Made an engi, leveled him to 80 using all my PvP scrolls and 50 skillpoints things. Unlocked all the skills I needed and now I only have a few minor traits. How long must I play with this traitless character until I have all the traits and can start theory-crafting builds?
Can we just keep PvP in PvP zones and PvE in PvE zones?
We’re talking about having a dueling option, not Free for All PvP.
Stop panicking about map completion.
Also, I don’t think Anet is making PvP zones, so we’ll have to PvP somewhere else than these old WvW maps if they want us to keep playing the game.
I would like Free transfers to servers that have been losing let’s say for 6 weeks in a row.
Xillllix — we don’t talk about what we’re working on, but by the same token, not talking doesn’t mean that something is and will be completely untouched, right? How many times has something rolled out that has really surprised players, and in a good way? “I didn’t even know they were thinking about that” comes up quite often. Or “I saw some talk about this a while back, but didn’t expect to see it in the game.” I am not saying everything is under development, but just wanting to point to the fact that lots can happen behind the scenes because that is worth noting and is backed by the historical evidence of past updates.
Sorry I wasn’t talking about the CDI but about the interviews Anet gave in the past that always deliberately avoided the question of GvG. I do am looking forward to see what competitive stuff you guys have been working on behind the scenes, of course.
You have to realize that I participated a bit in the last CDI on EotM where basically we were discussing how to implement the best EotM features into EB (make SM battle more captivating using all 3 levels of the castle), the Borderlands and ways to encourage defending in EotM.
Nothing out of what people proposed there ever came along.
Xillllix — understood. Thanks for the summing up, I think you did it fairly (and that’s not always easy when someone feels strongly about a subject) and well.
Thanks to you as well!
I enjoy everything you guys do and play all of it, but I prefer competitive content and hardcore PvE (Fractals, dungeons and SAB).
I think you’ve said a lot, SpellOfIniquity, and thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for (I assume) sharing my opinion ^^.
I understand people’s desire to have open world PvP but I’ve done a lot of PvP in various different games, I’m a competitive person… And I can tell you first hand that PvP can bring out the worst in people. I’d hate to see that kind of behavior anywhere in Tyria.
Why? Dueling on top of mount maelstrom would be epic. Being afraid people will argue isn’t a good argument against open world PvP. And this isn’t other games, it’s GW2, it can be done differently.
They’ve always been reluctant to talk about GvG. I have the feeling they’re going to delay this one as long as possible as they have always avoided any discussions on the topic.
I registered to this forum 3 days after I got this game to ask where the GvG game mode was. I literally bought this game for GvG because it was in GW1.
If they haven’t even started to work on it by now I don’t think there is any hope…
I think you’ve said a lot, SpellOfIniquity, and thank you for sharing your thoughts.
TY Gaile but you are replying to someone who was largely off topic. The purpose of this thread isn’t to sell people the idea that open world PvP would be fun (we know this already, as long as it is properly incorporated into the game, ex: arena system in a city, specific overflows, etc).
The purpose of this thread is to highlight the strange feeling that the new PvE content could serve existing game modes but doesn’t. There is a huge quality difference between the graphic and gameplay details of the latest Living Story release and old WvW maps which haven’t been updated since the lake was removed form the borderlands. When we see so much energy go toward the creating of a living story episode that most people will only play once and farm for a month we end up wondering why isn’t the same amount of energy spent on making new WvW and PvP maps that will be played for years.
Then the issue of a GvG mode we’ve been asking for since the release of GW2, where a simple cut and paste (with some modifications) of a region of the new PvE content would certainly work for a GvG battleground with 2 keeps.
However you must know this since you designed them. Therefore we can only wonder why isn’t new WvW content released along the Living Story releases?
As for Open World PvP, it is good or bad only depending on the method by which it is implemented. It’s obvious that a simple large scale PvP system wouldn’t be fun for everyone. However a simple dueling option outside of cities, or an arena, a bounty system, are all things that would work without wrecking the fragile heart of people that just want to get their dailies done.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
You wished they had the guts to do it. Open world PvP would be amazing specially if you could:
1- Have a dueling option
2- Have Open world “Guild Wars” where a guild can declare war on another guild and be in Open world PvP/GvG together.
