I don’t want the END of PU. But I want other playable options too. Not only oneshot nuke mesmers or condi mesmers. How about a supportive cele mesmer? If that’d work GOOD, that’d be great.

I mean that it’s good to have counterplay to a skill itself, but this should be achieved by using your own skills or by movement or hiding / evading. But it’s unnecessary to be able to destroy the rift. There is already counterplay to the whole situation aswell a drawback.

The mesmer will be able to change the situation during those 1-4 sec, but after this time you will exactly know where he will be and the counterplay is already the adventage of positioning AFTER the rift.

TL;DR: I understand if ppl say “the rift should be destroyable, because it’s a strong skill”, but it’s not required to be able to have counterplay. It just makes it much easier.

Can you destroy a wall of reflection in melee? Or a banner? Or a shadow refugee? The examples can become very absurd because it’s not how we know it to be, but if a guardian wall would always have been targetable, you would call me insane for saying that THAT would be unnecessary too, wouldn’t you?

Neither blur, nor invulnerability does affect people in downed state.

I like to have different skills in my bar in pvp than blink, decoy and portal for once and this skill might have a chance! The end of PU maybe? Or maybe gasp BUILD DIVERSITY!!! :O

Feedback duration too short (bug)

Timing with my “head” was just where I started to notice it. I put a skill on CD and checked when the CD was at 6 (8) sec and then used feedback, there was always 1 sec left when it expired. When the number 7 pops up it means 7,99 and that’s when I used feedback.

Anyway, just do it yourself ingame and you’ll see. points at dummies at silverwastes

What prevents a phantasm to have an auto attack like the elementalist on staff, fire? Correct – nothing.

That’s what I imagine to be an aoe ranged phantasm, not some sort of chaos storm spamming wizz bizz or suicide bombing melee weirdo :P

Maybe overreacted a bit with the opening comment, but my opinion stays the same: I only see the pve aoe scenario we all already know with phantasms. As for pvp, it’s ok to have a counterplay, but it’s also just unnecessary…

It was originally intended to be targetable, yes, even tough, it was never in the betas, for 3 betas dude… 3 …

I wonder how much “HP” or hits this rift will have. I can only imagine all the fails that will happen just because some mapwide aoe is gonna wreck it immediately after being cast …

About that highly praised and necessary counterbalance – as if there weren’t other mechanics and skills that are extremly strong without enough or any counters… Sure we have to start somewhere but to balance pvp and pve they will first have to finally split those game modes completly.

These changes are just wonderful!

  • Illusionary Avenger: Increased damage of this phantasm by 20%. Fixed a bug which prevented this skill from displaying the benefit from Empowered Illusions. Increased alacrity given to 2 seconds per hit. This phantasm no longer shoots a bouncing projectile but instead initiates a melee attack that slows enemies and gives alacrity to allies within a 240 radius around the target. Removed old phantasm description.

I see great things happen to the torch phantasm, aswell to the idisenchanter. Maybe they will grant those some aoe’s too? Would you like that???

I’d like to see the image (torch phantasm) to become a 5 target aoe (240ø) dmg phantasm. Torch would become the aoe offhand, together with an already aoe personal skill. Granting aoe fury and average dmg would make it a great party phantasm, I’d like to have!

About the idisenchanter, it’d be a great “nullfield” attacker. Removing 2 boons from enemies and 2 conditions from allies with a 5 target aoe (240ø) + giving him the same damage as the torch phantasm is what I wish for this guy.

  • Tides of Time: This skill now attempts to bounce back if it hits a wall. Fixed a bug where the time freeze caused by this skill would not show a stun icon in the status bar.

This change doesn’t affect us any further, but I can imagine that same quality of life changes will be applied to engineer throw wrench (toolbelt of toolkit), warrior bladetrail (gs 4#), ranger path of scars (axe 4#), etc.

  • Continuum Split – Fixed a bug which caused the Continuum Rift to take no damage from attacks.

NO!!! Nonononononono!!! You do NOT disguise this change as a bug!

There were hundreds of comments here in the forums why it was a terrible idea to let it be targetable! You get combobreaked and total garbage results just because the rift dies to random aoes! There were great positive feedbacks after noticing that you changed it to take no dmg at all.

The skill is NOT overpowered just because it will always work like the caster wants. The counterplay comes from the skills used DURING the duration. Do not ruin the best part of the Chronomancer now!

Don’t do it again! Don’t state something great as a bug and change it to garbage tier again, like you did with the mantras!

Strength or Scholar runes for power reaper?

I’m for scholar since reaper can invest in vita instead of prec. Also I beleve aslong as your HP are over 90%, your RS can have like 10% HP and you still get the bonus. Noone has it easier than the Necro to keep the scholar bonus.

Feedback duration too short (bug)

Apparently the skill “Feedback” has a lower duration than the tooltip says, wich should be 6 seconds, or 8 seconds if traited.

