Qualifying for loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

XarOneZeroNine.2374

Damage done doesn’t affect drops.

From Colin Johanson

it is still possible to kill a creature and not do enough damage to qualify for loot

Damage does affect drops, but does it also affect quality is what I’m asking.

Again, damage does NOT affect drops. It doesn’t matter if you do 2000 or 50000 damage, as long as 2000 is enough to tag the monster, anything above that is unnecessary, and has no effect on quality of drops or anything else.

Just want to quickly add that officially that is correct, damage simply determines if you qualify, doing more damage DOES NOT give you better loot. The fix we’re implementing should make it much easier for characters who trait/build for support to gain credit for loot drops in particular.

A few questions about this Colin if you would be so kind.

How does this affect those of us that have solo’d champions only to receive no loot at all? It seems to me that if you solo something you should be guarenteed kill credit, but this is currently not what people are seeing in game.

Does this mean that a player needs to do a certain amount of damage over a certain amount of time? Or is there another factor that we can not see on our end?

Does this change mean that if you solo a champion you are 100% guarenteed to receive a drop of at least blue quality?

No real help on the events other than it seems like some of them have VERY specific conditions to trigger. Including nubmer of nearby players, whether it’s day / night ingame, other events triggering, dialog options, specific items needed and the list goes on and on.

Not to mention that some events are on ludicrously long timers while others seem to restart almost instantly.

Off topic, your screen name reminded me of the top-down shooter sega genesis game M.U.S.H.A. fond memories of playing that game into the wee hours.

Final Rest - Current Theories

XarOneZeroNine.2374

I really can’t give out any hints or information, especially since anything I say is going to be intensely analyzed. So I’m going to play it safe and not comment on the size of the boss, the chest, or the rarity of the boss. I will confirm that I looked in the game data and traced the item to its loot table to the chest that uses the loot table to the event that spawns the chest to make sure everything is set up. I can also confirm that it has a very low drop rate, so running the event 5 times or 10 times proves nothing.

Mr. Vaughn,

Is there any way it would be possible to give us a hint in the form of an eliminator? For example could you tell us the event we are looking for “is not in Kryta” or “is not in a zone below level 50.” Or something to that effect.

Something as simple as those elimination examples would go a long way in narrowing down the search over a very large world.

Thank you.

poss loot drop fix, check your clocks

XarOneZeroNine.2374

Hey everyone, I’m here to help clear up some of the confusion on this issue!

First, our apologies for the inaccurate response: your system clock does not affect your loot drops (sorry, conspiracy theorists). We’ve corrected this information for future responses.

If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.

Thank you for bringing this up!

So how exactly does kill credit work?

Scenerio:
I solo’d a champion spider and received no loot at all.
This reason for no loot is no kill credit?
If solo killing the champion/vet doesn’t provide kill credit what will?

This is just getting really old. Need something to spice things up a bit.

At this point I would like another hint. Nothing huge just something to narrow the focus down a bit from “anywhere in the open world.”

A hint like “it’s not in Kryta” or something similar. Then if no one has found it by the March update throw out another hint.

Switch weapons like you switch utilities

in Suggestions

Posted by: XarOneZeroNine.2374

XarOneZeroNine.2374

Agreed.

It would be nice if weapon swap stayed just like it is with the additional ability to put more weapon sets in an easy to use ‘slot’ that works just like switching your healing / utility / elite skills.

Having to open up your inventory panel just for an off hand switch or a ranged option or a defensive option or a whatever option would be great.

Also something like this would help elementalists that have been asking for out of combat weapon swap too.

Since it would be an out of combat only option I don’t really see any immediate game breaking issues. It is more of a quality of life / convenience update.

About three months ago I posted a similar thread asking a similar question.

Here is the post:

How often is the The Battle for Wychmire Swamp in Caledon Forest supposed to occur?

Last night we sat in a full party and completed Defend Falias Thorp from the Nightmare Court half a dozen times and Defeat the jungle troll champion about the same number of times.

In the time it took to complete those events, plus some other random ones thrown in the mix, not once did the Meta for The Battle for Wychmire Swamp begin.

All of us took turns talking to Gamarien to no avail.

In contrast the Fozen Maw event in the Wayfarer Foothills seems to be on a very fast reset timer.

Is there anything we need to do in order to spur the reset or setup the event to start before we talk to Gamarien? Is the event just bugged or something?

Any help or information would be appreciated.

Still no answer other than the reset timer for this particular event is measured in lunar cycles not hours or minutes.

It’s displaying the daileys based on your system time, but the server actually hands out credit for completing them. So you need to your system time to the correct time. (It’s probably set for the wrong date.)

So has anyone tried setting their system clock to February? Are we able to preview next months Monthlies as well?

Haha, oh wow. It actually works.

