Can I get a thumb down so that I can apply it to half of these comments? Most of the people who’ve replied to this topic have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
If the thief is using Infiltrator strike as a means to keep away from you then get near his SR spot.
Get off that kitten tear train and learn the profession.
EDIT: I am adding this thread to the “stupid kitten people say about thieves” thread.

If it’s so broken why don’t you make this character and go dominate PvP completely,
OH! OH! I know the punchline to this joke!
They can’t.
…absolutely fantastic. The amount of dedication, passion and soul put into this game is without parallel to anything available in the industry right now. ArenaNet is still pumping out updates, listening to community feedback and making lots of positive changes that have really done a great job in improving the game.
Even the gem store has managed to stay consumer friendly and unimposing. If mistakes are made, the staff have no quarrel rectifying it in quick order. Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the direction Guild Wars 2 continues to take. Keep up the amazing work.
Not sure if advanced sarcasm or serious.
Is it anything like this? This is what I use for PvE.
I think you’re article says the exact opposite of the point you are trying to get across.
1) it says that these games “Neverwinter” specifically was a game that was released while saying it was in beta, this was done by selling in game items to customers while giving the excuse that it was in beta still to avoid criticisms.
2) Gw2 does not says its in beta so basically this whole article was wrong and it’s highlighted in the article when they say "On the other hand, games that use Minecraft-like models such as Steam’s Early Access program (where a paid pre-order grants access to early, in-development versions of the game) don’t evoke the same reaction. Those are clearly communicated as unfinished, generally have specific launch dates in sight, and players get the full game for their money whenever it comes out. " This applies to the way GW2 was released you could buy the game before release and have access to all the beta weekends up to the time the game would be released…So maybe I’m wrong here but I’m guessing you’re trying to say GW2 is still in beta, and if that is the case I don’t see how this article supports your theory, in fact I think it goes against what I believe you to be saying.
That article has a vise-versa. In GW2’s case, they pushed an incomplete BETA to a “released” status and then refuse to do any major polishing because beta is over. They somehow believe their game is good2go and that taking feedback isn’t necessary. The point is exactly how you stated it and anet isn’t exempt.
Now it might not be a fully released game with a beta label but it definitely needs more polishing. I would say its more of a beta with a released label.
So if you buff thief, people will rage even more.

I was far more amused by that than I really should have been.
Also, I’m glad I looked at this thread. I’ve been curious about this trait, but I was hesitant to try it because I suspected it would be weak healing.