Well it would be nice if they worked as hard into their game modes.
- 1/3 of Siverwaste would be perfect as a GvG map.
- Most of the map could work as a small scale WvW map.
- The LS ice/crystal palace could work as a multiplayer dungeon instead of being basically single-player content inside a MMO.This play it coulb be worth playing more than once.
- Little PvP area in Silverwaste shows that Open world duels are possible, even open world large scale PvP/WvW if they wanted.
Again, amazing artistic work from Anet, that is undeniable, but considering the potential of the artistic work there is clearly a lack of vision when its only meant to be played once and farmed.
What’re you all talking about?
The new Silverwaste map and LS has stuff that could be used for PvP, open world PvP, dungeons, WvW and GvG yet it’s all at the service of the Living Story.
Either they are teasing us of things to come or as someone else mentioned, they are just adding to the insult of all these game mode not getting content.
ESO is going to have Open World PvP soon with a bounty system, I don’t understand why Anet can’t find the courage to do it first.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
- New amazing looking PvE map that relies on WvW mechanics
- West part of the map looks like a GvG map teaser
- Little area to show us that open world PvP is quite possible and easy (we could have optional duels, opens possibilities for battle arenas)
- Finally an amazing Living story glass/crystal area that would be a perfect ambience for a dungeon or PvP arena but instead is made to be played alone
Is this a teaser of things to come? Competitive players have been waiting for new content for a year…
They need to increase the recharge on Rapid-Fire or lower the damage by 20%. That’s about it.
Oh really? Make it worse than what is was even before the reduced the casting time on it? That’s excellent, excellent balancing (not).
I’d rather take the old 4,5 second channel back then, but the skill is fine as it is now.
Rangers were find before. It’s was already a good WvW and PvP class. No class should have such burst damage skills at such long range. Right now Rapid Fire feels like the crit nerf never happen for that class.
Elementalists meteors were nerfed from 10k to 4k on full berserkers builds (60% nerf: crit nerf and meteornado nerf + aoe circle so you can dodge out). Backstab was nerfed from 12k to 7k with the crit nerf, yet rangers press 1 key and do 15k damage from a 1500 range.
It’s totally unneeded and unwanted, and another fail balance mistake to add to the list.
Yes new WvW maps are absolutely needed, or any sort of improvement towards WvW gameplay. It’s been so neglected by Anet it’s unbelievable.
They said it takes them a year to make a single WvW map, which I don’t believe is true otherwise this game would have taken 25 years to make considering all the areas it contain. I just think they’ve stopped development of WvW.
To balance class they need to do a super simple thing:
Change the AoE limit according to the armor class.
Heavy armor, AoE limit of 3
Medium armor, AoE limit of 5
Light armor, AoE limit of 7
Immobilize stacking is the most broken aspect of this game. I can’t believe people defend a something that prevents you from moving until your dead.
It totally kills the game.
They need to harmonize EotM rewards with the other maps and then add it to the PPT rotation, where it should have been in the first place.
I think it’s too late now, unless there is a large amount of content soon to be released there is not much hope for GW2’s future.
They should have GvG released right around the corner, we shouldn’t be asking to have a discussion on the topic. What would a discussion accomplish beside remind us how cool it would be and how Anet missed the mark?
At this point it’s better to hope for GW3.
The game needs hardcore level 80+ content, no upscale stuff. Everyone I know just craft to 80 or play PvP until they have 60 tomes of knowledge.
The problem is that what we need isn’t just Guild Halls, GvG, Raiding, new skills, etc. It needs all of the above released as an expansion, and released soon. I sincerely hope that is what have you been doing at Anet all that time we were kept in the dark…
Raiding and rewards obtained from it:
To have Raiding be the least of interesting you need to increase the party limit and release new skills for level 80+. Maybe raise the level cap with another ranking system that give you access to these new skills.
Else we are raiding for what? 3 yellow items and some random loot? No!
Please tell the top manager at Anet that after 2 years we don’t need more random gear or gem store skins for rewards. We need new skills, traits, classes and weapon types for rewards.
I can’t understand why after over 2 years you’ve only been able to release a few healing skills almost nobody uses (they are not even better than the older skills), considering all the developers you guys have.
