It does give Precision, you can check the stats yourself. It simply has incorrect text.
Oh, you’re correct!
Okay Anet, fix the tooltip then.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Sharpening Stones give Power. Maintenance Oils give Precision.
EXCEPT…
Quality Maintenance Oil is ‘Gain Power equal to 5% of your toughness’. This should be Precision, not Power.
There is a 5% Power Sharpening Stone but not a 5% Precision Maintenance Oil.

Get 3 up and shatter. They will chase your target and while this is happening, get 3 more illusions up. If you target is running around in a circle avoiding the illusions then you can summon 3 more and shatter again. Now you have 9 up.

Greetings, Matthew Medina has asked me to pass on some explanations/clarifications:
There’s been some confusion and spirited conversation regarding the Candidate Trials, and I’d like to take a minute to clear up some of the concerns that have been raised about this content. There’s a lot I’d like to cover, so I hope you’ll bear with me. ?
Difficulty – From the beginning, we wanted to create an event that would truly test player’s abilities to survive, whether solo or in groups. That’s when we came up with the concept of the [Challenge Event]. We wanted to create an event where it was easy to get bronze participation, moderately challenging to achieve silver, and difficult to get gold, and to provide an escalating difficulty curve by making use of tiers that got progressively harder, and progressively harder again with groups. We knew that this would not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we also know that there are many players who are eager to challenge themselves in this way, and we stand by the decision to include content for those players. We made sure to make the lower tiers as accessible for all players and play styles, and the upper tiers (III and IV) a serious challenge! Now, there’s hard and then there’s impossible. I can assure you that completing Tier IV with a group is absolutely possible, but it’s not in any way easy, or even feasible for an uncoordinated group. It requires the utmost concentration and communication, and so our expectation from the beginning was that only a small number of groups would accept the challenge, and even fewer would succeed. I’ve been impressed by the many different methods players are finding to solo Tier IV (Ii’s a feat even I myself have yet to achieve) but I’m just as eager to see what groups come up with to overcome this challenge!
Rewards – There has been some confusion about the most optimal way to acquire the rewards in this event. We are seeing some players contend that the lowest risk option (staying up near the plunderer spawn points and away from the treasure piles) at the highest tier is the optimal path to acquiring an Aetherized weapon. This is wrong…somewhat. ? Employing this method will get you enough kill credit to earn one or two loot bags, but your chances for getting an Aetherized weapon actually increase with each subsequent loot bag that spawns. So if you really, really want to get your hands on some wicked Aetherblade gear, you actually stand to gain much, much more by taking more risks and defeating as many Aetherblades as possible at the highest tier you can manage. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
Achievements – There was an initial bug related to how we were tracking player’s progress through the tiers, which did not quite match up with what achievements you had unlocked. We made fixes to that bug, and now player progress for the tiers should be tied to what you’ve unlocked, achievement-wise. There was also an unfortunate bug which was fixed earlier today involving an issue where some of the Aetherblade waves would not spawn. The first bug made the achievements hard to understand, while the second made the achievements easier to attain. I deeply apologize on behalf of our team that these issues led to a less-than-optimal player experience. With these issues fixed, our hope would be that the achievements for the Candidate Trials are clearer and better balanced for their intended difficulty.
I think that covers most of the concerns I’ve read, but the team will continue to monitor feedback on the forums, and if further clarification is needed, rest assured that we will communicate that out to you, our amazing players! Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

So I completed the Gnash trials however after doing the all 4 Kiel trials multiple times, it still won’t give me the achievement. I haven’t tried for a few days though.
Does this mean that it is fixed?

Zerkers, Knights, Valk, Rabid and some PvT are popular stats for Mesmers. Don’t invest too much gold in Carrion/Rampagers, especially for WvW.
Also Condition damage is pretty weak for most of PvE.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I would hold off buying Ascended until Anet announces what they are going to replace MF with. Berserker’s Jewelry/Weapons & Knights Armour is a good start. You will want to have multiple armour/weapon sets anyways.
I have 7 sets or armour (2 x zerk, 1 knights, 2 rabid, 1 PvT, 1 mixed zerk/knights/valk) and almost 30 different weapons with multiple sets of mix/match jewelry. It’s cheaper to buy new armour than to salvage due to some rune/sigil costs these days.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I used Esplen’s build.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/cutthroat/Candidate-Trials-T4/first#post2475022
I haven’t tried it since the ‘patch’ though.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Lose the MF on your gear (unless you already have Ascended Accessories). MF isn’t worth it and Anet is removing it from armour/weapons/jewelry anyways.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
This is my mesmer: Shalene Amuriel
What gear is that?

