I disagree with this thread.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Runes of Speed are not very good. Vitality isn’t a very good stat in most cases.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Trading Post?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
It’s not just Mesmers that are using Traveler’s. Even classes with a speed signet are switching over to Traveler’s Runes and dropping their speed signet for something else.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I can already imagine it now….thieves with rifles @ 1500 range…and stealth.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I have been wanting to try Sigil of Torment (instead of Sigil of Bursting) on my torch for my Blackwater PU build.
However I can’t give up Traveler runes. Ever.
You could just have a focus in your inv. as I do
Though it’s not as fast as T runes overall :P
I did that for a long time. I am over that now.

as pve and WvW is what i want.
PvE = zerkers
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
The problem with shatter damage these days is because everyone is wearing toughness armour. Add to that protection and they cannot keep up sustained damage.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Ugh I got caught in the thread necro….i feel dirty.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Watching Mesmer videos can really give you an idea on game play. Also, managing your cool downs is very important as a Mesmer. It’s not bad to auto attack while your opponent is trying to figure out where you are.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Dude honestly i have the same problem, I use a condition build but before i finish them off they either cleanse the conditions or run away. haha.
You guys are just trying to live at each end of the dps spectrum. To do that you’re giving up what’s needed to actually win the fight (though in the case of the poor shatter zerker it’d mean traiting entirely into the wrong tree). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, mobility is king. All builds should start with mobility. Why do you think Traveller runes have become so popular? It’s not 60g for a full set because people like the pretty picture on the runes.
I for one haven’t tried traveler runes yet. But is it worth it to sacrifice other stat points from other runes for the mov speed?
I don’t know, I don’t run it. That said the other benefits of traveler synergize with zerker builds. As for condi builds, you’re sacrificing max condi damage for mobility (which, as said above, is king). If you’re a hybrid, then I suppose there’s no real loss.
If you can get your mobility/swiftness from other sources however, it’s a mute point. If you want to answer the question a different way: just look at travelers popularity and that might be telling.
I use Traveler’s runes in my Blackwater condition variant with good success. 25 stacks of Corruption and a constant 6-9 stacks of Might help make up for the loss of damage from Traveler’s runes. Also once you have 25 stacks of Corruption, use a 2nd torch with Sigil of Bursting. (Sigil of Torment might even be better but I still have to test it).
Also keep in mind that Traveler’s runes also provide you with +15% Boon duration and +10% Condition duration which is nice.
The only class I have real problems with is ironically Shatter and Phantasm Mesmers.

Probably Kylia’s Triforce build would be best for supporting a zerg/tagging for bags. Don’t try to use if 1v1 or in a small group.

Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
And you really don’t need any agony resistance until you start lvl 20.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
PvT isn’t very good for Mesmers. You don’t really need much if any vitality. You are missing Crit which for many builds is necessary.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Warriors also need time warp so that they can time warp that kill shot, while in stealth.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Fight isn’t too hard, DPS does matter though.
Hardest part is when she ends up in a wall and you keep getting obstructed.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Hmmmmm….how about put any 4 fractal skins into the mystic forge to get a fractal weapon token that can be turned in for fractal weapon skin of your choice?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Blame high level Fractals (50-80) where there is no reason to wear anything but Berzerker because even 1 (maybe 2) hits from a boss will down you no matter what you wear.
It comes down to DPS as hard as you can before your group runs out of cooldowns.
This has carried over to dungeons. Stacking like it or not is the most efficient way.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
We were overdue for another thread like this.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Thank you very much for your replies. Mainly my frustration is fueled by the most recent living world events and how I cannot complete most of it on my own. I’m trying to make a build that is reliable for solo play. That Mantra build looks like fun!
The Nightmare Tree events (if that is what you are referring to) are kind of OP (and lame) and any class trying to solo it’s way up the tree might have problems. It’s best to stay with a group (even if you are solo) so you don’t get all the aggro yourself. Ressers near by also help too.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Dont forget the skipping :P Best case would be swamp and then harpy. First you get Mossman axe, oneshot the champs at harpy frac then port up to endboss :P
I still need to find a video that shows how to port past the 2nd set of harpies after the golem. I also heard that it can bug out the last boss too if you skip?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Shatter builds are not optimal for dungeons. Sure they can work for CoF but you could also do CoF naked and still win.
Phantasm builds are the best for dungeons and where Mesmer’s really shine are in Phantasm/Reflection builds. A phantasm build like 0/20/0/25/25 will work in most dungeons. However a 10/30/0/30/0 build is highly recommended for dungeons that need reflects like CoE, Arah and Fractals.
Mesmers aren’t wanted in high-level Fractals for their DPS, they are wanted for their Reflection.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I like the trick pyro taught me with mantra and centaur. use mantra until a fight then switch to ether. If you time mantra casts, you can stack a minute or so of swiftness pretty easily.
Or you can use an Eternal Cold Potion and get perma swiftness with Centaur.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Mesmer AoE ‘Glamour’ builds really got nerfed a while back when Blinding Befuddlement was nerfed. That pretty much killed it for us. You can try the ‘Triforce’ spec which is the closest to the old spec.
Mesmer AoE is terribad compared to most other classes. We are a better 1v1 class.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
you can use centaur runes and mirror heal to avoid paying 40g for the travelers. As for build, any build that kills fast is good for roaming. And a lot of practice, skill matters a lot .
You can use an Eternal Cold Potion and stop using your heal with Centaur runes.
Also to the OP, my build:
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Mesmer’s are not as good as they once were, especially after the bleed nerf. However, they are still above average to most other classes underwater because of the confusion (not real confusion) of hiding within your clones and the fact that most people already hate fighting underwater.
That said, rangers are definitely the most OP underwater.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
That measly condition removal from Torch is all I use.
Perplexity Runes are strong, even stronger on other classes. They actually need to be nerfed. I would use them if I didn’t like Traveler’s so much.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Confusion in PvE = not worth it.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Awesome thanks!
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I’ve got the full zerk setup now and find a lot of deaths happening now usually from condi as groups tend to lack condi removal. I do die from missing a dodge as I’m still learning whats to be avoided on bosses I haven’t fought often enough.
I have another question which is what build do you suggest when running fotm with pugs? is it better to have a tanky setup for these groups and any suggestions.
PS I did try a S/F build but found myself dying a lot in pugs so switched to a 10/15/0/25/20 and find I survive longer but condi’s >_<
I find hammer guard the most useful for high fractals. Run 15/15/0/20/20. The traited virtue and purging flames should be enough removal. Perma prot will make it more forgiving for you and your group. You will also have access to ring of warding and staff line of warding on swap (start out as this then immediately swap after line) for ccing mobs at los spots so they won’t do anything to you for a bit while you put down prot fields and blind them with virtue. Use greatsword on swap if you need to group stuff up instead.
Hi Obal,
What traits for 15/15/0/20/20?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
You should break the habit of mouse clicking and bind those utilities.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Great for wvw

