Have more of the shouts affect the pet AND the Ranger and I’m good. Post the selfish versions as I can’t really agree with any of these as baseline changes.

The idea Heimskarl mentioned is absolutely worthy of a Grandmaster, though.
Oh, it is, but I explained why it’s a no-go. In fact, if they just added Fury to pulse on MDG, it would instantly have synergy and be vastly more powerful. His idea of was basically +20% damage, 6s of immunity to direct damage, and Fury every 2s with an ICD on one of the effects (egh). This is Ranger. We won’t see anything close to that.
People keep fiddling with an Adept’s tier concept of the below 50% health when it should be scrapped. Opt for something useful and practical, not creative and gimmicky. Quickdraw is the rare and perfect example of when Anet does something creative that works. MDG is a common example of when the balance team smokes too much skritt tonic.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I guess it depends. I was messing around with both during the beta and preferred using Scholar Runes if I had Blood Magic and Strength Runes if I didn’t. Having Vampiric Presence made staying at full health while in Shroud obtainable.
Without Vampiric Presence and the life siphons from mult-hit combos like Wells, Death Spiral, or even casting Locust Swarm before going into Shroud, Strength Runes were overall better since I didn’t have to worry about staying above 90% health.
That’s just my experience experimenting with both Runes on a Berserker Reaper in Verdant Brink during beta. Worth looking more into when the expansion and Raids release, though.

Yup. Unless you don’t slot any Shouts.

I don’t think “profession devs” really existed before now. I believe the entire team worked on things because whenever we heard changes, we heard them from multiple sources (Sharp, Peters, Karl, etc.) instead of just one source. As a side note, Peters is gone so that’s another benefit to us in the balance department.
Wait, when did Peters leave? I thought only Sharp was gone.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Don’t get me wrong, Stability is a strong boon, but why I think it wouldn’t solve much is because the 50% health threshold is still there. The only Grandmaster trait in all of the professions to proc when we are below 50% health is on the Ranger. Just no.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I doubt 10 IBs will be a thing, people will still want Phalanx.
That will all depend on how the Raids start. If there’s a small amount of down time before the boss spawns so people can pre-buff with 5 Eles + whatever blasts the other 5 party members can contribute, that’ll be enough Fury and Might for a 10 IB opener.
People will still want Phalanx, no doubt, but how many slots will that leave open?
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
You do realize they will never give a trait in Skirmishing to proc a Signet since those are thematically tied to Marksmanship with the new trait layout, right? Most would love to have Fury pulse, but it seems Anet is well aware that when they gave Remorseless a 25% increase with all of the bonuses of Opening Strikes minor traits, they botched up and probably won’t allow it do it becoming “too strong.”
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
That wouldn’t work either. Seeing how Anet likes to theme our traitlines, all the boons on the 40% and 25% threshold don’t belong on a trait in Skirmishing. QZ procing is more Wilderness Survival, unless it was plain Quickness, but due to Instinctual Reaction, they won’t think of giving us a 2nd trait below a health threshold with more since it may be too much quickness.
It’s also far too many health thresholds. When they do multi-tier, it’s usually at 25% increments. So far, we’ve seen them keep those mostly on passive stat traits because for them, they don’t want too many tiers on activated traits to become too complicated.

I will be completely extrapolating here:
For the expansion, a-net decided to allocate a specific developer to a group of professions. They still all decide together, but one is “more in charge”. These can be seen for the specialization patch announcement:
- Karl: elementalist, thief, guardian
- Robert: mesmer, necromancer
- Matt: engineer?
- Roy: ranger, warrior
Robert and Karl did their job in time for the elite spec (with Robert being great). However, Roy got too caught up with the revenant. So warrior and ranger got left apart. For the engineer, I don’t quite know if Matt is really in charge of it, or if anyone is for that matter.
To fix this, Robert took charge of the warrior spec. Karl having bad reviews for his own specializations is probably fully caught up with it. So I would not be surprised if Robert also takes care of the ranger (which would be a good thing).
In terms of communication, it has improved a lot for all the classes which have had their elite spec revealed. All profession forums felt abandoned, but now they have “regularly” developer posts. The problem of ranger and engineer is that they do not have dedicated developers right now. That means no discussion either. But as soon as their specs are out, I expect this to be fixed. I do not know if Roy will come back on ranger and warrior when the revenant is in a more finished state.
In any case, I have faith in the future because I really think a-net did NOT have a balance team before but now has one, and I just hope they will keep it that way.
Not even sure if Roy is more in charge for Ranger. Last I recall, it was Kui. And it seems when there are posts about which dev is doing what profession, everyone forgets about Kui.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I don’t know. Merging both wouldn’t solve much. Pulsing Might to begin with is pretty lame, and even though Engineers have pulsing Stability, it thematically fits the name of Juggernaut which was on the trait long ago. Granted, it made you walk back then.
Flat damage boost of 20% vs foes under 50% health and be done with it. Quickdraw is too good so Most Dangerous Game might as well be turned into a PVE direct damage trait since even Quickdraw is utilized on the Sinister build.

What do you mean by ‘newly selected’?
It’s when you use a pet selected from the pet management menu. Like, if you were to have a Lynx active then open up the menu and select a Jungle Stalker, the F2 boon duration with Lingering Magic would be 100% amplified instead of 50%.
This goes away when the pet goes down, the player goes down, the pet is interrupted, stowed then activated, or swapped out of and back to. Minor bug, but still a bug.

