PU Mesmer is vulnerable to:
1. Multiple Conditions
2. Fighting classes that have multiple minions (e.g. Phantasm Mesmers, Shatter Mesmers)
3. Immobilize
4. Brains

Fractal 39
10/20/0/25/15 full Zerker
Sword+Focus Sword+Sword (or Pistol).
Greatsword for certain fights like Thermonova Reactor boss, Molten bosses, Jade Maw
Mostly Pug and mostly Melee

Guardians and Warriors are OP in Fractals. They also compliment each other very well. Other classes bring utility but it doesn’t match this combo. Everyone knows it.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I thought I read somewhere that Ascended Armour can drop in FotM? if so, what level can it drop at?
What about WvW chests?

Not sure if it was Phase Retreat or Blink, but I got stuck in EBG where I could not move and the only thing I could do is waypoint which fixed it.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Please fix. iWarden just stands there doing nothing. It might even chase the target but it still does nothing.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Also happened to me last night in EBG. Used staff Phase retreat and was stuck in place. Waypointing fixed it.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Would you have liked the wording ‘at this time’ better? Or ‘current state’. Or maybe ‘current wvw zerg meta class composition of the moment since the confusion nerf state’?
I can go on.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
A condi engineer (using Perplexity runes) is a tough fight for a PU Mesmer.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
There is already a thread on this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Building-my-Mesmer-in-WvW/first#post3390128
Mesmers are not as good in zergs as other classes. The Triforce or a similar build using Glamors is probably the best bet if sticking with a zerg however Guardians, Warriors & Necros are the main zerg classes at the moment.

I can’t use the Ether Signet for three reasons:
1. I use Centaur runes to give me perma speed. With a 35 second CD, this becomes too dangerous. With Ether feast I can run into someone soon after and the CD is short enough to be up when I need to use it again.
2. I need Mender’s Purity. The signet cuts my condition removal by more than half.
3. I rely on deception. I want as few identifying traits as possible. Not good with a signet sign hanging over my name tag. (also the reason why I don’t use glory boosters)
You can also use an Eternal Cold Potion (the exotic permanent one) in combo with Centaur runes to get swiftness without using your heal.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
PU Condition Mesmers eat thieves for lunch.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
It’s nice to have 100 trait points.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
The best armour is from TA. Get that armour and replace the runes and you or your illusions can proc a 1 second fear. It’s hilarious.
Please don’t fix. Ever.
Wait … nightmare rune #6 can proc off a hit to your illusions?
You have to have 6 pieces of the TA armour and then you can use whatever runes you want. The Nightmare runes themselves won’t cause this effect on clones.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
This may not be true anymore, but torment sigils were working with other on crit and swap sigils in that they wouldn’t put each other on CD.
Oooooh…can anyone confirm that this is still the case?

Trust me, it’s way more painful for some on these forums. But I see what you did there.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
With the IC change, I think this is a great idea. I think the build will also work decently with GS (instead of staff), given the bleeds that GS clones can stack. Will definitely give this a try in WvW!
The staff is the key part of this build imo. I would replace the sep/pistol before I got rid of the staff
For me in WvW (mostly wide open spaces), I don’t like how slow the staff projectile is. Plus, the staff phantasm is based on power and doesn’t add to the Condi pressure much. GS also adds a cripple, which helps catch runners – staff makes them run, but you’ll never catch up once they do.
Definitely not saying staff is bad by any stretch – just that, for me, GS does what I want (in WvW) more than staff.
Think of the staff as more of a semi-melee weapon and you will the potential.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Shatter DPS is much lower than Phantasm builds for PvE.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Its funny, last night in Fractals we had the Molten Champs as the end boss. I normally run sword/focus + sword/sword but I always use Greatsword for this fight. Using the 10/20/0/20/20 build and taking the new heal signet, I also changed some traits to include Restorative Mantras and Mantra Mastery. For utilities, I took Mantra of Resolve and Mantra of Pain however I accidentally put Mantra of Pain on Autocast.
With Mantra Mastery reducing the CD on Mantras and Mantra of Pain on Autocast healing me, I found the fight unbelievably easier to stay alive.
I didn’t realize Mantra of Pain was on Autocast until after the fight and even after that, I thought my keyboard key was stuck down.
With Mantra of Pain was on Autocast, the 2,662 heal x 2 (3/4 sec activation CD) plus with the short 2 3/4 sec recharge on MoP, my healing (and overhealing) was pretty big.
The downside of course was that the recharge of MoP was disabling my auto attacks. Next time, I would use MoP manually but it was nice to see the amount of healing (and AoE healing) one could do (in pure zerker gear even).

