Who here wants to have exotic quality unbreakable gathering tools?
For all I care, make them worth 10g each.
I don’t support this. There needs to be a constant money sink. I would rather have a permanent tool that “breaks down” or weakens, that you need to get repaired like your armor/weapons.
This. is. brilliant. please, Anet do this. here, have a few ideas:
-the base cost of the tool is Xg
-the tool have Y amount of use-points.
-whenever you use the tool it removes the appropriate amount of use-points.. i.e mining copper removes 24 use-points and harvesting a orichalcum removes 400. (coppar axe costs 24c with 100 uses and a orichalcum costs 4s with 100 uses)
-don’t show the actual amount of use-point the tool have left. only give us a warning when it reaches 25%, you could have a ingame warning like “your tool got damaged” and a dmged icon on the tool icon , like the one on the Armour. and once it’s at 0% it’s broken and need a repair.
-the repair cost could be anything. a long as it’s somehow linked to how many uses you have left. a few examples:
cost(rounded up)= points removed*0.01 // this formula gives the closest price of what the normal tools are.
cost(rounded up)= points removed*[] + lvl*[] + []// this formula is a general formula based on the charter’s level and the amount of removed points aswell with a base cost.
the numbers are up for Anet to decide but for me the first formula is my favorite because it would give us the (almost) exact same gold sink as we have today. also the base number X could be rather high.
it’s there for players who want to pay gold for nothing more than connivance (witch already is in the game).
i don’t either believe in the “pay once and then forget about it” as it would remove a gold sink. ( sure a very small gold sink, but still a gold sink. there must be a reason why it’s there,right?
oh, and the 25% warning should be implemented anyway. as it would remove the need of having a spare set of tools on you at all times. because i don’t keep an eye on that little number in the far right of the hero screen when i’m playing this beautiful game.

it is long,it is hard, it makes a lot of ppl rage at each other and have a few mechanics that’s not generally known ( namely the bomb run and the ice elemental boss). it brings a lot of loot though, so its a good fractal to farm but thats basically the only +.
8. Volcanic:
as earlier posts said, if your party don’t have the dps or the cc to take down the schamans, then you are gonna have a bad time.( this isn’t a problem until higher 30s i’d imagine) the last boss is probably the hardest boss to do with a pug. although its a pretty easy boss until the adds spawns.
7. Cliffside:
only hard part is the 3:d floor. if there is 1 person who kills the last mob from the first 2 mobs at each seal. then this phase will become a lot harder. but that’s about it.
6. Uncategorized:
I hate this fractal soooooooooo much. this fractal alone is tempting me to do a necro shroud build somehow. because 1. the knockdown area is so big the circle sometimes cant be seen on the platform. 2. the visual effect are pretty poor because it’s a bright sparky thing that on a bright background. 3. the harpies them self have no visual give away that they are using the ability. 4. even if i could see the red circle on the platform. i would’t see it because i have to look up in order to place down aoe / target enemies)
5. Snowblind:
i was unsure if this was at 5 or at 4. but i decided it was a 5 because it’s annoying. part1 is quite easy. all u have to do is kite. and like others before me have said: “if u don’t feel for it just use a few spykits”. the middle boss is kinda annoying due to the removing the ability to see anything. but it’s a structure so you cant lose progress upon wipe.
4. Urban Battlegrounds:
same difficulty as the snowblind i’d say but slightly less annoying. hardest parts is the boss and the taking of the center but with proper control of the npc’s this shouldn’t be to much of a problem.
3. aquatic Ruins:
easy, i don’t think i’ve ever gotten my Armour broken here, ever. unless i forgot to remove my breather during the 2nd part.
2. Solid Ocean:
i have this as a second easiest because it is always the same difficulty. the first adds a seen as high level loot chests just waiting to get opened. the boss fight it self only scale with agony. witch only become a problem at higher levels ( or not having enough with resistance) if u don’t have a guardian.
1. Swampland:
this is pretty much like the solid ocean, it remain the same difficulty. however in the first few (1-10) levels this fractals is often regarded as the hardest.
yeah, if you are unlucky there it could take some additional time, witch kinda sux but it should’t be more than a couple of minutes.
to coplete the boss the fatestway:
phase 1: kill the recquired amount of mobs asap to get to phase 2.
phase 2: kill arms asap( i don’t know how the proper term is spelled). usually when i play fractals with my friends we can have a rotation of 2 arms down all the time. ( the 2 closest and 1 in the middle) kill one and the third should re spawn. i think 1 arm kill equals to one crystal hit.
so in the phase 2 just dps all day long and the boss should be over with quickly ( but don’t forget to be close to a shard and the rest of the group if a res is needed)

