Kits were balanced for exotic gear. By the introduction of ascended gear it was like a 5% overall dmg nerf to engi. After a few weeks-months they gave them the ascended bonus.
To clear that for you, normally berserker stats (power > precision = ferocity) are the highest dps for each class. There are however exceptions like the Mesmer who’s damage highly relays on reflections.
Reflected projectiles are unaffected by power, yet are affected by your own crit chance and crit damage. Therefore a Mesmer is most of the time more efficient with Assassins gear (precision > power = ferocity).
Now back to the engineer. The engineer main damage output that is overwhelming compared to other classes lies in the vulnerability stacks he creates. He deals a high amount of passive damage and is capable of keeping 15 stacks vuln sustained on bosses (wich have 50% duration) without any duration increases. The other classes have mostly 2-5 stacks.
Those vuln stacks also come on crit wich makes it important for the engineer to have an increased crit chance.
Currently the way to go gear is:
Armor and weapon -> assassin stats
Trinkets and back -> berserker stats
However the difference is really minor, if you already got your full zerk / kitten gear, keep it. It’s rather elitism. Just keep in mind not to get over 100% crit chance. Think about warriors war banner (7%) and fury (20%). Sometimes you got a ranger for another 7% aoe buff, but that’s rarely the case. So don’t get over 73% crit chance. Keep in mind we got a trait that increases the crit chance by 10% if the target is under 50% hp. It’s not sure how important this is but 63-73% crit chance is your goal.

Well I am leveling this class now. It’s my last character till expansion before I have a 80 of each class.
Teach me how to make this fun to play. Because right now only offhand pistol has any nice attacks other than great sword which is two hander.
Don’t worry, It’ll change. Mesmer is a pain in the kitten to level and gets strong at lv 80, cuz the mes depends on all the traits. It’s not the easiest class to play and you have to know what you do. But it’s rewarding.
I can only talk about the pve part of the flamethrower, and there he is perfect. The auto attack is great for tagging in open world, yet rather useless in dungeons. However skill #2 is a blast finisher with a 4.5 sec CD when traited and most of the time deals of 10k dmg. The FT is a great might stacker, has blind and reflection for the really important parts, like harpy fractal or Mai’Thrin, or CM, etc and a long lasting fire field. How to use the FT needs some practice but it’s a great weapon for pve dungeons and openworld.
Engi are masterrace together with war and ele. The other classes can mostly be replaced. They are not yet in speedrun records, but I’m extremly sure they are incoming. Those ppl just haven’t realized what passive damage is. To show you what I mean, play with this tool and take a look at the dps with and without engi:
TL;DR: Engi is godtier in PvE.

I’ve got every class lv80 and played some more and some less than other classes. I’m very expirienced with both, engi and war.
Warriors are much easier to play and get boring very fast imo. They deal average damage, have good offensive party support and are tanky and will allow you to make mistakes without a big deal.
Engineers are the harders class to master in pve, since it’s all about rotations, combo fields and blast finishers, aswell as party support in every way. You have to know every skill you got to become a true blessing for your party, but it’s quite fun to be ablt to do all the stuff.
Overall engineers are stronger. They even deal 20-50% more damage than wars and when it’s about 5 target aoe, they deal almsot double damage. Right now they are PvE masterrace, together with war and ele. They all affect a party the most. Other classes can be replaced. The engineer can do literally EVERYTHING except for 2 things wich are: sustained group stability and boonrip.
Since warriors are more common, I’d say you focus on your engi. If you are EU West, I’m happy to help you and teach you some cool stuff with the engineer It’s a great class to play, just pm me ingame!