The only class that you would have a lot of trouble fighting is ironically shatter and phantasm mesmers.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I don’t like either of them.
Perplexity Runes if you want the OP runes
Traveler Runes if you want to keep up with your group (my favourite runes).
Prefer Sigil of Battle as well.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
In most cases and unless you’re really good, running full berzerkers in a zerg is a bad thing. All you will do is cause half your opponent’s zerg to rally when you are dead.
Zerkers is better in solo or 5-man groups but if you really want to run zerkers in a zerg, you’re better off GS/Staff.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
A buff to Glamours for AoE would be nice. Maybe revert/change Blinding Befuddlement or something to make fighting in zergs practical again?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Thanks alot Dirend and Xavi for your suggestions. What trait in illusions is it you use? is it compunding power?
Yeah, Compounding Power.
Here is my Dungeon/Fractals build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQRAsc8dlwzKqHVzqGa9IxZGMf5oZgdvXSBu5NA-jAyAYrBRTQAIRQUhQn8KiGbxtIas6aMlLRUtUAjqMC-e
You should have 3 swords with Bloodlust, Force and Battle sigils. Use Bloodlust mainhand and Force offhand until you get your 25 stacks then switch out Bloodlust mainhand for Battle mainhand sword.
Utilities can change depending on the encounter. I often change out Decoy for Blink, Stability Mantra, Disenchanter, etc.
You can also switch to Pistol when you want more range and just change the sword to pistol trait in dueling.
Also if you cannot afford Scholar Runes, Ruby Orbs are a decent and much cheaper option.
PS: I am debating if Sigil of Perception might be better than Bloodlust but unsure yet.

Did you change any traits from Blackwater build? Also, rabid sword I assume?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
But no one is confused by phantasms. So these would just be purple illusions of other things. You guys are boring
I wouldn’t say no one is confused by our phantasms at all, especially if you know how to hide in them.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Centaur runes + Eternal Cold Potion = 100% swiftness
You don’t need any swiftness runes for dungeons.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Other than the swiftness, Speed runes are pretty terrible btw.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
0/20/0/25/25 is also great for everything except Arah where a 10/30/0/20/10 variant is better for reflects.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Blurred Frenzy is a 2 second evade, not distortion.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Way back when, our Glamour Build which was our best AoE WvW build was nerfed (mostly due to the nerf of Blinding Befuddlement). The Triforce build is the closest we have to it but it is still much weaker than it was.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Traveler for WvW.
Use a Focus for dungeons.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
You should maybe post what server you are on.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Interrupts from turrets should not work with Perplex Runes. These runes are already too OP especially for an Engineer and need to be nerfed.
Anet, please look at Perplexity runes like you said you would and chnage (nerf) them.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
One of Dulfy’s maps was missing one under a POI in Mount Maelstrom. I missed it too but her map is now updated.
‘The third one is right on the Treacherous Vent POI.’
This might be the one.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
image is not the Worst phantasm ever. iWarden is. There is no place in the game for iwarden except combo finishers and reflects. Damage sucks since you can’t even hit your opponent with it. Lol. That’s the truth I have to say. They should really somehow modify iwarden so that it follows the enemy more precisely. They have to rework the animation tho. I would rather have that than have the reflect on the phantasm itself. Just my own opinion.
iWarden is a great phantasm, you just don’t know how to use it properly. This again shows your lack of experience with the Mesmer class.