meh, if you could buy/sell ascended rings on the tp then they wouldn’t be worth more than 5-10s with the current drop rate. and the infused pieces would’t be more expensive.
when we will be able to salvage them is however a better question.
To be honest. I don’t see why any one even goes beyond fractal 10.
You do fractals to get loot. At 20, the only unique loot is the rings with agony resistance tacked onto them. Why would you need agony resistance? To do higher level fractals! Why would you do higher level fractals? To get loot! …Wait, what?
No matter how much increased chance you get. It is easier, faster and more profitable just to do fractal 10 dailies.
there is basically 3 reason to go to level 20+.
1. for fractal weapons. they look awesome and for me they mean allot. they drop rarely at lvl 20 so i’m going to 30 to get these skins. no further.
2. for relics. at lvl 26 you get 100 relics for an entire daily run. and it doesn’t take that much longer time if u get grouped with a decent group. i need the relics cause i’m getting a legendary. and i rather play fractals than farming karma in the world
3. fun. I enjoy playing high fractals because its challenging. sure my opinion might change but for now i consider it fun.
the best gold/h is probably achieved at around lvl 10-15 and with the entire group geared for mf. but that’s just a theory. so if you want gold/h try find a fractal farm group where everybody got mf. and run low level dredge/ascalon/jade maw all day long. don’t be an kitten and run mf-gear with people who want to complete the dungeon for daily and/or for progress.
Players wanted a sense of progression, and instead of coming up with something creative (there are tons of examples of how to do this…and they needed to look no further than GW1 to find a lot of them), they decided to go the easy and lazy route: better stats on gear.
Like much of their devoted fanbase, 11/15 was like a punch in the mouth. Am I still playing the game and having fun for now? Yes. But have I fallen out of love with it and have started to look at other MMOs on the horizon? Unfortunately, also yes.
The game is new (5-6 month isn’t a lot for a MMORPG). and was most likely released 2 or 3 month before the devs actually wanted it to be released. I wasn’t there in vanilla GW1. so idk if the max stats that ever got out was there from day1. but a lot of the things that made GW1 so great did’t get out on day1.
and no they didn’t go the lazy route. if they were going the lazy route we would have had all the ascended pieces by now and we would acquire them in the same way as we acquire the rings as of now or the back piece. the fact that they haven’t released them all means that they either haven’t finished the content for how to acquire the ascended pieces or they aren’t sure if its’s the right thing to do. they are listening to the player base. making decisions from multiple forums, they’ve even said they take feedback from world chat ingame. the winters day jp is a brilliant example.
and why do you assume that the entire fan base are taking “a punch in the mouth”? I like the fotm I like a challenge. yeah it’s hard, but that’s the point. if u don’t want hard pve stuff. go do easy pve stuff or pvp stuff. yeah having the ascended exclusive to fractals is debatable if its good or bad. but the next ascended pieces might be acquired in another way. we don’t know thats the point, within the next week we know somewhat of what they are planning on doing within the upcoming 6 months. and imo the January and the February patches is make it or break it patches. those two patches and possibly the March patch as well will more or less decide for a lot of players if they will be returning/leaving from/to another game.
this is all my opinions and you will have to bring a quite strong argument to change it.
ascended gear is there simply to increase the required time to reach max-stats somewhat. and i think that the ascended was part of the plan from the beginning, way before the release but it just didn’t make it to the release of the game for some reason ( they had better things to take care of right before launch). so it’s not something thought off after the launch because an additional gear-tier is a huge deal.
and u might say this is a gear treadmill. and i can agree with that its a slight treadmill because they will add more and more gear pieces. but they will stop. once all ascended pieces are out and you have them all and the best upgrades for them, you will never ever get higher stats on that character. so until then, yes there is a gear treadmill. but only temporarily because they can only produce content that fast. if they were to add higher stats somehow after all of the ascended items is released. then they would break the promises they made. and only then i will truly belive there is going to be a gear treadmill in this game. untill then, nope, I can’t see them adding a treadmill in this game.
“but why did’t they include ascended pieces already when the game released?” because i think they plan on doing something special with the ascended items. they don’t want ascended items to be crafted or just bought off the TP. for example: you can’t get ascended back pieces or rings without playing the fractals, it’s impossible. maybe the next ascended will be some kind of scavenge hunt or requiring playing wvw or something else. maybe they will allow to craft some ascended. but i agree with that ascended gear shouldn’t be acquired via dungeons only.

i think you miss the point of those weapons. the point with crafting those expensive-to-craft-exotics, like the one you mention, is for the skin and not the stats. if you want the stats you are better of with just crafting the cheapest thing (the pearl-weapons or whatever they are called). you craft the weapon and then transmute it with the stats to your liking. very few keep their stats on their skins. unless they get lucky and the skin they like have the right stats.

I run high lvl fotm with mf gear on as a guardian, got a problem with that?
yes, you are a drain on the group. might as well take off some agony resistance, because it is the same thing.
he could have tanky stats keeping him alive. As long as you don’t go full glass cannon build (stats, powers and gear) you should do just fine.
He still has 1/3 less stats than everyone else.
MF is selfish and for morons. 100% more of a 5% drop rate is still only 10%. That is not enough to justify gimping yourself.^^THIS^^
How in hell do you people fail so easily at simple math. 100% to a base 1% is 2%, does it really matter if you will (statistically) get 1 or 2 exotics out of 100 monsters?
assuming that the mf-stat works like you guys assume. the mf-stat is a great stat. if u run with 100%mf that mean you will get double your amount of money from things you loot just like Palaryel.2463 is saying. and tbh that’s where the main money making is. especially in fractals. because we get alot of rare drops there and not so much direct gold. and its probably the best stat to get for increasing your gold/h.
however, it is a selfish stat. and only you gain from having it. and that’s where it breaks for me. I would never run in my mf-gear with pugs. why? because its a selfish stat and it takes money from my team mates and gives it to me because the run takes slightly longer time but the 100+%mf makes up for it ( on my part).
however with my friends, where we have made an agreement that when we farm fractals we will all be wearing our mf-gear. because we know that we can deal with the fractals even with somewhat lower stats.
however i always run with mf-food that gives 40%-mf when i have a boon and 20% more boons. i consider this ok. because its a lot of mf. and rarely do i see a player with other food than mf/gf.
and on topic: yes i think you did right and i would have done the same. an eye for an eye is sometimes just enough. and i agree that a kick requirement of 3 or even 4 votes . but 3 is enough probably.
also to solve the mf-find problem you could split all the mf-find the group has between the entire group. so if 1 person have 100% mf and the rest have none, then the entire group have an increased mf-stat of 20%. this was done in diablo3 and was one of the only thing they did right in that game imo.

