no – we focus on our illusions, it’s the way it is. we have to improve the AI part of the mesemer – like with distortion for illusions.
I like the idea of a weapon swap, however since pistol AA sux so bad as Zerk, we need a mace as a weapon wich would just be like the tool kit and then you are where you were at the beginning.
Pretty much this yes. Mork said most of the things. Grenades and Bombs are still the best option, by far. There is the possibility to go for a SD build with the rifle, but you will just be weaker than an explosive engineer. Not useless, but like a full Zerk Necro.

Worthless imo. I’d say the retaliation trait should be swapped with a distortion for 3 sec after summon. This is actually what we need, for WvW and PvE AoEs.
I can say that it was only mentioned to also work with phantasms and illusions, yet it works also with minipets so – yea, pretty sure it gets fixed “soon TM”.
Actually for Engi only Strength is really good. Pack, Scholar, Ranger, Ruby, all the same. Fire for really poor guys,. I’d say Fire into Strength. Or Ruby into Strength.
Flame jet deals already too much damage, sure noone asks for a buff. And since every normal person uses the AED, goggles and rocket tower, they surely are balanced right now.

If you’re gonna buy some expensive runes, go for strength. Scholar are an illusion, especially on engineer since you are most of the time the first priority target for the AI. Also you are a might stacker – 29 seconds instead of 20 seconds might make a huge difference for the pt.
Grenade AA? Not gonna happen – it would just be silly and also be a nerf.
Support in PvE = moar damageee!!! We are anyway able to do everythinng else than damage … AND DAMAGE >:D
Hi! Every skill in GW2 scales with something. There is NO base damage in GW2 on power based skills. The damage you see already is the scaling of your power.
As for a build – the simply best pve build nowdays is 6/6/0/X/X like already mentioned. 0/2/0 for vigor and 0/0/2 for speedy kits.
GS is dungeon viable, if you use it to start the fight against multiple enemies → 2, 4, 4, 3, 2 → swap to sword until fight ends. It also grants serious might stacks wich are good for rune of strength and signet of inspiration. However this is for pugs only. In organized groups don’t use a GS in general.
For open world, battle, strength, bloodlust. Those are great sigils.
I do not recommend fire nor air. The damage spike is laughtable low since they patched them to be unable to crit. Might and power from bloodlust however will greatly increase your damage and the damage of your phantasms aswell.
Force is a bad desicion too. 5% damage is like nothing on the weak attacks of the GS. You pick the GS for the phantasm, not for it’s dps.
Just spawn the clone at the enemy in first place? Maybe op.
Btw even a projectile can be homing and get a “unblockable” tag, like GS#2. Sword#3 is blocked too by anything if there is no line of sight, so there is no difference between now and a projectile.

I’m crying because of 2 reasons:
Well after 5,022 hours on ranger and this is all ranger gets? is the buffs to the same kitten weapons they have been buffing for a about a year. No love to traps? no love to shortbow? No active stability that isnt on a huge recharge? Guess its time to hang up this silly game
Don’t expect everything at once – you need to buff part by part, so players really play it and test it out. If you buff everything at once they simply skip to the “best” until they got bored and start on different things and realize that other builds are great too. So …. it’s better like this.
Does anyone think the changes to FT change anything for the pve/fractal grenade/bomb/vuln stack meta?
Greanades still stack better vuln. But I guess the FT deals now a closer dps to the bombs. However the FT hits only 3 targets and brings less utility. I guess the change will make it viable and kinda destroy a “META” builds. Maybe it’s great with SD? I don’t know, but I beleve it’s great change and a good day for build diversity.
I’ve played Mesmer since release of the game for over 2.5k hours now and this guide is kitten good and worth reading for every Mesmer out there. It does not hate on any weapons and skills, just discripe their strengths and weaknesses. In general a great work!
I only want to add that instead of 6/4/0/4/0 you should go 5/4/0/5/0 if you have less than 2 mantras in your bar. Everything else – perfect guide!
Leveling a mesmer isn’t as terrible as you all make it up here. I pretty much beleve like 95% of you never ever leveled a mesmer up these days, yet you guys are just repeating what you heared in the forums …
Mesmers are fine to level, they depend on their traits, that’s true, but they are still not that pain in the “poophole” to level.