For February it is:
Monthly Dungeon Participation (3 tiers)
Monthly Event Participation (4 tiers)
Monthly Salvage Kit usages (4 tiers)
Monthly Completionist ‘’You completed your daily category multiple times in a month’’…?

And another fun fact, the monthlies for December 2013 include Tixx’s workshop. So I guess we can expect his return?
Edit: unless we have the same Christmas event until 2069 (didn’t bother checking further), I’ll just assume it’s set to a standard rotation

This is full of awesome.

Sigh…

The devs minds are made up. Whatever changes they alluded too are happening. No amount of reasoning, logic, anger, questioning, flailing or arguing will stop it.

Similar to the ascended gear situation this thread won’t get any response or explanation until long after the changes are in game. Then through some PR magic or AMA they’ll say ‘sorry, we knew players wouldn’t like the change but we did it anyway and we’re sorry. We’ll try harder next time’

AoE’s will be nerfed in some unknown form or fashion. If you don’t agree your only option will be to not play or at the very least, certainly, don’t buy gems.

Because if other people see the link the item is actually exists and it’s not them just seeing the illusion of finally actually getting a halfway decent drop…

Or as a reason for the group to keep going. As in ‘hey, look what I just got, if we keep killing maybe we’ll get more!’ kind of thing…

Or to spur conversation with new people..

Also how does the serial key work? As in, right now with the free upgrade to the delux edition. Will there be two keys delivered or just one?

Anyhow, I’d like to purchase the digital edition for a friend for Christmas. If it becomes too much of a hassle I think I might just buy a boxed copy (standard edition) and ship it.

Also is there any way to insure that we will be able to play on the same server? As it stands now I’m in a guild with several real life friends and it would be soooo much easier if our friend could join us rather than have all of us try to switch servers and lose our current guild upgrades…

Hello there,

I use a razer naga mouse and have been using it just fine here in GW2 until yesterday.

Yesterday I was unable to left click anything in game at all. At first I though my button was going out >:(
However I was able to hold down left+right and move forwards as intended.
I was able to use left click in other tabs / windows / programs.
I eventually noticed that even the cursor would not change into the little ‘talk bubble’ / ‘gear interact’ when moused over NPC’s and such.
I could not even click on other players in a party.

All in all pretty weird.

Then it got even more weird. A group invited me to run AC explorable. Inside the dungeon my mouse worked fine. Able to left click anyone and everything. Once completed and out of the dungeon it was back to how I described it above.

Is there a setting somewhere I buggered up?
Anyone have any idea how to fix?
Anyone have any clue what’s wrong or how this happened?

Thanks for you help.

Yes dyes should be account wide. This has been suggested before, and every time I see it I post my agreement.

Sadly though anet believes they will earn more money from the store by keeping them character bound. All I can say is that I will never buy dyes from the gem shop as long as they are character bound. Make them account bound and I’d buy a ton because I am impatatient and want all the colors

This has been suggested before and needs to be suggested more often as it is a very reasonable idea.

The ability to deposit is awesome. Now if it only worked for all crafting materials it would be over the top fantastically super awesome. Materials like ‘onyx sliver, karka shells’ and even event crafting materials need places in the tab.

Also I would throw money at them if they would allow me to purchase an expanded stack size. I’d buy as many as they would sell. The ablility to increase the 250 stack limit is something I can’t believe they overlooked.

I’d love to see the event items get their respecitve slots. The new mini-pets received new slots and it should be the same for every new crafting item / collectable.

I’d also like to see slots for the special crafting materials like ‘Onyx sliver’ etc.

On a related note I would throw money at the gem store if I could increase the stack size over 250 as well. Like with bank slots, I should be able to buy more ‘collection tabs’ by increasing the maximum allowed stack size.

Welcome to Earth, where no matter what your personal stance or feelings are, thousands upon thousands of people think exactly opposite as you.

I’ve dropped around 500 dollars on dye alone, personally.

I think you might have missed the part I bolded. If not I submit the following.

My response to your ‘welcome to earth’ is exacly the same the same response you gave to me. No matter your stance or feelings, thousands upon thousands think the opposite. For everyone that spends $500 on character bound dyes there are an unkown number that spend 0$ and another unknown amount that spend somewhere in between.

As I said we don’t have the sales numbers to make the call. I can only say that they have lost my purhcases by going with character bound dyes.

Was all $500 on one character? If not wouldn’t it be a more enjoyable purchase to have $500 worth of dyes unlocked for more colors than to have overlapping colors with the same amount spent?

Are you going to spend $500 dollars for each character? If not there is no reason not to make them account bound for more enjoyment from your purchase. Happy customers buy more.

Have you unlocked all the dye colors? If not, holy moses, this solidifies the fact that I will never buy dye from the shop.

