Beyond obviously not targeting ranger pets (wat)

And this is why people think condi engineers are spammy. Our best single target damage is IP. If you’re spamming grenades/bombs on points and it procs on a non-kill target, clone, pet, what have you…. you’re losing a lot of focused DPS.

Sure you can ignore and hope it procs on the correct target. But that’s not playing to the highest potential. It’s not that hard to understand.

Nobody does this. And if someone did, it would actually be terrible. The biggest mistake low-rated, new, and otherwise bad players make in MMOs is overcomplicating everything. As a result, they end up misusing or never using key abilities.

And that’s what separates the good engis from the bad. Proccing IP 3x over on the ranger pet is a huge loss on dmg done. And if you do, you switch to a second source of burning to get that condi up.

Keeping track of the GCD of IP and making sure it doesn’t proc on non-kill target (or worse, AI) makes it far more skill based than most any other passive.

It’s powerful. It probably warrants a tweak. But to say it’s doesn’t require thinking is plain wrong.

I want to hear what they have to say about Skyhammer and why they are basically ignoring the issue. We have a thread with over a thousand posts and not a single dev response.

This. Why is it still in soloQ? If it’s so skillful, it should be in teamQ.

My question:

Why do balance updates takes so long? There are some obvious changes you can push through in a week/month that will help sPvP without a doubt, but are pushed back into a bi-yearly balance patch with everything else.

It’s not invisible, you can clearly see the engineer using it and the white lines pointing at you

They only last a split second, very faint, and are near impossible to see in any sort of team fight. Someone is going to die if my teammates break the glass for me.

Countering the predictable stuff is easy. Stealthing behind players who break plates and baiting dodges is what kills people

Either they did not catch the sarcasm in playtesters voice, or they should really consider getting new playtesters…

No sarcasm, they were serious and Skyhammer is a great map.
In the WvW side they have a map just like Skyhammer, Edge of the Mists, a huge success just like Skyhammer.

Skyhammer just makes those skilled players shine even more because it takes a lot more skills to be great at Skyhammer because its a huge skill increase due to more utilities being used, positioning, more aspects of the game to consider than just dpsing someone to death.

About 4-5 times a game I toss Elixir S, break a plate, and toolkit pull someone to there death. Doesn’t matter who it is. I’ve killed just about every top NA player doing it.

The map should just have guard rails around the perimeter of the nodes, as well as all the glass plates removed.

These changes were not enough. Knocking/pulling and 1 shotting someone is not skillful. Something should be done if this is going to be left in a competitive queue.

I want replays more than anything else in the game.

My rig is crap. I can’t screen capture my games.

I feel one of the biggest things holding me back in progressing my mechanical skill is dissecting my gameplay second by second. I’m sure many others feel the same way.

I just got champ. engi on skyhammer. I feel so dirty. I’m not sure why. I’ve never changed my spec. I"ve only run toolkit. Though with that single toolkit, i’ve killed more people than any other weapon combined on my alts.

I queued for team queues.

Faced premades. They sucked

10 minute queues.

Was close matches.

It wasn’t much different than SoloQ. Other than the Skyhammer part. And a 7 minute wait difference.

As a ranger, or a guardian, or a thief, or… wait a second, what class doesn’t have a crowd control ability that can pull/push you off an edge in Skyhammer?

Every class has a way to knock you off. Some enjoy shorter cooldowns or more total cooldowns than others. Some have more stability available than others. Both are excellent ways to take control of the Skyhammer cannon, which is appropriately powerful and should not be nerfed in damage in any way, considering a healing guardian can easily stand in its fire.

Controlling an enemy’s physical position instead of just their ability to position themselves is a mechanic that is not unique to Guild Wars 2, but does play a larger role in this game than many others of the same genre. Skyhammer is not the only example of this, it may just be the most well-known place to exploit such mechanics to one’s obvious advantage.

This game does not need less Skyhammer. It needs more. We need more maps that give players a way to leverage specific skills or builds in unique ways to gain an advantage. The only problem with Skyhammer is that the right hit from any relevant point on the map can send you off the edge. Even B isn’t completely safe from instant death, but I think if someone causes you to fall from B to your death they deserve the credit.

Without Skyhammer, what is sPvP? Boring. Sure it’s fun when you first start playing it, and sometimes you get in a good fight but in the end the objective is exactly the same in every single sPvP map in this game: territories. There are mechanics that help you score points faster. There are mechanics that make it easier to hold territories. But ultimately, sPvP is territories.