This idea is not going to happen. :/
I know right? lol
Maybe. If they would optimize their game they definitely would.
You do realize that a lot of “little kids who want their free everything” was the target group for the thief class, right? Little kids who want to run around ganking people with little to no effort, and want to troll people. It has been made harder for thieves, yes. The problem of being pigeonholed into 2 builds is not thief specific.
I also found amusing that you said you found pvp and wvw boring and switched to pve. Thats some funny kitten right there.
They are and PvE isn’t that great either but at least with PvE I have kittenloads of stuff to work on. I have fun when I progress and PvE unfortunately has alot of kitten to progress on. :P
And thief isn’t just for them, its for people who think cooldowns and rotations are boring.
Sniper rifles really don’t fit if you think about it. What kind of thief snipes? Very, very few I can think of in reality or in fiction. It runs against the spirit of the class which is infiltration, stealth and improvisation. The only theme it shares with a sniper is undetectability, but a lot of other completely unrelated GW2 things have that also going like the Snow Leopard elite.
How many traditional Rangers or casters can use a greatsword?
I think a Thief rifle would be interesting, but I don’t see the logic in having the autoattack chain being short-range -> mid-range -> long-range. The chain wouldn’t be able to hit anything farther away until the third skill, and the first two skills have to succeed to get there.
I do agree that Rangers should get first dibs on the rifle, though. If Thieves got one first, the rage would be incalculable (although amusing to read).
It isn’t a chain. It changes depending on the distance of the target.
I think you’ve confused Gaia with GW2, OP.
Perhaps one day GW2 may degenerate to that. Or perhaps they may go and ascend to a new tier, and reach that revolutionary goal they spoke off. It’s too soon to say though.
Its not to late to speculate.
If a car is headed towards a cliff and it keeps heading toward a cliff, then its safe to assume the car might actually fly off the cliff.
My complaint is that little kids who want their free everything would rather let anet nerf an overnerfed and poorly designed class instead of actually work for their kill. Despite the fact that this profession has 2 ways to avoid damage and kittenty mitigation while being squishy they still want this class ruined
Then I turn around and watch anet shower their idiot golden child profession with buff after buff when they already have some of the best traits and skills. Then there is the ever immortal guard. Its almost like canada, awesome (imo) but nobody really pays any attention to them and people will agree they are in a pretty good spot.
Before I quit sPvP and WvW though, I was dueling and theorycrafting with one of my friends. I messed with every class except necro and I just can’t see how most of these people complain about overnerfing. As far as I am concerned those classes are in a way better spot than thieves because not only do they have some use in every aspect of the game but they don’t have situational and useless traits and utilities that take up about 60% of the profession.
Me neither until they started running in groups.
A happy non-paying customer is a potential paying customer. Anet forgets this.
I do my best to catch all of them and make sure the numbers are right. Although, my second suggestion would definitely be OP. Pretty much turning Thief into a guard without the boons.
Try reading this again, your reply indicated that you did not.
You are literally too stupid to insult. Good luck with everything.
Ps having the support (2 people?) of like minded 13 year olds is not a good indication of anything. All they/you want is to be overpowered. (6th readover)
Let me put this here again
- Every thief will be hiding on walls;
- Or on cliffs;
- Or behind other players
- Or on higher ground etc, the root means nothing. And this
Right after firing, players will use any stealth skill, and combined with the below;
– Infusion of Shadow – Gain 2 initiative when using a skill that stealths you.
– Patience – Regain initiative faster while in stealth.
– Quick Recovery – Gain 2 initiative every 10 seconds.
– Quick Pockets – Gain 3 initiative on weapon swap while in combat.
– Infiltrators Signet – Passive: Regenerates one extra initiative every ten seconds. They will be on half to full initiative within a few seconds after firing.
Maybe it will sink in.. maybe. I keep coming back to this thread because it is hilarious how narrow minded and deluded some people can be.
Keep talking because I am done trying to reason with you. I am going to highlight the things that are killing your credibility until you get it.
After reading that little bit for the 5th time I think its worth mentioning that traited signets is alot better than what you are thinking.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
Ide rather roll warrior for the faceroll and 1500 Longbow instead. Its better.
want me to read all that a 4th time?
Try reading this again, your reply indicated that you did not.

Oh believe me, I have read your comment 3 times already I already know what your gripes are but quite frankly, I don’t care. You never read my post or comments and your replies have shown EXACTLY that.
In a weapon set with no synergy (something important to thief builds) and is obviously very weak at close range (something someone has already pointed out), one would think that maybe the way to counter rifle thieves is to get close? The fact that you posted Quick Pockets tells me that you are another biased bandwagoner who doesn’t know what they are talking about.
If they used quick pockets, guess what…. they need to wait 10 seconds more before firing the next shot. 18 seconds total for max range and damage.
Think about what your argument entails before you argue with someone more experienced than you.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
I infact don’t. I’ve tried them when I first started my thief. Got bored and switched to more non-stealth. Got bored with that and switched to gimmick. Right now I am using haste like a motherkittener.
However judging by your posts I suspect you rarely if ever play a thief and I can also safely assume you are a warrior main who’s only defending his class (which is understandable).
That does not mean that either of us are completely able to vouch for eachother’s professions. I’ve played my thief enough to know the utility side of it’s skills and have experimented with it enough to determine the general effectiveness of most of the trait, utility and weapon combinations.
After a year I have determined that a chunk of our traits are total kitten and most of our utilities are underwhelming. Because of it, thieves are pigeonholed into maybe 2 builds that remain viable for normal play. Anything beyond those two builds are gimmicky or weak. Signets and venoms in general suck without all of the traits to augment them. Stealing is a bad and boring RNG fire-and-forget skill that, like venoms and signets, can be traited to do everything at a press of a button.
Then I roll a war and see that I can double something’s damage while easily maintaining high crit rates and survivability stats or have access to plenty of stuns, stun breaks and condition removal. In fact, I envy every trait that a warrior has because all of their traits either augment direct damage a/o survivability whereas the thief has to heavily trait into damage or survivability to be effective while maintaining some level of synergy.
The reason why I have posted this is because I am kitten ed at how poorly designed this profession is and how a bunch of developers that hype this game to death don’t even play it and let it putrefy underneath the ocean of scrub tears. It adds to the massive list of unpolished areas in this game and it shows class bias on the developer’s part.
Then they would have to increase pistol range for everything. Anet intended the pistol and shortbow to be used closer than longbow and rifle, probably to offset the lack of upgrade slots.
It would heal over 1k per DB if it was coupled with Signet of Malice and assuming you had 1500 healing and DB completely hit.
However, as it is right now it isn’t worth considering unless you plan on using all healing traits and utilities.
Hey Seras,
I am not a longbow expert but do you have some ideas of your own for Longbows or know anyone that does? I actually want to see what ideas are out there.
…hey Maybe they should experiment /w some Gem-Store “Kickstarters” to fix Bugs?
Let the players directly influence priorities finally instead of letting fluff decide it…
Do it….
They can’t charge you for fixes. They can charge you for gems to buy hairstyle.

