Healing power affects certain professions more than others. coughguardscough It really all depends which profession its on.
Healing power is a useless stat for thieves. I don’t know a single thief that runs anything more than what the SA traitline gives them.
Actually Thieves can achieve immortality through healing power sets, like Apothecary. Thief healing power is extremely strong. You’re not going to kill anything very fast tho. XD
Maybe my problem was I tried clerics. Nothing was dying fast enough.
I can
Talk in
Lines too!
Its so much
Fun.
Why havn’t I tried
It
Before?
EDIT: This
Is so crazy! Like
oh my
god I think
I’ll do this
From now
On.
Quick reminder, you have aegis and protection, thieves don’t.
quick reminder, aegis doesnt block backstab (the more you know!) since it will say “block” followed by the backstab nonetheless
Quick reminder, if you see the block pop and nothing is around you press dodge.

Perfectly said. Its 2013 and they have no plans to upgrade to DX11 rofl. Milking gem store is more important than offering a smooth and fun experience for your fanbase. I wish the current team working on FF14 came for gw2, they’re doing absolutely everything possible to please their players and are already building a DX11 patch while anet doesn’t even dream about it.
What would DX11 bring to GW2? Graphics don’t make a game, gameplay does. And GW2 has the best gameplay of any MMO by a long shot.
It also has the worst aesthetics.
The fundamental problem is that it takes far more skill to kill a good thief than it does to play one. The windows of opportunity to kill one are narrow, while their margin for error is substantial.
Thief has a lower skill ceiling as well. You obviously don’t understand game design if you think that this pairing is a bad thing. It gives new players something they can pick up and feel strong/competitive with… but at the same time there are more powerful classes to have with you in a fight (but take more pratice/skill to use).
If people still don’t understand… here is a very good video on the subject:
It has a low floor, not a low ceiling. A noob can make one, copy the flavour of the month and kill people.
However, thieves will get wrecked or flee from decent/experienced players. The reason here is because thieves raw power stops progressing earlier than most professions and continues on in the realm of utility as a thief’s skill level increases. The utility side of our skills is what makes the thief devastating in knowledgeable hands.
In addition to this, thieves have to manage a universal resource to these utility-heavy skills so just spamming 1 skill will again only do so much.
EDIT: Another thing that contributes to the thief’s high skill ceiling is the fact that they are squishy, have almost no damage/CC mitigation and below average healing/cleansing (unless using s/x).
Thieves do have evades up the wazoo but since evasion periods blink in and out they can fail. They also require timing unlike mitigations which are mostly fire before and forget until off cooldown.
I would argue that it has both a low floor and ceeling.
Once another player gets above a certain skill level it becomes very hard to beat them even if the thief is equally skilled. That’s when the thief has hit the ceiling.
It would be like saying E-Honda has a high ceiling because you would need a lot of skill to beat other characters with him… and I disagree with that. Instead I see it as you’ve reached that character’s limit and are trying to push beyond that with little success (because you’ve hit the ceiling). That’s just semantics though.
A low skill cieling means that it doesn’t take much to master it but that isn’t the case though. You are probably confusing it with the low skill floor where it doesn’t take as much skill to compete.
I think Errant is trolling you guys.
Its called 1upping.
Its easier just to not care about achievements and annoying flapping Shatterer Wing reskins.
I think when I kill a hunter pet I should capture it as well.
Stop playing on machines from the late 90s. A 3rd gen intel i5 and a GTX 640 GPU will run Tequatl on max settings without breaking a sweat. The problem isn’t the servers or even the engine. It’s YOUR machine.
Source: Running Teq with no lag on max settings on a Dell XPS 8500 with a 3rd Gen i5 processor and GTX640 GPU
Not everyone has a job. Not everyone has cash. Why should I upgrade my computer for this game when it runs fine on other MMOs?
If I wanted an amazing experience, I’de just go play something else because I know it won’t happen in GW2.
A refurb’d Dell tower with a 3rd gen i5, GTX640, and 8 gigs of RAM runs for about $400. If you can’t afford an upgrade to a machine that’s an entire 18month generation out of date, I’m sorry, that sucks, but you shouldn’t complain about performance.
In general, no. However, that doesn’t change the fact that their refusal to optimize their systems is definitely going to hurt them in the long term.

I have zero because there is no reason to beyond working towards a legendary.

The entire game is a test server.
There is this one dev on TC that turns on his Anet tag and then rocks people that try to solo him. He plays a thief.
Surprise surprise, they don`t have the balls to play a balanced class ;p
2 problems here:
1.) No class is balanced.
2.) Devs do not play thieves.
I think having a “Remove a Condition on Dodge” would be good enough.
“You have my sword.”
THAT STILL ONLY COUNTS AS ONE!
YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO SAY “and my bow!”
YOU SOILED THE COMBO-STARTER!

Everyone joined a cult. You should too, lest risk being pointed at and shunned.
Apparently not since people keep kittening about it and the victims of said kittening is kittening about the kitteners kittening.
They still work good together. Had some more last night. :3
I have another one…
This thread was bound to happen.
As a ranger, I’m very Excited that we will finally be given the Priveledge of standing up to the Tyrant: Thief.
The Resistance will Never Cease!
Until we see the day of
Victory!!
Rangers,
Once and for All
Let us Unite and Honor our Fallen Brothers
You still die to d/d conditions.
I bet my dad could totally beat your dad. Na-na-naaaaaahhhh! Na-na-naaaaaahhhh! Na-na-naaaaaahhhh!
Your mom goes to college!
-50% stun and condi duration is overpowered.
Dodge builds already have enough immunity simply with evades
Thief already has decent condi clears.
…. by traiting into stealth or going s/x. The way thief is set up vs the current meta that’s really all you can do. Otherwise, thieves melt.
Another thing that people don’t understand is that evades are not like Invulnerability or stability whose effects last. There are moments between evades where a stun may break through and most of the time our evasion period doesn’t last the entire duration of the animation.
Damage avoidance doesn’t work all of the time. Damage mitigation does.
Secondly, our stun breaks do not synergize well with alot of builds save for Shadow Step. Being a utility-heavy class requires a sort of synergy between weapon skills and utilities for it to work well. Most of our stun breaks are best just slotted as stun breaks which forces us to rely on the weapon skills for utility and initiative.
Since our class is poorly designed, we are pigeon-holed into a select few builds. Hence why I am suggesting that we get some defense from metas like these.

