I can only talk about the PvE part with full expirience and there the engi is like the allrounder and best damage dealer together with ele.
The engineer is able to stealth a party like a thief, stack a huge amount of might and vulnerability for the party dps and supports the team with relfecion, projecile absorbtion, heal, condicleanse and basicly everything except stability uptime.
The damage output is mainly AoE and he is able to hit 5 targets with almost all of his skills. The damage numbers are also pretty high and he is on the top dps tiers. I’d say together with ele. He helps with his vulnerability to deal great passive damage against bosses (who lose vulnerability faster than normal mobs) so he’s great against bosses too and helps the thief (for example) to shine.
TL;DR: The engineer is top tier in dungeons, especially now that the FGS has been fixed. He’s better than a 2nd warrior or something, definitly. The only drawback is how hard the engineer is to play to be efficient. If you think you got swift fingers, like a high skillcap and a good challenge, the engineer is a good choice for you.

That’s an asura problem in general – they are so tiny, you won’t really notice their appearance anyway, unless they are really really strange. A legendary for an asura? No thx.
I just love these arguments. #1 skill doesn’t do much damage most people choose grenades in a none zerker build from what I’ve seen especially in PVE, they can actually make the #1 skill on this kit a skill that fires off like it does underwater and not affect balance at all but people will keep peddling that nonsense, far be it that Engineers get some equal balance time on this title. smh

As the others already mentioned before, the healing turret does not lag, nor is it a bug. EVERY turret has an attack rotation, so does the healing turret. All their overcharges will be affecting the next rotation. Make sure to activate the healing turret before the rotation starts, better spam the key.

Overall buffs, especially warden fixed for pve, scepter and staff buffed for pvp, yea, some minor bugs are there but nothing that cannot be prevented by yourself.
What I meant is that projectiles are homing to your chest and some reflection walls (curtain f.ex.) are so low that you can have adventages as a mesmer if you are asura.
The same is with the flame thrower napalm field. It’s not high and a charr or norn easy will shoot over the field with flame blast. There is a thread about this where I’ve explained it with awesome paint art

Best looking, imo charr any sex or human male. I’m a male charr. I’ve got a predator and quip, gonna post you some pics later
However the best class to play, with slight adventages are asura. The hitbox is different and also the usage of the flamethrower combo field + finisher is easier.

Energized armor grants you only 75 power and since you are loosing 100 ferocity I’d not suggest it. You also loose a high amount of damage from Firearms AND 100 precision. So – traiting in inventions is a total waste of trait points.
Allways go for 6/6/0/0/2 if you want damage. If you know what you are doing you can stay on that. Just swap utilities rather than traits to adapt the situation. However if you need vigor, go for 6/6/0/2/0 and forget about rifle mod and take swiftness on crit for a perma vigor uptime.
As an engineer you want full zerker or kitten equip + strength runes. Sigils depend on your allies. If you have 25 stacks might: force > battle, otherwise vice versa. In my case I take both since I solo a lot and 9 stacks free might are great! If you have troubles with blocking and doding attacks, you sure can use energy too.
The most important advice I can give you: Don’t stay on your utilities, swap them and adapt. Also do so with your weapon. Sure rifle has some burst, but the shield and pistol 3 both are very defensive and bring great utility. For example Mai Trin, a rifle is a no go.

PS: whoever used sitting duck in his build – it has a 5 sec cd and therefore does not work with aoe very well. It sux!

Mantra full dps build is 6/6/0/0/2,
for reflection uptime and damage 6/4/0/4/0,
for reflection burst I’d say 6/6/0/0/2 too,
and for reflection and AoE now 4/6/0/4/0.
If there is no use of brining any mantras, 4/4/0/6/0 for reflection,
5/4/0/5/0 for damage if phants die fast + reflection,
4/6/0/0/6 for phantasm dps.
But in the end there are so many thing you have to think about before picking a build. Do you need reflection, spike, uptime? Do phantasms survive? Do you need AoE, interrupt, do you use 2+ mantras? Yea, much stuff to think about as a mesmer ^^

btt: good video to remind ppl what they loose if they waste skills. I often see the same mistakes in PvE too. Just wasting finishers or simply not using them. 1 out of 10 engineers even buff before a fight u.u
This is mesmer downed skill 3 – just hit someone for 5k with that skill and it said smoke bomb in battle log.

Mortar Kit itself can have NO cd, yet the skills 1-5 should have between 20 and 180?

Oh my bad – I’m sorry then xD But yea I now understand what you mean. Maybe the skill is stronger against many many enemies in a line, but it’s so slow and clumsy, it’s probably not woth not exploding it. Good point.
I play some self made signet + invuln + reflection build with staff and condi dmg. It works greatly against hambows, some thieves and engis and especially ranger. Rapid fire is suicide <3
This is just how the camera works. The left click camera just turns around your own camera. If you use the right click camera, the char also turns around and shoots into that direction you’re looking at. This is perfectly fine for shooting at points in the air or for using max range skills in close combat (like Mesmer Feedback).

The phantasms and clones aswell iDefender seem to have lower HP since patch.

Wait whut?! When did they do THAT? Didn’t read nothing in patch notes – again a bug?
€dit: Went to Orr fryfox and tested the HP myself. I’ve got a different number:
PvE:
*Clone – ~4’000 HP → definitly not 2’433 HP → 4’170 HP
*Phantasm – ~5’500 HP → 5’821 HP
*iDefender – ~12’000 HP → 12’476 HP
Since Defender PvP→PvE is +71,4% HP and Phantasm PvP→PvE is +71,4% HP aswell, and if I add the same amount to the 2’433 HP of a clone, I recive 4170 HP, wich is definitly right.
But seriously, was it in the patch notes???