i’m thinking of arranging a brawl tournament.
however a tournament need players. so i’m here asking if people here on the forum is interested in having a tournament. i need at least 32 players, otherwise i won’t bother.
the price pool will be 2g to 3:rd , 4g to 2:nd and 6g to 1:st. its a rather low price but it’s free to enter as of now. if it becomes a success and a lot of people want to join i might add a smaller entering fee in order to make the price pool larger.
here is the system behind the tournament, feel free to give feedback in how i can make sure it becomes a better tournament.
bracket-system
im going to be using the double elimination bracket system. basicly what it means is that u need to lose 2 games in order to be eliminated from the tournament.

the game and the round
to win a game you must win the majority of the rounds that are being played in each game.
you win a round by knocking out the enemy player or reach 3 king stacks.
every game is 3 rounds long (unless agreed otherwise, however the game must contain of a odd number of rounds)
each round have a time-limit of 15 minutes. (unless agreed otherwise, if you want you can agree with having no time limit). If no winner have been declared by then; count your score and the player with the most points wins. ( you can set a timer on your phone to keep the time)

all games are being played at the mystic forge in lions arch. i will make a picture of the exact area if the tournament is a go.
arranging a game
use the in game mail-system or forum messages to arrange games with your opponent. arranging the game should be done as fast as possible in order to make sure the game get played within the time frame.
its very important that you make sure you play your game. if you don’t play the game i will randomize a winner.
If you feel you did everything you could but the opponent just didn’t care, ignored you or otherwise hindered the game from being played, please send me some print-screens so i can make a decision. ( I REEEEEALY don’t want these situations to occur!
So please do everything you can to avoid it and if you feel that you hindered the game from being played please be a gentleman/woman and stand down.
*rules *
the rules are simple:
-you can only use your toys ability’s, dodge and jump and nothing else. ( meaning that you can’t grant yourself boons, stealth or quickness in any way
-you cant have any traits points spent. this is in order to remove all trait- advantages. (i.e the elementalists air5 gives a 10% movement speed increase)
-no food or other buffs.
- you can’t leave the playground.
you get the point, everybody are on the same level no matter level or class.

i will add restrictions or even banns to spells here that I/the community consider to be broken or ruining the game play.

i’m allot for fire things. so i run emberglow and the emberglow staff. with that i run the second book from the Halloween event.and i’d have use gloves of baltazhar if i could but i don’t have them. and i aiming for the arah Armour set. looks great so far :P
I said know the game as in exactly how you described it, not know the game as in all the dungeons, full ‘raid gear’ or something like that. Knowing the game one way and knowing it another way was the distinction I was trying to make.

You could listen in on what the most popular youtube personality has to say and he may recommend buying X item for low level chars and everyone does it or someone may make a forum post saying they had great success making X item while leveling a char to use as a weapon or as a potion.
Again, the point I was making was to pay attention, which is a bit ironic in this sense.
I did understand it was an example. it would be plain stupid to do a video about a specific item as it would only crash the market around that item.

its a good guide. everything is spot on ( part from the " not needing to know the game" but you are right on the psychology part). You need to know the game in order to make these kind of predicts. u need to know that omnnom berry are very sought after, you need to know how they are farmed, you need to know the changes in future updates, you need to know everything about the thing you plan on investing in in order to make a good decision.
although it is a good guide and all that. it’s not a guide of how to “dominate” or “rule” the market. sure you get some nice money from it. but in order to dominate or rule a market you need to manipulate it. and this guide is more or less about riding a manipulation already being done by Anet.
its a very good general game guide, i’ve done this in a multitude of games. but it can’t be applied to GW2 that much. why? because we have yet to see some patch notes before the actual patch. but i guess that this can be done partly even though the entire game already knows it.

From my testings i’ve had a average of 0.75/salvage and that’s also from 1000+salvages. are you sure its 90/salvage? i was the one that updated the wiki about this. and id like the wiki to be as accurate as possible. can you confirm that you did 5000 salvages on a average on 900 ectos per salvage?
why don’t you ppl just sell the rares you get? most rares are around 25s or 26s (if you list them) ive even had rares going toward 50s on the listing. and usually the rares get sold within 1day. so I’d say its more money by not salvaging.
well, id like to find out about the scaling on fractals agony dmg. wiki is clearly wrong and i’ve tried to work out a formula myself but haven’t found any.
-criteria that the formula must do:
12.5% dmg / tick in lvl 10 without any AR
6.25% dmg / tick in lvl 10 with 5 AR
etc…
-25% dmg / tick in lvl 20 without any AR
12.5% dmg / tick in lvl 20 with 5 AR
etc…
-less than 100% dmg / tick in lvl 50with 30AR
-more than 100% dmg / tick in lvl 60 with 30AR
the current formula at the wiki is ;
100(2^[(Difficulty/10) – (Resistance/5) – 4]) = %-damage taken per hit.
if the wiki formula were correct we would only take 6,25% dmg / tick in lvl 60 with 30 AR, witch obviously isn’t the case.
my theory is something in the line of this:
100(2^[(2^[Difficulty/10]-1) – (Resistance/5) -4])% dmg / tick
this formula gets the same answer as the wiki’s on the first 2 difficulties. but would quickly escalate after that. we get the folowing results:
lvl10:
0 AR = 12.5%
5 AR = 6,25%
10 AR = 3,125% etc…
lvl20:
0 AR = 25%
5 AR = 12.5%
10 AR = 6,25% etc…
lvl30:
10 AR = 25%
15 AR = 12.5%
20 AR = 6,25%
lvl40:
20 AR = 100%
25 AR = 50%
30 AR = 25%
lvl50:
30 AR = 6400% yes, 6400% of your max hp per tick.
so we clearly see the scaling is escalating way to quickly. as seen in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vQZyILWlO4 (Dredge last boss scale 55)
the guardian in the video survive a agony tick in a lvl50 frac with around 40%hp at 4:55 min into the video.
so the formula is better. but not accurate.
id like to have some date from folks actually playing these higher fractals. at what level are starting to get 1 shoted from 1 tick of agony and how much dmg does agony do on the different difficulty levels. ty for all the information and ill keep working on the formula :P

