Request: SAB Boomboxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenon.4537

The volume level on the boomboxes is roughly half that of any other instrument in the game… Can we get it to be increased to normal levels pretty please?

I’m not talking about the volume slider in the options… I have that slider maxed out and the boom box is still half as loud as a choir bell, harp, horn, etc. I don’t see why the boombox should be quieter. If people don’t want to hear my boombox they can turn their slider down. However if I want to hear my boom box I have to crank up the volume to max. And then if someone walks by with a choir bell they shatter my speakers…

They had countless ways of manipulating energy that rewarded smart gameplay instead of passive boring gameplay. I’ve made threads over a year ago addressing this but no one really listened. Back then they were so hyped for a new class they were blind to the fundamental flaws that existed from the very beginning…

Sure, sounds good.

But no more resetting mist energy to 50% on legend swap. Feel free to add your own version of a trade-off. If this happened and we still retained mist energy reset, it would be ridiculously overpowered.

Mist energy reset is stupid imo… mist energy should be regained from active play such as successfully evading or blocking or pulling off some kind of combo.

The lack of Hype isnt helping GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenon.4537

Hype is a double edged sword… too much of it and you raise player expectations beyond what is humanly possible to satisfy. HoT hype was so huge people were expecting 25+ maps with 100+ hours of story content and dozens upon dozens of new armor skins to collect.

I can already see the same thing happening for Expac2… People look at the leak and automatically assume that because a single screenshot shows the name of one town in the desert that we will automatically get ALL OF ELONA. Those people are going to be very very salty when their expectations are not met.

newcomers and returning players can’t even enjoy the new story without paying

This is a major problem. In fact I think it is highly underestimated how bad this is for Anet’s bottom line.

Anet pays a team of people to develop content that they give away for free for two weeks before charging money for that labor. The only way they recoup that loss is through gem store sales and hoping returning players will purchase it.

On top of that they don’t even market the old living world content at all. No advertisements on this website or reddit. No banner ad in the gem store panel. Nothing. Even then, each episode is only 200 gems ($2.50 USD) which is tiny compared to the thousands of dollars in man-hours it cost them to develop each episode.

Anet should at least put up a banner ad for old episodes. I personally think season 2 is worth every penny for the story (it’s about $20 USD in total). They should market that and put it on sale once or twice a year for returning players. I know a lot of returning or brand new players who don’t even know about season 2 and they miss out on some great content.

Now I know some people might argue that returning players should get it for free, but I just don’t agree. It was free for active players as a courtesy for actively supporting the game at the time it was released. $2.50 for an episode is more than fair price for returning players (considering minipets are triple that price and no one complains).

Everyone is always worried about Anet’s budget. Well, I think this would help them and it baffles me they don’t market their own product…

cesmode, how long ago did you quit? Was it before or after season 2 of the living world?

I seem to remember both you and I were unhappy with season 1 of living world, but personally I think season 2 was much better. The story was better in the second half. Season 3 has been good so far, but not quite as good as the second half of season 2. Again that’s just my opinion. Either way the living world content has improved a lot since season 1, but I can understand if living world as a whole is not your cup of tea.

Spvp is a better pvp experience than WvW in my opinion. A lot of hardcore pvpers will tell you it’s broken beyond repair and “muh elite spec power creep” but it’s really not that bad for casual players. Maybe I find it fun because I’m not interested in reaching MLG diamond platinum Mt. Dew™ Doritos™ league… I try to win but I don’t let it ruin my day if we lose. Everyone’s experience is different. What I find fun about pvp is different from what others find.

The best part of spvp over WvW is a more consistent experience. You queue up, find a match, and play. In WvW its a gamble. Some days there might be a commander. Sometimes none. Sometimes you might get ganked by thieves while trying meet up with your team across the map. Its not as straight forward or consistent as spvp.

WvW itself seems pretty dead. It was an awesome concept 4 years ago, but they neglected it far too much. The new map is a ghost town. No one plays it. I think a combination of toxic community and Anet neglect put WvW on a slow death spiral and it’s just now reaching rock bottom…

Welcome back cesmode, I remember your name lol.

Right now:

  • HoT content is good, though not as huge as it should have been.
  • There’s raids if you are into that.
  • A few new legendaries.
  • Fractals are a lot better.
  • Spvp is generally better (imo).
  • Living world continues with new maps. (new episode in a week or so)
  • WvW is… eh… kinda dead from what I can tell. Certainly not where it used to be.