They fixed it with blink so I think they know the issue and are about to fix the wallstacking FGS too. However I beleve that it’s hard to find a fix wich makes it not completly useless. Its the same as the warrior GS whirl or the mesmer iZerker. They need a cap how many hits they can take max.

So you say the damage numbers aren’t displayed? I have the same issue in dry top against the giant with my mesmer GS auto attack sometimes. I checked the damage log and it’s just a visual bug, you still deal damage, don’t worry.
Warden, Staff, Sword 3. Everything else is ok imo. Focus reflection works fine, yet ppl don’t know how it works on curtain…
Aegis upon actiavtion – fixed …
Even Dulfy sais it is bugged since the “fix” wich should prevent you to get teh achievment when you ress them.
I tried it 6 times yesterday, I allways missed a little part but the last 2 times I was 100% sure I did everything right! I even checked the whole map afterwards, NO corpses, nothing. All 7 (if solo, more when you group up!) npc’s were saved.
I don’t know about you but sometimes there are no mobs at the npcs. I just meet them and tell them to leave. I heared that you have to kill the mobs first, but then … they don’t spawn >_> And in the end they spawn infinitly again and again and again …
It’s bugged, 100%! I want an answer from ANet, I can’t get the achievment right now >_>
It hasn’t been changed and it does NOT improve kits damage.
I don’t like EG in dungeons. It is great for pvp or wvw, but otherwise… meh. #2 usually hits the boss once and then bounces around in the stack and gives useless swiftness. #3 gives 5 vuln-stacks, but the long channel time makes it inferior to simply spamming nades auto during that time. #4 is a nice short burst, but its channel time and the potential to break the stack unjustifies it. #5 CAN be a live-saver but when you meet a situation where it could be, it’s mostly not.
Taking elixir U instead for dungeons just feels natural, especially since its “situational” for almost all encounters you can think of.
This post reads like the pure essence of hating the EG or simple never used it or just don’t understand it.
2 is rarely good, yet at places where you face sometimes an enemy alone it’s a good damage spike. But in general useless.
3 is a condi cleanse. You are not supposed to attack the enemy with it, rather using it on your alles to cure them from like mai thrins 10 stacks of bleeding or the surely coming up mortem torment stackers etc. There are enough places where conditions bother you and your allies, especially guards, eles and thiefs suffer from even a few stacks of damaging conditions.
4 is a combo finisher and suposed to use when there is a fire field, likely your own one. As already mentioned just cancel the jump. The skill hits for up to 25k full buffed 5 enemies and stacks vulnerability well too.
5 initial heal can still become quite handy, especially in fotm at dangerious enemies like the grawlboss.
2 reflects with such a high cd ARE just a few reflects. compare it with the mesmer or guard, we lack there. shield is a must in dungeons, there is almost no big adventage to take the rifle over the shield in a dungeon. pistol 3 is awesome too, however bomb1 is almost the same dmg than the rifle burst, also blunderbuss only hits 3 targets afaik.
i wouldn’t suggest to use elixier U mainly, it’s more a situational pick. elixier gun offers more, especially a stunbreak and blast finisher, not to forget the condi cleanse. or simply mine for dmg, vuln stacks and finisher.
Yea ofc and I know it. However it might be confusing for new players since they keep in mind “if i use my ascended rifle, my kits become stronger” or something like that. Same goes for sigils while using a certain weapon.
The point is, it increases rifle skills and not skills while using a rifle.
I don’t know about you guys but I think the “high risk high reward” is pretty ok at the engi. The damage we deal is great, nothing like a necro or mesmer, we have like the best auto attack ingame (bomb / grenade). It’s not the damage wich is rewarding us for playing piano, it’s the flexibility that we are able to do what every class can do too, like condi cleanse, reflect, stack might, stack vuln, stack stealth. We only lack in stability and that we only have a few reflecion skills, however if I had to choose one class for the whole game to play, it’s the engineer. If you say “other classes are better at X or Y” it’s just means they are easier to play (except for the flaws i mentioned) or about FGS.

