Hard to believe that at it’s 3rd Wintersday anniversary the Anet devs will only have been able to make 2 healing skills per class that do not make the gameplay any more interesting and that literally nobody uses. The Elementalist doesn’t even have an elite skill worth using. This is particulary shocking when considering that the battle mechanic is the most successful aspect of the game yet it has been left to gather dust.

It’s wasted potential and It’s really sad considering GW1 had so much more to offer in terms of skills and builds.

Elementalist does not need nerfing.

Anet nerfed the ele so bad that there are only 2 builds that function properly with slight variants, and one of those 2 builds let you survive while the other lets you burst and die. They claimed in the past to have improved the ele build variety but all their “effort” ended up being a massive failure. The class doesn’t even have an elite worth using in WvW.

The only thing possible to keep up is play the meta, and that is celestial stats and might stacking right now with 0/2/0/6/6 or 0/0/2/6/6. If they nerf that the class will be literally worthless.

0/0/6/4/4 on d/d is interesting for dueling condi builds but in every other context it’s useless. Condi builds really have their shortcoming.

UNtil they add new maps and new skills it’s still the same old PvP. They don’t even have enough maps in ranked matches to make a map election feature worthwhile. I always get the same 3-4 maps.

I have purchased Dragon Age Inquisition and Far Cry 4. Both of those games could have gone to gems or an expansion if it was available. The money is there Anet.
2 years of the same meta events.
2 years of the same classes and weapons types
2 years of the same races
2 years of the same dungeons

Did you guys seriously think that the LS was going to be enough for me to invest 2 years into?
GW2’s 20+/- GB space has been allocated to my storage drive until an expansion or significant update(not a one hour LS) has been offered.

I concur with what Guhracie.3419 has said about becoming invested into other games. It is becoming too late for Anet to sway many people’s minds, and wallets!

It’s hard to justify buying 2000 gems to craft an ascended armor or transfer server when games are 75-80% off on Steam. For 5$ you can get an AAA title like the latest Deus Ex, while it would cost me 20$ in gems to transfer server or craft 2 ascended armor pieces. Guess where my money went today.

Personally I have no problem with the Living Story. I understand some people like it and I also like it when it’s made to play with other people.

What I don’t understand is the removal of past content and the lack of new content for the endgame (WvW mostly, PvP and dungeons).

If I was designer/manager at Anet I would make the Ring of Fire area asap with a WvW map in the middle of it.

I fully and completely understand the frustration. I truly comprehend that players would like us — someone, anyone! — to “open the floodgates” on information.

It is not a question of opening the “floodgates” on information:

12 months ago Devon said that the Orbs were “definitively coming back to WvW”. What happened? When the forum thread was bumped to ask that question it was immediately locked.

Why did you released literally nothing for WvW in over a year (the endgame for a large % of the players)? Is it because you gave up on the game mode or because you are working on something very big for it?

The gems I bought just by myself would have paid for the little content you made in the last year (siege disabler and 3 tags colors).

So do you have a WvW development team? If yes, how large is it and what have you been working on all year long?

Well, I gave all the advices I could on this forum and nothing has improved for WvW. I think I’m going to take a break from this game, I’m didn’t want to do another tournament without new content anyway.
I’ve been wishing Anet would decide to invest into their competitive mode and fix the broken systems (PPT, make new maps and add GvG.) but nothing is happening and my friends are leaving.

TY for all the amazing battles in Tier 2.
TY Anet for what was an amazing game originally. It will have kept me busy for 2 years and plenty of hours anyway. It would have been an even better one if you continued developing WvW content (everything you need is on this forum already).

I guess I’ll still log in 30 minutes every 2 weeks to do the living story anyway.

I also have a lot of faith that they can provide an amazing expansion, most of which comes from the base game and how much fun I’ve had. Granted nothing is ever going to satisfy everyone but I loved a good chunk of what has been done, I just don’t feel there’s enough left or coming to keep me here at the rate I’d like to be.
I would prepay for the expansion if it were announced today to be honest that’s how much faith I have in them but unfortunately I don’t see any announcement coming anytime soon so it’ll just become a matter of how long do I stick around before becoming invested or interested in something else.

Let’s be realistic here, video game companies tend to announce games and expansions at least a year in advance, and then it get’s delayed a few months. There has to be a polarization of the potential consumers around the idea (hype), otherwise they would just hurt their potential revenues.

So unless Anet is victim here of some really poor marketing strategy I don’t think we will see anything like an expansion before spring 2016, and that is if they announce something in January.

I feel bad for people that put money in the coins. I don’t think there’s a legit reason to not implement it as a permanent feature.