In future:

  • Probably another 4 living world episodes before next expansion.
  • Next expansion probably not till next year.
  • Generally expect a new living world episode every 2-3 months.
  • Generally expect a new raid wing… maybe… every 3 or so months.
  • No clue if they even care about breathing life back in WvW.
  • Expect a new Spvp map every once in a blue moon.
  • Expect them to continue pretending esports will be a thing one day.

Conclusions:

I think the next expansion will decide the future of this game. It’s very critical to make up for the shortcomings of HoT. The content was good but there just wasn’t enough of it and a LOT of missed opportunities in the story. We only got 3 real maps and people were expecting a lot more than that. If the next expansion doesn’t go above and beyond then I expect a lot of people will be leaving.

I worries me that these forums seem way less active than they used to be. The front page used to cycle through topics in less than an hour. Now I can post a new topic and get no replies and it will still be on the front page two days later. There are threads on the front page of class forums that are more than a week old and you can’t reply to them without checking the bypass bump box.

A lot of people say the game is great, and maybe it is. But the audience is definitely shrinking…

I still wonder how Tempests and Chronos fit into this, but then again, I haven’t played those classes (yet).

I main mesmer and from my perspective the chronomancer makes the least sense to me… Its a spec that manipulates the fabric of time which is something very sciency to me. Its something mesmers would have to study carefully and train for, but instead we just kind of pick it up naturally without any sort of guidance or a mentor. It doesn’t even make sense that time manipulation would be a thing in a jungle setting.

Why wasn’t there some sort of discovery of this art of chronomancy? Why wasn’t there a master of it to teach us how it works? Why isn’t there some sort of chronomancer guild working to predict the future and/or open up portals to time travel? Surely multiple chronomancers working together with all of the advanced magical materials and technology could figure out how to build a time machine?

I know the real answer… it would create lots of plot holes in the story because time travel is a messy business. But there should at least be SOMETHING going on with chronomancy in the story. ANY context at all would be nice. Instead we got a big fat zero.

I really love the idea of this spec. The only thing I would change is you said in the main thread they will use glyphs. I think it should be signets. Engineer are the only class that don’t have signets, and what is a signet? It’s a ring imbued with magical power. Very easy to describe Occultist signets as these dangerous ancient artifacts dug up from a tomb and used by the engineer.

I really love the theme of the engineer digging up ancient technology and using it in a quasi-mage-like technomancer way. It reminds me of H.P. Lovecraft discovering ancient alien powers beyond human comprehension.

They would be a purely cosmetic thing just for funsies. I enjoyed unlocking all of the tools, weapons, and hearts in SAB but now there’s only weapon skins to grind for, and it would be nice to have new things to look around for inside the box.

Also about spirit magic. That depends… ritualist spirits are spirits of the dead. In that regard they are loosely related to necromancers. Ranger spirits on the other hand come from nature magic which was Mordremoth’s sphere.

Xenon.4537

Thank you guys this info helps me a lot! I’ve always been most intrigued by what other parts of the world might be like and understanding how the dragons affect the world goes toward that. Like I want to know if there are possibly ancient civilizations that survived the elder dragons because they exist on the other side of the planet and went unnoticed. And that makes me wonder how advanced they might be.

By the way about #6 “where does ley line magic come from?” I seem to remember a WP video or maybe it was just some old speculation years ago that stuck in my head… For some reason I thought the magic was slowly seeping into Tyria from other planes (such a underworld, fissure of woe, realm of torment, etc) and the entry points into Tyria is where the leylines are. After that the dragons eat it, and when they do it gets sent back to whichever realm corresponds to their sphere of influence (magic consumed by Zhaitan ends up in underworld for example). Is this theory demonstrably false?

@Aaron Ansari – On question #2 what I meant is that Zhaitan represents death magic, Primordus is fire magic, Jormag is frost magic, etc. Therefore every school of magic is represented by an elder dragon. The reason I asked is because I think its unlikely Anet will add new elder dragons if they already used all the major archetypes.

Hi I was hoping I could pick someones brain about a few things.

  1. We already know of all the elder dragons from the Omadd’s machine vision, correct? There aren’t likely any other elder dragons out there?
  2. All spheres of influence/magic are covered by the elder dragons we know about?
  3. If #1 is true, why did they all fall asleep right around core Tyria? Why not Cantha or one of the unexplored continents?
  4. Did the elder dragons travel across the entire planet last time they awoke? Did they destroy the unexplored continents and then return to core Tyria?
  5. How exactly were the bloodstones created? The information from the GW1 wiki contradicts the information we have learned from recent GW2 content. Were they made by seers/mursaat to hide magic from elder dragons? Or were they in fact made by the human gods using king Doric’s blood as a way to split schools of magic apart? Was this retconned, or is the contradiction actually because we don’t really know and the story is making it ambiguous?
  6. Where does Leyline magic come from?
  7. When an elder dragon eats the magic, where does it go?
  8. Why can’t other creatures eat magic (or can they?).

