More amulets synergize better with the Longbow, so in PvP I’d consider the Longbow better. Although both aint optimal.

Longbow is pretty amazing, they did a great job fixing it- beyond expectations.

NB.: I just want to add that I would be delighted if they were to get rid of the useless animation that uselessly slow the spirit use of the active skill. And since they are at it, they could use a bit of time to shave off a few of the useless pet animation that kill the responsivness of the ranger’s pet. Well… I’m dreaming…

Shortbow range

I still don’t see a reason to use to the SB over the LB.

If it had 1200 range (like it used to) it would be ok in carrion builds, now the longbow is better even in a condi heavy build which is kind of weird imo. I mean if LB is better even running a condi build just when are we supposed to use SB?

Of course other changes would be great as well, like the flanking bonuses to skills suggested in another thread, but upping the range is just a baseline fix. 900 range is virtually melee range in HoT.

- Weapon: Shortbow needs the 1k2 range back. With only 900 range it will remain useless.

  1. needs 20-30% base dam boost. Flank bleed is ok, add more 1-1.5 sec duration.
  2. changes to an aoe poision bomb that give at least 2 stack of poision on 1 target and leave a poision field, unblockable. Ranger is lack of aoe since trap nerf.
  3. swiftness on hit is a joke, 2s superspeed is acceptable but the main problem is the leap back needs more range and should clean immobi.
  4. add 1-2s immobi if hit from behind cuz 4s of cripple is a joke. Pet hit change to torment is great, but i’m ok with the current bleed.
  5. add 1-2 stack of confusion if hit in front, 2-3 stack if behind. Actually without confusion it is still fine.

- Trait:
+ Sharpening merge with Hidden Bard. Havent had any idead for new adept trait.
+ LoYF: Change to reduce 15% damage and condition dam or condition duration when moving, shorbow percing and cd reduce. I know it’s boring to have this passive. But imo it fits the name “Light on your feet” and help the tatic hit n run. Also help other non-shortbow builds.

- Ultility:
+ Sharpening Edge: Base cd 30s. 2 stack of bleed each hit.

Great ideas, that would make the shortbow pretty good again.

The toggle should be to make the spirits follow or stay, take out the active effect and leave the passive as is, plus make the GM trait just baseline for spirits (without needing the trait). Make the healing spirit/Ultimate spirit scale with healing power.

Update: I activated another reward track and then reactivated Glorious as you suggested and it worked! I was scared I would get locked out of glorious for a period of time if I did that but it worked like a charm, thanks again.

Thanks again Asrat, I’ll try activating another reward track and then reactivating Glorious when I get a chance later on. My account is non-HoT but I bought the game long ago (not sure if there is a difference).

I just came back to play again recently and thought I’d give WvW a go this time round so am trying to gear up for it – hence the glorious reward track.

Hmmm. Its not the reward track. Glorious is repeatable and progress is being added. Could you maybe attach a screenshot of your PvP panel/reward track.
You say its both ‘completed’ and ‘active’ but the ‘completed’ should disappear once you reactivate it.

I finished the “Glorious Reward Track” in spvp and wondered if I can repeat it. It now says repeatable “0 of 40 Completed” (then in green “Complete!”) and “Active” but when I do spvp or use boosters I don’t see any progress in the progress bar for the track at the end of a match.

Do I need to do something specific to do that track again? Any reason why I am not seeing any progress on the progress bar?

Nobody is against expansions giving alternate forms of play. People are expansions giving, in many cases, direct boosts to power. Why are you people still bashing the people who are against the power creep? Are you honestly OK with the ludicrous imbalance even among the elite specializations?

Because most of them seem to be pvers and don’t understand that the issue is not that we object to paying for an expansion, but that the expansion includes classes/traits that are more powerful than in the base game.

If they played all or mainly spvp and realized that GW2 was they only mmo that offered skill-based pvp with a level playing field, then they would also feel the sadness that I do seeing what HoT has brought, not just the power imbalances but also the tragic decline in skill needed to play with these new classes/traits.

Just say that people, who bought GW2 and don’t buy HoT doesn’t get theirs elite specialisations for standard classes.
So, yeah, there are really p2w for them, cos pvp closed for them…

As I said, there is no MMORPG in existence that allows people to still be competitive unless they buy an expansion.

Give me any MMO where after the xpac your on a level playing field. WoW, FFXIV, FFXI, GW, EQ, and Rift all had the same model.