After taking the time serval times, traited and untraited, I noticed that the duration is roughly 1 second shorter than intended. The actual duration is therefore 5 (traited 7) sec, wich is a 17% or 12.5% shorter duration than intended.

I noticed it by counting the time in my head just for fun and it somehow annoys me that our reflection skill has such a short duration and then even shorter than intended. Would like to see this fixed in the next half year.

I could also be completly wrong if the animation just wears off and still reflects for 1 more sec, didn’t check that one.

Oh about that – so I’m not crazy – 1320 heal was the blast heal base right!? Oh my I thought I was going nuts … Somehow you have some hidden healing power since the 23th patch. You will always heal with about 1360, even if you have 0 healing power and no traits :< I tested it on many chars and the tooltip just isn’t what it actually is and I doubt any wvw bonuses add healing power :< Am I missing something? xD

Well I give you some more:

water fields:

  • healing turret overcharge
  • healing turret toolbelt (only a short one)
  • mortar 5#

blast finishers:

  • any turret (at YOUR location) when you blow them up
  • thumper turret overcharge and then detonate causes 2 blast finishers if the turret couldn’t perform it’s overcharge attack before exploding – one at your location and one at the turrets
  • thumper turret toolbelt
  • bomb kit toolbelt
  • mortar kit toolbelt (traited 2x)
  • shield #4 2nd activation
  • elixier gun #4
  • flame thrower #2 2nd activation or max range
  • mine
  • rocket boots
  • supply crate
  • booby trap (downed #3)
  • dodge bomb (if traited, but noone does this so … :P)

Basicly any blast finisher + any water field is a healing combo. For instance orbital strike and the mortar water field Are excellent together! But there are so many different options, too many to write them all down. Just check for a water field and blast finishers for aoe heal and leaps for ego heal.

PvP is a completly different story and every single shatter has a reason to be used.

For PvE tough, the Mesmer should not be completly forced to spam F1-F4, nor should a Mesmer be forced to never touch the shatter skills in order to have an acceptable dps.
That’s why it’s not good to have traits encouraging the only pressing of the shatter buttons. Traits should encourage shatter skills by buffing the overall result.

Scepter Stealth Problem

That’s not a solution, that’s rather how to “fix” a bad mechanic. I often had the problem that my scepter aa revealed me because it’s so slow and I stealthed while the attack is in mid air.

with chrono when using alarcity you are encouraged by the trait flow of time to constantly cycle your shatter skills as well as any wells you have due to the trait alls well that ends well

with out chrono or alarcity your are encouraged to keep your phantasms up as long as possible in pve

This sums it up perfectly.

Somone overestimates alacrity a bit :P “Increases recharge ratio by 66%” isn’t the same as “Reducing recharge by 66%”. You can’t just reduce 16s by 66% and say it’s 5.3 sec That’d be totally op^^. You have to divide 16s by 1.66. Every 1s with alacrity passes 1.66s. This means the berserker would still have 9.64s cd.

During that time he’d attack multiple times ofc. This said, the problem is, it won’t be good dps wise if one does shatter 3 phantasms in order to get alacrity to resummon them. The time you require to resummon 2 or 3 phantasms could be used to just use your sword auto attack and you’d outdps your phantasms for a long period of time. The problem now is, that this period of time doesn’t exist, because you SHATTER your phantasms again right away, since you keep your shatter skills on CD to get alacrity in order to be able to spam your wells to provide damage and quickness or other effects or to be able to have a time warp every 54 seconds.

On 2nd thoughts I’d change the trait that grants alacrity on shatter to alacrity on illusion summon. Each time you summon an illusion (including traits ofc) you’ll get alacrity. This would still allow us to use phantams, with chrono phantasma even to shatter them once and it would remove the urge to press F1-F4 constantly.

I really hope someone from ANet reads this … sigh but I doubt they will do major changes anymore. Sadly … This trait is a huge bummer imo.

I still would like the possibility to press F1 twice – first time all clones run to the target – for 3 sec I can activate it again for also sending the phants to death. But yea that would be complicated (but efficient) so it will get hated anyway

I’m not into having my phantasms to do all the work, but it annoys me that as a chronomancer having phantasms is inefficient for the group. The cast time is too long and not rewarding enough if you shatter every 8 sec at least once.

I don’t like a 100% phantasm gameplay, I never did. But I hate a 0% phantasm gameplay even more, that’s my point. What I want is a efficient gameplay that has some phantasm balance, that’s all

Chrono feels like it's all about spamming :/

Somehow I think the best support for the party is to have a great dmg and quickness well uptime. What do we do to achieve it? Having alacrity. How do we get it? F1, F2, F3, F4, well 1, well 2, well 3, well 4, F1, F2, etc…

I fell like I only want to provide quickness, alacrity and dmg with my wells as a chrono. So I want to have perma alacrity to keep this up. The results are simple: I have no Illusions anymore. No phantasms since I keep spamming F1-F4. I even should trait for shatter skills to stack vuln and boonstrip etc while spamming them :|

What I mean is it feels much less complicated to play chrono in PvE than to play Mesmer. Mesmer had so much to do, Chrono seems just about spamming wells.