Where is capture the flag? Hot potato? What about soccer, so we ckittene all those knockback moves on something that doesn’t whine in map chat every time it gets hit by them?

And most of all, where is death match? I don’t mean kill-as-many-as-you-can-for-points, I mean something meaningful where you pit two teams against each other and the last team with at least one member still alive wins.

So what you’re saying is PVP needs more “environment” ? sure! lets add lava to some pvp maps to pull people into that and get that silly op pve burn. How about more mobs? It’s unfair that i can only respawn off of players. while we are at it can i get nodes so i can do my daily gatherer in pvp also? and while we are at it, lets make it like pokemon, and bring in 1 hit ko attacks!

It’s taking more time for the forum moderators to move these topics than it is to remove Skyhammer from soloQ.

Just remove Skyham. Relieve the moderators of this daily Skyham forum management.

If you play the casual pvp mode… don’t take it seriously :/
If you want to play serious play teamque.
Keep that tryhard kitten out of my casual non-competitive game mode…

The casual PvP mode is hotjoin. SoloQ are for those who want a competitive environment without a team.

I agree, I don’t take it seriously. No one should. I don’t get mad if my team has 4 thieves or if they rotate poorly. That’s the random nature of soloQ and you have to accept it. Most people do.

What people don’t accept is having the most unbalanced map in the rotation. No other map gives a few specs the ability to one shot people. Keep those types of maps to hotjoin where people can’t switch to there decap profession before the game starts. At least in hotjoin you have the option to not play the map.

I’m one of the few who does enjoy Skyhammer now, after converting to a decap engi, hate me all you want.

What I’m disgusted with the map is the amount of bugs.

People surviving falling off the map, requiring the mobs to kill them.

The one shot bug (People sometimes literally die for no reason)

People not falling off when they should due to lag.

Entering/leaving the cannon platform is buggy as heck.

I can put up with the map, but not the amount of bugs.

Most people who play Skyhammer specs do put up with the map.

Would be cool if we could have a CDI on what makes a good map. I’m sure we are going to get more conquest maps sometime in GW2’s lifespan. It would be nice to communicate to devs what we want instead of them making the monstrosities that are Skyhammer, and to a lesser extent – Spirit Watch.

My #1 peeve.

When two people rotate home to kill 1 person. They down said person. 1 person caps. 1 person stomps the person off point.

I’ve only seen one person in monnnths that let the person bleed and rotate elsewhere. And it was someone from a top NA guild.

Story time.

I saw a plate break. Popped stability. SD thief came out of stealth and stole stability with larcenous strike. Then I got magnet pulled by a stealthed engi into said hole.

I totally got outplayed. Esports teamwork there.

On a serious note…. even if I don’t get knocked off during the entire match…. it’s just not a fun map to play. People run tanky decap builds. It’s near impossible to kill them. If they run around a corner, going aroudn said corner almost means certain death.

The hammer isn’t even dodgeable/blockable. Almost impossible to get out of if you’re slowed. Hits like a truck. Usually operated by a knock-back spec. Hard to actually take hammer away from them unless you play one yourself.

I used to switch to a killshot warrior to try and make the map tolerable. See how many people I can 1-shot fairly. My win % probably dropped below 25% on that map.

Then I started playing my engineer. Not a decap spec. Condi w/ toolkit. I’m pretty sure I’ve been playing in the top MMR brackets because I play against the most well known people in NA for the last few weeks. I can even pull them off w/o much trouble. It’s not a L2P issue. This map sucks.

This is more PvE than PvP. Using gravity to kill people instead of doing it yourself.

Eh, I think it has a place. The procs are interesting in themselves.

But a the bird on Pirate rune lasts…. is it 30 seconds? 60 ?

It would be more interesting if the procs duration were less, or the summons were very low HP. It would allow for counter with either dodges or killing said AI. Right now, the bird really only dies in team fights =l

He has done more work than anyone else in the community and deserves it more than anyone. At the same time he is not a top tier player like the others on the list and should not be playing in an “All Stars” competition, he is a caster not a player and we do not want the casting mess that was pax.

It looks like Dry Top is going to be expanded into a larger zone.

I wouldn’t be surprised if , say, the adventurer’s mantle would come during the tail-end of the map roll out.

I don’t think the devs would want people to grind out the only skin reward day-1 via PvP.

But then again I’m being optimistic… about PvP…. I haven’t learned my lesson yet.