None of those mmos are set up to be level playing field pvp games, that was one of the main attractions of GW2. Until HoT there was no way to pay money to gain any advantage in spvp, now there is.

i’m sorry if i offend anybody here but i’m just gonna get down to the point. PVP is now majorly broken and nothing i do can fix it. alot of people (including myself) that have not bought the expansion now cant even play a match with getting majorly destroyed. rangers range on the staff is too long and now they can tank like guardians. guardians can now tank and kill from a distance. you have mesmers who can kill anybody in 2 seconds (as if they weren’t op enough).
now some people are gonna be saying “haha noob just buy the expansion”, BUT some of us like PVP and don’t want to pay $30 or more just to balance the gameplay. anet, i like how you do things, but you need to nerf whatever your giving these players HARD, because you have broken the entire PVP system

So they still haven’t nerfed those new specs? In that case, not buying HOT and not playing. Will wait until they try and fix it up a bit before coming back.

The reaper is by far the most balanced tank. To survive as a reaper you actually have to use your defenses at a right time, manage your life force pool and ds cooldown, try to cc your enemies when it actually matters, help your minions protect your kitten and so on.

The only problem is “balanced” is not what wins the game. The “meta” is, and that is swamped with invulni/immune/ spammage, and ofc the legendary tempests that even a power necro can’t touch if they know their stuff.

Balanced tank? kitten don’t make me laugh. It can tank and do great damage. Tanks should be able to eat all my burst and live, they should not be able to then virtually two shot me while keeping me in a CC chain and being immune to cc themselves.

I really do not see why they should have to cater to people who probably still click their skills with the mouse.

DH is easily countered if you have at least 4 brain cells. (2 to dodge, 2 to use your attack skills).

You see him plop down the traps. There is an actual animation they do. Dodge away from that place, and that’s it. More then half his damage is gone.

Don’t go “oh they have more traps then I have dodges”. You have other defensive skills. Use them. If you don’t know how, that is a l2p issue, not a DH problem.

There is a reason high rated matches don’t have DH in every game. People who actually know how to play the game counter it easily.

You don’t balance a game around someone who just started playing, you balance it around those who know how to play.

A trapper ranger has no active defences, no stunbreaks, no condition cleanse utilities, no stability and does less damage than a DH. A DH can do more damage (easily 100-0 many builds) and has active defences, immunity, condition cleanses, pulls, stunbreaks, aoe dazes and more.

This huge gulf between almost mirror builds is almost insulting. Why are the new specs and classes so OP? DH isn’t even close to the strongest of the new specs and yet it just totally kittens all over pre-hot trap/bow builds.

But of course anet won’t do that, since they hate rangers and so do the rest of the community. It’s even possible that just because you mentioned the word ranger in the forum, we might get a new nerf.

I am expecting that traps will be nerfed across the board so that they remain on CD until triggered. This would somewhat balance DH’s traps and completely destroy ranger and thief trap builds.

If that is really how the system works its kind of strange. Its like there are two ranking systems working in parallel and essentially cancelling each other out.

Wouldn’t it be more logical to use the new system without considering MMR? Then naturally players more skilled or in teams would get to higher tiers and play each other, while people with less skill/teamwork will have more difficulty gaining rank.

Reset everyone to zero at the start of every season and we all have a chance at climbing the ladder again.

Why would you make it so good players have a harder time gaining rank than bad players? Makes little sense to me.

Anything you buy that gives you an advantage and more than like to win over those who didn’t buy is the very definition of pay to win regardless of what game it is.

GW2 is no longer b2p because it is now f2p. So if you want to win over the f2p crowd, you need to buy HoT.

It is a rather valid perception. Anyone who doesn’t sees this is simply turning a blind eye.

But its ok because this is an mmo not a moba, and the new specs are “elite” that’s why they are more powerful.

The question is what is beyond elite? Its very important to think about because the most efficient way to monetize spvp is to release progressively more powerful specs/classes.

The only trouble is the HoT classes jumped up so far from the older classes/specs that there seems to be little leeway to increase power further in future. I mean after elite what is there? Demi-god specs?

Remember how Chaith was so anti bunker, anti Minstrel amulet that he helped to get it removed? That really screwed over bunker ele and guard builds btw.

Now they realized that they cant beat the bunker meta and will now embrace it, moving forward.

Sorry I cant provide screenies or other reference with his comments on Minstrel amulet because he got those threads removed as well.

