Speedy kits, forget about power shoes. You got kits, no cd, 10 sec speedbuff, take it – it’s free.

Engineer meta is 6/6/0/0/2 or sometimes 6/6/0/2/0 with Grenades/Flamethrower/Elixier Gun in short combats and Bombs instead of Flamethrower for longer lasting fights. It also depends on allies – if you got more eles who can spam fire fields, the Flamethrower is better again, yet if enemies spread your bomb dps is bigger than the grenade ones. And yes there are parts in the game where mobs simply won’t stack that good.
There are also plenty of skills you should use and swap. But yea the PvE meta: Gren/FT/EG.
To answer your main question – the FT damage only hits 3 enemies with it’s aa while explosives hit 5 and also deal more damage even vs 3 targets. However aslong as you don’t care about 100% efficiency and prefer more fun, it’s not totally wrong to use a FT as damage source. It may even become more handy combined with the bombs to proc more might stacks for allies instead of causing vuln with nades. Try something.
Instead of telling you the same stuff again – I can totally confirm everything they already said. The only thing they didn’t mention is that engineers are definitly the hardest class to play properly. This is mainly because you will use combinations of skills of different kits. It requires practice and knowledge, but it’s totally worth it.
I have to say that the only good Ele elite is the water elemental with his 6k heal. Everything else is rather useless. But he’s not alone friends, Necro has no good elite too, just the golem wich often dies in stupid ways. Lich form deals less damage than dagger auto attack. And engineer only has the supply crate wich is semi good too.
To be honest for PvE there are only a few good elites: Time Warp, Battle Standard and Daggerstorm (maybe thief buddies too).
I’ve never seen the water elemental heal for that high, are you in full healing power gear? It’s far less. for me.
The tooltip is wrong and no I’m full zerk. 6636 with 0 HP – it’s extremly much. Almost no cd. Try it at a 80 spot ^^ awesome

All we need is a grenade / bomb in our hands – fixed. No belt, plz – it just ruines the outfit in another way – also think about the clipping issues – will the belt override the mantle or what

Just buff retaliation a bit more and give it a CD of 1 sec. This would also be very good for confusion to make it fair for fast attacks and balance it a bit. Also a huge buff for pve where it sux.

I didn’t attack you, you just felt that way … There is no argument behind facts that you can test and since there is no official statement from ANet you don’t know if it’s really a bug. Also just because it would be a bug doesn’t mean you could ignore this fact and tell somone “no it doesnt work”. It’s like with EG #5, when you say “it’s not mentioned that it cleanse conditions – I better tell anyone that it doesn’t”.

You just talk yet haven’t tested right? Go ingame and let a smoke bomb explode near a lv1 moa and see the vulnerability go up to 5 stacks. Then come back and say “I’m sorry”
Traits which proc on critical (and sigils) will proc when bomb explosions go off, possibly inducing multiple procs? (99% sure on this as I’ve experimented a bit, but if there are interesting factoids that would be great to know).
Yes bombs can proc, and multiple times, ICD not withstanding. As well, pulses of fire bomb, smoke bomb, and glue bomb, can proc as well. They cannot proc crit procs, but they can proc “on hit” sigils and runes as well as traits such as steel packed powder.
Pulses of fire bomb can pro on hit aswell on crit stuff, since it really deals damage with every pulse and not just applies burn.
Pulses of smoke bomb can proc on hit effects of “explosions cause vulnerability”, yet it never proced any on hit sigil at my testings.
Pulses of glue bomb can’t proc nothing.

I thought it affects single chains aswell the aa – well that explains a lot. So skills without cd won’t be affected? u.u lame

Hey, I just tested serval times the usage of power block to shut down those mordrem trashers:

But it just doesn’t work. I tried it with interrupting them during the windup and i tried it during the channeled skill. They just keep going like I wouldn’t have this trait even equipped.
So I’m guessing those mobs have like 5 times the same skill in their skillbar? I even tested it by interrupting the trasher 5 times in a row but this takes about 10 sec and so … yea you get the point.
Any statement ANet? Intended? Bug?
EDIT: It also doesn’t work with the Teragriffin ranged attacks… Yet it works with Mender heals.
EDIT 2: It appears that it works against the charging and leaping Teragriffins but not against the ranged fighters.

Axe only if ranged is needed. Best dps. Don’t use life blast, dps loss.