As a new player you will of course not have the best equip, nor runes and neither expirience. I suggest you use a rifle + bombs for leveling since, like others already said, the engineer basic attacks normally suck. The other 2 skills aren’t that important, so try them all!
Expirience is knowledge and knowledge is power! Test your skills and keep in mind that every skill has a toolbelt skill wich can be completly different from the main skill and sometimes making it worth taking. Since you can’t see those toolbelt skills without unlocking the skill itself, I’ll show them all to you if you want.

The flame blast isn’t lacking IF you blow it up, wich you are supposed to do. You also seem to forget that it’s a 6 (!) sec cd blast finisher, wich generates great passive damage. Don’t judge just for damage and cast time. It’s a good skill.

Also tirrets often die in zerg pretty fast. The only hope would be to put the terruts on the edge of a fight. Heh – seriously, they are called turrets :P
Since last patch and the death of FGS, aswell the mantra buffs, Mesmer have recived a huge buff. They have been buffed the most last patch. Great class and fun to play.
Animation and sound was great, aswell the skill itself. Now it’s crap.
The wiki numbers were made by me, though that was like a year ago. Unless ANet changed their hp the numbers should be correct.
They once recived that PvE buff and since then, nothing happened. So, yes, it’s still correct.
Yup, the current mimic is just terrible. I tried it a few times, especially against theives. However it has nearly no impact. A blink, portal or anything else is just worth more. Think about arcane thievery – it’s about the same, but it feels just better. You really feel how you trade 3 condis for 3 boons. Better buff that a bit and change mimic to A REAL SKILL MIMIC!

Against Lupi, focusing on precision may be better, since you can throw elixier R for reflection. But in that case maybe ferocity would be good too, wich leads us again to zerker. Hm – … or does a precision, ferocity, condition damage stat set exist? I doubt it but … hm ö.ö
Well as for me I only solo CM p3 where the meta build is the best imo. I might try using turrets with reflection, now that I think about it ö.ö

On lupi, you’ll get *cked by the condicap. No – Zerker or kitten >>> Condi in every aspect of TEAMplay.
For solo, condi is viable. Either hybdrid (precision, power, condidmg) or full condi (condidmg, precision, toughness) is good for solo, when there is no condi cap. Full condi even makes you tank against bosses.
Well they fit if you have no back item that looks completly different and if you use brown and dirty iron dyes for your Engi. Yet if you use some aetherblade or magic or futuristic outfit with let’s say bright colors, super adventure box stuff or spinal wings, etc. Then you are gonna lay down, hug yourself and cry – cry like a little baby who lost it’s candy.
Uh you can’t just arbitrarily substitute bleed for attack speed and call that conclusive math.
You can calculate the 16% damage of the bombs, yet you cannot calculate the condition damage of the bleed. Once you hit the 25 stacks, your long lasting bleed get’s replaced by other bleeds, even if they are just a few sec. Also bleeding damage vanishes once the enemy died. This supports my “use bombs on low HP” theory even further. Also keep in mind that bombs are also able to proc bleed (15%), fire bomb (60%) even better than grenades (45%). So yes – it’s conclusive math, yet not perfect, I admit.
However I guess you get the point now. If not, I cannot help you anymore :|

6/6/0/2/0 for content you need to dodge more (no rifle mod).
Zerker or kitten doesn’t matter actually. I’d say solo Zerker is better and in parties kitten. Depends on your might stacks.

Ok I’ll explain it a bit further for you
I don’t tell you to stay on bombs, no way! Allways go for grenades for the burst skill, like barrage, sharpnel and freeze. Also use the AA if enemies are Elite + (maybe even Vet, depends on KS). But DO NOT USE grenade 1# if you are facing trashmobs or if enemies are about to die. Look at my fantastic paint skills! They will explain what I mean:

Sharpnel has a 15% chance to stack 15 sec of bleed. That’s like 800 damage every 2nd AA. With grenades thats like +400 damage per AA, for bombs rather +130. And even if you think about the Sharpshooter trait, the difference is much lower than the 30% the bombs deal more damage than grenades, especially when you got some might stacks, since bleeding scales terrible compared to direct damage skills.
The point is: grenades only deal higher passive damage due vulnerability. Yet against trashmobs or mobs who are about to die, vulnerability won’t matter that much, since it needs time to “deal damage”.
I suggest to use both, grenades and bombs, but if I had to choose, I’d say grenates are better in general.
But FT beating grenades and bombs in open world? Yea, i guess that’s right. But only if you keep 2# on CD and only if there are 1-3 enemies.

Grenade will give you better personal DPS because of the vuln stacking. It’ll only lose if you are already capped on conditions without the grenades.
Nope. Only grenade 2# and 4# will. Bomb 1 deals about 30% more damage then Grenade 1 and has a wider AoE if enemies aren’t stacking perfectly. Also when mobs are about to die, or when we are talking about trash mobs, new vuln doesn’t matter anymore.

That’s what i meant. Zerk or kitten doesn’t really matter. I made some math and we are talking about a few % crit chance for a few % dmg. Still, I prefer Zerk – cuz I already have it ascended XD
What I meant was more the scholar runes. Strength is better everywhere but groups where you will not be the might stacker / you allways have your 25 stacks. I doubt that scholar will be worth it in normal parties. Especially as engineer, where you allways get the aggro
The thing about juggernaut is that it grants you might you will not have in parties. Well you will have might in parties, but everyone will have might at parties, and 25 stacks is the cap. You won’t really benefit from this trait there.
However while playing solo, you can easy go for it, it’s great for open world if you like the FT. However FT aa is still weak and is just there for style. It would be great if the skill would deal really great damage but well … we don’t have the flame legion technology, do we? :/