The stats will change but the weapon damage itself will not affect kits. BUT if you have an ascended weapon equipped, you get a 5% dmg bonus on kits! It’s also 5% weapon damage increase from exotic to ascended. This has been patched since quite a long time now, to make engineers balance with the ascended weapons update, since they were the only class that couldn’t benefit from 5% more weapon damage.
Mesmer phantasms also get a dmg bonus, but I guess it was only 2% (someone here made once some tests with it, idk exactly anymore, but I’m 100% sure about the engi part of my post).
TL;DR: “~Yes~” you get 5% more damage with ascended weapons.

to be honest the #1 harpoon gun skill is just there to fill the gap.
use skill 2 and 4 in rotation with kits for under water combat
just with land combat u swap between kits / main weapon for the skills. so apply the same to water combat and boom awesome fun happy time.
once u learn to kit swap u will understand how awesome and powerfull the engineer is with access to sooo many skills and abilitys (6 per kit don’t forget the tool belts ! )

I’m very very glad to have such an underwhelming auto attack and to gain instead the by far highest underwater combad dps with #2 #4 and bomb aa. Grenades are semi good, they are our ranged option, but miss in melee very often, bombs also have a reduces cast time under water (like 25% faster than on land). EG or mines are fine too.
I have to disagree with everything you want to change. AA is good enough and must be “weak” since it also works with clones and deals torment on hit. Block is a great skill to prevent nukes and counter REALLY hard. And last bot not least a channeled skill is superior against invis targets to show you where they are, aswell the effect is superior. No need for a change, scepter is godtier right now.

I find all those electro dyes highly inappropriate … what I want to say is – they’re ugly You look like a marshmellow – if it is what you want get them, but it’s nothing for classy, stylish outfit designs.

btt: I’m not sure about a phantasm on the shield. What we know so far about the specs: Each spec gets the ability to wear another weapon. So maybe the mesmer has a pahntasm on every weapon, but maybe the mesmer cannot use a shield but the “chronomancer” can and those do not use phantasms at all … maybe
They said it’s not gonna be a spear. No aquatics gonna be land weapons.
I think war either gets a torch, pistol or the new weapon – battle staff.

We can’t be full tank? Please? If the shield gives us some sort of supportive aegis, protection or maybe even a distortion, we can go full healing power tank and spam mop with healing mantras being the 1k HP per second (AOE!) buddy every pvp player wants to have :O
Hey, having all the dyes in the game, I can tell you those for mesmer most fitting are definitly those:
The enameled ones are by far superior due their additional shaders, yet both over 20g for sure!
Isn’t it the intention to play what you like? AI is one thing, but it also could be improved. Also for me it’s mainly the mesmer aspect wich has no real AI like other minions do. They are more like a dot that can be destroyed easily.
And for a PvE pick only?

Those are all options in pvp yet they are all semi good or bad in pve. The “standard” sigil choices for pve however won’t work as good on mes as they work on other professions, since the damage is split into mes and phant and the modis only affect the mes.

The sigil does NOT increase your damage by 10% if you have a companion. It does increase the companions damage by 10%. So there is quite a difference between this and force.
The main reason for it to be a sigil was because of my thoughts about what I should put on my mes weapons when I want to focus on phants. The answer was “battle or strength” … but ye – that’s might and might stacking sigils are bad in orga pts. So what else? Nothing. And that “nothing” is kinda weird imo.

Imagine the new possibilities and supported playstyles:
- a good pick for mesmers, since modifiers like force or accuracy won’t affect phantasms, this would be an option for less personal but more phantasmal damage
- ranger pets for kite builds or more pet focused playstlye
- thief build for traps and thief guild elite, probably mostly pvp
- necro minion master for pve buff, dunno how op or up they are in pvp, but since I don’t see them in ranked they are probably too weak
- spirit weapon guards – arise!
What do you think? Wouldn’t a sigil like this be great for the game?

Indeed, warriors will probably not make use of this sigil, and turrets neither since they are constructs. Not every sigil has to be viable with every class.
Ele’s elementals however will get the boost.
You know nerfs are made because something IS too strong. Those warrior nerfs were because warriors were nobrainer and still dealt too much dmg. You don’t have to cry about nerfs like this. And yes – we DID deserve it.
We get a shield, that’s it. But I’d like to get a fan aswell.