Underwater the bomb auto attack is BY FAR the strongest, and also the strongest ingame. The windup time is very short under water, you feel like having quickness all the time. It’s insane, really. Grenades are only your ranged auto attack, since the harpoon gun aa almost heals your enemy … u.u But still, skill 3 (and 4 for single target) of the harpoon gun are both extremly strong. Especially 3 in melee, gosh, crits for like 15k sometimes.
You’re thinking of Harpoon Gun 2, not 3. But yeah, it is awesome.

I support the grenade range nerf when they deal 10 times the damage, when all explosives cribble, may blind, and permanently bleed enemies. Some may inflict perma burn too. And then the mortar gets 5k range and oneshots everything.
Interrupt, reflect, block, invuln, stay behind something, get out of range – pick one ^^
I’m not that expirienced in playing ele, but … isn’t the dps loss of an ele for picking S/F, S/D, D/D, D/F, w/e for stacking might instead of picking a staff much higher than for any other class that cloud stack might? Like warrior, guard or engi? They all can stack might and I’m pretty sure nothing beats the fire attunement of the ele staff in dps.

Grenades and bombs aswell the toolkit can be visible in the hands of the user. EG, FT are both guns and very visible. Why hobosacks? Option to disable would be enough.
Actually like many skills have been changed (Chaos Armor, some auras, etc) retaliation and maybe confusion too, should only proc once every 0.5 sec, maybe buff it then. So in PvP those buffs will be still good but not devastating for multi attacks wich seems a bit op. Also in PvE where retaliation and confusion both are underpowered, they both would be worth more.
Why would you do that? Just take the bombkit so you have no CD on your utility slot o.O
Kit, no auto attack, make it very strong attacks with 20-90 cd on each skill. Kit itself has no cd. Solve.
I love the predator on my engi – but I’d say keep the rifle you have for unique design!
Pretty much what Esmee said. Overall with condition damage your dps will get lower than focusing totally on power precision and ferocity. The main reason to go on condition damage is because you can ignore power and focus on stats like toughness or vitality or precision if you have many on crit things. This gives you the “tanky” adventage in pvp / wvw. In pve it’s very useful when soloing champs on some classes, like Mesmer. I haven’t made the best expiriences with pve condi engi tbh. I’d say power works as good.
And wheeeere did she study? :P Mainly charr and asura ^^ My engi is a charr but this is because it fits so good to me and his “personality”. However I’d say you do the following things before choosing:
about the size doesn’t affect anything thing – i’m pretty sure it does affect the start point of projectiles and since the flame blast is normally caused in a napalm field, you’d be better with an asura. However it’s a minor difference and i’ll test it if I’m definitly right.

Greetings, both of my mains are Engineer and Mesmer. I love them both equal and have almost 4k h expirience in PvE… sigh I have no life … uhm cough btt:
The Engineer has great AoE (5 tagets!), vuln stack and damage and is very flexible in his role. He can also grant stealth up to 20 sec and buff high amount of might too, even reflection or at least projectile defense is in his kitten nal. He lacks in stability wich is his only downside imo. Great in dungeons, best for open world zerg farm, extremly hard to master. Definitly to most complex and hardest class to play in PvE.
The Mesmer has great survivablity, single target damage, now with Mantra of Pain (since last patch wich made it AoE, aswell as the interrupt mantra) even decent AoE. He has a 100% reflection uptime, fast reacting condi removes, and boon remove wich is very rare and can become very handy for retaliation and protection (wich is removed a passive +50% damage increase for the pt, in theory :P). Also has the best dps elite in the game – Time Warp, wich increases the party DpS for 10 sec by 50%~. This can generate huge passive damage.
Both classes do well in every aspect of PvE, however zerging is much harder with mes and solo champs is normally harder with engi.
if you dont select a target then camera-aim targeting makes it almost impossible to hit an enemy not in melee

Dont mark the enemy then it works. It’s when you walk behind the target during the chargetime of the skill.
I would enjoy it if Time Warp was glamour.

I don’t have a gaming mouse, I have a for my hand confortable mouse without dozents of keys.
For my keysetting, I’m using:
WASD for movement, and 12345CRTZ6 for the weapon skills, heal, utility, elite. The “C” for heal was handy because it was my heal in Battlefield Heroes xD back in those days :P

Afaik it does not affect their hitboxes, but it does affect the spot where projectiles are homing at or where they start to fly. I’m not 100% with the homing part, but it definitly affects the start point of projectiles.
Mesmer curtain or engineer napalm fiels are very low and you can make more use of them as an asura than a charr or norn.

Yea backitems and often shields too look strange on charr, yet I think the spinal wings only look good on a charr since they are so huge and you wouldn’t stay so straight wich such a heavy thing on your back o.o looks silly xD
