I’ve had almost the exact same thought, comparing a nearly 15 year old experience in EQ to the pets now. It is a little frustrating; I’d almost welcome seeing my pet off fighting Innoruuk by himself and bringing the entire Plane of Hate with him. At least he’d be fighting something.

Ah, the memories. Standing high up on the PoH wall, accidentally going too far up and your model clipping through the second story’s floor, agro’ing dozens of raid mobs onto your poor, unsuspecting raid. Good times.

But yeah, at least your pet would fight in vain against the first one that hit you.

I played a Mage for many years in EQ. For the most part, EQ pet AI was excellent. Pets attacked what you told it to and didn’t attack what you didn’t specify (if you had pet hold). The only issue sometimes was pathing, which is to be expected (I guess, pets should ignore pathing imo, which they do on many emulated EQ servers).

I’ve leveled both a Ranger and a Necro to 80, so I understand your pain. I constantly wished for the EQ interface / system over the current GW2 system. I’m not sure how it is so bad considering how amazing the rest of the game is.

I couldn’t agree more. I have no problem with the already-rare skins (Halloween, Legendary, etc.). I just don’t understand why that concept is being applied to SAB. SAB is all about fun and equality (profession doesn’t matter, everyone is the same profession in SAB). Why do we have to introduce the element of exclusionary content to this?

And I do not have an ulterior motive; I have farmed all the skins I want and have saved up quite a few Bubbles in anticipation of the next release. I just don’t understand the logic surrounding this decision.

Wacky. Whatever the Ele has (that maybe other toons don’t have) must have triggered the achievement. The question is why didn’t it trigger originally when you got it. Computers/programming drives me nuts sometimes (I code SQL all day).

Anyway, glad it worked out for you We’ve all been there before and I know how frustrating it can be.

That said, D/D, S/D and P/D are all solid for solo roaming, although I find S/D to be the least effective of all of these (but the best for 3-5 man roaming; again, just my personal experience and opinion).

TLDR; you’d probably be best served by sticking with your current setup and tweaking the build/gear toward your personal playstyle.

You’re saying D/D is stronger than S/D… Just lol. Try the combination of D/P and S/D, they compliment each other so much. I think you’re just not experienced with S/D

Wow, chill out. Reread my post. I said: “just my personal experience and opinion”, not “this is the absolute truth.” I also said I felt it was the least effective, not ineffective, and this was only in regards to solo roaming. At worst, one should interpret this as a testament to the power of the other weapon load-out options. I am currently running S/D and SB because I enjoy the playstyle. It has its limitations and advantages like any other build.

I feel S/D is better than D/D with a small group due to more CC options. I personally feel that the burst from D/D is stronger in a solo situation than the CC from S/D (which a solo Thief doesn’t really need, most of the time). I solo roam about 50% of my time in WvW. I have found S/D weaker than D/D, D/P and P/D for that type of play, but this all comes down to individual skill and which build one can play the most effectively.

However, I did like your reference to MaRo. The man does know to analyze a market and write a great article.

Most Rangers treat WvW the same as PvE; they send their pet and then stand still while they pewpew with their LB/SB. They have no idea what to do when you manage to close the gap and get within melee range. I would be willing to bet this is due to LB/SB Ranger being a magnet for players who are keyboard-turners, etc.

However, that tanky melee Ranger build (I think mainhand Sword?) is really tough and fun to fight against. I don’t know why more Rangers don’t run this build. I guess it’s because they think using Barrage when you’re within Steal range is a better option.

I can confirm that TC emotes all the time. I don’t know why people think they’re any more classy than any other server.

The only two servers I’ve never fought for/against have been NS and SF. I have at least some experience with every other server and heavy experience with traditionally higher ranked servers (BG, TC, SOR, JQ, SBI, SOS).

From my personal experience in WvW, no one emote spams like Crystal Desert. Even when I was on BG (from Sept-Jan) and we spent months against the bitter SoR rivals, I never had SoR emote-spam/corpse-jump/etc. to the degree that CD seems to do routinely. This was almost exclusively against a solo/duo/trio roamer from inside the safety of a zerg, or after a 20+ zerg ran over 2-3 roamers.

I’d be curious to hear if others arrived at the same viewpoint.

WvW is what you make of it. Personally, I find WvW the most exciting when I am completely solo since there is no backup, no one to bail you out, no one to lean on and get lazy with your play.

Sunday morning I solo roamed for two hours and stole camps from DB (and some YB) since they controlled 95% of all WvW maps at that time.

I solo capped at least 20 camps (obviously recapped the same camps a few times), stole a few camp caps from other solo roamers, got into a few duels, ganked a few players that came to inspect the crossed-swords at the camps, ShortBow kited a few Guardians to an agonizingly slow death…all-in-all had a grand ol’ time.

Id suggest you take another look at that. Seriously, if you put in buy offers, you will get the same gear for around the same price without expending those badges.

I don’t understand; the gold cost for exotics in WvW is ~1g+100-200 badges. You can’t buy crafted 80 exotics on the TP for ~1g. At the minimum, you are going to get them for ~3g and that’s with a buy order (maybe as low as 2.5g for low demand items).

Also, with 6k badges, they have virtually no worth.

I’d be curious to see what Necro build you were running. tPvP builds don’t always translate well to WvW and vice versa.

Count the servers, also look at the sales data from NA and from EU. It’s not difficult to see which timezone has the larger group of players.

There are 24 NA servers. There are 27 EU servers, 13 of which are language specific. Current player population counts cannot be inferred from that.

Also, I am not familiar with any comprehensive sales data being published by ANet. Could you please post the link to this?