Yes, what you are missing is that above fractal 50 its not possible to survive the agony in any way, we have had previous methods to surpass the agony from 47 – 50 but above there you will die instantly, now here is the clue: When you run back to Jade Maw and have not survived the agony he previously used, he will once again insta kill you with agony once you jump over to his area. In order to prevent getting hit by agony again you have to revive inside his area.
About your build, I’ll try to get a response from the members and come back to you =)
i see. then i guess there is no way around it. how do you do it? you leave one cristall by the side where you die and then 1 pick it up and start ressing every1?(without using the cristal ofc. only keeping it as a shield)
now, idk but do the agony hit over the entire map? or is it only the jade maw area. if that is the case couldn’t you let one of you guys stay and die. and the rest go back to checkpoint by falling. thus 1 of you die and 4 survive. or do the agony hit you as you return to the area aswell?

using revive orbs for fractals isn’t exploiting. you dont gain an unfair advantage other then u res… i mean i don’t really get it why people uses them in the fractal boss. if you wipe from the agony just ( witch you will) just re-spawn at last checkpoint. or maybe i’m missing something? decpite. they’ve had multiple patches to be able to fix this “exploit” most recently today when the 4jan patch went live. also they are much quicker to respond to exploits. usually its within 24h from the moment they found out about the exploit.
and if you don’t think that’s proof enough, please go ahead and use your common sense . it’s a revive orb. used for reviving in useful pve situations.

i’d love to join. but. i’m only frac lvl 15 ( i started last week) and im a elementalist … so i wouldt bring to much to the table anyway.

me to :P but i play mainly fotm with it and i have 0/20/0/20/30. i think the 20% cd reduction in water is worth more than 5 points in air and 2 or 3 stacks of vulnerbility.

I hope they implement it. because it would be really cool to have these things as memories. i.e you buy a pirate flag because you had a epic event or u had a good time while killing pirates and then you met a karma vendor selling pirate flags. and would so be usefull as a memory. atm you have to save all these memories in the bank… witch is kinda dull tbh. and for those who think it’s usless. dont use it. simple. also MithranArkanere have a point with the uppgrades.
Switch your utilities and weapons depending on the stage and boss. I’ve found ether renewal to be the best heal for the lava boss since it cures his burning spam while healing. Use scepter/focus for the uncategorizable jumping puzzle map for swirling winds and obsidian flesh to overcome the harpies instant knockdowns. I also use scepter/focus for jade maw since obsidian flesh will save me if I am out of endurance and cant get to a crystal in time. Use dagger/dagger for the svanir boss. Overall I’d say staff is a bad choice and you’d do better with scepter/dagger. Meteor shower is just too unreliable for dps. If you aren’t swapping your weapons you aren’t using your ele to his full potential.
i do switch my utility spells when i know that i need a specific spell. i.e using signet of earth on the dredge bosses. or switching to cleanses on the swamp run. i just felt that the list would be rather long and was kinda obvius.
out of endurance and out of reach of a cristall*? when does that ever happen? i almost never dodge on that map unless there is a arm spawning just next to me. and even if i would be out of endurance ill just go to fire and dodge it with fire4.
i tried the scepter focus on harpies. didnt work aswell as staff do. ( all you do is stand where u spawned and spam aoe from below on the platforms that have harpies on them and problem solved. i haven’t gone down on those ever sense i discovered that.
why would i use d/d for svanir boss? that is the easiest boss ever. ( possibly beaten by mossman due to tree bugg). and what is it that d/d brings to that specific fight? i mean svanir boss uses only melee so why should i go there? just stand from a distance and build up a few might stacks and fury and start meteor 2 sec before he spawnes and you will deal ALOT of dmg. combine it with water storm and he wont be able to leave the storm or the meteor because he have basically 0 mobility.and if he exits just knock him back in with air push…
staff bad? please further explain why. isn’t the 2 water field good enough? or maybe its the aoe 6sec chill that bad. or is it the aoe 2 sec stun or the best aura in the game ( earth shield) sure staff is a bad choice for some situations. like the dredge 1st part and the bombs and for the mobs before jade maw.but how can scepter dagger be better than staff generaly? the only thing i feel scepter dagger brings is alot of might stacks.
I agree with using Renewing Stamina, it’s a very good trait.
I don’t see why you get Stone Flesh (5 Earth) since it doesn’t work with Lingering Elements – it will almost never be up. I’d much rather get another Water trait or pick up Weak Spot.