We are all Ascalonians. Less hating, more hugging!
You give us these two traits:
Roll with the Punches (Grandmaster)
-50% stun and condition duration applied to you. Does not stack.
Cleansing Dive (Master)
Dodging removes a condition.
And in return you guys can nerf stealth more and s/x or w/e.

What about T_T, is that better? Look, the face is crying.
Nah just looks goth.
Try ;n;.
I use semicolon-en-semicolon or colon-sea for my very unhappy moments.
yes but isnt the risk/efficency scale a little bit weird?
I don’t think so. s/x was always meant to be tanky even without stealth. However LS is only best used vs boon usage. I would think s/d only seems that way because the current meta is to stack up on boons and conditions and LS negates that.
Let’s not forget Infiltrator strike which is an expensive condition removal on command.
If you want to nerf stealth then you’ll need to accept w/e compensation thieves get.
I didn’t know that nerfing the most overpowered and cheesy hard counter in the game warrants compensation?
But sure, give stealth a decent counter and reset revealed to 1.5 seconds for all I care. I just want a proper counter to that broken mechanic.
The spies in TF2 are a very good example of how stealth should work in this game too. Risk and reward have to be balanced, stealth in GW2 carries almost no risk but is one of the most powerful mechanics in the game.
All classes have a bit of OP in them. In fact, if you make an engi and play it properly, about 99% of the thieves you face will melt.
EDIT: I am not saying that engis are OP in general, but the way people throw around the term “Overpowered” in these forums engis are definitely OP vs a thief.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
It is strong because alot of people know how to use it like the last meta.
I am sorry that l read this thread..!!
Zacchary has this new pic craze going on
You should try gifs. They are much more amusing.

I’m sorry I didn’t go easy on you. I forgot.
I welcome this update regardless of how much failing at anything disappoints me. It breaks people out of their comfort zone which is something that needs to be done.
They show my support.
“Please enjoy this complimentary of our guild” is nice, but what if these things could be leveraged in such a way as to help organize server-wide events?

I’m a pretty laid back guy In Real Life. People get mad at me at work, but I’m cool as a cucumber and genuinely polite regardless. They can say whatever, it don’t hurt me none. On the other hand, there is one particular person that can set me off in an instant: my wife.
It’s not because we have a bad relationship, in fact it’s quite the opposite. And that, therein lies the problem: I simply care too much. Her approval, her opinions of me matter more than anything. So any negative comment about me – perceived or real – really hurts my feelings. And sometimes I can’t hide that, and I shout “Your mom goes to college!” (that’s a huge insult).
So I’ve been sitting here reading the boards, getting pretty annoyed by some of you, grateful towards others I agree with, and it occurred to me I’m not being myself. After a quick self-diagnosis it dawned in me – why do I get so upset about a video game? …because I LOVE this game!
No matter if I strongly agree or disagree with someone’s statements, we all have our reasons why we love this game, and whenever one of those reasons’ existence seems to be threatened by Anet or other players’ QQing, we’re all like “oh HALES no they didn’t”! So we debate, do a little QQ ourselves and passionately type till we’re blue in the fingers.
Now I’m sure many of you already figured that out, maybe I’m just slow riding the short bus to school. But i thought i’d share my revelation, hopefully giving someone else a chance to step back for a moment and laugh at our collective sensitivity over…a video game.
FUN FACT: This explains why I troll.
BAN OP, NERF THIEVES!!!!!!111
Actually nvm. It’s not enough. BAN EVERYONE ABOVE ME! BAN EVERY THIEF IN GAME! REMOVE THIEVES! HEAVY ARMOR FOR EVERY CLASS!
ALL THIEVES SHOULD PERMADELETE THEIR COMPUTERS! THEY SO OHPEE!!!@@!one
Thieves with rifle?
Ridiculous!
Completli out of Thief theme :/So is everything else. Don’t forget we DO NOT have a 1200 range option. Rifle sounds better than Longbow anyway.
Let me see…
shadow pursuit = 10 000
shadowstep = 1200
steal = 1500
some skills have 900, but thieves blinks all time. This class just get close at speed of light.
Those are gap closers which have a completely opposite goal from what I am offering. Nice try.

Youre missing a perma stealth build. Equip a dagger/pistol, then use #5, followed by 4 #2 inside the circle. You need to have Infusion of Shadows and Meld with Shadows to pull it off, and a lot of training. (its way easier to do against a wall or a corner). Doing so will grant you 8 seconds of stealth, and by the time its ends you will be at full initiative again, allowing to continue doing it permanently.
It also helps to equip a stealth utility, such as last refuge, blinding powder or even your heal for when you mess up your stealth combo.
If should also consider traiting stealth to remove conditions and heal your life, making it a very powerful defensive mechanism.
A better permastealth build is one with really high initiative regen so that CnD can be used each time you leave stealth.
It is a little challenging but it is fun to do nonetheless.