Thats quite useful but we have plenty of ways to get out of stuns. I always run Mirror Images and Decoy, MoC is an option as well
I run Decoy, Blink and usually Signet of Inspiration when grouped. When I get close to 25 stacks of Might, I share them with my allies. Otherwise when solo, I trade out SoI for either Mirror Images, Portal or even Signet of Midnight for the Boon Duration & Blind.

Yeah, I have completed Gnash but it is Kiel that is bugged or something. I tried 1-4 again the other day for Kiel but it still did not complete.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
-60% Condition Duration also = -60% Stun Duration.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I have completed all the trial solo multiple times. The reason I say multiple times is because for some reason the achievement will not complete for me. I have gone in and re-run 1-4 in order again but still no completion. I opened a bug report.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Hoelbrak runes+Bountiful Interruption+Focus’ Into the Void+Dispersion = 25 stacks of Might for the lulz.
Thinking about getting 2 Hoelbrak, dont think 6/6 is needed
6/6 Hoelbrak = -20% condition duration applied to you.
Add the -40% condition duration food.
-60% Condition Duration is pretty good imo, especially since conditions are the latest OP meta, even in WvW. You don’t have to run condition removal.

On second thoughts, Mesmer elites fail to compare to most other class elites.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Are Mesmers only taken for their utilities like Portal, Time Warp, Veil, Illusions of Life now? It seems that their DPS potential is pretty weak now when compared to most other classes?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Where can i get all of those accessories from? Are they all from laurel? I’m still fairly new to the game. IF its laurel.. Goodness this will take forever haha
Ascended Jewelry is from Laurels. The ascended rings also drop in level 10 and up Fractals. You can also get Ascended Accessories from Guild Commendations. Finally, ascended jewelry can also be purchased in WvW for gold+badges+reduced laurels costs.

The only thing I would like to see changed with MI is reducing the cooldown.
Otherwise 5 sec of stealth (which is stackable) for 10 players is pretty good.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I can never figure out who will or won’t be stealthed by mass invis. It seems like in 90% of the cases only some random people get stealth and everyone else just continues along
So it’s even more useless. Consecutive veils from multiple mesmers seems to be a more reliable way to stealth group.
One reason is if one of your allies used Shadow Refuge to stealth but broke out of it early, they will have the revealed debuff. if you use Mass Invis, they won’t get it.
Mesmer stealths don’t give the revealed debuff if you come out early.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I am having the same problem with Gnash.
Says I have to complete tiers 3 and 4 of Gnash and says I am 1/2 Tier 2 but I just did 1-4 in order again and the achievement won’t complete.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I am not receiving credit for this achievement. I have done all 4 levels at least twice now and it still shows incomplete.
It says: Tier 2 of 2 1/2 Tiers Completed
It was saying this yesterday so I logged in today and completed all 4 levels again and it still won’t complete.
When I first tried this, I was in a group and I am not sure which level was chosen first but it is now bugged for me.
Please fix.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Two thieves in WvW are really OP. The problem is that 2 thieves in PvE (e.g. fractals) probably not so much.

Ravager
This line is dedicated to field combat and will help organised groups/guilds to deal with skill-less and mindless blobs. Also a bit helpful for destroying enemy siege without building counter-siege.
Destroyer – You deal 25% more damage to siege weapons with normal attacks. [5 pts]
Punisher – You deal 10% extra damage to upscaled players. [10 pts]
Focused – You recieve 10% less damage from AoE attacks. [20 pts]
Finisher – You deal 25% more damage against downed enemies. [40 pts]The line above should give organised groups a small boost. Blobs tend to run with a lot of upscales. A big problem when fighting big blobs is that there are 20 downed enemies on the ground but you can’t manage to finish them because you got 30 other enemies chasing your small groups. While the AoE limit punishes both blobs and organised groups, i believe that AoE spam (fire and forget) is way too effective in blob play. smaller groups just get demolished. This ability line also helps with that.
I don’t see this one solving any problems. This would make zergs stronger too. In most zergs, people join into 5-man parties.