Glyph of Renewal blows. Pick up Arcane Wave, another reliable Blast finisher. Or you can pick up Glyph of Elemental Power because it combos quite strongly with Meteor Shower or similar.
i ran with arcane wave before. i was only trying out the renewal… ive ran it a few times and i use it averagely 0.5 times successfully on 4 fractals .. lol so ill remove it as well.
I don’t see why you use Lightning Flash over Mist Form (or just get rid of both altogether and you can have 2 Glyph + Arcane Wave).
perhaps. maybe ill do it in later fractals. atm im only using it to land my meteor shower basically. and its great tool in the boss fractal. ill always use it in the boss fractal… have saved me many times. but ill probably try out the glyph.

Hi. I just started with playing Fotm and i am on lvl 10 atm doing dailys. and id like to share my build here on the forum to look for feedback and things i can improve. i’m looking to go deeper into the fotm-dungeon and my goal is lvl 30 ish. and maybe if i find a good group in a guild on my server i will go even deeper. so here is my build:
its a pvp-builder but the items is somewhat to what i have. mainly berserker with some celestial gear. ( in a far future i might pick up triforge)
my thoughs around this build:
weapon of choice
i pick staff because that is what i learned to play and have played the most. And i think its the most fun and it brings a lot of utility to the table. if you have a warrior to combo in your water fields he becomes unkillable. and the sigil of battle is so strong on elementalists because we are changing attunements all the time. so we are bound to hit the 3 might gain within 2 or 3 seconds from that it comes off cd.
thoughts on traits:
-zhephyrs boon: its a good trait and we have access to 2 auras (earth 3 and earth 2 + water 4 combo or water 4 and earth dodge) granting us 10 (13) sec fury. the fury in this build will remain up for about 75% of the time and is always up when I have meteors raining. grating me a wooping 25% dmg increase during the meteor shower.
-quick glyphs: i like glyphs. heal is a glyph, ulti is a glyph and i have 2 more in my utility set.
-5 earth , 15 water: in earth the 130 toughness is pretty cheap for 5 points and another 5 points in water grant us a 2k aoe heal every time we go into water and i don’t really have a trait anywhere else that i want. id like to spend thses 10 points in arcana but there is already 30 there :P
-cleansing wave i feel this trait is mandatory in all elementalist build because its a life saver. also some extra vit is always nice. but i might be wrong.
-renewing stamina if you have more than 20% critchanse or having fury alot and you don’t have this trait, you are doing something wrong.
-blasting staff i have a staff…
-evasive arcana another aoe heal in water and a combo finisher in earth. cool story bro.
id like to have elemental atunement but i feel all my traits in arcana are more valuable than that trait.
i could skip the 5 in earth and water but i don’t know what to take instead of them. i could go 10 more in air but no trait there is really that valuable.
skills:
-heal is there another heal to elementalists? also its a glyph.
-utility1 storm is a good spell provide daze in lightning and constant blind in earth and chill in water. its kinda “meh” in fire. but its still alot of dmg. also its glyph.
-utility2i am vulnerable while casting meteor shower and this gives me a free relocation if need. also its a good relocation skill if i find myself on the wrong side of the mobs. and i need a stun breaker.
-utility3 i have no idea of what to pick here. so i pick the revive thingy. its actually pretty good and have saved my party in a few tight spots. also its a glyph.
-elite The earth elemental is to good to pass.and the only viable elite in my eyes, all other elites limit my spells and/or mobility.
so, what do you think? is it good or am i doing something horribly wrong? i rarely die because i have so much dodge and chills and insta heals. but i suppose you don’t get to heal yourself in the higher fractals due to instagibb. yes, i’m quite squishy but i hardly ever get hit because of constant vigor and fire 4 dodges. I pick celestial gear because it’s probably elementalists strongest gear because we gain so much from all stats.
is there anything i’ve missed? is there a better rune/sigil for me? should i play another type of elementalist in higher level fractals? should i run with more or less defence in higher fractals ? any feedback that’s constructive and have some reasoning behind it is welcome.

when you buy an item in the gem-store the item is being mailed to you and any character you own can pick it up. once picked up you can give it to any of your characters via putting the item in the bank and then pick it up by any other character. not until you have actually used the item it may or may not get soul bound depending on what the item say. if the item is a consumable the item will disappear after the use and all effects should have taken to affect (just like all other consumables).

you cant use it in wvw or spvp in any form… so how can this possibly be game breaking. its a nice thing to have from time to time if you happens to have one in your inventory. but its a very expensive revive. and ive never seen or heard about it being used in a game breaking way. if you want to talk about game breaking items please start a thread about the charrs invis for 10sec kit.

Legendary weapons are supposed to be long term goal, you should craft it in a year.
Legendary weapons are ment to be crafted by small portion of players.
There are hundereds of players that got their legendaries by legit ways.
They are not ment to be crafted by everyone. They are most unique, rare, prestigue weapons.
If you want to change anything, make them harder to obtain.

I can’t say I agree with OP with lowering the time needed to create the legendary for the average gamer
but I’m sure that the legendary doesn’t work as Anet intended them to work. as they were surprised by how fast people acquired there first legendary. as well as they do not full fill anything they would do “symbolize what you have achieved in this game” unless its supposed to be read like “symbolize how much gold you have made in this game” i don’t think its achieving what they said it would do.
I’m not going to go to indepth on this because I’ve already done that in another thread. so ill just put it in one sentence.
there is to much emphasis on gold and to little on actually playing the game (karma) and being skillful at it ( tokens / badges)
if you have the gold for it. the best investment i think would be in the unbreakable bell. its rather cheap for being a everlasting item. and i think this is the item that will go up fastest. so fastest money unbreakble bell. but i think the most money is in the normal bells but then u have to sit on them for 3+ months maybe more. don’t invest gold u need.
i’m not sure… but if something goes completely unavailable to acquire then the price is bound to go up. ie the halloween skin the crossing is at 60s i think and was 20 or something during the event. so its pretty much safe money. however, the increase might go quite slowly so don’t expect to make any quick money here. if you buy any, you should wait until mars at least so its a very long term investment. your decision.
if i could id take the bifrost over any other elementalist legendary. why? because i play almost only staff in dungeons and fractals ( staff is imh superior to any other weapon in dugeons for elementalist after that it would be aouramancer) in pvp DD is way better. but we cant use legendarys in spvp. and i prefer staff in wvwvw when im zerging and DD when i solo. but tbh most 2-handed legendarys looks better then the majority of the 1 handed but that’s just personal preference.
but the artwork on the bifrost certainly fits mesmers more.

