I’ll go off on a stretch which is probably 99.99% incorect.

The Thaumanova Reactor and Fall of Abaddon fractals both have to do with Scarlett. Portals + Steam creatures from the reactor, and somehow Scarlett has obtained a power to dress up her minions like fallen gods!

I would not be surprised if I was correct, which I’m not. But this LS storyline is all over the place.

One funny side-effect of this change in hot-joins, a lot of people are rolling bunker guardian for apparently the first time, in hopes of locking down a capture point. Seems most of these new guardians are just beyond terrible, like no idea when to use their skills or how to bunker a point

Guardian/bunker is my main. I always felt forced to spec DPS for hotjoins or just queue for broken solo queues. Finally I can play how I want w/ equal rewards for the team.

Thought I took another picture. Had a bonewall up at 13 minutes, 0 turrets alive.

And what do you expect, all the PvErs are in WvW cause Anet gave them a bunch of new achievements to go after, and all the WvWrs are sitting in que.

Only difference is more players at Tequatl. Still same outcome.

It just seems like a pathetic attempt to push more people into the Tequatl encounter, because they know that there is a large playerbase that pursues every single achievement every day.

You give them too much credit. They most likely forgot to remove the boss week dailies in this case.

Whatever reason for it, I dont see a point in removing them, just like a whole bag of other dailies you either do them or you dont, no harm done. Someone will be happy about it at some point so why take that away?

Edit: dont get me wrong more different dialies instead would be great too… I’m in favor of adding things to the game. The general tone of the posts are more in favor of removing something and I find Anet removes or temps enough stuff in this game, no need for the players to push that even more.

It’s more like:

I want to log on and do dailies. I can do every single daily just fine. But the chances of me failing Tequatl post-patch is probably 99%. That’s not fun.

But with the Halloween patch, it doesn’t make sense. Yeah, you’re trying to get the Mini so you can fight the boss. But the achievements required to do it don’t make sense. I can progress to unlocking the final dungeon by doing the Clock Tower…. Wat?

People are considering open-world champs bosses now?

Wow.

And that is a key point right there, the open world champs are in fact not bosses at all, notice how none of them have unique names. Even Shatterer is actually a title, not a name. When one shatterer dies, another one takes it place. Actually bosses are all in instances only, none are actually in the open world, and do not respawn 10 minutes later unless you started the instances again which is not the same as respawning.

Um what… many champs have unique names…

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_champions

Like 95% of that list is " Champion ’ Generic Name’ " and they have no unique skill set what so ever. I know some do, but the champion zerg in Queensdale/Frostgourge being called bosses is laughable. They’re just glorfied mobs.

2.) Tequatl-Like bosses: IMO such a large scale encounter that requires numbers and coordination should be instanced.
3.) Living Story: IMO the story is progressing a little slowly. Especially since most of the story seems to be new story, not expanding on previous loose threads (could be wrong). I’m just afraid that the Scarlette story like will take longer than a year to tell.

B.) is definatley out of the question. People have played this game for thousands of hours without even seeing a precursor drop.

A.) Is more viable. But then again you’re subject to RNG. You could spend 10g and get a precursor, or 2000g before you see one. Not a lot of people end up spending less gold in the forge than what precursors are worth.

My suggestion – find an efficient way to make gold. You’ll be able to buy a precursor faster than farming for a precursor.

Anyone Else Feels Tired Of Living Story?

in Living World

Posted by: Xista.7391

Xista.7391

For the most part, I’ve been liking the living story. I like that there’s new content to do every two weeks and has a progressing story.

But since for the last month and a half, we really haven’t gotten any story what so ever. SAB has a mini-side story that’s probably not related with anything, plus I don’t find it all that fun. Tequatl was good in theory, but we all know how that turned out. So far we don’t know if there is any ‘significant’ story about him. Now with the new dungeon path (haven’t completed it yet), it doesn’t seem like there is too much story there either, nor content outside of that to do.

The optimist in me thinks that they’re working on a longer-term goal (significant releases). I’m pretty sure SAB/Tequatl were side-projects by the devs that made it to an actual release. Now we’re coming up on Halloween where the majority of that content is probably going to be the same as last year. Maybe their living story teams have some extra time to work on releases for the end of the year.

Have we become spoiled?

Xista.7391

I’ve become spoiled.

I tried to play WoW last month. I couldn’t stomach it. 5.2 content has been out since early March. Only thing that has changed was crappy ‘heroic’ scenarios that are kitten easy, and some daily quests in the Barrens.

GW2 has released 13 updates since then, compared to WoW’s 1 since March (had to look it up). Sure I may not be interested in everything that GW2 releases, but it’s still peaks my interest enough to log on an check everything out.

Oh, also I was a huge PvP-er in WoW. I tried queueing for a BG recently. After 9 minutes in queue, i just Alt+f4-ed. The game is no longer worth 15 dollars/month to me.

To Warcraft’s credit though, I do think the one thing they still do better is story telling. Guild Wars 2 has some pretty good story archs and interesting characters, but the cinematics of WoW and how serious their plots can get actually kept me invested longer than I thought. Even Cataclysm, a huge step backwards, had an excellent set up for Deathwing.

I really like though how I can just jump in and out of this game whenever I want. With Warcraft, I always felt I had to play EVERY day just so I could get my money’s worth. Now, we have an MMO that gives us surprisingly deep content all of which are free forever after you buy the game.

WoW’s story is probably better (OPINION), but GW2 keeps me more interested in theirs.

Why? The majority of WoW’s lore is told through quest text. Many players don’t know why they’re doing the things they’re doing in WoW. Many probably can’t tell you why the end raid bosses are being killed.

At least in GW2 most everything is voice acted, and released every 2 weeks. Plus I much prefer reading a short story with every update, rather than reading quest text on why I have to kill 10 rabbits.

