WvW Improvements until expansion?

WvW is has been neglected for a year, basically all tiers beside tier 1 and 2 are generally empty and there is nothing really to do other than fight since basically nobody cares about PPT as it only reflects server coverage.

The only good thing that has been added to the gameplay in the last year, PPK, has been removed. (why?)

The truth is PPK should count for more than PPT; Your server shouldn’t make more points when everyone is sleeping than when everyone is playing. Bring it back and up it to 5 pts per kill.

Personally, the only thing that keeps me playing the game at this point is GvG, a game mode that is still not supported.

Do you plan to gradually bring this game mode to the level of the new expansion? Or are we just supposed to play something else?

It’s one of the skill that is out of balance by at least 15%.

They would rather nerf the ele with his hard to land churning earth.

Yeah I know, new players are super confused about all that stuff. I tried to show WvW to a new player and I was like “what? sorry whisper me in a week when you’re level… (gotta go see on internet level requirement) and I’ll show you”.

Then I was trying to explain to the same new player how you need to use skill points to unlock traits in a trait system he needs to unlock only at certain levels, and that you get from a specific vendor. Forget it, this is so much worse than what it was before.

I got the top of the line MacBook pro with 16 gigs of ram and solidstate hd.

The game was working PERFECTLY for almost a year, until mid-season-2 where the old bugs started coming back (Lockbit errors, etc)

Mac version for WvW always crash in large fights. This is an old bug that was fixed before, it came back about 5 months ago.

Stronghold will succeed unless they don’t stop class stacking:
I think we’ve all had enough of fighting 5 guardians, or 5 engies.

Can you imagine fighting 10 or 15 medi-guardians, or 15 bunker eles, or 15 turret engies.
The game will never be balanced until a limit is set on how many of the same class is allowed.

Generally speaking the elementalist class wouldn’t rely on might stacking in the first place if it could stay alive with its points in other trait lines…

Anet really underestimated the interest for GvG. Even if they are adding PvP Stronghold they should also make OS friendlier for large scale GvG.

Ranger so op. After day playing i play ranger more effective than i play ele after 3k hours. I don’t even remember any skills. I just use elite, signet, barrage, rapid fire and i get lot’s of bags.

You must be a pretty garbage ele then.

Well this just tell how op class ranger is. I play ele much much better than i play ranger and still ranger is superior.

then you are indeed a garbage ele. that or you had some beginners luck with that ranger.

that being said, the grass always seems greener when you swap to something you usually dont use, i had the same feeling when i tried to main warrior after 1900 hours on ranger. Seemed to be so much more effective, until i counted the kills on a good ranger game vs a good warrior game. Lets just say, i was 35 kills over warrior with my ranger.

I think what he’s trying to say is that to make 75% the damage of a ranger on the ele you have to pull off a perfect 10-skill combo chain while dodging like a monkey, and it’s still going to take twice more time to do the damage.

The longbow damage is too much, no other reason is needed to nerf it.
It can do 20k damage to a single target within the duration of a necro fear, from 1500+ range (depending on terrain) and that is game breaking.

The only question is why would they buff it in the first place? Nobody was complaining before, now it’s has become just an annoyance to the game. Root duration is also too long for a class with that high dps.

How should they nerf it? Simple: Invert the mechanic, make it do less damage the further away you are.

Yes, totally agree. I’m making my third legendary right now and will not do map completion until it’s the last thing left, in case Anet fixes this and make map completion account bound in the next feature patch.

They’ll have to do something, either introduced WvW improvements gradually or 1 new pvp map and some new skins to farm for, perhaps hardcore mode for dungeons, or something that could make the PvE harder and more rewarding.

GvGs are probably going to be 10v10 or 15v15 considering the classes are balanced around the basic unit of a party of 5 people.

20v20 will be too blobby for Anet as they will probably consider it not different enough from WvW open field.

Personally I’m hyped about it. I hope there is good map variety and not too many map mechanics that unbalance the combat meta (like a treb that does 10k damage or traps everywhere). I actually like the idea of PvP stats, it’s going to put everyone at the same level right from the start and will make it about skill instead of gear.

The problem with EOTM isnt the map PvE elements, it’s the lack of reason to defend because PPT are not added to the server score.

You will all get to see a lot more of the map soon. We’ve certainly tried to learn lessons from the original map as well as Edge of the Mists in order to take this new version to a new level for WvW.

People seem to forget that eles go full bunker because they are the squishiest class and die in 2-3 hit or a necro or thief when focused.

Might stacking was the ONLY solution to stay alive and do half-decent damage. Now that it’s been taken out what are d/d eles supposed to do? Go kamikaze? Where they don’t even have time to do 1 churning Earth before being dead… Or go full water bots?

The problem has never been with might stacking, the problem has always been the crappy traits outside water and useless utility skills and elites the elementalist has.

Seriously my meteor shower was nerfed from 9k to 3k thanks to the meteornado nerf, crit nerf, and divinity nerf. All the class gets is nerfs and nerfs, over and over. And now we get a might nerf on top of it.