I think it was a great guide and its very nice of him to make it. because if you are a new player u might not now much about leveling /how to gear your character once you dinged 80 or how to level the most efficient ( if that is what you want to do) it took me a while before i realized that those dungeon Armour pieces was just as good as any other exotic Armour. and if we are talking about waste of time and effort then you can consider yourself a victim to it as you apparently read it and bothered with commenting it. please, grow up or try and think before posting,
can’t agree more. I’d like to see more of the legendary done on the dungeon / wvw / from karma and less from " oh look i’ve been successful on the TP" why is it that there are people with more than 3 or even 4 legendarys and its only 4 month into the game … and some people who have played the game longer isn’t even halfway on the way to legendarys…

The underlying issue is that allowing arbitrary prices allows for huge market spreads. In a healthy, mature market, the bid and ask for an item are very close—everyone agrees on how much the item is worth at the moment. A huge bid-ask spread shows that no one really knows how much it’s worth, and this discourages transactions. If you post it too high, it won’t sell and you’ll lose your listing fee, and if you post it too low, you’re leaving money on the table people would have willingly paid. Thus, many buyers wait to post until the price converges and they’re more confident they’re selling at the correct price.
Allowing tiny adjustments to the bid and ask delays how long it takes them to converge. By posting an item for sale for 1c less than a 10g price, you’re not making any statement that you think it’s overpriced—you’re just gaming the system to sell sooner for a trivial reduction in profit. If the market requires reasonable-sized bid increments, then buyers and sellers either have to commit to the current price or move the bid and ask closer by an amount that matters, so they eventually converge.
To do this in a way that isn’t dependent on the current prices and prevent shenanigans, just limit prices to two significant digits. That’s easy for people to understand—you can only have two numbers that aren’t zero in your price. If the item is up for 10g, you either have to get in line at 10g or go down to 9g90s, no 9g99s99c nonsense. That way, the market spreads converge and people will have confidence in prices.
I haven’t though of this … the downside to it is that a item priced 12g would need to be undercut with 1g which is wayyy to much. it works good just at or just below the 10^x coppar prices but dosen’t work so well when its slightly above. if you understand what i mean.
the only way they could implement this is to make it based on the value. but that would most likely bring allot of confusion to the market house. and to be honset it does work pretty good but not perfect as it is today. I’d like to have the “must undercut with X% in order to undercut” rule. But its simply to difficult to implement and/or would bring to much confusion to the casual player base when using the trading post.

Up until November I would have gladly recommended you this game.
Unfortunately Arena Net has decided to introduce gear progression just like in WoW, and it was apparently planned all along while selling hundreds of thousands game copies on the promise that there would be no gear progression. In my eyes Arena Net has sunk really low, and the vertical progression introduced seems to serve no purpose at all but to make people angry.
That being said, your first 50-100 hours of this game will probably be the best investment you have ever made. If you plan to invest yourself personally and emotionally in the game however, I wouldn’t recommend quitting WoW until you see what is going to happen in January and February. Alleged “huge” patches happening then will make or break the game I think.
there will be no gear treadmill in GW2. all they did was add 1 extra tier of gear because they felt that the jump between legendary and exotic is to long ( witch it is tbh) once all the ascended items are out there will be no more gear tiers. ( atm there is only rings and back pieces 3/14 pieces in the ascended tier) yes more will be added but that is planed and once you have the ascended gear you will never need a upgrade tier. they have stated this here on the forum and on their official blogg. Stop telling people that there is a treadmill.

what the OP is suggesting is a scavenger hunt where the predecessor that you acquire from the hunt is soul bound on equip. but i think its better if the predecessors that you acquire from the scavenger hunt should be soul bound on acquire.

why not just have soul bound on acquire? I mean there is no point in having it as this personal quest and then selling it? sure you can sell the legendary you craft but thats another topic.

it doesn’t cap at 1min as SlimGenre says. I’ve manege to get to 3min and then my friend was back so we could continue the quest. so it could potentially be limitless but i think there is a cap.
I understand the OP’s point. I realize I’m going to have to spend a lot more time farming gold than I will getting dungeon tokens or karma. However, I’m approaching this legendary project from a different mindset. I really like playing GW2, and while I have acquiring the legendary as a long-term goal, I’m having a great time playing the game.
Granted, getting myself some magic find gear and going gold-farming once in a while is on my to-do list, I intend to mix in lots of wvw so that I’m still having a good time.
For someone like myself, sure, it would be nice if I needed LESS expensive crafting mats like Cores and stuff that costs gold, and perhaps MORE wvw badges. But that’s not the way it is. And I bet that solution would annoy anyone that doesn’t like pvp.
Or if the legendary required LESS gold and MORE dungeon token, that would make a pve dungeon guy happy, but annoy a pvp’er like myself.
Gold can be acquired multiple ways in this game, and that means I can do different things to accumulate that gold, so maybe it’s okay that the legendary is skewed toward having the gold.