But I think the majority of MMORPGs have poor story telling all-in-all. Each has their own thing that they do different that different people prefer.

How many hours is that? 60+?

money well spent i would say. Worse games out there that only give 5 hours total game time and sell for $60.

I played about 3000 hours of GW2, and I can happily say I should’ve spent my money on a game that would’ve given me 5 hours of gameplay. That game would’ve left me with some type of happy ending or a fulfillment of playing.

Guild Wars 2 was fun for the first few hours until I hit 80 and then the fun just slowly dissipated until it vanished and was replaced with work. No feeling of fulfillment. No feeling of joy. No feeling of accomplishment.

3000 hours? This games been out, what, ~400 days?

3000hours/400day = 7.5 hours a day? 52 hours a week. No wonder why you’re burned out, you play longer than most people work.

(400×24)÷3000=3.2 hrs daily. That seems more manageable than 7.5 hrs daily. Even so I would be bored too if I played this game daily even for that amount of time. No wonder your burned out and feel like it’s a job. TAKE A BREAK!

I’d recheck your units on that calculation there.

LFG tool making dungeon running worse?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xista.7391

Xista.7391

They are definitely worse than GW2LFG pugs.

Every single pug I get into has wiped at least once, no matter what the path is. Just today, wiped on the trash skip to killing the Acolytes in CoF P1. Had several people in HOTW1 try to kill the turrets that knock you back, just before the final boss (they wanted more loot)…. that was a first. Also did a CM story where we wiped about ~5 times.

I’m 99.99% sure that you’re average joe is queueing up for dungeons right now, because most people I run with have less than 1500 achievement points. And that’s great! But right now, it seems that the community as a whole is inexperienced with the game’s dungeons, as where people who used GW2LFG were (mostly) knowledgeable players.

I’m confident that people’s experience in the LFG tool will be better over time, as the community learns the dungeons. But right now, coming from a frequent GW2LFG pugger, I think i’ll continue to use that site for nwo.

Make the Elder Dragon Champions Instanced

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Xista.7391

Xista.7391

While it was awesome for people to work together with their realms to kill the most difficult PvE boss ever, this update frustrated a large part of the community.

I won’t go into detail on every detail about what’s wrong with this update (you can just look at the front page for that). I just want to take the time and share what I think would be best for the game/community moving forward regarding this and future updated bosses.

Why not make Tequatl instanced, a weekly (possibly daily), and scale for a squad of 30ish people. Just making the encounter instanced would resolve many of the issues that cropped up with this update.

What would this accomplish though exactly?
• No more overflows.
• No more dealing with AFKs
• No more trolls. Or if there are any, you can just replace them.
• You can do this on YOUR time. Not Tequatl’s.
• You can tune the fight even harder because premade groups are more organized than random people.
• This would make awesome guild content. Just imagine (in the future) doing all three Elder Dragon Champions with your guild. You can make an evening of it.
• Actually ensure its longevity. In a few months, most servers probably won’t be able to get 80 people to show up.
• Making this a weekly would make it rewarding. Buff ascended/pet/mat drops. I would rather spend an evening with a raid group working on this encounter than waiting in overflow for hours, get into main server, wipe on boss, wait 90 minutes, wipe again…. Etc
• You can keep the old Tequatl in the open world, on par with every other world boss.

I finally beat Tequatl today after ~20-24 hours of trying. I was overcome with joy. Joy that I don’t have a reason to come back. It’s a shame though, the fight itself is fun…. but it was just implemented horribly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No…

I know Arena Net’s heart is in the right place – making difficult content. But so much of that is artificial difficulty: lag, dying because of lag, overflows, most specs/gear are useless, afkers, trolls, spawn timer, guesting (either commanders guesting off, or people guesting in looking for a kill)

All of these are a huge barrier to fun. This fight would have so much more potential/longevity if it were instanced and tuned for a full squad. But I know the community will have none of that because they’ve either killed him already, or say “This isn’t WoW”.

I probably will not do this fight again once I get all of the achievements here. The amount of time that I’ve spent attempting him does not warrant an ascended weapon or mini pet.

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Xista.7391

Well, if this content isn’t for everyone… I guess this caters to people to that can wait all afternoon/day to get out of overflow just to get a chance to kill Tequatl which only has a small chance of dropping anything useful.

I’ve probably waited at least 20+ hours since launch in overflows just to get into my main realm. Most times I’ve gotten in during off-peak hours where we don’t have the competent crowd around anymore (IE the realm killed a few times and everyone logged off)

It’s one thing to have challenging content that brings a realm together. It’s another to implement it kitten poorly that angers a good chunk of the playerbase.

[Merged] Your opinions of the LFG tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xista.7391

Xista.7391

I’m in the Beta, but haven’t yet joined a group. Seems to function just as the devs wanted – anyone can join. It’s hilarious because I saw a group that was “Looking for more zerk warriors” fill up with necros and thieves.

As funny as it might seem at first glance to ruin speedclear groups, in my opinion it is griefing just as much as going to a fotm10 relaxed run with a zerk mindset. This has to be fixed.

The function of the new LFG tool is to find groups as fast as possible, which it seems to be doing. It’s not there to find specific comps to do dungeons. If people are looking for all zerker groups, I think they’ll have to look elsewhere to form groups.

I’m not stating this as a good/bad thing. This is just what the devs intended. I guess you could call it griefing, but it’s nothing that’s reportable. It’s just rude as I think it would be common courtesy to not join those groups.

a queue system was too much? is it still like lfg.com but in game?

Pretty much. Except you can hit join on any group and immediately be in their party.

You can also click merge to pick up others that have posted for the same dungeon. IE a group of 3 can merge with a group of 2 with 1 click.