Thanks in advance!

What they need to do is redo the texture at a higher resolution. The original low resolution is because the ranger skill is way smaller and only visible for 1 second.

Question about blocking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

When someone blocks me in chat, why can I still see their text?

The reason I ask is because sometimes people make a big deal out of blocking me in map chat, and then go on to seemingly have a conversation at my expense in map chat without responding to me. This leads me to believe they did in fact block me and cannot see my text, but I can still see theirs. Is this how it works? If so why?

I’m not trying to harass anyone. For full context a few minutes ago someone stated in map chat and I quote

“this is a little late but…. kitten [name redacted]”
“fingers crossed he dies in a plane crash”

I tried to engage this person as to why it’s wrong to call for the death of others just because you disagree with their politics. I was spoken down to as if I were a naughty child. “Educate yourself” was a phrase they used. It only went downhill from there until they claimed grandiloquently for all to see that they blocked me.

I then got to see a passive aggressive conversation about me between this individual and several others, apparently unable to see any of my interjections. I really don’t care about the behavior itself. I’ve come to expect it. I’m just wondering why the block system seems to work this way. It would be nice if there were some indication as to who has actually blocked me besides sending an awkward test whisper.

A few years ago mesmer used to have respectable dps but it relied on maintaining 3 iSwordsman and never using shatters. It worked because of the big % damage modifiers that affect only phantasms. But the devs didn’t like that and I remember them specifically saying they felt like mesmers “should” be shattering regularly. Around about the same time they nerfed a lot of the reflect cheese that was going on in dungeons, and the mesmer’s dps hasn’t been the same ever since.

This sounds like a bad idea to me…

  1. You get jumped by enemies
  2. You gain a bunch of life force from the damage
  3. You go into Death Shroud and eat more damage
  4. You run out of LF and go back to normal mode
  5. You heal and wait for more damage to fill your LF bar again
  6. You go back to step 3 and repeat…

So like… any time you are low on life, you will be high on LF and can go into tank mode.

[Idea/Speculation] Expansion 2 Masteries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

Here’s how I think these things are going to go…

Mount Mastery

At best we will get Junundu Wurms which will be required to travel through burning desert sands (just like GW1). The mastery will focus on riding your wurm better and unlocking wurm skills. The wurms will only be usable in certain areas (just like GW1) because the core game doesn’t need and really has no room for mounts…

Arms Mastery

This is probably never going to be a thing. Anet already showed us the way we will unlock new weapons is through elite specializations. The skills on every weapon have to be carefully balanced which is why we only get elite specs from expansions.

Glint’s Prophecy

Double, triple, and quadruple jumping sounds fun on paper, but is pretty ridiculous if you really think about it. Being able to do that anywhere at any time is going to make a lot of core game areas silly and allow people to break out of maps too easily. Not to mention jumping puzzle issues. The closes I think we might get is a new type of bouncing mushroom that lets you trigger the bounce 2 or 3 times in the air, but it only works in new areas where the map is specifically designed for it.

Forgotten Lore / Margonite Lore

Like I said earlier, this one is pretty cool if you focus more on the lore and less on combat buffs. Make it so that you need to level this up in order to speak the same language as Margonites and Forgotten and be able to learn about the story from them. Make it a study of the language and culture so you can read their books and open magically sealed doors or whatever.

That might sound like a lot, but consider it takes anywhere from 25-50 people to build a content patch like Head of the Snake. And that’s just artists and programmers. You also have playtesters and bug fixers and marketing so the number of devs goes up. And yes, the majority of the devs are hard at work on the expac, not living world.

Xenon.4537

My advice for the future is don’t include a lot of numbers and specifics in this kind of thing because it allows people to shoot down your ideas based on minutae instead of discussing the general intent. It also lets you cut down on word count so the idea is easier for others to read and consider.

For example I love the idea of Margonite Lore because I played GW1. However when you get into the nitty gritty of recharging skills 50% faster for 10 seconds, but putting a 10 minute cooldown… how is the cooldown displayed? Like how do I know when the 10 minutes are up? Is there an icon or do I need to set my stopwatch? Is 50% too weak or too strong? And 10% to all stats? How long does that last? Now the discussion isn’t about how cool Margonites are, but whether the mechanics will work. Besides that, I think Margonite Lore should have more… lore and less combat buffs.

