I have to disagree. If it meant more skills available to you at one time while you are playing, then yes it would be vertical, but that just isn’t the case. You get more trait choices, not more traits applied to your character.
I get what you’re saying. I really do.
But lets say I wanted to play my friend’s spec, because it’s really good. But I can’t, because I don’t have certain traits unlocked. That to me feels really bad. I think EVERYTHING in sPvP regarding skills/traits should be unlocked to everyone. Everyone should be equal in PvP.
That was one of the major selling points of PvP to me. Everything was unlocked when you entered the mists. I’m willing to grind 100s of hours towards a new rank, but it just feels like every other MMO when you have to grind to get new spells/abilities/traits… etc.

I understand this is a B2P game. I understand that the majority of the cool things you’ll get in game are probably from the cash shop. That’s fine, they’re a business. They need to make money.
But coming out with a new item that slightly better than previous cash shop items, for the same price too, is outrageous. The Royal Terrace Pass should be equal to the Airship pass, especially if it costs the same amount. They’ve done this once before with the Watch Work mining pick giving you extra materials from nodes. Unnacceptable.
Please, just add an Activity NPC to the Royal Terrace. Or take it out of the Airship. The two places should be the equal.

I hope Arena Net is going to do something to prevent whole map blobs from doing objectives.
I would like to think that they are starting to learn their lesson, example being the Orgins of Madness update. They split up the Marrionette fight into 5 lanes, and the 3-Worms into three forces (I assume, I don’t know the strat).
So who thought it was a good idea too allow your friendlies to destroy your own bridges? There is a group on my side of EotM likely doing it to grind out the achievements….

They should be unique titles. If I see an Ultimate Liberator in-game one day, I’d like to know he spends a crap ton of time in EB. Not grinding out objectives in EotM.

I think you couldn’t change it now without kittening off people who have been working very hard to stay on that leaderboard. I think there needs to be a second leaderboard with all that stuff removed.
I mean, think about it, if you’ve been doing every single day, every single day for a year just to stay on that leaderboard, how would you react if suddenly all those points were removed?
It’s not fair to people who do every daily every day for all that time. It’s also true it’s not fair to new players for that to count.
The only fair solution is to make another/different leaderboard but leave that one untouched.
This. I’ve seen people b**** about them adding more PvP dailies. Just imagine if you took away their progress on the leaderboards. You’ll kitten more people off than it will do good.
Is it working as intended? Probably not.
Would I be glad if they did? Most times, yeah.
They’ll spend more time at loading screens than waiting for a rez timer. I’ll take that over a measly 5 points.

Spent 12 hours today trying to kill it. I had to relog for the most recent to update the client. Entire map did so, because the map was bugged. I got back in… overflow. I spent 40 minutes spamming “join friend on Lornar’s Pass”. . . I finally get in and I missed the server first kill. I’ve never felt so bad the entire time playing this game. This is just Tequatl all over again.
I think F2P PvP would be awesome for the game… in the future.
Like others have said, the infrastructure just isn’t there yet. The tutorials are horrible. The convenience features that should exist, don’t. The initial experience of hotjoins is absolutely horrible (8v8 zerging). Solo/Team queues ladders mean absolutely nothing. And this is just all a drop in the bucket.
I do think if all of this existed, it would be profitable for Anet. They could easily impose a few restrictions on accounts with purchasable upgrades (character slots). In a few years, they could easily have a plethora of awesome skins/finishers on the gem store. Moba games do just fine w/ aesthetic purchases, i’m sure Gw2 can do the same.
Someone remind me again why these mechanically difficult bosses aren’t instanced? Especially the worm… that’s only going to be completed by guilds on overflows / huge servers only on reset in a few weeks. I’d much rather take 20-25 guildees and attempt these bosses for a night.
So. If you want to play a certain spec that requires one of the unlockable stat combos… you’ll have to grind for it?
This is exactly opposite of their design philosophy. Everything should be on same level in sPvP.

So your idea is a pimped out home instance is a place where you have to go out of your way to mine 3 nodes once a day?
The home instance has 5 mine-able nodes and a skill point, all of which has been added less than a year. In a couple years, there could a great deal that’s added to your home instance.

In the human home, they’re placed maybe 50 yards away from the quartz/candy corn. On a sidewalk….. really? A sidewalk.

This doesn’t make sense. Why would I want to pay (speculating here) for a monthly subscription to get discounts on gem store items. Sounds like they’re trying to make us double dip with our wallets.
If I had to guess, it’s a loyalty program to those who buy gems every month. 20 consecutive months of gem purchases yields higher/more rewards than say, 5 months. If that’s the case, then I’m all for it. I usually limit myself to 10 bucks/month anyways.

Anet has really lost its mojo. The pacing of the LS is off and even the timing is off. What happened to the quality studio that just got it?