Well it may be confusing since equiping an ascended rifle / pistol WILL increase kit’s damage by 5%.
when they do you can too, in dangerzones it’s good too, and if you do your buffcombo, just do it a bit aside or enter the fire fields first.
Tested by myself – no it doesn’t. You can also check the damage at the tooltip with and without trait. The rifle skills change, yet any kit won’t.
Reminds me of the iDuellist of the mesmer wich does the same. I don’t think it’s a very hard exploit, wouldn’t even call it an exploit. But definitly worth taking a look at.
Depens on the shield, race aswell armor. Lionguards shield for example is terrible.
It has 3 useful skills, 4 at single target dps, but k. If you don’t use the EG, you don’t know how great the EG is and therefore you hate it. No proper engi denies the EG.
Also SD builds are semigood, especially in fotm and dungeons. They are ok in open world though.
Put your cursor in the middle of the screen, now a few cm to the top and right click, and keep pushed. Now your targeting is locked and you will be moving with wasd and turn around with the mouse. That’s how I do it.
Clicking only once to attack can be helpful if you don’t wanna doubleclick, I personally don’t like it since I only would use it on engi.
PvE or WvW or PvP? I guess if someone is making a dps thread it’s all about PvE and yea, I pretty much beleve we are top tier. Why? Well – WE are the reason the party has 25 stacks vulnerability ON EVERY enemy. Even if it’s a single one, it’s obviously a boss fight where vuln stacks run out faster and we shine aswell. The damage dealt by the whole team wich is increased by our vulnerability is OUR dps. Also the damage dealt by bomb 1 is only a bit weaker than 100b, however at even 4 and especially 5 enemies our damage is higher than everyone. Only FGS can outdamage us then. But well, I probably gotta be quiet otherwise anet pulls out the Nerf-Guns …
Grenades are pretty weak when untraited. Means – there is a trait wich grants you 300 range and 1 grenade for grenade skills, wich is 50% more damage. Without it, the damage is semigood. As insanemaniac said: Bombs are the way to go when leveling.
About the toolbelt, it’s simle. F1 resembels the healing skill, F2-F4 the utilities. So each skill you got has in fact 2 skills. You won’t see them when unlocking them sadly, only when you equip them. Like elixier R wich recovers your stamina, doesn’t sound that awesome, yet it’s toolbelt revives allies and npcs.
In the end you will have all the skills and just check the toolbelts too

The only difference are the traits and the rifle. You allways want to go for 6/6/0/X/X as a good engineer. There is no doubt about it.
The skills I use are for general purpose. Swap the least useful for other stuff if you have to. Like at the harpy fractale I swap the elixier gun with elixier U, so I’ve got a reflection wall + quickness (mainly for the reflection wall). Situational useful skills are:
And my decision about the bufffood: Simple. Precision is better than power on the engineer cause of vulnerability on crit and condition duration is by far better than anything else. Sure it gives condition damage but the 40% condition duration deals way more damage with vulnerablity and your team damage than even 200 power for yourself. So … it’s important that you can keep up 25 stacks on everything, especially champions+ wich have resistance to vuln dura. Passive damage op <3. Those are the cheapest and best bufffoods for an engi. There is also new food with 40% condi dura and 70 power, however it costs about 30 silver each compared to 2 siilver. Do the math .P

In PvP and WvW it’s a great condition tool, aswell grants you good cc and utility. In PvE it has some good uses like against Mye Trin or however she is called (fractale aetherblade endboss). It’s situational but useful.