On almost 4/5 games when I solo Q unranked, I become paired with people that literally run builds that they made up on spot and have at least 3 of them standing on one node.
I’m assuming that my mmr is somehow really low that I shouldn’t play pvp unless with a full team or my mmr is the greatest in the world that match making thinks I should be able to 1v5 and win every single encounter.

I’ve seen all signet kill shot warriors, p/p SA thief, PU mesmer, and almost all kinds of builds that do not benefit in conquest mode anyway, and they are always stacked on my side. The matchmaking is so bad that either I’m on a winning team that wins by majority without trying or on a losing side where people have no idea how to rotate or even play their class.

If this is the case where I am constantly with people that do not try to win at all, I have to either quit pvp or run some cleric thief healing build and throw the game since I will be losing whether I am trying or not.

People that I speak with are sick of the meta, many want to experiment variations on it. As for unexperienced players there is nothing you can do about that unless the matchmaking system takes that into account. There are some cool builds possible also if you can think outside the box.

Also, you can’t just player’s skill by their build or their gear. When I join an unranked match I respect that the other people there have the right to try whatever they want.
75% of the time when you lose it is due to bad rotation more than anything else.

In my opinion, what needs to be done for PvP to be an Esport.

1- Allow only 2 maximum of each armor type per match to start balancing health and armor pools (bare minimum of balance)

Classes:
2- Buff the ele minor traits in other lines than water for more dps, armor and vitality, nerf cleansing water with a cooldown to compensate. Give the ele a good elite worth using. Increase staff animation speed for gust and many other slow skills.

3- Change the Ranger longbow damage, it should do less damage at greater range. Nerf root duration.

4- Increase the cooldown by 15-20% on engi immobilize turrets and knockdown skills, increase their healing turret speed.

5- Improve the auto-targetting system so that it doesn’t target windows or pets/minions.

6- Increase Necro mobility, nerf F1 autoattack by 15% or increase the cooldown

7- Warrior, make hammer stun/knockdowns of a 15% shorter duration

8- Guardian, increase dps with GS and Hammer by 5%

9- Thieves seem in a good spot

You guys have to prevent profession stacking. If this is to be an esport then don’t allow 3 turrets engies in the same team.

A thief and mesmer cannot stealth in a capture points, an ele cannot mist form in it, etc, but an engi can place 6 turrets in a capture point and spam immobilize and knockdowns like there is no tomorrow. On top of that when you allow 3 engis or more of them in the same team GW2 PvP becomes completely broken. Literally everyone I played with that faced these conditions mentioned or agreed that it is a completely unfair advantage.

The same thing with the machinegun ranger, taking any non-bunker light armor class to 0% hp in 1or 2 seconds (with haste) unless he uses all his utility skills and heals. This just promotes frustration. This is a skill buff where you really dropped the ball and should have done it incrementally instead. Then place 3 of them in the same team… You got 15 seconds AoE chain immobs with sustained range damage greater than half a dozen backstab.

For Anet it seems the elementalist has one of 2 main role, with variations depending on the weapons:
1- A Water bot for WvW (staff) / Cleansing bunker for PPT hold in PvP (“OP Meta” d/d)
2- CC/AoE (capped) spamming (on staff) on top of a tower dying from a single necro auto-attack, a glass canon d/d kamikaze in WvW that always die first

You have to jump through so many hoops with this class just to do the same damage other classes do pressing 1 button, yet it is always nerfed.

If the Might rune was OP then they just needed to add more runes that enhances other boons equally, ex: 7% extra damage when under the protection boon, etc.

PPK Addition and Removal

They apparently don’t know what to do:

1: Design maps for a capture the Orb gameplay
THEN: remove the orb instead of fixing it and stopping hackers, they replace it with nothing at all. Core gameplay element is gone

2: They add the ruins that everyone finds too boring to do because of the “stand in a circle mechanic”. Then we are told that “stand-in-a-circle mechanic” is supposed to replace the previous CTF element…

3: They spend a year making a great looking new map (EOTM) and then rush the implementation, doesn’t add it to the competitive borderlands, give it 4 times the rewards of all the other maps and turn it into a karma train where upscale avoid fight for PvE loot.

4: They make a WvW CDI discussion thread, where out of the hundreds of great ideas that were proposed to improve the game only commander tags make it into the game a year later.

5: After 95% of the matchups have completely predictable tournament results for the third time in a row they finally decide to implement PPK, only to remove it and bring us back to the same old predictable stale games less than a month later.

6. Then there is all the smaller stuff: crit nerf, arrow cart wars, getting stuck in terrain bugs, teleport skills not working on bridges, AoE limit, stacking zergs, impossible achievements, dated graphics, broken matchups, empty servers, scattered population, unsupported GvG arena not on mega server with no selectable overflow, etc.

The expansion has better be good.

They couldn’t remove the AOE 5-target limit. Their servers wouldn’t cope with it.