I think the evil source of this behavor is the trait that grants us alacrity on shatter. This needs a change if you ask me:

right now you get alacrity for pressing F1-F5. I suggest to remove the persona affection of this trait and instead give 0.5 sec per clone and 1 sec per phantasm you shatter. This way you still can or rather should keep up your clones / phantasms. Just a short thought.

What do you think? Do you feel annoyed by the “to play” aspect of the chrono too?

Agreed, this would indeed be a much better well this way. I also think the chill is useless in any way since everyone has enough time to leave this well before bad things happen. Even though not made for damage, damage is alwasy important.
I’d also like to see the CD lowered since the effect is really barely ok for a 45 sec CD skill…

Well of Precognition:
I have to disagree on this one. One needs the unblockable mode right away, so I think this skill is “ok” the way it is. The blur would also be needed right away but I think this would make it op. So I think why not combine it with the current well of eternity effect to buff it a bit? Yes, give it also vigor on pulse, that’s all this skill needs.

Well of Eternity:
Aaaand I also agree with you on this one. Shift vigor to Precognition and give is condi cleanses will make this skill perfect. But maybe increase the cd to 25 then maybe.

Overall great ideas.

Gravity Well Feelings

For PvE:

  • damage is ok
  • the pull is too fast to trigger multiple power blocks – unfortunately
  • the cd is way too long since chrono users have F5 = time warp gets 90 sec aswell
  • time warp does more for the team than this well does
    Overall an ok skill, but time warp will always be better.

For PvP:

  • forces the enemy to use stunbreaker or stability and dodge
  • rather small aoe wich you can leave pretty fast – not so good for zoning
  • long cd
  • instant stomp interrupt
    Overall again “ok”, but I think mass invis is probably still better for the team and survival (safe heal) etc.

I suggest a few adjustions for Gravity Well:

  • increase the radius from 240 to 360 like time warp
  • increase the duration from 3sec to 6sec
  • keep the same amount of pulses
  • lower the CD to something between 60 and 90

For PvP this way it gets a large zoning capacity and combined with the longer duration a “danger zone” for enemies, just like time warp. It also gets fairer for enemies since they can dodge between ticks to evade the massive cc.

For PvE the lower CD will make it a viable option instead of TW before a bossfight. It will also still be lower than chrono TW. The big aoe pull will allow a good stacking of pve mobs where the 240 radius just is not enough. The delayed pull will also allow this skill to trigger power block multiple times wich gives it more damage + weakness procs.


The current gravity well is just not strong enought to be used, sry

Precognition and Recall are both still extremly underwhelming. Gravity is barely ok but still not really worth due the too long CD. The rest is fine.

… because turning every single cc into the same result + giving this breakbar to normal trash mobs (yea there are some) will completly ruin the game for any not pure dps class. If you can’t pull or stun enemies that are trash mobs, the game is gonna die, if you can’t do this to bosses – ok – but the most fun thing for any cc class is TO INTERRUPT an important skill of a boss! Don’t take away one of the best mechanics ingame. Don’t ruin the game with the current break bar! Think over it again, defiance sux yea, but the current breakbar is even worse …

Whats the new dungeon meta?

And condition grenadeer now does more dps than zerker in all fight lasting at least ~14secs (which in most pugs means every fight^^). But don’t try to tell that the players still stuck in 2012’s meta (again nearly all of them^^) :-D

And for pugs maybe even a FT build is better since they provide 0 might :P
The condi engi has to be treated with caution. One missing key skill and you’re way behind the zerker. Also there is no option of swapping skills according to the situation and no wide aoe dps. I love condi engi, but keep remembering about where it is useful and where it isn’t (yet mostly a fractal issue).

Making shield useful in PvE.

Even if you don’t consider the phantasm, the chronomancer’s shield 5 skill alone has higher damage output than the shield skills of any other profession. In general shields aren’t intended to be high DPS weapons. If the utility of the skills is lacking, that’s an area that can be tuned, but we don’t have any plans to really increase the damage that much.

My thoughts exactly! Especially when you combine shield 5# with Power Block, you get quite a nice amount of direct damage, vuln stacks, stun, quickness and therefore also passive damage.

I really really like the design of the mesmer to deal passive damage instead of boosting his own numbers into the sky. Everything is fine with chrono so far, just don’t ruin it with senseless nerfs

Power vs Crit?

Because increasing your power by 250 from 1000 is +25% dmg, but with zerker you’ll have like 2500 power so it’s only 10%. Now if you are buffed correctly in a pt you’re about to have 3500 power where those 250 from bloodlust will give you 7%.