Phantasmal Haste also broken on phantasms created by sword, spear, focus and greatsword.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
So if your an odd ball like me and like to use s/p+s/f would a 10/20/0/20/20 build be the best way to go atm?
That’s pretty much the new Phantasm Meta build except that Phantasmal Haste is bugged on Swordsman & Warden (Spear and Zerker too). It might be better to go 10/20/0/25/15 until fixed.
edit: Missed Pistol. Swordsman would be better unless you need the range, then Pistol (re-trait for it) might be better for the situation.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
You also get Vulnerability with MH sword. GS is just weak.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Y2K bug all over again.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
We also had someone stuck in the wall on the exact same fight. He had to re-log to get out.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Phantasmal Haste
- Reduces recharge on phantasm attack skills.
- Recharge Reduced: 20%
Since the patch, Phantasmal Haste is now (still) bugged on the following weapons:
- Spear [Illusionary Mariner)
- Greatsword [Phantasmal Berserker] (new)
- Sword [Phantasmal Swordsman]
- Focus [Phantasmal Warden] (new)
There really is no point in going 20 points into Illusions and taking this trait until this is fixed.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
@Chaos
I don’t see the point of making builds that are not effective and more difficult to use. Just because it is ‘noob friendly’ doesn’t make it a bad build.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Could someone post the optimal Ranger Fractal build?
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Ret shield is great if using the PU build.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Speed of Rune isn’t very good, nothing like Traveler’s Runes. And to add, a lot of classes are ditching their Speed Signets and replacing with Traveler’s Runes so they can open up a utility slot for something more useful.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
If you have 2 phants up and you dodge twice, you should still have two phants up.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
MH Pistol. MH Whip. MH Cane. MH Fan.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
It adds 20% Crit straight up on top of whatever crit chance they have inherited from your precision (excluding 5% weapon sigil). Phantasms also don’t inherit Crit damage like that from Scholar or Rage runes.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I haven’t read the whole topic so maybe someone asked this already but is this build good in zergs v zerg as well? I have most trouble being really useful in zergs dps wise and sometimes hard to get tags as well.
Mesmers themselves aren’t really that strong in zergs compared to other classes. We bring utility but you won’t see as many loot bags as other classes will.
This build allows you to get in, do some damage and then get out. I like to use Torch to stealth in, quickly switch to staff and drop a chaos storm at my feet then the blast finisher will do AoE Burning plus give Chaos Armor to allies then use Blink to get out. I always use Blink to get out rather than get in.
If you want a pure zerg build where you stay with the zerg (because the zerg build is terrible 1v1 or small groups), then look up the Triforce build.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Use this build in www but having a hard time with some zerker thieves that almost two shots me, forcing me to stealth all the time which means that scepter 3 will be rendered useless. Any one having similar problems?
This is a very strong build vs thieves. To play against a thief, it’s all about timing when they will hit you from stealth. Scepter #2 block will often down a thief right away but to use Scepter #3, use your blink to get distance.
When the stealth, wait 2 seconds then stealth yourself. Try to keep 3 illusions up close together and stay close to your illusions. Dodging with 3 illusions up will put a ton of damage on your opponent as your illusion dies.
If invisible, just before you pop out, drop a chaos storm at your feet and on top of your illusions. This will make it very hard for the thief to CnD or damage you.
The only hard time you might have is if they pop Thieves Guild when trying to get a Torment block on the thief rather than their minion makes it a little more difficult.
Honestly, the PU guild is very strong against thieves. There is even a thread in the thieves forum complaining about this build.
The good news is, you have the build, you just need a little more practice.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Lay the conditions on them and when they go into Death Shroud, use your Scepter #2 Block to put Torment on them and watch their HP go down.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I’m the last one alive in my full pvt spec guardian with 10% damage reduction signet of judgement. No idea why everyone is always dieing but I’m always standing, that’s how I know I carry my team really well. I provide extremely high dps with my sceptre dps spec and I wait till the party is about to wipe to use my virtues. I never waste my renewed focus, I always save it for when I need the 2 seconds invulnerability.
I see what you did there…
/wink
Also, could someone link the optimum Fractal build for a Ranger?

After the patch I will try to go with untraited focus. I am not sure if reflections worth 20 points.
20/30/0/0/20 or 25/30/0/0/15. I am not sure how good is wastrel punshment on pve mob
Reflections are always worth it.
OP: For Old Tom, his poison bolts cannot be reflected but untraiting focus for that fight means iwarden can absorb them instead.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
So a Condi Mesmer (Blackwater) is too SLOW for solo-roaming, and the typical Shatter Build is far too “Squishy” for me, and very little/no condi cleansing is a problem…
So what are my other options as far as Solo-roaming that doesn’t make me feel slow or dies when it trips over a twig?
Lol, many thanks!

No. Soldier gear will just eventually take up valuable bank space.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
For WvW I don’t see Shatter as being as viable as it once was with the nerfs to it along with the current condition meta for many classes.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Right now, 10/30/0/20/10, full zerker sword/sword + sword/focus or sword/pistol. Scholar runes (Ruby Orbs on a budget). You only really use GS on some rare encounters.
The build might change next week.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Xavi, you have full guild membership.
Mongo, you still have full guild membership.
Hmmm…try now. I only have 3.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Problem with this comparison is that no one brings a 10/30/0/0/30 Mesmer because of the lack of reflects. I’d like to see where the current 10/30/0/20/10 meta build ranks.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
PU build is kind of a one-trick pony in that it is great 1v1 and small group combat but lousy in zergs. It also requires the opponent to attack the mesmer (and not torment and confusion) to be effective.
The problem with the mesmer class these days is that we don’t have a lot of variation for builds imo. Phantasm is still good, but again 1v1 with really no group support.
After the nerfs, Shatter is not as viable anymore, especially with the condition meta.
The old Glamours build was great for zergs vs zerg but since the nerf, the closest we have now is the ‘Triforce’ build which isn’t stellar.
Mesmer’s do want more variation but again a lot of classes are stuck with 1-2 viable wvw builds.
Regardless, the PU build isn’t OP and can be defeated though.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
I want that link as I don’t think Mesmers can out-DPS a warrior.
