So, quick question: In dungeons with Sun Spirit during boss fights, would it be recommended to spawn the Sun Spirit relatively close to a boss to take advantage of the Burning of Solar Flare before it dies or spawn it in a safe place as usual?

Man, this topic keeps being bumped. Anyone think this will addressed? I might be getting a bit optimistic. >_>
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Yeah. Cheers for spreading this around. I’m giving it a second try as I’m not a huge fan of Axe main-hand. It’s definitely different from the standard zerk Ranger and I’ve been passing it onto my peeps to give it a shot as well.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Gonna give Axe a second try again. Guess I’ll get used to it like how I got used to Sword lol
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
I would also suggest a Sword + Warhorn/Axe variant. Though, I would drop Windborne Notes for Vigorous Training since Quick Draw will handle cooldowns swapping between the two.
Flame Trap & Trapper’s Expertise in place for Stone Spirit & Sharpened Edges for parties with no/a bad Elementalist so Warhorn blasts can shine a bit more. Protective Ward over Nature’s Vengeance if a PS Warrior just so happens to be in the run.
Kinda like pre-predator’s onslaught days but with some new tricks.

Well, they will have to add some pretty amazing things to Ranger WH, after you look at Tempest WH, ours looks like the worst support weapon in the game.
-snip-
Yeah, the Tempest WH compared to ours is… amazing (to say the least). It only got worse as I kept watching the POI thinking their shouts are better, too. Sure, the purposes are completely opposite since ours ties to the pet, but shoot, all that support the Tempest shouts offer while the only support ours can give is 10s of regen and swiftness when traited for? Ugh.

I’m hoping Anet does another line-up of Elite Specialization reveals and that Druid is among them.

You give up so much of what makes Guang’s build great. Your changes don’t improve the damage of the build. If it suits your tastes better, then great. But Guang’s build is the more efficient by far.
Not really. The major things I changed was taking a Sword over Axe on main-hand, Wilderness Knowledge instead of Empathic Bond, and taking Marksmanship instead of Beastmastery. Chose his alternatives for more burn focus since I was dropping bleeds from pets and axe.
Though, the Sword was done to suit my tastes. I would use Axe if I was doing his Rabid alternative but I’ve been a Sword Ranger for so long that I’m used to it. :P

The shadowstep portion reminds me of “Strike As One”. I wish that was on Hunter’s Shot and/or Sic ’Em. I agree Vigorous Training needs to be “dealt with” as the placement and purpose is mediocre.
Personally, I would love to see Stability Training make a return and be altered so that swapping pets grants nearby allies 1 stack of Stability for 3s and is a Stun Break.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
My speculation is Pet Swap changes functionality so you play as your pet and the AI takes over your Ranger.
Jokes aside, I don’t know what to speculate. All I can do is hope “it doesn’t suck.”

Oh, my bad. I didn’t know what to call the actual Counter portion of Counterattack. The block duration can remain the same, it’s that kick animation that I want sped up by a quarter-second.

OP mains a necro and opens a lot of threads where he goes on another class, calls it strong, and asks them to get toned down.
Aye, I’m familiar seeing him in the Necro forums as I lurk there myself since I am a Necro player. Guess when you main a Necro, a lot of things other classes have are strong x)

Just an idea for Ranger’s Greatsword. The Reaper specialization has a theme of being this scary monster swinging a Greatsword around in a powerful, yet slow speed. Warriors and Guardians both use Greatswords but theirs are more damage oriented than Rangers.
My suggestion is to have the Greatsword for Ranger more thematic to suit the class by reducing cast times for most of the skills to represent a more nimble Greatsword user, along with a couple of minor tweaks. I think faster cast times would benefit Rangers a lot while wielding this weapon.
Thoughts?
Greatsword Auto Attack Chain
- Slash: Cast time reduced from ½ second to ¼ second.
- Slice: Cast time reduced from ½ second to ¼ second.
- Power Stab: Cast time reduced from ¾ second to ½ second. Evade frames reduced from 1 second to ¾ second to compensate.
Maul
- Cast time reduced from ¾ second to ½ second
Swoop
- Distance increased from 1100 to 1200 to match other long distance movement skills.
Counterattack
- Cast time reduced by ¼ second of the actual counter – not the block duration.
Crippling Throw
- Cast time reduced from ¾ second to ½ second.
Edited for clarity on Counterattack.

I’m running a variant of Guangli’s Sinister setup in Dungeons and general PVE (such as Silverwastes) on my 2nd Ranger and it’s working well. Below is the dungeon setup I use but you can sub out Sun Spirit for Spike Trap at any time for utility purposes.

I don’t understand the point either as it just comes off as rambling. Whatever, guess people have to vent somehow.

- Give pets more attacks that cleave multiple targets. At the very least increase the number of targets on auto attacks.
- Allow pets to benefit from consumables.