The could pay for a better server service then. If ESO can do 60 AoE cap with 1000 players on a map GW2 should be able to do the same with 5 times less players and maps 10 times smaller.

I can not for the life of me get the hang of this class. I’ve used popular builds that do tons of damage, but I get insta-killed by some high level veterans. VETERANS!!! I’ve even made my own build that made me extremely durable, but I did so little damage, I almost never even got registered in most events in Orr or the Silverwastes. Not even a bronze participation. So, that was useless.

I need tips on how to balance not dying and still doing enough damage that the game knows I actually exist.

The elementalist is the only class that is balanced according to the professionals gamers who participate in tournaments…

Systematic nerfs since the game release has placed the ele in a position where it does about 50% less damage than it used to do. Therefore stacking might is the method to get some of the damage we once had, but that is getting nerfed too.

What about build variety for the elementalist. It is what you promised yet everything you do pushes the class further into a corner, either total bunker or total dps.
Everyone I know that plays ele feels the same way.

Bunker d/d: 0/0/2/6/6
Burst d/d: 6/0/0/4/4
Fresh air s/f: 0/6/0/4/4

It’s all there is: 3 builds possible, that’s not some heavy build variety there.

And the truth is you removed build variety since the start:
- Mist Form healing nerf removed glass canon possibilities
- Soothing disruption nerf did the same, forcing us to have 4 point in water instead of 2 because the class is so weak it cannot survive without cantrips regen
- Elemental attunement pushed to Master trait did the same, no build is possible without 4 points in arcana.
- All our elites are kitten and useless beside the Glyph, Tornado because of your latest nerf
- And our dps has been nerfed so bad (staff ele meteor-nado 50% damage nerf)

Now you’re going to destroy the damage output of the only viable bunker build the class has by another 10% for might and battle sigil, + another 10% on lightning whip.

Why are build like 4/4/6/0/0 still not possible? You said you would fix build variety for ele, then it should be possible to have 4 points in fire and 4 in air, without being a total “die in 1 hit” class.

Seriously, it’s easy to predict that at the next balance patch you will nerf Fresh Air burst, because that will be what all the elementalist wil be playing when they see their damage is gone from bunker.

The Engis aren’t OP because of the Sigil of Battle, their damage is fine. They are OP because of the constant knockdowns, immob, daze and the fact that they can be immune to immob on top of it.

I main a rangfer and thieves are the least of my concern. I suggest investing on your armor.

Yeah but your pew pew channels into the Thief even if he stealths. The rest of us have to be able to see him to deal damage. As far as armor, I wear full ascended armor and trinkets and still take close to 7k per Backstab alone. That’s a third of my health pool in one hit, and followed by whip this whip that, Heartseeker, all within a second or two. Stealth itself isn’t the problem, it’s the completely ridiculous damage that goes with it.

i did mention that i play a heavy condition build so that means I don’t use a longbow. i use axe+warhorn and shortbow.

what set are you running? berserker, soldier, celestial, settler, or rabid? wvw is not the same as pve. thief is only scary when you are fighting them as a beginner but as you learn stuff to deal with them, you’d be laughing about that post that you just made.

btw, why would you let a thief land a backstab on you? once, a thief stealths maximum time that he can stay there is 4-5 seconds unless he used shadow refuge. just count 1 and 2, and prepare to dodge or block and if you have access to an aoe burst, drop it on your feet. always look at your back when you are roaming alone. if you see a thief following you, you can either prepare to go defensive or try to nuke him down first.

i am sure a lot of wvw players on your server can give you a lot more tips on handling zerker thieves.

Dire. Took over 10k from a Backstab just a few days ago. It is broken in my opinion. If you have the ability to reset the fight at any given time (= no risk) then the path to reward should be appropriately harder to climb.

I once took at 14k Killshot, and now they are making that skill 40% faster (thanks to some twisted game intentional unbalancing). If a warrior is stealthed there is no way to even see it coming. No skill should do more than 8k at full max berserker. In comparison it take 400% more time to cast a churning earth that does 50% less damage with a class that has 50% less hp.

I don’t do random… Got to level 30 fractals, never got a skin, did TA Aether path like 10 times, never got the skins. I learned my lesson, I’m either very unlucky or your drop rate are like a lottery ticket for 10 million $ prizes.

Since the coat is random I didn’t even try playing that boss.

If you want to prevent might stacking on ele just make it possible to survive without 4-6 points in water and 4-6 points in arcana. Right now the class is a 1-shot to kill class, so we have no choice to go bunker and stack might for power.

Make elemental attunement automatic (requiring no trait points), increase attunement recharge by 20% at base, increase our base hp or armor, and then we will be able to spend points in damage and wont rely on might staking. THEN nerf might stacking.

Another ele nerf to add to the super long list.

It’s not a small nerf, strength runes will probably no longer provide the best damage output.

Just like we had to scrap all our divinity runes, same thing will happen here when guilds make their new WvW/GvG meta.