Is your $500 dollars an equivalent value? As in the value would be $500 worth of gems but you used some gold to gems conversion in order to make the purchases?

Just curious.

I would love to see the dyes be unlocked for the account.

A lot of people think along the same lines as Turkman does, however I would like to say that this line of thinking may not be entirely correct.

I know for a fact that I will not buy any dyes from the gem store as long as they remain character bound. If the dyes were account bound I’d certainly buy quite a few and most likely attempt to unlock all 400+ colors.

As it stands now they are losing my purchase alltogether.

If the argument against is that everyone will unlock all the dyes and never buy more, my counter would be: If that is the case then you have a gaurenteed sale every time you release a new color, which will generate gem store sales and remove gold from the economy (from using gold to buy gems).

The truth is we don’t have the numbers to go over or the sales stats to be able to determine which way generates more money. All I can say is they would absolutely generate more money from me if the dyes were per account.

Not only do more items need to go into the crafting / collectables bank but there needs to be an option of raising the 250 stack size available in the shop. Just like you can add more bank space you should be able to increase your crafting / collectable stack size.

They add the slots for the new pets so they should definitely add the slot for the new ingredients as well.

I can say for sure that I know of at least a dozen people that would buy way more skins from the cash shop if:
1) They had a separate place to store them.
2) They were account bound.
3) Multiple characters could wear the skin without removing it, placing it in the bank, swapping characters, getting item from the bank etc.

P.S.
These same dozen people would also buy more dyes if the packs weren’t grab bag style and were usable for the whole account as well. As it stands now it’s just too exspensive to really go for it in the cosmetic department for people who have more than 1 or 2 alts.

The reason this thread is even still here is so that Anet can ignore one thread instead of all the ones that would pop up if this one was closed.

Arena Nets silence is telling.

They don’t care. They don’t want feedback that disagrees with their ‘vision’. What was implemented on the 15th of November is only the beginning. This is the way the game is going to continue.

If they did care, at all or even a little bit, there would have been a response by now. The answers provided by the Kotaku Q&A were to a subset of filtered questions. They chose the ones they could answer is the vaguest way possible so as not to futher fan the flames.

All fires burn out eventually if you ignore them long enough. That’s what they are waiting for. People who disagree with the new path the game is on are simply upset toddlers in their eyes. They will let these players get all the rage, hate, disappointment and saddness out of the system and simply move on. This thread is a glorified ‘time-out’.

It is the damge left behind from the fire that concerns me…

You would think that we would get some sort of response to all of this activity.
And no I do not want another link to the blog post saying that explains it all. It, in fact, raised more concerns and makes a certain CM’s sarcastic twitter post look foolish.

I feel justified in asking for a more in depth, actual, official response to legimate player concerns that are being raised in this merged abomination.

People are quoting Mike O’brien and Colin Johanson, linking the manifesto etc. pointing out how this new change is against everything we were told.

Why does flanking strike blow so hard?

in Thief

Posted by: XarOneZeroNine.2374

XarOneZeroNine.2374

The problem with Flanking Strike is that it is so unreliable. It only really hits stationary enemies and when the enemy is moving the evade may send you in the completely opposite direction you want to go. The skill itself is pretty nice for it’s cost, it removes a boon, does evade and deals comparative damage to C&D for less initiative but that is only if both parts of the skill hit.

This is all very true.

The solution to this problem is to improve the likelyhood that the skill hits. For this reason I think they should split the skill into a chain skill. Make the first skill in the chain the first attack that does the smaller hit + evade and the second skill the more damaging sword strike. Naturally the initiative cost would be split between the skills, either in a 2-2 or 3-1 split. This makes the skill much more useful because:

  • You become much more likely to hit with the second attack regardless of where the evade takes you since you control if or when the second strike happens.
  • If your first attack misses, you are not locked into a useless animation that takes up more time since you aren’t forced to use the second attack if the evade moved you out of range.
  • It gives the thief more control over the skill itself. It allows the thief to use the skill more for the evade or for just the boon removal if they want to save initiative or for more damage with the complete chain.

And this is an excellent suggestion. I sincerely hope the skill behaves this way one day.

Buying Starter Armor

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: XarOneZeroNine.2374

XarOneZeroNine.2374

If you mean the head pice you chose during character creation you will have to create a new character with the same armor option then transmute it over to any armor you like and the skin will now be free to use on your main. You have to make sure that the armor you transmute with isn’t soulbound though.

Is this really the only way to obtain that particular skin again?

For example if I wanted the Anonymity Hood for my thief, who at this point no longer had access to it. I would have to

1. roll up a new thief , choosing the options to get the hood
2. transmute the hood skin onto a generic non-souldbound white
3. transfer the item to the character that wants the skin
4. transmute to the desired item.

That seems cumbersome. It would be nice if there was another way to just repurchase your starting headgear skin from somewhere.