This is the Ranger class after all – can’t have everything. :P

I’m leaning towards what Durzilla said since MoC specifically states “…by you…” in the description. It does not apply to other entities like Spirits. I don’t think Anet would allow Rangers to have a 6s AoE Daze on 20s when traited, that would be almost too good.
If they did allow MoC to apply to Storm Spirit, I would expect Anet to nerf the Daze duration to compensate.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Not necessarily, other skills have a shorter channel than their reflect.
Yeah, but those 3 other skills are more personal-based reflections, one of which is a heal, and can be used on the move. Whirling Defense design is more akin to group-wide reflections which, for the most part, are stationary once used.

It’s underwhelming, yes. It improves 1 of 2 Warhorn skills and provides Regeneration that is lower duration than the ones provided on “Call of the Wild.”
Warhorn itself is underwhelming, so Windborne Notes and the weapon itself are both offenders in my book.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Only things I can get behind is Winter’s Bite AOE becoming baseline and an extra bounce on Ricochet.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Yeah, if they removed the direct damage and increased condition stacks/duration it would be fine.

Been trying a variant of Guanglai’s build on my 2nd Ranger, opting for sword + torch / torch instead. Testing is still going on but I’m digging it so far. It’s definitely different from the usual Zerker Ranger. I’ll keep playing it and see how it pans out. Cheers, Guang.

Yeah, the radius indicator scales with the size of the pet (except Bears for some reason). It should be added to the list of bugs since this visual error also applies when “Go For The Eyes!” is traited.

Lazze quoted Irenio/Kui directly from the bugs sub-forum. I’m just pointing out Kui’s wording when he said “some” offhand range items.

Kui mentioned “some offhand range items”. Hoping Bonfire and Whirling Defense are increased at the very least of that “some.”

After extensive testing this claim is false.
How you manage not to see any difference between 120 or 240 radius is beyond me.
Bear, bird, spider 120
all others 240We don’t need trolls to come and input wrong info on this thread thanks
I’m asking myself how you managed not to see the difference between 120 and 240, too. What were your testing methods? Because from my results, it works with bears, birds, and spider F2 commands at 240.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
We knew they were busy with the expansion already, but as Puck said, I would rather they focus on fixing issues instead of an expansion. I fear that once Heart of Thorns releases, they will again be focused on releasing Living World content to expand the rest of the story, leaving more bugs at the back burner along with adding new ones.
As much as I want them to take a solid 6 months or so just fixing bugs and not dealing with creating new content, there would be another cry-out from a portion of the community (like currently) about a content-drought. Can’t win them all, but props to the Devs for dealing with it the best they can.

How can you say it only benefits offensive traps?
OP is referring to the added Cripple applying to offensive traps only. Thus, why he is proposing Healing Spring obtain a Resistance bonus from Trapper’s Expertise.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
One more thing
• Taunt: radius of many pets is currently half the intended radius (birds, bears, spiders)
I actually debunked this when I saw this claim floating around the Ranger sub-forum. Previous quote from Page 1 of this thread. Tested it with all pets just to make sure there was no variations and Taunt radius from Beastly Warden applies correctly to all pets. Disclaimer in the 2nd paragraph on some F2 commands being harder to land with it due to the nature of how the pet performs an action.
While on the topic of bugs, I would like to post a [Debunk] report I have seen floating around since the new changes. Some reports have mentioned that some pet families have a smaller Taunt radius than others when traited for Beastly Warden. After extensive testing, this claim is false.
I will add that some [F2] commands are more difficult to land the Taunt at max range (240) due to the nature of their execution, such as AOE [F2] commands that aid allies rather than target foes (ie: Brown Bear’s “Shake it Off”). Tested using “Guard!” while pet was on passive at “Maul” max range + 1 step back.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Sure, I wouldn’t mind some Resistance on Healing Spring with Trapper’s Expertise. As for Slow on Frost Trap, Anet seems to want to keep that condition limited among classes. It’s a powerful condition when used correctly, and so far, I have seen it on 2 moves – Time Warp & Forced Engagement – both of which have high costs (180s cooldown / 50 energy, respectively).
Though it’s a good suggestion, I don’t think Anet would allow such a powerful condition on a trap that can be traited for a 24s cooldown unless they bump up the base cooldown significantly (like Spike Trap when it received a knockdown), which would be a downside for those that use Frost Trap without taking Trapper’s Expertise.

Seems like Stances. Fits how they were interested before in “aspects” in the CDI. Keeping my expectations at zero so I don’t become disappointed, though.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
They could chainsaw CttB cast time and cooldown for all I care but that doesn’t change much. I would rather see Jade Winds require 100 energy and call it a day.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Instant cast would be nice. I would also be down for a ¼ second like “Feel My Wrath!” (Guardian elite shout). Either way, better than 1s.