I too had this bug.
First time was a few days ago when I was trying to roll for lvl 1 underwater fractal. I tabbed out during the loading screen, and I got the Ascalon fractal. I got the daily achievement then.
Today I tried to repeat it. I started a fractal, during the loading screen i tabbed out, then when I tabbed back I got the underwater fractal and the daily achievement.
Does clicking on the royal pass object waypoint you to the royal terrace? I believe the temporary one did that from what I read about it but I never had one. In the description it just says “provides access”. It would be a nice additional feature to save that 10 times a day wp cost to la.

I find it funny how irate some of the achievement point hunters have become on the forums. Some of them have threatened to quit the game over the changes.
I mean, I get it, you guys like to hunt AP and compete on leaderboards. But do you really enjoy playing the game? Do you like doing every random thing the dailies tell you to do?
I deleted a low level character that had several gem store items on him by accident. Is there anyway for a character restore, item restore, or gem refund too happen?
Yeah I went from rank 1000 > 700 in a night. Then the next night 700 > 300.
I am probably horrible at PvP. All I have played is a guardian bunker and just camped mid while dodge-rolling and praying not to die.
If i actually played a DPS class, I’d get my (&(& handed to me.
A lot of people are misunderstanding what is happening. People who have earned their rank emotes and finishers will get to keep them as they are.
If I understand what people are saying, and I may be wrong, many people are treating ranks as more of a lifetime achievement. That is certainly something to consider in regards to the future reward system replacing them.
It’s a lifetime achievement for me, yes. I see myself steadily earning rank over the next few years (if I’m still playing). It feels good to have a goal in sPvP. The only thing that is off-putting is how back-loaded the 70-80 grind is.
I would be very disappointed if rank were to disapear.
I recently made the decision to stop achievement grinding. I did every single LS achievement and every daily achievement since the rewards were first introduced.
I got burned out.
Now I’m just doing enough to get my laurel, and the meta done for LS. With daily achievements counting towards the LS meta, they’re easily obtained now. I’m not even going for the fractal meta, because…. bloodstone bricks, really?
Right now I"m just focused on some long-term goals. Getting 150 tourney wins. Raising fractal level and using the tokens to buy ascended for alts. Doing more WvW with alts in anticipation of account bound exp. Making ~5g a day to save up for one of the new legendaries (or ascended armor).

the gold earned from participation in casual sPvP and competitive sPvP must be very significantly more than earning gold in casual PvE / WvW or else PvE / WvW players will not bother to check out sPvP at all.the sPvP player population will remain low.
top competitive sPvP players need to control the gold economy via their sPvP skills, not the gold farmers in PvE.
I would like to see gold only in Team Queue and Solo Queues. Having it in hotjoins could just backfire making it a toxic place to be. People already AFK if they’re losing, and jump out into spectator mode to force auto-balance. If anything, it would have to be a very low amount in hot joins. Probably less than ~5 silver.
1. Keep the ranks and finishers as is. I casually play sPvP (usually just get the daily done via Solo Qs) and I’m not even rank 30 yet. I was looking forward to achieving rank 40-50 in another years time because I’m starting to warm up to PvP. Possibly reduce total rank points needed to get to 80 if it’s an easy fix.
2. Just using gold as a currency sounds awful. Keep glory in the game, and introduce your new rewards that cost glory + gold. When glory goes away, will Tomes just cost gold then? It’ll feel awful because this will be a tasty gold sink for all of the PvE champion farmers.
3. Keep PvE skins out of PvP. I can farm up a full set of Citadel of Flame gear in like a week. It takes months of constant PvP-ing to get to rank 50. See the problem here? If anything, allow PvP-ers to transfer skins to PvE. They have put in way more hours to get skins than any PvE player.
4. Allow us to use Living Story skins in both PvE and PvP. I don’t want to make the choice of stashing a skin in my bank, thinking i may use it in the future, or having it be unlimited use in sPvP. If anything, achievement skins should be added to the achievement panel like the Zenyth weapons. Or…. allow us to get living story achievement skins in PvP somehow. X tokens from reward chests = LS skin.
5. If you are going to remove ranks, maybe make 8 different leagues (if there are enough players). Rabbit -> Dragon. If you’re in that league, you’ll have access to the finishers.
6. (Wishful Thinking) I’ve always wanted to change how my character looks during combat. Having a way/reward that changed the dodge animation, or color of spell effects would be awesome. If you make it a reward based on skill, seeing a guardian come up to you with greatsword whirling red bolts would be epic.

In hopes that the story will lead to something meaningful.
So far, I’ve been pretty disappointed.
The plot of the living story is very, very slow.
It’s been like 3/4 of a year since Flame/Frost where we first started seeing plot directly related to Scarlett.
And since then, all the story has done is add several more pairings of unlikely groups. We’ve known who Scarlett is since summer and still don’t know what she’s doing or why.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m genuinely interested in this overall story. But if it takes a year to tell, then I have to question why I’m investing my time into it. Every release I’m hoping for some significant plot advancement. We really haven’t gotten that since the Jubilee.
