Keep in mind that sPvP/tPvP (Arenas) is different than WvW (World-vs-World). WvW uses PvE rules and some of the abilities in sPvP/tPvP are not the same. You will often need different builds (actually multiple builds) for both depending on what you are doing or who you are doing it with.

OOC Swiftness is annoying as a Mesmer. Probably the most annoying part is the swiftness from Focus that is not refreshed by any other swiftness in the game.
Many Necros and Guardians are starting to use Traveler Runes, just like many Mesmers are.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
This is a great thread.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Form the GW2 wiki…
(1) +25 vitality
(2) +20% swiftness duration
(3) +50 vitality
(4) 5% chance to gain swiftness for 30s when hit. (cooldown: 60s)
(5) +90 vitality
(6) +25% movement speed.
The (6) +25% movement speed is bugged.

Nice Crit Damage! Looks like a winner!

20/20/30/0/0 with Traveler Runes
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Here is my variation of the WvW Blackwater condition build but with traveler runes. It works pretty well.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Must be my PC at work cause I can’t see your stream.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
They haven’t.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Ha ha Oceanic on YB? They aren’t hiding, there are just so few of them.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Actually i have noticed this and this is what we see as YB.
We see a decently sized SBI group and decide to defend/siege a tower/keep, if we managed to defend, 2 mins later a group twice the size will come back and wipe us. Same as attacking any structures, beat you guys back once, more seems to just spawn out of no where.
I’m sure SBI is bored with this matchup and any opportunity that they can get to fight, get karma, bags, etc. they will take it. That’s why you are seeing large incoming SBI after the initial engagement.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I see celestial as okay at everything, really great at nothing.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
To be honest, veil is extremely strong already in WvW. It’s pretty much an “I win” button for a mesmer commander.
Yes but it pays for that WvW power by being absolutely rubbish on it’s own.
And that’s kinda… meh.
I’d re-implement it to make it a bit more overall useful:
Veil
kitten CD, 10s duration
Creates a wall which makes it impossible for anyone on one side to see someone on the other side. Such a target is not in line of sight. Ground-targeted or manually-targeted effects can reach past the wall, however. In other words, any two targets (independent of allegiance) on opposite sides of this wall see only the terrain behind it. It cuts out an area. It acts as a full LoS-block but not against GTAE or Line AE targets placed beyond the wall, and also since it never actually grants stealth it doesn’t break any targets. However, as far as targeted abilities go, it’s a full LoS-break, but works in both directions.
Sorry that could be used by spies in wvw who transfer servers and who could troll people on his side by dropping it to hide a zerg.
I would just love to see a reduced cooldown on it. Or maybe add condition removal when running through it.

In your ingame settings; what is your audio device set to? Does it just say “default”? Try setting it specifically to the audio device you want to use.
Yup that was the first thing I did was change those setting to select different devices but still no luck.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I submitted a ticket with the game advisor info attached to it.
I guess other players are having the same problem.
When does this game come out of beta?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
…and my audio is still not working today.
During the Tequatl fight last night, my GW2 audio stopped working. Mumble was fine during the fight. Since then, I have not able to get GW2 audio to work again.
I have deleted and re-installed the client. I have deleted the GW2 dat file in the user library but still nothing.
Mumble, youtube, OS, and other games and app audio is fine.
Help?

SCEPTER
Scepter is the not-as-good main hand alternative to the sword. While it lack’s the sword’s DPS, mobility, and defensive capabilities, it is capable of providing high condition damage, spawning clones off its auto, and attacking at range.
PROS- Superior for Condition Dmg builds / The only ranged 1h weapon (900 range)/ Rapid clone production
CONS- Lousy power damage / Lousy defense
1) Ether Bolt/Ether Blast/ Ether Clone – The Scepter auto chain is … lacking. While it provides better damage than the staff, it still falls short of the 1h & 2h swords. On the bright side.. the third hit -though painfully slow- spawns a clone.
Though it’s a ranged attack, the auto chain is more effective the closer you are to your opponent, this is because the next part of the chain activates after the previous bolt hits.
You can delay casting the third part of the chain for up to around 3 seconds. (Example: Scepter auto 1, auto 2, summon phantasm, auto 3) If you’re in combat, you can preemptively swing the first two parts of the autoattack out so you’ll launch the third immedietly.
In or out of combat, if you are out of range of your target, you can preemptively swing the first two parts of the auto attack and then when in range (and within the 3 sec delay), use the third auto attack to summon a clone on your target immediately.
Arcane Thievery (45- 36 sec CD) Arcane Thievery, like a bad relationship, steals 3 boons from an opponent while generously replacing them 3 of your conditions instead. The skill can make you laugh or cry. It literally throws the opponent’s conditions back on them, using their own condition damage to calculate, er, damage. It’s also great for stealing boons from some bosses and player opponents (Warrior, Engineer, Necro for example). Arcane Thievery is not unblockable, and thus affected by Aegis, Blinds, evades, invulns, range, and line of sight making it very dangerous as a build’s lone form of condition removal.
I thought they patched Arcane Thievery so that it is not blockable anymore. Wiki also says unblockable. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Thievery