you are spot on, on all points you are making. increasing the tokens and/or badges needed would only kitten of those players who doesn’t like dungeon and or wvw.
Karma can however also be acquired from all activities in the pve/wvw section of the game. and for hose who doesn’t like farming karma all day can always farm the fractals which have obsidian stones for sale. and to be honest karma dosent have alot of uses apart from gear. sure, some of the kittening materials are acquired from karma but that’s barely a karma sink. and late game most people already have their gear and then karma become obsolete. I can’t say I have much use for my karma, other then the legendary. i’ve already maxed out kittening and my gear for 2 characters and am soon done with my third. (only 1 have ascended so i’m not 100% maxed out i suppose) so having karma as a second major source to craft the legendary. the majority of the karma i’m getting i’m getting from the day/monthly’s ( 40 * 4500 * 1.55 is alot of karma for only 1 month)
think about that. I understand why badges / tokens cant be increased without having a major overhaul on how the legendarys are crafted. but karma have potential right?

Your accusation dictates that all those who are selling gold as a 3rd party are doing all of the things you mentioned, when indeed there is no real proof of it. Are there botters? Yes. Are there botters who aren’t Chinese gold sellers – they are actual players? Yes. Is every 3rd party service scamming people? No. Is every 3rd party service stealing credit cards? No.
as far as i am aware i said “either scamming or …” and not “scamming and …” on the contrary to what you think, I think think very few 3rd party service companies are scamming people. but the fact that there is some few had me to put it in there. far from every 3rd pary is scamming.
There are some services that have been around for a number of years, most of them are offer incredibly reliable service that obtain their wealth through regular play. Without the use of automated bots or hacks. As it stands, Anet is the only company who has ever made the accusation of such companies stealing credit cards from their purchasers. Of course they have not identified which sites or sellers these are. They only make blanket accusations with absolutely no citation of proof – other than they said so. And hardly any actual players to back up any proof that their credit card was stolen. This spanning across multiple games. Suspicious at best.

As far as botters are concerned, do you think Anet truly cares? They get their royalties from the people who buy the box. For every 1 botter they take care of, 5 more pop up in his/her place. Botting hasn’t declined a single iota since their ban-wave. They stand to lose more than they gain. And since most botters aren’t Chinese gold sellers in this game, they’ve learned they can make more money simply putting their farmed items up at going market price rather than having to severely undercut going rates. After all – they get their money just as quick and they’re getting more of it. It explains why with just as many if not more bots now, why inflation has held up.
botters ruins the game. if the games get ruined no one will play it. if no one plays there will be no gems bought therefore 0 money made. Anet want players. the more players there is the more gems are being bought and that’s a fact. sure they don’t have a subscription fee. but they still need players. also, removing bots removes the competition. and without bots there will only be “honest work” which is impossible to find in-game. and that even i will use sometimes ( not on a company level but with friends on a friendly level.)
The way I see things, the gem market goes widely unused. The price of gems per gold would have stayed much lower with higher transaction volume. The price of gems has instead skyrocketed over a very short amount of time. There’s no way anyone could know, but I would say Anet would be lucky if 10% of the entire player population between all servers – US/EU have made a single purchase of gems with real money. Much less for a 2nd or 3rd purchase. Low transaction volume + Anet manipulation of exchange rates / infinite amount of gems easily explains the sudden rise and current rising price over such a short amount of time since the game has been released.
only Anet sits on this information. but you are probably right that we would have seen a lower cost on gems if 3rd party companies would have existed but i hardly thing anet manipulates it. and if they manipulates it they are doing it poorly. if thy manipulate the market then they are trying to make the gem price be as low as possible because the higher quantity of gems traded the more gems goes down the drain in the exchange process meaning that they make more money. and if they would have manipulated the market we would have seen a much higher price on gems from gold.

regen is a over time tool. and requires training and planning to use at its fullest effect. if you want quick health use a heal…

balance issue. you can’t just say “i want shorter CD” the longer cd a spell have the more important it is that you save it for the right time. sure 240 cd is maybe to long i might agree but i don’t know what spell we are talking about. its a balance issue.

this comparison can only be made if we compare the true dmg delt / healing done. the healing is true healing, it cant be reduced in any way. however the dmg can. and the dmg isnt a 1:1 ratio always sometimes its better (dmg spells) and sometimes it weaker ( utility spells / auto attacks) if you compare it with the actual dmg done you might see that it isn’t so far from each other.( i don’t know but i think it will be)
- Now: No healt bar on the head of the allies.
Suggestion: Create allies healt bar.
Why: We need to control what is happening to our allies in the fight.
I think this can be applied to the enemy aswell. I want to see which one of them are the weakest/most wounded. so that i should focus him down without having to sap through them all. this is vital in all games becaus it is the foundation in making a well informed decision very quickly. try playing LoL without health bars. it should at least be a option in spvp. in pve i don’t really give —--.