I think it’s more important to discuss the general intent of these things before they exist and let the devs worry about the nitty gritty details later.

But Anet doesn’t want to hire more devs. They want their company to remain a certain size that they are comfortable with.

[Suggestion] Elite Spec: Ritualist (Necro)

in Necromancer

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

I like the idea of a Ritualist, but I would think they would want to be in the back lines, not the front. You have it designed to be a support type anyways, not a big dps spec. Therefore, I see it more as a Chronomes to be in the back with a shield, not the front with a sword. Conceptually, why would a clothy support be in the front lines where the warriors and guardians are smashing skulls?

Additionally, for a necromancer to conduct rituals, they would likely perform many rituals through the use of sacrifices. It would be more interesting to me to have the skill tree work with the minion tree, particularity to gain additional boons or apply more conditions for when you sacrifice your minions. Currently, they only explode or heal you. But for that to work, gaining the elite spec would need to also reduce the cooldown on summoning/resummoning your minions.

Chronomancer is a frontline spec (at least in raids…) it’s a tank that spreads quickness. Generally the game is set up in a way that if you want boons or want to share boons you need to stack up next to your team. And if half of you team is melee, then by default your whole team stacks in melee range. The only exception is when the fight requires you to spread out like at vale guardian. Besides that, the squishiest clothy character in the game is elementalist and they stand right on the front line for dps and might stacking.

tl;dr I see no problem making a support character go frontline.

[Suggestion] Elite Spec: Ritualist (Necro)

in Necromancer

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

1: Seems like ritualist would be more of a Revenant thing, considering their whole setup is communing with spirits of legendary figures and using them to empower themselves.

Yeah a lot of people say this and I agree with that side as well which is why I actually made 2 versions of the spec. I posted the revenant version in their subforum.

I have some minor reservations about the rev being the ritualist, but I can imagine it becoming such. I mained ritualist in GW1 and to me it always had stronger ties to necromancy through the spawning power attribute.

For each rank of Spawning Power you have, creatures you create (or animate) have 4% more Health, and weapon Spells you cast last 4% longer. Some Ritualist skills, especially those related to Spirit creatures, become more effective with higher Spawning Power.

Also keep in mind what necromancy actually is historically. From wikipedia:

Necromancy is a supposed practice of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily

Furthermore, the actual method of reanimating bones and dead flesh involves using a spirit. The spirit is the magical driving force which makes the dead thrall move. I think there’s a lot of compelling evidence both inside and outside GW2 to show the connection between necromancers and ritualists.

Revenant’s on the other hand have a pvp title, and 5 really famous spirits (ritualists had a lot more… and could summon non-famous spirits…) Otherwise I don’t think the revenant has much in common with the original ritualist. The ritualist had to study all their life at Shing Jea monestary to be able to commune with the dead. Revenants on the other hand are just people who died and came back from the Mists infused with new powers. (hopefully one day we will get to see what happened to Rytlock in the mists to better explain revenants…)

There’s a LOT of them so we can never really get them all in GW2, but we can get a lot of the main ones like Bloodsong, Shelter/Union, etc. Others could also be turned into traits, such as Agony and Destruction.

Also here are the weapon spells from GW1 which I think are also good material for trait ideas.

Interestingly Splinter Weapon already exists in GW2 and is used by the Jade Bow enemies added in recent patches. I really loved that skill and it was a bread and butter DPS ability back in the day.

The Ritualist (necromancer version) supports allies with powerful rituals to empower weapons with special enchantments. This spec is meant to allow necromancers to fill the team utility and support role. This ritualist uses a mainhand sword to deal direct damage on the front line while supporting allies.

  • The new skill type is Weapon Spells which work similar to venoms, but have a duration (5-10 sec) instead of a set number of charges.
  • Weapon spells grant a special effect such as life steal for the healing skill, or a chance to block attacks or chance to deal extra damage.
  • Through traits there will be an effect to increase the damage of allies for a certain duration after a weapon spell ends. This is meant to be something akin to druids grace of the land.
  • Death shroud becomes Spirit shroud and the skills allow you to summon spirits which damage and debilitate your foes (up to 5 spirits). The spirits are pretty strong but they die once you leave shroud. Also the spirit shroud is a ghostly blue/cyan instead of black.
  • Through traits you can reduce the cooldown of weapon spells the longer you stay in spirit shroud.
  • You can also use traits to empower allies that stand near your spirits.