Perplexity need an ICD on the 6/6. I mean, these runes really make condition builds for Mesmers viable again but they are stupidly OP for other classes that can reliably and constantly interrupt like Engies, Thieves and Warriors.
Or, just change the 6/6 to 25% Swiftness.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Always a great time playing. Yak’s Bend, there are so many of you guys, it reminds me of playing T1
Yeah, we’ve said the same thing when fighting larger population servers like Mag, FA or DB. Unfortunately population is one of the biggest failures of Anet’s WvWvW.
I wish we had a more even match up this week.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Definitely traveler runes.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Main hand scepter would not be a good choice if you are trying to keep 3 phantasms up.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
You can bring a Greatsword to help you learn the fights and for some fights where range is more practical. Keep in mind that melee is more DPS than ranged attacks.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
It seems on our server that our zerg group doesn’t get close enough to the head that I can drop Wardens.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I think Engies can keep up 21+ stacks of confusion without breaking a sweat.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Perplexity are not OP on Mesmer’s, they are OP on other classes that have tons of interrupts like engineers, warriors and thieves.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I really like this build but ever since I switched my Mesmer (and Necro) over to Traveler runes, I don’t know if I can go back to being so slow.
So here is my take on Natsu’s Blackwater build…
It is basically the same build except it uses Traveler runes, slightly different jewelry and Sigil of Might on both Scepter and Staff. Once you reach 25 stacks of Corruption, you swap out Torch for another Torch with Sigil of Bursting (6% Condition Dmg).
I also swap Null Field out for Arcane Thievery at times.
At this point I’m not sure if the Sigils of Battle are worth it or if I should use either the sigils of the original build or some other sigil choices. The Battle sigils do replace some of the extra damage that is missing from the loss of the Perplexity runes but I am not sure if Sigils of Earth or Blood would be a better choice.
Thoughts?
edit: updated with higher level consumables and changed to Condition Duration food.

If you haven’t picked up any zerker pieces, try getting a set of assassin’s armour, weapons and trinkets and see how that works out for you. Berserker is usually the “go to” gear choice for PvE, but Guang calculated it was I think 1-2% more efficient than Berserker on a mesmer. Unless of course money is an issue, in which case it’s probably cheaper to get zerk pieces from dungeon merchants if you run COF, COE and Arah enough.
Oh really? Assassin’s slightly better than Zerker’s for PvE? Do you have a link to the math Colesy?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Have them on both my mesmer and necro.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
So Warlock (with Phantasmal Haste) hitting a target with conditions would do:
5 conditions – (97 base x 50%) + 97 = 145.5 dps?
6 conditions = 155 dps
7 conditions = 165 dps
At 7 conditions, is this our highest DPS phantasm?
Oh wait…didn’t take into account bleeds from duelist and iswordsman.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I also swap staff out for sword/pistol which is pretty good. I am also using Traveler runes which I love.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I have been running a variation of the Blackwater build using Traveler runes and love it. Unfortunately I can’t see myself using any other runes now which is sad because there are so many good runes out there.
Now our class is stuck again with one rune set if you want speed.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Just to add, probably the best Mesmer I have ever seen.

Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Asura are harder to target in wvw, spvp/tpvp although if their gear is harder to see because of their size.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
PVT gear is good for MM, (maybe with a mix of assassins for more prec)
Also rampager’s gear is good for hybrid setup , 30/30/x/x/10 and scepter+dagger/axe-focus.PVT for pve.. too much unnecessary survivability, rabid now is enough to survive anywhere.
Rabid is not effective on the Tequatl fight.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
For dungeons,
0/20/0/25/25
Full Zerk (ruby orbs)
sword/focus + sword/pistol or sword/sword
GS for those rare fights where you must have some ranged or where I am not so familiar with the fight.
I would love to see a thread with tactics on certain bosses (dungeons and fractals).
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Have any game play video with this build Sensotix?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Phantasms may still die on Golem Mark II but I think it is more due his knockback. In any case, they stay up for quite a while usually.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
If you have 3 Phantasms out, producing a clone will overwrite your oldest Phantasm. Further clones will just keep overwriting your clone.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Confusion is terrible for PvE. Even if you decide to run perplexity runes for PvE, most only run 5/6 Perplexity with the 6th rune being one that just gives +28 Cond Dmg (like Krait).
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
The Bloodlust buff should provide other things rather than 150 stats.
Ideas such as:
1. Supply camps re-supply quicker for camps your server holds
2. Structures require less supply to upgrade while your server holds the buff
3. Maybe siege damage is increased while you hold the buff
4. MF% increased, Badges increased, consumable buffs last longer while buffed, etc.
5. Supply Dolyaks move quicker, carry more supply, are slightly harder to kill if you have the buff
Some examples that could be looked into.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Im not gonna read through all the garbage on this thread against the patch, but I will point out that:
IT ONLY TAKES ONE PERSON TO BACK CAP / DECAP / CAP a point.
If you are so serious about WvW, why dont you take 1 person from your guild (who enjoys PvP) and let them do the capping…One person, your zerg spamming #1 will not miss one person.
It may only take one person to decap but usually the server with the buff leaves a defender at each point and this defender will have the buff with increased stats. Trying to kill this buffed defender one on one won’t be easy and f you are already outmanned with no buff, probably impossible.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Also experiencing this as well.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
After using Runes of the Traveler on my necro, I feel so slow on my Mesmer. Anyone using Runes of the Traveler with this build?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Great vids Vash.
I’m curious as to how effective this build would be with Runes of Traveler.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Shatter and Golem Mark II it is no problem keeping iDuelists up. For Teq, it was suggested in these forms to put 3 iWardens on his head and they shouldn’t die but I haven’t tried it yet myself.

Thanks but the link doesn’t show the armour, weapons, jewelry, sigils or runes that you are using.

This week in WvW, ran into an opponents guild that ran nothing but Guardians and Warriors (about 15+ total). They destroyed their enemies with their hammers.
