g

I think a pattern becomes apparent, if you want to forge an expensive precursor, get rares on buy order or craft them yourself.

Lets have a loog at using random weapons:
Cheapest exos: 1.2g/2g
Forge a random pre with random exos: 516g/860g
Cheapest rares: 25s/35s
Forge a random pre with random rares: 432g/605g

TL/DR: Use rares or buy my precursors from the tp

The Chinese version of the game has bunny ears on sale in their cash shop as a skin, posting from my mobile so can’t link. The item exists and all the devs need to do is push a button.

The fact that bunny ears have not been released in the eu & na game yet tells me they never will be. I just can’t think of a reason why not. I would insta buy upon release though.

The Bunny Outfit, including Bunny Ears, is a registered trademark with the USPTO (serial no 72171655) of Playboy Enterprises Inc.

Didn’t have luck with precursors for a long time. Then I put all 3 finished gifts into the forge, took them out again, put in 3 exotic staves and got my precursor. I still don’t belive that this was chance.

I dont believe you either, as you will probably be the first one to forge a precursor with only 3 staves.

Typo I guess, but i like to be a smart kitten.

On topic:
I played well over 7000 hours and never got a precursor drop, not even from the karka event. BUt i got about 25 from the forge. The first two i crafted into legendaries, the rest i sold for profit.

ATM t5 mats are very cheap, even the expensive weapon types can be crafted for 40-kitten , if you get the mats on buy order.
Most pro forgers claim you need an average of 2000 rare weapons to get a pre cursor.
At that rate, it would cost you 800-900g.

Personally, i crafted 15 pres during wintersday, iirc my average was around 800 rares per pre then. Since the 6/23 patch i forged 9 more, for that batch my average was below 500 rares.

^^^ This exactly^^^

For some reason there’s always 2:1 players posting in favor of RNG working as intended when the topic comes up in forums. Strangely enough it’s usually the same players posting with spreadsheets full of concocted data meant to stifle any posts claiming it is broken or reduced.

Bottom line is that enough of this same group of players respond in rebuttal that Anet never actually has to take the time to address the issue.

They dont have to adress this issue because there probably isnt an issue. Most of the time, it actually IS a streak of bad rng of a very small sample from the OP, or the OP failed to collect his data correctly.

I would assume the ecto salvage rate is something that is getting monitored on a regular basis, especially after patches.

And your claim that Anet is never taking any action, is also false.
In January, JS doublechecked the ecto salvage rate (for dust), after someone claimed its broken. It turned out that the OP didnt collect his data correctly and everything was fine.

Jeez….Wanze’s TP totals are just humbling….he’s paid about 10x in TP fees than I have ever seen….

Thats just from the last 3 months though as the API only tracks 90 days of sale and purchase history and only from 1 account.

And my trading volume went up alot since the TP UI remake as it made alot of things easier.

Before that, I was usually playing around with only 200-400g in gold and not more than 30 different buy orders, otherwise it got too time consuming to update them.
Now I usually have around 1000g and 100 different items im buying.

To save time, you should consider more higher risk, higher value flipping. Instead of flipping 100 items for a 1 Gold profit, just flip 1 item instead. I’ve been doing the same item for weeks now, and I get 1 to 1.3 Gold per single flip. It’s helped me offset my major losses from Ecto gambling. The only risk as the moment is competition for my Buy Orders.

On a side note, I really REALLY hope you’re not the one who kept outbidding me for the Queen Bee. It’s like I had to update my offers every 30 seconds for at least an hour.

I actually dont flip that much, most of my purchases are investments, containers, items i salvage or crafting mats i use to craft to make a profit.

Before that, I was usually playing around with only 200-400g in gold and not more than 30 different buy orders, otherwise it got too time consuming to update them.
Now I usually have around 1000g and 100 different items im buying.

I definitely like that we have a Load More Items button now. When they got rid of the pages, it was pretty annoying to have to cancel your most recent orders to get at your older orders.

Now, I usually put in orders for around 2000g at a time. The delay on the TP sometimes is really the only annoying thing now. Though I do my orders again generally every 6 hours since the majority of it fills by then.

What helped me save the most time was creating a shopping list in my current buy orders tab.

I canceled all my buy orders and then put in 1 each minimum value buy order for the items i regularly bid on or which values i want to check on a regular basis.
Now i can just click on each item on my list and place my bids without having to use the search function, which saves quite alot of typing.