These rewards need to be usable in new balanced competitive context: GvG it is.
Guild halls are just the minimum you can expect from a game that claims itself to be a derivative of Guild Wars 1.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
I don’t think it’s the same GW1 team that developed GW2.
In GW1 you could customize your entire skill bar. An elementalist could for example specialize in air.
GW1 had much more skills to choose from, elites were much more interesting.
GW1 had huge hardcore dungeons with a much darker tone.
GW1 had balanced GvG that is still light years beyond GW2 PvP.
GW1 had party of 8 peoples.
Reall party collaboration thanks to the trinity system or healer/dps/tank.
GW1 story was much better.
GW1 had new content released as expansion.
GW1 had no gem store kitten, everything was available by playing the game.
…and so much more some of us were lucky enough to experience.
GW2 is more similar to the other MMO on the market and much less original in that regard. It has a great field blasting and dodging mechanic but a terrible class balance which always benefit stacking groups. Also it went overboard with immobilize and daze/confusion stacking.
It is certainly original in its content removal method, there is barely anything new in the game, everything new to the release has been removed besides skins.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
Yeah this was another cool thing the ele could do that is now useless thanks to a nerf.
To add of the list of cool things we can’t do anymore, like summon an elite while in mist form.
I like specially the new Dry Top WvW map. Looks very good.
Yes perhaps an expansion is not the best thing for this game, but it’s all Anet can do now after making us wait for so long without new permanent content.
If they had expanded the world, let’s say one zone per 2 months, then we would have over 10 new zones by now. Since all they’ve released are 2 areas about 1/8th the size of a zone people expect them to release one big chunk of content.
Megaservers were made to compensate for all the empty maps because people are leaving the game. People are leaving the game because of the lack of new competitive content like GvG, guild halls and hardcore PvE dungeons, as well as a lack of variety (only party of 5 people, no new skills, no new weapon types, no new classes).
No since then Anet has gave us ZERO information about upcoming permanent content, they’ve even announced some new stuff like SAB would never come back. They backtracked probably when they feared losing even more players after that mistake.
Players complaints for the first year was: “everything is temporary”.
Their answer for season 2: “That’s all that you’ll get from now on, but if you want you can repeat it 10 times for achievements and grinding”.
Gem store update in last feature patch: "Don’t worry that “BUY MORE GEMS” button will only bring you to the same old screen". Then 2 months later they change that screen to a complete money grab with buy buttons everywhere. Players complained, once more they backtracked.
It seems with the CDI that they are really starting to understand that what this game needs is what players have been asking for since beta, Guild Raids, Guild Halls, Guild vs Guilds.
I have the impression that these thing takes time to do and therefore they have been trying to slow down player progression with the new trait system just to keep people playing longer while they work on these new game modes.
However we’ve waited a year now, buying gems to finance their work, and nothing was even announced. I give them 2 more months, if by the end of 2015 they have not announced that at least one of these features is coming I’m gone.
The ele is the most nerfed class in this game. It’s only a pale shadow of what the class was once. One more nerf and I’m never touching mine again.
Posted about this over a year ago.
Apparently Anet thinks that it is no big deal if you cannot play with your friends in a MMO. It would be too complex to program to let us play with our friends.
At least SAB did let us play with our friends, but that content has been long gone.
Glymph of elemental in a comparison:
Press a million buttons and doesn’t do kitten.
I think the OP is upset about all the CC that prevent you from fighting back. Actually he’s not that wrong, it’s completely broken.
On one side anet is dumbing the game down so that you dont even learn to dodge until higher levels, and on the other it’s making it so that face to organized players there is absolutly nothing you can do:
Necro boonstrip stability – Fear, Mesmer daze, Ranger pewpewpew, and your dead.
No matter how bad or good you are at the game there is nothing that can counter that combo.
lol Esport.
5 turret Engi = insta win.
Let’s say that Anet released Tengu as a playable eace and nothing else. Would that really add anything to the game if you had already experienced all of the existing content? Would doing the personal story, dungeons, world boss zergs, etc be any different as a different race?
Let’s say Anet adds the Dervish class to the game tomorrow and only that. Would that really add anything to the game? You’re still experiencing the same content but with a different play-style. You’re telling me that running AC or CoF for the 1.000th time will be different as a new class?