best engi skills damage whise are acid bomb, grenade barrage, mine field and big ol’ bomb.
The might nerf affects all classes, there is no need to get buffs for it. That is the intention of a nerf in first place.
CDR + a damage boost is something some classes wish for when they trait their skills. And autotraiting underwater component is also something every class has somewhere. The trait is fine and does not need buffs imo.
Right now I was playing (dont hate me for dis >.<) cele / condi mes with 3 mantras and mantra heal + image reta + defender. I literally never ever laught so much about thiefs trying to kill me and – nothing happens. I just tried in hotjoin and thief daily so yea … still was able to tank 3 noob thiefs until help appears. It’s extremly durable and you can run and heal all day long with mop. It’s funny but I’m not sure how viable. The aoe mantra heal might be great for the team though.
Yea going 6/4/0/2/2 with hammer #3 you’re gonna blow them away. Also make sure to use the utility skills, battle drones, automatic heal kit dispenser and the grenade kit. As elit i’d say you use the mortar kit.

The aetherized weapons were probably the best weapons ever made – they are creative and totally fir to all the steampunk and or engi classes out there. I wish they came back for the shield, pistol, rifle, axe and ofc HAMMER

Those warriors who complain about their class actually really should quit – but you won’t find an easier class to play the brings so much to the pve team. Stop crying about the past, the present is important and there you are still top tier.
Still no fan as a weapon, but the shield was my 2nd choice. I dunno what’s up with all those pistol fanatics. Pistol mainhand wouldn’t really fit anyway and just be too similiar to a scepter w/e skill you give it.
They did a good job by maybe letting us go cele in pvp or even tanky / healing mantra kitten.
Just can repeat myself – PvE wise warrior is still (together with engi and ele) masterrace. You can either go full damage for a good amount of 10k solo dps, or go full support and buffing allies while having a solo dps of about 7k. Hambow in PvP still rocks and WvW chilling-way-to-go is also war. Just because the damage isn’t anymore at ele/ingi/thief level, doesn’t mean they’re bad. They are just fair now.
Mesmer PvE “meta” in one build doesn’t exist. But you will be shifting between those:
No – just no pls. Golemancer? Rather tank driver, mad scientist or simply “Genius”.
Aetherblade styled anchor it is for me too. Best choice by far. My charr is already exited to jump and explode and BOOM BAAAM BIIIING BENG BENG with it :> Maybe we can throw it too and stun the enemies like scarlets minions :>
About those drone like flying super things – I already love them but I guess they will be kitten I mean – Every minion is kitten so far – ranger pet, nekro pet, ki flaws … :S

Hammer has been seen together with battle drones in the cinematics. I beleve there is only one weapon per class, same as GS necro, staff ranger and shield on mes.
And what would you suggest if I’m right now to poor to invest in strength runes? Or better – I run scholar for the time I retrait to 46060 / 65003. Instead of building a 2nd armor set – without strength runes I’m unable to sustain the might over the time I’m on my axe/mace. Or is there a way to improve? With strength 05063 and without 06062?

Really? Dungeons/Fractal is only a small fraction of the whole game. Guild wars don’t even cater to dungeons anymore, that they got rid of their dungeon team long ago. In Open world, axe offhand very useful. Not to mention double axe has good dps and with content as easy as in dungeons, any weapon set is viable if you don’t care to have the fastest record speed run.
With the recent change to adrenaline for warriors, axe off-hand is more useful in pvp.
And I stopped reading. Cuz of this:
Damage is increased by 50% while in Structured PvP.
That’s the reason why it’s viable in pvp and not in pve. The thread is about PvE Axe Offhand … stop mixing up things. And pve it’s only good for tagging open world wich is not the main endgame. It clearly needs a buff for dungeons and fotm.
If axe offhand became viable more 46060 builds with pure axe would come up and be as viable as the common 65003.
So you say I should go 05063 and rotate with strength runes. And if there’s an engi with me I’d beeter go 06062 and camp gs with scholar runes. I guess the first one is more common, especially for pugs.
Whirling axe indeed needs a buff, a little one in dmg like 25% and projectile absrob or maybe protection for the duration. Right now it deals vs 5 targets less damage than the axe aa vs 3. Also 100b deals less damage than axe aa. Overall either buff 100b final hit by 10-20% or simply reduce the ridiculously high dps of the axe aa.