Fix is simple, limit the amount of players per map from each server. Those on larger servers will just have to wait in que, or move to a lower pop server. They could also add more maps to accommodate the lower players per map. It won’t work perfectly but I think it would help, it would also help on the lag.
there is a third, and MUCH cooler option. have champion strength NPC’s randomly take towers.
Imagine if you have, say, one of jormags servants suddenly taking over Hills. Random timer, so it can’t be made “preparations for it”. Only warning you get is a 5 minute notice in the form of “World event notice”. Then suddenly, BANG a sea-snake charges bay or a mega ogre something takes hills…
You’d need a zerg to stop em. And they’d defend the towers fiercy, if they managed to get em.
Say you lose hills to a NPC. The walls would have patrols on them with veteran strength NPC’s. You’d have to siege it, and the enemies would be no less challenging then fighting a small zerg.
We DON’T need more PVE in WvW.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
There is a stealth/invis bug where if you use certain abilities while stealthed, your character’s stealth animation goes away but you still have the stealth/invis buff.
For example:
Mesmer – use mass invis or veil or decoy then use Blink – your character model loses it’s stealth animation but you still have the stealth buff.
Thief – same thing – stealth with refuge or whatever then use short bow blink (forget the name) and your character loses the stealth animation but still remains in stealth and has the buff.
Your opponents still can’t see you but it is still an annoying visual bug which makes you have to check to see if you are stealthed or not.

I don’t use DE in my Shatter build as it would overwrite my phantasms. This is
Um, what? I think I’m confused. In a shatter build, aren’t you, uh, shattering? That should get rid of your phantasms quicker than an overwrite, right?
Anyway, I agree that DE is awesome, but mandatory? Nah. Phantasm builds likely would avoid it, and I don’t like it with the WvW roaming build that I use (I don’t want a clone showing where I am if I dodge while stealthed). Still, out of the 20-point Dueling traits, it’s likely going to be taken more often than others.
kitten moment.
I meant that I don’t run DE in my PvE phantasm builds. I need more coffee.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Whether solo or in a group… you can finish Trials on T4 without trying to kill the plunderers. Hint hint.
care to explain?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Hi all,
I’m new to the thief class and I am interested in the good build for WvW. I was thinking P/D to start (using carrion). Can anyone link a popular p/d build?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Could someone link a good p/d build with gear, traits, etc?
edit: for WvW that is.

I think the block should block all attacks for the full duration. This would make scepter block much better vs 1vX. Also, add Torment to all Mesmer blocks lol. OP? Probably.

Keep in mind Shadow Refuge has a limit of 5 players and you must stay in the circle. Mass Invis is max 10 players, has a larger range and you and your allies can move while casting it.
Though to be fair Msss Invis can bug out. I have seen it totally ignore people around me and stealth those away from me as well. I would prefer a trait that would buff it for us at the expense of the group stealth mechanic.
Doesnt Shadow Refuge have that heal part as well?
Yeah Mass Invis can bug out. Sometimes it’s due to reveal debuff on allies (or even yourself). If you or your allies get stealth via Thief Refuge, you get the revealed debuff if you leave stealth early by attacking. Mesmer Invis on the other hand doesn’t give revealed if you leave stealth early by attacking someone.
Yes, Thief Shadow Refuge can be traited to heal.

Check out Osicat’s Shatter Heavy 3.0 build Staff+Sword/Focus build. Bountiful Interruption + F3 Diversion (Daze) + Focus Pull (Interrupt) + Chaos Storm (Daze) + Hoelbrak Runes.
The longer and more opponents, the stronger you become. 25 stacks of might is often obtainable.

Logitech G700S wireless mouse
17 buttons – all programmable with the LGS software
Wireless or Wired (I play with it wired but with the batteries removed to keep it lighter)
One one the reasons I use this mouse over the Razer ones is because the razer ones are quite small. Also Logitech > Razer as far as reliability is concerned.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
You didn’t mention PvE, WvW or PvP.
If WvW, Osicat’s Shatter Heavy 3.0 build would be perfect. It’s my go-to build right now for wvw.