I also realized that if you want to cancel a buy order, if you click right of the cancel button, it cancels it without having to click confirm, which comes in handy, if ysou placed alot of buy orders that didnt fill.

Yes, except when very expensive runes/infusions are involved.

You have to either give them up or pay gems for an asininely expensive upgrade extractor.

IF you are not using the gear anymore, you already gave up on the upgrade components anyways.

I don’t isolate the rares I’m salvaging by levels, just know that they’re 68+ and then sort by light, medium, heavy so I can track the material drop rates from them as well.

Just chipping in here that different armor pieces have a different average return on common mats, a chestpiece gives more than gloves, for example.
But i guess you knew that already and not only mark the weight of the armor you are salvaging but also which piece of gear.

I know that it does. Since I was more interested in the ecto drop rates, I just average the salvage mats to see if they line up with previously calculated chest vs other pieces. Takes up too much time to organize by type beyond weight category. The first 20,000 salvages were sorted by each individual type and when I get rares in large quantities, the time it takes to sort them by type isn’t worth it.

Yeah, i stopped tracking common mats after 50k salvages. I mostly salvage trinkets these days anyways. When I salvaged alot of armor/weapons, it was mostly to buff my luck in the early days.

Giving players to ability to rate tags is too easily abused.

First I was thinking to track some stats, if someone commands, for example player kills, objects defended/conquered, deaths and overall time commanding, so people can get a better idea of how experienced a com is.
But with that system, everybody in a zerg would probably switch on his dorito, if they are about to cap something to get his stats up, so its not an ideal solution either.

1. and 3.
On buying and selling via an app without being logged in, Pat Cavit said the following:

So, is direct interaction with the TP still allowed though? I’d like to manage my transactions and especially add new ones while in university, where I can’t run GW2 on my netbook.

Selling has always required a game client. Buying now requires a game client as well. Neither of those are likely to be exposed via the API any time soon.

Those restrictions could be worked around with a really convincing fake client, but I’m pretty sure that’s against our TOS.

So i doubt that it will become a feature anytime soon.

2. IS already possible via a number of apps, some even let you utilize your trading post API key, so you can check if you are outbid or undercut on your bids and listings.

4-6 is already possible

7. Is in the works but not sure when its released. Some of the guild API info will be released before HoT but offline guild chat will probably take a while longer.

Thanks for the clarifications; I’ll just start trying to save up for them then! In the meantime, anything in particular give you that feeling?

Not sure, if you mean saving up for the recipes or the buying the sigils on tp.
Anyways, why I think some limited rewards will come back, i talked about here:

Just to clear up some misinformation here.

Those recipes were only available during the first opening of the pavillion from the emmisaries during the Queens jubilee. When the pavillion came back last year during the festival of the 4 winds, those emmisaries were gone (because it wasnt the queens jubilee).

My thief has got the recipe for Sigil of Malice and I created him in december 2013 – 4 months after the Queen’s jubilee.
I’m going to research where he got it from.

Edit: Must’ve gotten it from Scarlet’s Stash

No, Scarlets secret stash was only available during clockwork chaos.
But as those recipes were account bound, you maybe bought the recipe during the jubilee, stored it and then used it on your thief 4 months later.

Queen Jennah celebrated 10 years of her reign over DR in August 2013, the festival of the 4 winds was already in may 2014. The Queen didnt mark her 11th year as reign in aug 2014, so i doubt she will mark her 12th year this august with all the plants going bananas all over tyria either.

During the Festival, the Emmisaries, which used sprockets as a newly introduced currency for their goods and recipes, were substituted by the festival reward vendors, which used favors as newly introduced currency to barter their goods.
But they didnt have those recipes from the emmisaries in stock.

Apart from that, as already mentioned, those sigils are so expensive because they are epensive to craft, you wont be able to craft them for much cheaper than their lowest bid, maybe you save 50-100s.

And I expect the recipes to make a return between now and HoT or with HoT.

6/23 Economic Forecast

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

Just out of curiosity Wanze….

In general, what do you see happening to the cost/price of T5 mats up until & just after HoT ?

Its hard to predict because as end game loot, it relies heavily on demographics, what kind of updates anet brings out until then and how HoT will look like.

Due to my last posts i guess you mean in relation to their demand for precursor forging.

I havent looked too deep into it yet because i need more info about HoT which will be released closer to launch.