Responses from Persistent World on the REDDIT were (in order):
I’d really rather not discuss it. We chose to take it down and let’s leave it at that
I published it because I felt it had merit, that ArenaNet fail to engage with their community at a profession level, and that a discussion on it would be worthwhile. If other’s disagree that’s fine, but sometimes you have to weigh up the value of it remaining live over turning the node off. In all the years I’ve worked as a writer, I’ve only ever done it twice (this being the second time). That said, I’ve written about Guild Wars 2 for many, many years and 95% of all that I write is highly positive – of the 5% that’s negative, I feel all is fair and justified.
Unfortunately I’m not in charge and am only an employee. I don’t make those decisions and would very much like to remain employed. Yes we pulled the content but it’s very, very rare for that to happen.
As for this article, it’s actually party of a daily blog about Guild Wars 2, it’s not an editorial nor is it marked as such. I don’t feel anything in it was sensationalist:
I placed links where necessary. Pointed out a lack of communication from ArenaNet. Provided my own opinion on their communication.
That’s it – there’s not much more to it. People are fine to disagree and a handful did. But as a blog post, I’m not bound by editorial rules and as such, I’m free to write as I wish about any topic. I don’t believe it was overly hostile but it was to the point and importantly, why shouldn’t it be? Of all the content I write, a tiny proportion is negative and sometimes, so be it.
It wasn’t my decision to take it down, I’m just an employee

So people would be opposed to flying creatures attacking them and trying to drive them out of the sky to a falling death? Honestly I would expect this in HoT. Maybe I am wrong.
I would hope for both. Some areas where creatures attack you, causing you to fall into dangerous waters in the Maguuma Jungles. A fair mix of both aerial danger with underwater combat. I’d give bonus points if we had to out-maneuver Wyverns while flying in those territories.

I agree with Jekkt that the shouts need to be redesigned from the ground-up, except Heal as One and Rampage as One (don’t care for the new name) since they weren’t shouts initially.
I will say that TP’s suggestions are more along the lines of adding more to the shouts while staying within Anet’s vision of how they thematically designed them. Shouts are turds anyway, and unless they are going to be redesigned, they might as well be polished turds. It’s the best we can hope for.

I think for Anet to pull that article so quickly it would’ve needed some serious legal consequences on TTH. I did not read anything of the sort tbh.
Not really. For all we know, all it took was a phone call or e-mail and it was pulled. Stuff gets pulled all the time for various reasons without details being released as to why, let alone being made officially public.
It could have been an internal decision on TTH, it could have been because of Anet, but I think everyone knows the true answer of why it was pulled.

Another +1 from me. Not sure what’s happened to you though. That’s 4 solid threads of proposed changes within the day. How much coffee did you have? Haha!

I personally would be fine with the standard 20% cooldown reduction. Yeah, those are uninspiring and boring as traits, but they are straight-forward and aren’t clunky while trying to be creative. Keep it simple.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Who knows. Too many things in the background we know nothing about. I like to think they have a mobster type PR head that likes to use the censor and silence method. In turn, they can’t communicate with us because he doesn’t allow them to. They also can’t fire him because they fear for their safety and lives.

Yeah, I have no idea how it could mess things up either, but Anet has proven time and time again that they can bug things in magical ways. Also, that moment when I went in the game to test Windborne Notes without Lingering Magic, I was thinking:
“Well, I’ll test it by just putting 4 points into NM instead of 5.” Haha! First time since the trait revamp I forgot that we don’t have the points distribution system anymore…

Oh, I didn’t think about testing Lingering Magic with Windborne Notes. Going to dive back into the game and do a bit more then.
Edit: Nevermind. My brain raced ahead of me and forgot that I can’t test Windborne Notes without Lingering Magic. LOL

Giving a +1 to the idea of activating Marks after casting them. Annoys me how they won’t proc on certain structures (like world bosses) and I would enjoy using that Blast Finisher and Regen when it’s needed.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I want both. One future elite spec that alters the way a certain weapon(s) are used and another one that has adds a unique weapon (such as a Great Axe or Lance) to a class that other professions will never be able to access. Greedy to want both, I know.

Really that is your biggest concern?
Fine, increase Recharge aspect From 15 to 20%.
Kind of wished they made the DS recharge skills trait 20% to begin with. Just seems odd with all the 20% standard reductions, Necro DS has 15%. This also includes the old Dagger Mastery trait which was also 15% before the trait revamp.

also is ranger burn really the worse in the game (pro told me so)
Technically, worst burn in the game is Mesmer since it’s application on torch is delayed and randomly applied via staff auto.
Edit: Keep playing Sinister Axe/Torch. If you want more bleeds, swap Trapper’s Expertise for Sharpened Edges. You’ll have more bleeds & burn between the two without having to alter any of your gear.

This was brought to me by another forum member (not sure if they want to be mentioned) about Lingering Magic being removed on the Pet. I decided to do some testing and videos to showcase the bug, and found another contributing factor on top of it.
I will also be posting this in the Ranger Bugs thread and so forth. Just thought I would post it here so more Rangers can see it for those that don’t frequent the Bugs sub-forum.
Good hunting!
Edit: I must have been tripping kitten skritt tonic yesterday. The bug actually increases boon duration on newly selected pets by 100%. lol x)