But here’s a recent one you might enjoy

I don’t see the irony; he says the bunker meta has lowered the skillcap of the game and made several classes/builds basically redundant, but his team has no choice but to follow this meta since it is so strong.

The only thing is that I think balancing is going in the wrong direction: put simply some bunkers do too much damage/ have too much cc/ mobility, there are way too many powerful auto-procs in the game, and aoe is too prevalent/rewarding.

The release of the new specs in HoT, their performance relative to the original specs, and the longish period between balance patches has given me a great idea for making a gold mine from spvp.

All you have to do is make specs/classes buyable through gems and then release new specs every quarter that are progressively more OP. As with HoT everyone who wants to be a pro player will have to buy them to stay competitive, then just rake in the gold.

I hope you aren’t referring to Courtyard as a good map and Capricorn was removed because the didn’t like underwater combat.

Courtyard was a good map, had some of my best fights on that one. For Capricorn perhaps they could have just adjusted it a bit, taken out the water? Even with water it was still better than skyhammer.

But at least we have stronghold (well when it comes back).

Let me start by saying I don’t think DH is OP.

This is where you got it wrong.

Might be slightly biased seeing as it is my main, but there are more classes that give DH a run for its money than don’t in terms of skilled play. DH is just a very simple class with a low skill threshold (think something like the traditional Hambow). Unfortunately, to be blunt, there’s also a very low skill threshold in seeing a DH and thinking that you should run up to it in a straight line to the exact spot where it’s standing to attack it.

Most of the HoT specs are OP, not just DH. If someone playing a DH can’t regularly wreck other players, especially non-HoT specs, they really need to L2P.

DH’s traps are ridiculously strong, especially with zerkers. The other traps like ranger’s and thiefs are mostly utility and condition, meanwhile DH’s are burst.
Please nerf the damage its totally BS to walk into them and instant down.

Yes I am being salty and QQ-ing, but its facts that I am crying about.

DH traps are burst that also carry extremely good utility -stability, stun break, blindness, aoe daze, swiftness, cripple, aegis, protection, fury, revealed, vulnerability, might, slow, regen.

They are so much more powerful than the existing traps (Ranger/thief) and the synergy they bring with other DH skills is just fantastic. I don’t think DH is the most OP of the new specs, but its the only one that manages to 100-0 me from time to time while basically keeping me cc’d.

There are lots of DHs that aren’t very good but still have a strong presence due to how powerful the build is; but DH + good player is really strong. That aoe burst combined with a lot of hard defences, lots of stability, lots of CC, good heals, and reasonable mobility is just magnificent.

Seems to be a bit of angst here about the number of instant cast traps and CDs etc for a DH. So here is a summary of the relevant DH skills that some see as OP:

Traps:
Two are instant cast, the others including heal and ultimate are 0.5 sec.
When traited all have an aoe daze.
In addition to delivering high burst damage, that can bring even high toughness builds of some classes from 100-0 (or close to) the traps apply a variety of boons and buffs that include blindness, regen, aegis, cripple, stability, vulnerability, revealed, swiftness, protection, might, and slow.
The heal trap can be “double cast” for a massive burst heal (unlike the Ranger version for example).

Virtues:
Justice loses its burn burst, but gets a 1200 unblockable pull
Resolve I think just gets a straight upgrade to better heal+ 800 leap/cure immob
Courage also seems to be a straight upgrade to include 5 secs of block everything

Traits:
Already mentioned the aoe daze on traps- extremely good minor trait !
Heavy/light: any longbow attack knocks back every ten secs when within 300 AND gives 6 secs of stability on knockback. Now that’s what I call an ELITE trait!

LongBow:
As mentioned above when traited every attack when in 300 knocksback and gives a whopping 6 secs of stability every 10 secs.
True shot- massive piecing damage every 4 secs (0.75 sec animation).

So the OP seemed to have a couple of facts slightly wrong, but he probably would have been even more surprised if he knew the details as shown above. I remember when I first read through it and thought “WTF!! How on earth did these kind of things pass through balance testing?”

Most of the new specs are really OP though; you just have to buy HoT or suck it up basically. Hopefully ANET will let players buy just the specs at some point.

Like what the hell Anet, since when are the classes with the best armor, best blocks and most hp are supposed to also do the most damage?

The details tab only shows up when there are details like roster sizes. If there is no details tab then everyone is solo. This tab will also show league badges in Ranked.