Still looking forward to see the testing results on EOTM being implemented in WvW.
Because that is what EOTM was supposed to be according to Arena Net – a testing place for future WvW content, now 12 months later, still nothing.
Interesting.

Or maybe they decided to scrap that seeing how people constantly shout about how EotM is not WvW and that is the worst thing ever to be added to the game?

That is the thing with plans after all. They might change based on new information.

Well giving up on adding EotM to the PPT rotation is the worse decision Anet has taken. Of course when you are stuck with 3 identical maps on the battlefield it’s difficult to justify adding EOTM.

However this is what they need to do:
1- Make a third WvW map
2- Remove identical Borderland map duplicates
3- add EotM and new map to PPT rotation
4- Make an improved “version 2” of Eternal Battleground
5- Harmonize loot/rewards across all maps
6- Merge servers into 3 alliances
7- Make it so Guild can choose their alliances for a large influence fee
8- Add an overflow TDM / GvG map battleground with overflows where score contribute to PPT

Here you go, 3 more years of amazing gameplay.

Credit where credit is due, this just happened:

That was poor wording in the press release, there is no “new game mode” in the traditional sense we’d think of (new map/ new rules) being released in this update, though our competitive team continues to work on new game mode options as we speak. As with all things, they’ll give details on this when it’s far enough along we’re able to talk about it.

The reference to “mode” is talking about how players will be organized in PvP games, details later this week.

While it’s a far cry from the roadmap that we’re looking for, acknowledging that other PvP game modes are in development is definite step in the right direction.

Keep opening up, guys! +1

Edit: This too: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-improvements-to-pvp-and-the-ladder-test-season/

They’re still just announcing stuff two weeks away, but good to hear PvP is getting some QoL changes.

Still they are not mentioning new maps or new game modes in that post. It’s just interface tweaks/improvements. Basically repackaging old content like the NPE.

If you want a NPE then add new skills and traits to be unlocked. Same with PvP, if they want a new PvP experience they can’t just give us a map selection screen (because we all know what that leads to, only the same map will get selected over and over), they need to add new game modes and maps at the same time.

People can only say the living world isn’t content if they’re dismissing new zones as well. And new enemies with new mechanics. And new dynamic events.

A few months ago, everyone was saying new zones, new skills, new weapons, new classes, new races.

We’ve gotten two new zones, but everyone says the Living Story is a couple of hours.

If that’s all the play you can get from a new zone, no MMO is the world is going to be able to provide enough content.

I don’t think anybody here is questioning the quality of the new Silverwaste and Dry Top zones, these are quite outstanding. The issue has to do with implementation and re-playability. As I mentioned earlier, it is sad to have so much beautiful work going to the design of instances people will only play once through, while instead they could have been designed as replayable dungeons, and the living story as story modes for these dungeons. It wouldn’t diminish the quality of the living story at all, but we would also get permanent dungeon content.

Same with WvW, why not make a version of Silverwaste competitive? Anet has already shown us that you can support PvP in the open world. What are we supposed to think about the lack of new competitive content when we see Anet bringing the WvW mechanics into PvE?

The general feeling is that there is content made only for a specific type of player and not for the rest of the competitive/hardcore-PvE community.

the real economy in GW2 is in the insider trading, people who know what’s going to be the hot items the week before the patch hits and buys up everything so they can control the prices. They know because they’re privileged testers, or friends of anet employees. It’s “acceptable” because it’s just a game, but if the TP were a real stock market? Everyone participating would be in jail, as insider trading is illegal.

So.. I hate GW2’s economy.

Look at the price of T6 right now, it’s 4 times what it used to be because of all the nerfs they did to the Orr region. It was nice before to go there to farm t6 for your legendary, now I haven’t gone there in almost a year.

All MMO’s have their share of problems and their strong points. ESO has beautiful story telling and environment, a lot of new content being developed, but serious problems with the battle mechanics.

Guild Wars 2 has the best battle mechanics of any MMO, amazing artistic design (specially with the latest LS content) but didn’t get new WvW content in a year…

To be fair Ls season 2 has been a huge improvement on season 1 specially with the 2 new areas released. I think it has been appreciated.

But I can’t understand the reason why the living story doesn’t introduce replayable dungeons and WvW content instead of being limited to something you only play once.

All the work that went into that last chapter mini-dungeon would have been better served going to make a repayable dungeon. Then the story mode of that dungeon could be the living story.

The new areas added longevity to the experience (and the design is beautiful), but so many other aspects of the game are neglected, specially competitive game modes (WvW? PvP? GvG?), guild support (Guild halls, Guild missions, Guild raids) and skill content (new skills? new traits? new fields? new boons? new weapon types? new classes? more build flexibility?).