Overall the spec is not meant to be a full on dps spec. You can either use traits to make your allies more tanky, or you can buff your team’s damage output.

[Suggestion] Elite Spec: Ritualist (Revenant)

in Revenant

The Ritualist (Revenant version) is a powerful summoner of spirits from the mists. The playstyle is to summon spirits which either attack enemies or empower allies within a wide area, and using the scepter to snare and slow enemies and keep them in range of the spirits. To commune with spirits you use the new legendary stance of Master Togo (from GW1).

  • Spirits are somewhat like a mixture of engineer turrets with Glint aspects. You put a spirit down and the skill slot is replaced with another skill that detonates the spirit. Each detonation skill is different (reflecting the type of spirit).
  • Unlike turrets or aspects, spirits have a limited duration and can be killed by enemies.
  • The F2 skill is an offensive spirit skill that summons 3 spirits at once and can be used outside of Togo stance. This means you can have 3 offensive spirits, 1 healing spirit, and 3 utility spirits.
  • The elite skill is Clamor of Souls (also from GW1) which in its GW2 form will be a spreading AoE attack. Imagine a mass of spirit energy moving forward slowly in a giant “S” shape damaging anything caught inside it. Clamor of Souls damage and recharge are inversely proportional to each other and depend on how many spirits you have active.

The spec plays like something in between a turret engie and a phantasm Mesmer. Through traits you can either deal heavy aoe pressure, or you can be a healer.

wow this is toxic

Adding alacrity to Ventari is such a stupid idea…

  • #1 You irk mesmers by taking something originally advertised as “their thing”
  • #2 The implementation is terrible. 3 sec alacrity on a skill you have to keep spamming which wastes lots of energy. In fact just to maintain 12 seconds of alacrity requires 4 skill presses and uses up all your energy. So you won’t be using any other skills at all; ruining your heals and/or dps.

Elite Specialization: The Ritualist

I get that there are connections between ritualists and revenant.

However why do you guys seem to dismiss the connection between necromancers and ritualists? The actual definition of necromancy is “the supposed practice of communicating with the dead, especially in order to predict the future.” Furthermore it is described that necromancers (not just in gw2, i mean in general) summon spirits and use them to animate corpses. Like that’s how they actually get the undead flesh and bones to move… By energizing it with a spirit.

The GW2 necromancer, like any necromancer in fiction, is based on these real world myths and legends. Sticking strictly to GW2, necros use life force in their magic. Well what is lifeforce? Is that not spiritual energy collected from dying creatures?

My interpretation of it is that the ritualist is more of a willing communer with spirits. They form a mutual bond with the dead and have a more balanced relationship. Whereas necromancers are more scientific and forceful. They force the dead to bend to their will.

Revenants seem to be somewhere in between because they seem to get along well with some spirits like Jalis, while struggling to control Mallyx. They don’t summon Joe Bob from Cantha to give them a buff. They don’t collect every nit picking sliver of life energy from rabbits and trolls to feed their power. They focus entirely on the “big” ones. They are more or less imbued with their powers whereas necromancers and ritualists have to study extensively to perfect their arts.

I am hoping next elite spec will let mesmer copy all her boons to her clones/phantasms. That might give mesmer a potential DPS option.

How?[/quote]

It wouldn’t.[/quote]

Yeah… I think what mesmer needs for DPS to compete is more of those flat % damage bonuses in traits. Ele has a lot of them. 10% to burning foes, 10% while attuned to fire, 10% while within 600 distance, etc. I think the only ones mesmer has are 15% phantasm damage (and they die a lot) and 10% mind wrack which is 1 skill…

  • Thief gets something kinda similar to clones in a future elite spec.

Thieves having clones… well, as someone commented, there’s Ambush and Thieves’ Guild.

Those 2 skills are exactly why I brought up the suggestion. I think it’s something Anet might like to expand on as an elite spec. Mesmers had Time warp before chronomancer and Necros had minions before the Rise shout was added with Reaper. So I think there’s precedent that Anet likes to expand on core class ideas with the elite specs.

Nah, because with your logic, Chronomancers will have spirit weapons and be top dps.

Lol I’ll bet you right now mesmers get spirit weapons one day. Guaranteed.

Will they be top dps? Maybe for about 2 hours, then it gets “hotfixed”.

whats your thoughts on this?

I actually really like this. The theme and mechanics sound like fun.

However I gotta agree with others that what mesmer really needs is a damage spec, not another support spec. What are we tied with rev for last place in dps? I know we are at or very near the bottom… Last I checked like 13k dps while elementalist is doing 30k+? Someone can correct me on the numbers…
