How would support Elementalist work?

Depends on what you mean by support, if healing then yes it can assist but each person should learn how to maximize their own healing. They are also very good at building might in a group using various blast finishers on their own fire fields. Also have some of the highest damage ability in the game (depending on skill of user of course).
Drawback is they can be squishy while learning them.

Guardians range is not the best. Engie on the other hand with grenades is good mid and far range. If you want to support keep in mind how close you need to be to the other player to get the buff, warrior can actually be really good at buffing with banners and shouts. Warrior is also very forgiving of mistakes and easy to pick up. Myself I enjoy other proffs much much more.
You seem to be thinking in a trinity type mindset and I gotta say it is not a good thing to do in this game. You have 5 free slots, pick something you like and play with it for a while, if you like sPvP it is even easier to get an idea of how each handles at max level. If not you can get a good feeling by about level 20 if you don’t skip levels with things like EoTM.

Instant 20, no gear.

Yargesh.4965

I stumbled upon this because I too am a boomerang (haven’t played since GW2 launch) and found an instant-20-token waiting in my mailbox.

So now I’m on my level 20 engineer, in my starting area, with no clue what to do/where to go.

It’s not about being a bad player but MMOs can be overwhelming when you first login. Takes hours to even figure out the UI.

So the most logical choice if you are fresh level 20 with no gear, in the level 1 zone, is…

1. Buy level 20 gear from vendors and
2. Go to level 20 zone and start doing hearts

Correct?

(Thanks from a newbie!)

Not really.
If you want to learn you can go to any zone even the starter zones. You level is adjusted to the area. Like I said above learn dodges and damage mitigation and it will ’ve of huge benefit to you for the rest of the time you are playing.
Take it slowly, what you learn early will have a huge impact layer on.
Buying from the trading post is generally cheaper that merchant equipment as well.

Yargesh.4965

The gear you get from drops and level up is actually good enough that you don’t need to buy anything. It does come down to knowledge and experience though (I have done a new account from zero to 80 recently).
Don’t try to take on mobs above your level until you are more comfortable with your play style.
Travel around the various starter zones, nothing is stopping you and you get a lot of experience.
Find a mob you know you can kill and learn dodges blinds, whatever. If you are not taking damage from that go up in difficulty.

A question for those who use their middle name instead of forename:

When did you decide/was it decided to use your middle name? Is there a reason why?

I ask because I despise my first name of Christopher, and at age 18 I tried to get people to use my middle name of Simon. My parents completely agreed, had no issue with it, but noone ever remembered so I finally dropped it and went back to Chris.

I was thinking of actually changing my name legally to a chosen forename, and changing my surname from White to its ancestral Waskaelis (I’d need to find a definitive correct spelling first) because I hate my forename so much, just wondered how quickly people adapt, or if they ever do.

I use my middle name because shortly after I was born my parents decided that they didn’t like my first name as much. Now I know that anyone calling using my first name is a salesman and makes life easier.

I need help with staying on target.

I have just read that what many believe would be the main competition to this game has been gutted pushing back release to an unknown time. They have also severed ties with the company behind the planed AI.
This will directly impact GW2 I believe.
1. No competition is bad for creativity.
2. Letting others experiment with ideas is a great way to see what does and does not work.

On an aside grats to massively OP on their kickstarter.

Okay, going out on a mad rush here. In the Tyrian calendar, this is the year 1328. The Golem Uprising described in a book we read in LS2 says it happened in 1284. 44 years ago.

Going back 44 years, Gary Gygax released his first gamebook. Okay, it was a set of rules for medieval miniature gaming but we all know who Gary Gygax is, right?

Teq - Lack of loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

Total bunk complaint. Teq does not have a lack of loot. You get multiple champ boxes, a nice chunk of karma, and a bunch of materials after salvaging. That’s not even considering that teq pays out gold too. On top of that, you can get it multiple times per day.

6 months? Oh well. You ARE going after something that’s on par with a precursor. Difference is, you’re only going for it once a day. I’ve played for over a year, and finally got a Teq’s Hoard last night. And I farm teq, not just go fight him once a day.

It seems you’re just fed up with it not giving you a teq’s hoard. Now, if you want to talk about an event that gives meager rewards, then we can discuss Triple Trouble.

The bug that you don’t get the gold chest on crimson the majority of the time does not help either (condi and deboof).
Teq is actually really really good for one event.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

I am betting it is a rather small part of their income. Their 1% whales would have bought most of theirs by now, and new players were scared off by the horrible NPE. Their weekly sales and new flavours are what make them their money.

Yeah, except for the fact that the vast majority of the people shouting about the “horrible NPE” are veteran players that knew how the system was before, thus had something to compare to.
Based on actual in-game experience however I see plenty of new people running around.

And yes, their weekly sales do indeed make them money. But it is also rather silly to claim that they make no money off bank and bag slots.

You also still refuse to come up with what they should add to the store instead in order to replace the loss of income from removing the gem cost of bank and bag slots.

NPE is awful. They even admit that by removing the new trait system in HOT.

Cool that trait system change was 6 months before NPE.

Race is mainly aesthetic so honestly it’s up to you on that one. There are a few racial skills that work quite well with some professions (Mesmer and the Asuran skill “Technobabble” come to mind) but otherwise just go with what ever you like.

Profession wise what sort of play style do you enjoy?

I like hanging back a bit, always battling but not necessarily up close all the time.

All have ranged ability though although guard is not great at range. Like I said try something since you have 5 slots, don’t like it by 20 or so try something else.

Resistance (Boon) Not Wanted!!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yargesh.4965

Yargesh.4965

I’ll wait and see what base duration this resistance will have, how it will be applied (only to oneself, aoe, blasting possible new combo field types, etc.) and how stackable it is. I just hope they don’t overdo it with it.

But I have to say, taunt sounds interesting to me. Spam confusion and apply taunt Ö.Ö

I guess if you got targeted by such a combo, you would even be happy about resistance…

Don’t you mean Torment? Confusion + Taunt would mean you are potentially preventing your target from taking any action which would waste the confusion. How would it be much different from Fear for that particular use?

Actually I mean Torment + Confusion + Taunt. Apart from running towards you, the player affected by taunt spams auto attack in the process, at least if he/she has auto attack on, since they are locked out of all other skills except for stun breaks, if I understood that correctly. So you should at least get a few confusion ticks in.

Necro and revenant could thrive in that situation, not sure about others.

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yargesh.4965

Yargesh.4965

To fix this, they have to remove lv 80 armor drop from non-lvl 80 zones, so people can go in low level zones if they need low level material…

Do you know why they have so many lvl 80 drops in no 80 zones?

If i remember, is to give to players appropriate rewards, so they can return in low level zones and obtain good rewards, but this made sense at the beginning of the game, now, with ascended, low level material are much rare than high level because if you return in low level zones, you drop a lot of lvl 80 equip that drop high level material, and you can’t drop low level unless you farm bags from mob, or salvagable item.
if there is an other reason, tell me, i’m not totally shure in this

At first you did get level appropriate, then was charged so you are correct.
You still get some drops that can be directly salvaged on level most are character level.
You are forgetting though that all bags that drop are area level. Bandit centaur etc all have cloth in the loot table, and are easy to get.