THIS! SO MUCH THIS!
No traits should give you any more initiative while in Snipe or Ghillie Suit. I would like it this way because I also believe that it would make snipe OP.
However Snipe is not like backstab that doubles damage output while landing from behind. In fact its more like Cloak and Dagger in terms of damage. Now, no, it is not spammable and the root I put in there has to last for 8 seconds before the thief can get the full range and damage bonuses. That’s 8 seconds for someone to notice them kneeling and pointing the gun at them before the shot fires and another second to dodge, strafe or take cover. It may be as powerful as a GC CnD but it will be the most telegraphed attack the game has.
In a worst case scenario, the Rifle thief will be running signets for utilities and will burn the signets to “Reload” using the Signet use and possibly Hastened Replenishment. Otherwise they will be running a few traps and Shadow Refuge. That’s 0/20/0/0/30 at minimum leaving 20 points left to place in Acrobatics or Shadow Arts for survivability.
Traiting for rifle damage would seem OP however the moment you get close enough to that glass rifle thief his good attacks become a liability. Better yet you can get within 1200 and wail on them and they will melt.
INB4SOMEONECRYINGOHPEE
Yeah but the difference is that not only can warriors escape without stealth, but they do it better than thieves. Secondly, if a thief is built for anything but damage they are not going to do enough damage.
You guys can gear for survivability and then spec for damage and even more survivability. Thieves have to gear and trait for damage or survivability for it to be effective.