And if you’re so jaded that you’re going to spend your time trying to shut down threads that are trying to get a message across that we can all agree with, even those of you with no hope, then it might be time to just take a necessary hiatus. I do it myself when I get too jaded, and it’s a very refreshing experience.
Sound advice that I can get behind. Reminds me of when I become so jaded due to all the Ranger nerfs I took a year off of the game. For anyone that looks at my post history, I had a few months where I was a complete skritt here. Ugh, troubled times…

I didn’t prepurchase, but I was under the impression revenant was complete garbage for PvE?
That was the impression during the last beta when people got to play the Revenant. The recent Points of Interest stream showcased the Shiro Legendary and from the demonstrations and what the traitlines have to offer, it looks pretty awesome for PvE.
Roy also posted on the Revenant sub-forum a lot of changes including a slew of damage buffs to weapon/utility skills across the board, so the Revenant feels “faster” during combat.
I guess the Revenant makes the point on what this topic is about; getting Roy to be (more) involved with Ranger development. Though, I do not see any drastic changes coming since they are busy with the Revenant, Elite Specializations, and so forth, but it would be nice to see what Roy and Kui can come up with collaboratively for the Ranger.
Again, I would not want to short-change Kui’s efforts (though I still bash Nature’s Vengeance – sorry, man). If one were to look at the Engineer changes, I bet Kui can shake-up the Ranger class just as much if he was allowed more room.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
To be fair, Roy just agreed and was not the one to make the call to move it to Grandmaster status. Most Dangerous Game being originally placed in the Adept tier of Skirmishing shows that Kui (probably) knew that it was not a powerful trait to begin with.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Let’s give Roy some credit. During the Live AMA stream, it was Roy that suggested the increased Trap Radius become baseline while it was still attached to Trapper’s Expertise.
He may not be as serious about Ranger during those segments, but he’s made some good changes on Warrior. This is not to short-change what Kui has done either, as Quick Draw was a high-point of the Ranger trait changes.
Even if Roy were to be at the helm of Ranger balance and development, I feel there are others higher up on the design and balance team that need to back off first, as there were possibly some great ideas that wanted to be pushed but were scrapped due to the higher ups giving knee-jerk reactions.

Agree with Heimskarl on a lot of things you left unchanged that could use a buff or rework. Also, every time I read “no change” I laughed being reminded of previous Ranger segments during livestreams. xD

Or, when they do, it is Bearbow. And they constantly refer to Bearbow, like all Rangers are ree-tar-dead bots or something.
Grouch does love his “Bearbow Bandit” Ranger.

+1
Dropped my Ranger entirely with the last patch that screwed up Healing Spring and only use it to look for or test bugs. I adore the class, but it’s difficult to justify bringing it any longer over another class. I also run an Elementalist (in my group) and decked it out in full ascended.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Crap, you used “Sic ’Em” on me and now I’m revealed
My reasoning is that Engineers have a lot of utility and tools at their disposal, so I can see Engineers taking advantage of the higher health pool with different bruiser and bunker setups. On the other hand, Rangers need more of a design tweak than a larger health pool. Though, either class would benefit from a larger health pool.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Only one I can agree with is the Forage item becomes our [F2] and maybe Quickening Screech. Anet likes their stuff fancy, so the best you can hope for is a reduced cast time on Quickening Screech, or have Swiftness replaced with Quickness.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Anet does have that pattern of at least one class in each of the armor tiers having a low, medium, and high health pool. I know I’m going to get flack for saying this, but I think Engineers deserve the high health pool over Rangers.

You cannot use SoH, it only affects your pet.

It applies active and passive bonus to both the pet and ranger.

1) You mentioned the damage portion of Moment of Clarity, which is Attack of Opportunity. Moment of Clarity is mostly tied to increasing the daze/stun duration. You can achieve Attack of Opportunity with Signet of the Hunt active.
2) Seems pretty consistent if you test with using a Signet to get Attack of Opportunity.
3) Many skill and utility tooltips displays the damage this way and does not weigh them as critical hits. Otherwise, every hit on my Barrage in my test setup should be hitting around 3k+ as a base 12×.
Also, birds on my setup read “(2x): 1156” – that seems pretty accurate seeing how their normal non-crit damage on a Light golem is around 700 for each hit, 640 on Med, and 540 on a Heavy.
Test your stuff again.

To be fair, they only get 3%, although it is a GM Minor trait too.
Recent update bumped up [Stick and Move] to 10%.
Also, I’d rather see Steady Focus as a GM Minor and have Opening Strikes & Alpha Training merged. Warrior’s [Stick and Move] and Engineer’s [Excessive Energy] (copy/paste trait) are both GM minors while ours is an actual trait.