Then all the content that has been removed doesn’t help the game survive. Sometimes when we’re bored we wished we could load up SAB once more, specially considering some of us spent real money to buy a continue coin.

What if you stealth as a thief? Being that thieves only have teleports and stealth, I don’t think they should be disabled since it is the most effective roaming class and would be widely popular for this. Just make the orb re appear when you exit stealth.

The orb is used in spirit watch in spvp and no one can stealth when carrying the orb, it works that way.

It would work by next Friday reset if they had team of 4-5 people working on it. The reason the orbs aren’t back after almost 2 years now can only be a lack of interest the dev have for WvW. Anyway, 3 tag colors and an improvised siege disabler in a year demonstrate just how little time they are willing to devote to the competitive modes since EotM.

Ok, I’m back. About Harry Potter…

I think that the whole basis for the presentation in this and other threads about communication has a few pillars. And it’s one of them that I’m thinking about. J. K. Rawlings wrote a series of well-loved books, and I am sure (although I didn’t follow it) that people gave feedback to her on every release, heck, probably every nuance of every release, and that they also provided suggestions for future books. It’s a natural thing: People were highly invested in the series, loved it a bunch, and wanted to know more, or to have input.

In that small sense — and yes, that’s only part of the communication question — I don’t think I’d want our team to communicate about the game’s direction. Like, “Yes, so in the future, all frogs will become sentient, treble in size, and take over Lion’s Arch, leading to the elimination of all non-amphibian races. Yep, yep, that’s where we’re heading with the story.” NOTE: This is NOT where the story is going. This is only a wildly-improbable scenario offered for purposes of… umm… providing a wildly-improbable scenario.

My question: Do you agree that it’s good to not share that sort of information, information related to the actual direction of the game saga as a whole?

If so, then my sense is that you want to know more about the nuts and bolts.

  • “Are you looking at XXX new feature?”
  • “Do you intend to improve ABC functionality?”
  • “Is ### working as intended, or is it bugged, or will you incorporate player feedback to change it?”

Again, this is a small part of the discussion, but I wanted to make sure I was looking at that part accurately. I wondered if generally, no one is asking about the whole “Tell us where the story is going” bit.

I do not think anyone here want spoilers.

For example for another MMORPG I won’t name:
Players learned that 2 new PvP maps are coming and where they will be located.
Players know they will do open world PvP and will let you play justice as well as criminal.
Players have seen alpha footage of these things (a few seconds) and do not know when it will be released.

For Guild Wars 2 WvW we know:
One of the developers said the Orbs would be coming back, then locked the thread when it was bumped up a year later.

For PvP we know some some rumors or poi video that a new game mode is coming, nothing more precise. We also do not know when the map you removed will come back.

Generally for PvE I think the living story you guys are making is great, specially with the new areas. We totally lack information on if/when we will see new skills, weapon types, classes, new traits, graphic updates, etc, however.

It is when it comes to PvP/WvW that there is a huge blank on the direction the game is going and just an alpha screenshot or video with a short description would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Every hour at your spawn in the enemy Border your can trigger an orb event by holding all blood lust caps. The event can not be trigger if you have a leader greater than 20k.

To complete the event you must run the orb from your spawn to the place of power. The orb carrier will run at a reduced speed and movement skill and ports will either be disable or drop the orb. Carring the orb uses up supplies so you will need to cap camps and resupply along the way. The orb will be visible to all players on the map friendlies and enemies alike.

To stop the event the enemy must retake the orb and hold it for an X amout of time(5min?). Should all bloodlust caps be retaken the event will also fail. Upon completion of the event your can steal 1-3k points from the leading server. All that participated will get 1-2gold and a bonus chest.

Something like this would add another mechanic to the game and require team work on a large scale It would spit up the zerg and could make wvw a lot more fun. You need players to guard bloodlusts and you will need players to cap camps and protect the orb carrier. Also would give more of a reason for players to fight in the ruins

Edit: Extra rewards if you can complete the event while holding all bloods lusts and being outmanned.
So what does everyone think?

2nd Edit: Since people have made some good comment about it being to easy to kill the orb carrier to stop the event. How about the enemy team has to retake the orb and hold it for an X amount of time (5mins?). This would encourage some counter play and encourage open field fights.

Funny I was just asking for the orbs also in another thread. I have a different vision (simpler) on how they should function but none the less anything they could do to bring them back would truly help the game at this point.