I play my magic card called Necropost!
Yeah I have. Have you?
Have you even read my post thoroughly?
Did you see that the activation cost for Snipe is 7 + 1/sec?
Effectively half of initiative pool?
Both Ghillie Suit and Snipe cancels on skill usage and wastes w/e initiative you just spent on it. With that I have effectively blew your shadowstep theory out of the water.
It is fine to make suggestions like this, but there needs to come a point when you stop acting like a mother, where you think your baby is a shining beacon of good, no matter how bad/evil to the core it is, just because you created it.
And there is a time where you need to admit that you were outplayed instead of holding onto a subtle grudge against the most useless class this game has to offer.
Every scrub that has ever gotten killed by a thief has cried and moaned about the thief to death. Then someone comes along with an idea that would help the thief in the slightest bit and suddenly the thief looks OP. The problem now is not with the class, it is with the players and their refusal to learn.
For a day old idea, it has gotten plenty of support already. So if it happens I guess you’ll have to deal with it.
I am using PvE as an example. The only difference between PvE and PvP is the enemies you face and while vastly different tend to require close to the same amount of planning and execution. Skill is relative and in most cases I find that using a thief takes way more than some of the other classes.
This isn’t solely because of the difference between combat mechanics but also because of the effort:reward ratio. Guards and Wars are facerolly classes and I am irked that their e:r is on the opposite site of the kitten spectrum of thieves.
I almost completely believe that thieves exist to be a scapegoat because thieves are handed the kitten end of the stick in almost every aspect of the game.
Thieves are the best 1v1 class and one of the best roaming classes in WvWvW. Sorry, but pve doesn’t resemble wvw.
and if I remember correctly, WvW doesn’t make up all three parts of this game. However, since stun-lock warriors have become a better roaming option than thieves there isn’t anything thieves can do that another class can do better.
So PvE or not, my point remains that thieves are scapegoats.
Stun lock warriors cant escape a fight
Stun lock warriors cant escape a zerg chasing him
Stun lock warriors cant pick off a Yak with around 6+ people trying to killl him
Stun lock warriors cant res any one without being focused on
Stunlock warriors don’t need to escape fights.
Very many people can’t escape a zerg chasing them.
Who even guards a yak? How often does a group of 6 just so happen to check on dolyaks?
And yeah they can. It’s called battle standard while attacking the stompers.
I tried that combo. There are better skills.
Bump because needed
Can’t pretend to be what you are.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
That wont do anything.
That was a comparison. Something vital to MMO survivability that anet needed to work on a year ago (polishing) has not been even touched upon.
The example I posed reflects that.
Actually it does. L2P is a valid argument against any bad player because bad players lack experience. Even thieves who kitten about other classes are told L2P by other thieves because they at least know best way to know your enemy is to be your enemy.
EDIT: As a supplimental, if I was using this, I would be sacrificing my entire resource just to pick you off from a distance. I would be rooted and easily telegraphed to the point where if you fail to maintain situational awareness and fail to dodge or strafe out of the way of the bullet that you’ll see come at you then you deserved the death.
And if you havn’t forgotton, before the most recent meta shift thieves were best at roaming. Now stunlock-warriors are the flavour of the month and they tend to dominate every class.

I like how I am jealous of every trait you guys have. That and that I can safely hit consistant 1ks at lvl 20 which I have NEVER done yet.
Arena Net: “Why fix the existing content in our game when we can just add more?”
EDIT: I am not actually surprised because I know that somewhere in their stack of papers there is something that convinces them that their game is perfect.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
It isn’t conquest so anet doesn’t care about it.
^ Grow up.
And what is wrong with pistols?
Combined with Runes of Perplexity they can stack a ridiculous amount of confusion on 1-2 targets using Headshot with bounce (Which can also apply blind by shooting through 5th skill), let alone 5th skill is almost entirely anti melee). And unload is pretty decent in terms of constant pressure…
Grow up yourself, kid.
Though I agree with your second point, I still believe that Thieves simply lack a good, ranged weapon. It’s my opinion and you – surprisingly – don’t have to agree with me!
Yes, it’s that easy! Just say it, instead of insulting ppl you don’t know…unless you’re a troll or hater or something like that…
Also, I don’t know what’s your issue with Thieves bein’ hard to catch.
It’s the way they are. Hit and Run, or you Die.
Zacchary’s idea of Thief’s rifle is far from being OP or Imbalanced.
It renders them completely defensless in melee range and requires a huge amounts of initiative to inflict some serious damage.
If you’re having problems fighting thieves, then learn to play that class, srsly.
Once you figure it out that, it will be easy to predict your opponent’s next move.
Someone actually read the skills! T~T oh happy day…
I stopped doing sPvP and WvW for a while now because they are boring. WvW is zergball and musical towers and sPvP doesn’t get you anywhere while being completely monotanous with gametypes.
Yes in PvE the monsters take all of your hits but they also have around 25-30k+ HP and hit for ~2.5k or more if you are not wearing any toughness. Since thieves are squishy soloing champs more difficult than Oak in Queensdale is almost out of the question.
Then I get on other professions and its like they were never really a threat.
Well if thief gets a new weapon then it is almost guaranteed that other professions will also get access to another weapon as well. In fact, I wouldn’t care who gets what because the increased diversity would make for a nice change so bring it on.
I just want a ranged option that isn’t underwhelming and so I put this out there so anet hopefully considers it. Besides I did 35% of the work for them.