Let’s say that Anet adds 100 new skills to the game tomorrow and only that. Would that really add anything new to the already existing content that you wouldn’t get from a major skill balance update? There will always be a meta and it would just change to use those existing skills.
I don’t think anyone is advocating that they release a new race and nothing else. Now if they added a new race, a racial storyline similar to the first third of the PS, and a home city for the race, I certainly wouldn’t complain. I wouldn’t say that is enough for the game, but it would be a good addition rather than an insignificant one. I personally would prefer if a new race gets released along with a new class so I can make a new character that is both the new race and new class. As for adding new classes and new skills. Yes, that adds something new.
Note that people don’t advocate for one thing and just one thing. A combination of things will make for a better game. I also want new dungeons and PvP types. Those would also provide more things to do for the classes you already have.
For a year all we got was this little PvE world area called Dry Top, Living Story, and UI improvements, so the question is:
Besides those, what have they been doing for all that time with their full development team?
Possible answers:
A- Preparing an expansion (yet they do not announce anything, therefore are not creating any hype at all)
B- Working on another game: http://www.examiner.com/article/guild-wars-2-publisher-inks-unreal-engine-4-guild-wars-3-coming
C- Nothing else than what we’ve seen (not probable)
They need to increase the recharge on Rapid-Fire or lower the damage by 20%. That’s about it.
They probably had some random person do this on request, because it was in no way made by a dedicated artist. It just seems totally rushed, and why would you rush something for WvW if you haven’t worked on WvW for a year? This perhaps is the strongest confirmation we can get that there is no WvW team.
It’s time to move to GvG, Guild Halls and world expansion.
As a friend mentioned to me yesterday, it seems like Anet is working on a strange anti-investment marketing idea, where they try to make money from the less content possible in order to cut on short term development.
I am almost certain they are working on a new game and that only a limited team is tied to development for this game.
The ele has been nerfed to the ground. I mean we used to do 10k meteors and now they are at like 5k max.
Crit nerf, divinity nerf, crit on celestial nerf, mist form nerf, RTL nerf, Elemental attunement nerf, Soothing disruption nerf, meteornado nerf, condi-cleanse and healing nerf, etc.
It’s just a pale shadow of what it used to be. Yes it can still be good in the hand of a good player, but the difficulty scale is insane in comparison to a thief/mesmer/ranger, where even noob can destroy you just pressing a few keys.
Once more, would be better to have 38 pages of people congratulating Anet on the implementation of GvG and Guild Halls instead of 38 pages of people complaining.
Been waiting for GvG since the freaking release. It is the most defining feature of GW1 and it isn’t even in GW2.
They’ll change it, but I doubt we will get the progression graph back.
If Anet needs money so bad then they should just make an expansion.
My all purpose build is 0/0/6/4/4, it does good damage and deals better with condi.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAoYhMMKc2zwzBr0AdAGxRQFYcAoAEAL+CaBA-TJxHwADeAAa2fAwJAoYZAA
It’s mostly to counter the older meta of thieves and necro.
If you want a build that works specifically against the new meta of mesmer/rangers you’ll probably want to go scepter/focus.
I think when you launch the game you should have a screen that says: Are you a confused person? Because this is what we are getting at right? New players are kinda “slow to understand” (must be all that kittenty music they listen to) and since they cannot understand a simply conversion mechanic, you are trying to make money on their back.
In that case I suggest that upon installation the games promps you to an IQ test, after which players would be assigned to a specific TP interface and also have access to a different leveling system. For example those with an IQ under 90 would only have a huge BUY button that takes all the space of the interface and would unlock dodging only at level 30.
Maybe it’s time to move on for me, at least until Anet get back on track. We seem light-years away from a real GvG mode and Guild Halls. That new Sid Meier game will certainly hold my interest for the next 6 months.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
I feel like this is something they must’ve foreseen, and that this change is not at all for quality of life, it’s to make more money…/
They are making money on the back of people that are confused, so it’s ok…
Instead of adding a little question mark that explained how it worked for new players with… let’s be honest here…. “above average” difficulties (because non of “us” ever had problems with it), Anet decided to make a buck on their back.