The illegal market is huge. Don’t kid yourself. Anet also likes to demonize even the “legitimate” sites as stealing accounts / credit cards / etc. when that simply isn’t true. These sites are more expensive than the less known / less established / shady sites, but even then the value of gold people receive for their real life money is over triple what they’d get if they swiped their credit card for gems.
I don’t personally know anyone (real life and/or in guild) who’d ever consider sinking money into gems to convert to gold. But I know everyone who’d be more than willing to go to 3rd party sellers over Anet if they ever seriously considered trading real money for in-game currency. For the very reason of ridiculous “player driven” pricing. Hint, it’s not 100% player driven.
i dont now how big the illegal market is. i have no idea, i’ve never bought and have almost never visited their sites. but i do know that those that sell in game gold for real money are either scamming you or stealing accounts or botting. ok, there is one exception and that is playing the TP. but even then they are ruining the game in a form that is legal. and i don’t want anyone to ruin GW2, I don’t care if its illegal or legal. how do i know this? simple math. ATM the gemprice is at 50 gems / g meaning you get 1.6g / eu, meaning that if you want to make a decent living on this u will want to be making at least 4eu / h. 4eu/h is around 6.4g/h. and this is at 50gems / g. the sellers have to undercut this rather drastically because its a risk to buy gold from goldsellers ( you can get perma banned) i don’t know the current g/eu on these sites but even at the in-game price on gems are too low if you want to make a living on it. the only way someone can make 10g+/h in-game is to play the market and pretty heavily. So please, don’t kid yourself they are doing this legally or not making it worse for other gamers.
Hint: its not 100% player driven for a reason. ( remember that the only thing that Anet can gain on the trade from gems to gold is the % they take from the change. meaning they want us to trade as much as possible.)

you are wrong on 2 points; firstly when we speak of gold we speak of anything that can be traded via gold. i.e lodestones, predecessors and ectos. so if something costs 1 lodestone and 2 gold. the price on that craft would simply be the 2g + the cost of the lodestone on the current market. so when you compare 100g to 500 badges and so on, the comparison should rather be with 800g to everything else because the farmable materials can be bought of gold. it isn’t a 100% true comparison but its the closest we can get. the purpose on this is to simplify how much something cost to make. it’s alot easier to say it costs 10g to craft said item instead of 10 vials of blod and 20 ectos and whatever more is needed.secondly: even if we didn’t count this way, the minimal cost would be 120g
First, you don’t need that gold. If you read OP, he’s saying that the gold needed is too much compared to the rest. If we apply your logic to it, you need 1000-2500g and you are done. Which would mean 0 karma, 0 tokens, 0 badges, just gold and make this entire topic completely redundant.
Second…eh, recipes…i dun really count those…cause, well, they are smth you get in 2-3 days tops…
firstly I am the OP so i think i read it.
I also said that items that are trade-able can be included in the gold price. you can’t trade karma , or obsidian stones. you can’t trade dungeon tokens or badges of honor. you can’t trade gift of exploration or skill points.those things you have to do yourself ( or at least your account have to do it in some form)
translating karma or skillpoints to gold in this conversation wouldn’t serve any purpose considering it cannot be traded.
when we are taling about a cost of a item that is crafted ie legendarys or high end weapons we say it costs this:
X amount of karma. ( it isn’t 100% true any longer because obsidian stones can be acquired from the fractals)
X amount of skillpoints
X amount of dungeons or/and badges
X amount of gold ( and here we also include all the mats needed in the form of how much they are worth on the current market house.
+ other things (i,e gift of exploration.)
Even if you find everything yourself in the world that you need for something you want to craft. if you craft it, it costs you something because the mats you used had a value in gold. and the materials you use, could potentially been used to get gold. so we are rather speaking of potential gold rather than actual gold. in terms of actual gold yes, only 120 is needed. but in terms of potential gold we are talking about 700+g for some. and some legendary even are 1000+g and some legendarys are below 400.
and its funny you don’t count the recipes xD. don’t you count the dungeon tokens either? because the time to get those recieps are roughly equal to the time required to afford the dungeon gifts.

you wont get a response on things they are planing. and especially if you are asking for it (unless its a buggy/glitchy/exploitable material) they have already said to wait.
However. i think we might see something in the next two month as they have stated that the content added in January and February will “blow us away” and it would roughly represent a paid content expansion.
in a way you’re both right. they probably could keep the servers running for quite a while with just the money from the box sales. however, the gem stores helps to fund the monthly free content we are seeing out of arenanet.
and fishy, if gems were just another item on the TP, would you be OK with that?
Originally, I was going to say, “Lots of games prior to micro-transactions had new content,”—but, you’re right. Games like StarCraft, Guild Wars, Phantasy Star Online, etc. didn’t have new monthly content consistently coming out, and that needs funding from somewhere.
If gems were another item on the TP, assuming they can only be bought with gold, I’d be ok with that (but then gems would be pointless).
why are you against gems being bough by money ? that is the reason we can have events like halloween, Christmas,lost shore and so on. i mean i can see gems being a good thing to have on the TP then people would truly know its a free market. ( witch i’m 99.9999% sure it is anyway) Having it on tp would probably not be as good. But i don’t know but i think Anet made a very well informed decision when they decided it would be separate from TP.
Would 3hrs vs 1 hrs waiting really effect how fun trading in the TP is? Would it even be noticable for the causual player?
Yes. The difference between 1 hour, though most buy orders I’ve made come within 15 minutes, and 3 hours is the difference between getting the item that day and waiting until the next day. Again, if you even get it, or else you wait another day to see if you get it, then maybe start over.
That system essentially forces people actually playing the game rather than the market to buy or sell at the prices of people playing the market or wait an indeterminate period of time to enjoy content (either the items themselves or the areas for which they want better gear to explore). And it does it just to reduce risk and increase profits for the people playing the market. It is a straight up awful idea.
i can agree with you that a 3h or even a 1h wait would make a significant impact on the casual play style. and it would be overall a bad thing and it would’t necessary solve the problem either. and it would only make it harder for the casual player base. sure it would make it harder for the TP-players as well but it wouldn’t be worth it.