The price of precursors has been a hot topic since launch all through last year. Last summer, before LS season 2, their prices were as high as never before, many of them beyond 1000g each. There was daily complaining about it on the forums, and even though i could afford the prices, I agreed and refused to buy myself one.
Until then, i only crafted Juggernaut, about 5 months after launch and back then grinded for all that goes in it, just like most other people. I got the pre from the forge, with 3 random rares and a mystic stone.

With Season 2, the prices changed and I think Anet did a great job in handling it. Compared to the Karka Event, which only resulted in a quick supply dumb but wasnt a long term solution, they actually managed to bring supply up and prices down with season 2.

And they didnt do it by buffing precursor droprates directly (from events, loot or forge) but indirectly, by flooding the market with mats to forge them.
Before season 2, t5 mats were at nearly 4s. Drytop is a lvl 80 zone and with its introduction, most players were farming there and it had a decent t5 droprate, especially after people learned to farm it and their value went down to 3.5s.

Halloween was a 5 star farmfest, where you killed lots of mobs that dropped t5 mats and we got plenty of t6 mats from trick or treat bags as well. That brought their price down a notch, mostly hovering around 2.5s.
Wintersday and snowflakes took them down to 1.8s and lots of people made lots of gold forging precursors those days. In January, precursor prices also went down significantly, partly due to the influx from the forge and Anets announcement of Hot and precursor crafting.

Since then, t5 mats have been hovering between 1.8-2s pretty steadily because the influx of snowflakes drained out and lack of content diminished the veteran population, while plenty of new players made use of the 75% savings sales.
People were a wee bit hype about the precursor crafting and many predicted their prices crashing soon.
Funnily enough, precursors have seen a significant price increase since the end of february, some even as much as 40-50%. But now people seem to be content with it, no one complaining on the forums.
That seems to be a strong indication for me that players dont care, that they will be able to craft their own pre with HoT, if they are working on getting their first legendary now. They dont want to wait until HoT and they are pretty much still in demand.
And i dont think that will change with HoT either, they will still be in demand.

Most Veteran players will propably go for one of the new legendaries, thats their mastery reward track blocked, they will propably rather buy an old pre on the tp or try to forge it themselves, if they also go for an old leggie.
Many players will also opt to advance other mastery reward tracks, in order to go deeper into the jungle. I am pretty sure, you will need to unlock plenty of other rewards from other tracks as well, in order to finish your collection for your precursor.
That basically means that people would have to complete most content of the expansion, in order to finish ONE crafted precursor. Even though your second and subsequent crafted precursor might take less time because you already unlocked plenty of stuff for them, it will (hopefully) take a couple of months until the market gets more flooded with crafted precursors, old and new.
So i dont expect too much changing on their prices.

Edit: By the time i hit reply button, i realized you were mostly asking about t5 mats and not precursors and i mostly babbled about pres. Let me sleep over it and i tell you some more about what i expect for t5 mats.

Unsalvageable armors

The exotics should be salvagable, either way, in order to let people get their runes/sigils back. I personally don’t care if salvaging them would give you back crafting materials or not.

So i just buy melandru gear with karma, as I have about 6 million of it, and get the rune to sell it?

Sounds legit.

No, they are talking about runes that they put in, not runes that were there already. Runes that were added should have some salvage rate, not zero.

Explain me then, how in this scenario, exotic runes leave the economy and you avoid every single rune to be available at vendor value. Not only the exotic ones but also the rares. If there wouldnt be any expensive exotic runes anymore, rare runes would also go towards vendor value.

In my opinion they should be salvageable but without giving anything, just the rune / sigil with chance based on the salvage kit used, this would solve everything.

It wouldnt solve the problem of basically rendering the last sink for exotic runes useless.

With the change on how transmutation works, that’s no longer possible. Perhaps an oversight?

It was an oversight before, the economical impact the possibility to recover an upgrade via transmuting onto another gear had, was bigger than they thought.

That was fixed with the wardrobe update.

Permanent Upgrade Extractor

Dungeon armor can be salvaged. And the demand for extracting upgrades just came around when you couldnt simply transmute your gear anymore with the wardrobe upgrade. Before that, we would simply transmute our temple armor piece with our newely crafted ascended piece, choose the stats from ascended and the rune from the temple gear and whatever skin you like better. Various vendor gear was unsalvageable way before that.

My point about the inability to salvage things being an exception before and now a norm still stands though. They started restricting salvaging first due to various unintended currency conversion methods (this of course including upgrades as medium but the primary vessels back then were ectos and rare mats).

Rare mats cant be salvaged though.