It’s quite funny in a way: “Hey your having difficulties there so let us help you, buy this 100 gems and we will give you 95 back and 5 as spare in case you want to buy more, in case you don’t… well, anyway it’s too complicated to explain to you since you’re a new player”
Wow, why do they waste time making stuff like that when all their energy should be making a GvG mode, Guild Halls, new WvW maps and new PvE world areas with dungeons?
You would expect after another year they would make at the very least a new PvP map, but no, it seems for them it’s “the new player experience” all the way.
Anyway, I don’t care at this point since I won’t ever buy anything on the gem store until they have new content to play.
While I’m not surprised by Gail’s reaction to this, I think the forum’s response would be obvious. After its reaction to all the other NPE changes, it’s clear that this would never go over well and just add more fuel to the fire that is now burning brighter against the game. Given that, to ask for suggestions now seems a little disingenuous. Anet should have asked fro suggestions before implementing the system. They would have avoided angering their customers and come up with a better solution.
Unfortunately, the approach we are seeing here is one a company would take if they have no intention of making the changes players are suggesting. I do believe that this is probably an order from higher up at NCSoft, and Anet just has to deal with it also. Gail is simply doing her job and telling us what she’s been told to, while the execs hope that the rage will die down and GW2 won’t implode suddenly like so many games that got really greedy before it.
This game started ok, then it went off track now it seems to be going downhill fast… Considering all the money I spent buying gems I seriously don’t think I’ve got my money’s worth: I thought I was contributing for GvG and new hardcore content. Finally I don’t think I’ll be around much longer because NONE of that came along.
What this reminds me of is the old gift card racket, where they wouldn’t cash out the change. So you’re stuck with a couple cents on the card and no way to get it out.
Either ANet is dishonest or stupid…
It’s an unethical business practice. It would be like being unable to use the left overs on a gift card.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
I wouldn’t call it a buff. They broke it completely, now they are fixing their mistake. It’s a bug fix.
Half a dozen balance patch down the road it now feels the game is entirely based on making you opponent unable to use his skills. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, it is probably how Anet think combat should be, that people should be unable to fight back once their stun breaker or stability is gone.
However isn’t that the source of all the balance problems? The Ranger making twice more damage than some other class in twice less time is not a problem per say, but when you’re knockdown, rooted and worse: sit bugged because you jumped, it is a huge problem. Same with Mesmer insane dps shatter build: the damage is fine, but when your dazed every time you try to counter it becomes a problem. Similarly the engineer turret build in PvP, knocks you down every few seconds… no problem I just have to wait… wait what? 1 minute for stability!
And some other classes depends entirely on CC just to work, like the elementalist. There is so much skill lag and the skills are so slow to go off that unless you can pin down your opponent for a few seconds most skills are literally useless.
What about the immobilize stacking? Was that necessary on top of it all?
In my opinion Guild Wars 1 had a much better fighting system: even if you couldn’t dodge at least you didn’t get stuck for 10 seconds unable to use any skills.
So is this what Anet wanted? A game where 2 hammer warriors could prevent an opponent from fighting back?
You want to know why WvW has blobs everywhere? It’s because the CC mechanics only favors the larger group. As soon as more players of the same class use their CC on another class it’s game over (specially in PvP):
2 thieves will have perma stealth and backstabs
2 rangers will knock you down twice and kill you before you can do anything
2 engi will make you immob or knock you around as they lay grenades under you
2 mesmers will daze you so that you cannot cast any skills
2 hammer warriors will knock you down ceaselessly
And then there are those class combos:
Necro boonstrip your stability and cast fear, ranger use quickness/rapidfire. Doesn’t matter if its 50 vs 1 or 2 vs 1, you still cant fight back because by the time fear is over you’ll be dead.
All this taken into consideration, I think the solution to make the combat system more enjoyable and more balanced while discouraging blobbing up is:
1- Give more stability or more stun breakers to some classes (specially light armor classes)
2- Prevent immob stacking.
3- Increase AoE limit for light armor AoE classes
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
Yes, that has never been fixed, happens all the time specially since people tend to jump when running away from a group.
And on top of that the /sit bug seems to be back.
Yes it is a terrible bug. Makes the skill unreliable: for example it doesn’t even work on EotM bridges.