The orb mechanic added an element of directionality and tension on the map that has been lost since they were removed. In my opinion the capture the flag mechanic should never had been removed and was meant as an essential part of WvW. The current stale matches of WvW where blobs are just karma training illustrate how much has been lost with the orbs removal: The orb was a necessary polarity on the battlefield.

They were supposedly removed for 2 reasons:
1- They were overpowered
2- Hackers were stealing them

I would imagine by now that hacking is no longer possible in GW2 so therefore all that needs to be done is balance the orbs to the current gameplay.

I propose the following:
What ever server that possesses the Orb makes +10 ppt
If the server possessing the Orb is outnumbered then the Orb points triple to 30 ppt

This way an outnumberred server could at least concentrate all their forces on keeping the orb on their side.

Please Bring Back The Orbs!

Edit: Add the orbs to EotM as well in a different way (more like capture the flag) and add EotM to ppt rotation.

All the devs jumped in it together. Now they are taking time to mull over ideas. I find limited validity at best to the “communication” complaint.

We don’t need communication, we need something to actually be done.

You presume to speak for the community? Who is this we? I am simply speaking for myself, based on what the OP stated. He specifically and disingenuously claims that WvW gets no attention. You would probably do everyone a great service if you stuck to speaking for just yourself.

If you look around you you’ll see that I am speaking for the vast majority of WvW players here when I say we want real meaningful WvW content and fixes to population balance and to the scoring systems. I am really not afraid to say “We” in that context, as it includes all of my guild friends who have literally been starving for new content as well.

The OP isn’t strictly talking about communication either, he mentions content and patches.

Personally I have spent tons of money on the Gem store expecting something new for WvW after EotM and I am truly disappointing that my money didn’t go to produce more WvW content.

Players already have the ability to balance the game themselves. The majority choose not to and instead transfer to the top tier servers to stack them.

I think it’s time to finally admit that the players are at fault here at least as much as Anet is, but that doesn’t seem to be happening in significant enough numbers so far. It’s easier to continue to live in denial and play the blame-game.

Gem price is too expensive, it should be free with a time-gate on transfers. Then they need to add a WvW guesting system, where you can help servers in need but will not receive Wxp for it.

They say we don’t know what they are preparing behind the scene… But honestly when you have zero information on anything meaningful being done in a year and all you hear about is the removal of white swords you have to wonder just how disconnected they are from their competitive players. This game has so much amazing potential not being explored it’s mind boggling.

They have a new PvE mechanic where an enemy can steal your boons, it’s full of nice new visual effects, then in WvW there is nothing new! No new fields, no new skills, no new boons, no new maps, no new game types, no new traits, no new ideas at all.

In a year you get 3 new tag colors (people can no longer afford tags in return) and a siege disabler that is often making the game frustrating.

When GW1 came out it quickly became king of competitive play in MMOs, but GW2 still has a long way to go to live up to that name.

Anyway, no point repeating it over and over. Either they aren’t doing anything for WvW or they are very bad at creating hype for new upcoming content.

Sounds complicated…
Would be easier to make a new commander tag hue color and sell it on the gem store, for 401 gems! (hahaha).

WvW CDI, update, projects underway?

They are testing removing white swords soon.

In other words: They are doing the strict absolute minimum when it comes to WvW.

Pushing PvP much...

They just need to make new pvp maps if they want more people to play pvp. People are not attracted to game modes that are no longer evolving.

New Player, so excited!

Hopefully you won’t have to wait another year to try SAB.

They need to increase the recharge on Rapid-Fire or lower the damage by 20%. That’s about it.

Oh really? Make it worse than what is was even before the reduced the casting time on it? That’s excellent, excellent balancing (not).
I’d rather take the old 4,5 second channel back then, but the skill is fine as it is now.

Rangers were find before. It’s was already a good WvW and PvP class. No class should have such burst damage skills at such long range. Right now Rapid Fire feels like the crit nerf never happen for that class.
Elementalists meteors were nerfed from 10k to 4k on full berserkers builds (60% nerf: crit nerf and meteornado nerf + aoe circle so you can dodge out). Backstab was nerfed from 12k to 7k with the crit nerf, yet rangers press 1 key and do 15k damage from a 1500 range.

It’s totally unneeded and unwanted, and another fail balance mistake to add to the list.

You might want to go test things out before throwing those numbers around

Done that.

Ranged Weapons are very poorly balanced

The problem with the elementalists auto-attack on staff is that it is so slow for the damage it does that most of the time its just better to keep your rotation going with your other skills. Most of the time I don’t use them at all unless I’m chilled and cant swap attunement.

Add EotM to the PPT rotation and harmonize the rewards between all the WvW maps. Keep the overflow version for upscale characters.
