Taking damage brought one out of stealth, unless vanish was just used. Here, we got thieves stealthing, then stealthing right after their first stealth runs out. I guess we all have to spend money to beat a class…
Thieves are squishy and have zero mitigation. Stealth does not make them invulnerable or immortal because they still take damage in stealth. If they didn’t have stealth, the class wouldn’t be able to survive and the profession would be completely useless.
If you think thieves have zero mitigation then you are doing something wrong.
You don’t even know what damage mitigation is.
it’s much much better to take a noob warrior or a noob guardian, than a noob thief
now you tell me if this is balanced
The only thief that can dungeon effectively is a good thief and we all know how rare that species is.
In short: Different layers to Tyria under the surface with different themes – Crystalline, Magma – where special ore (and other mats) can be found to craft similarly themed items.
More DEPTH: There are caves in the game, but imagine this: You explore a cave, find a crack, and through the crack you find a tunnel deeper into the cave. Down, down you go until you find an opening with crystalline formations all around. Here and there are a few veins of unique crystalline ore that can be used to make similarly themed gear. But between you and them are many monsters. As you make your way to the back of this opening you find another crevice in the wall. Through here you go deeper and deeper. Again it opens up but this time to magma pools and smoke. Not for nothing though, there are even more precious magma/volcanic ore that can be used to craft similarly themed gear with smoldering smoke rolling off of it and magma dropping from it. It’s a dangerous journey though, as there are no way-points, but very lucrative if you can survive!
In addition there could be unique aquatic ore that only forms underwater. Maybe in obscure caverns to again craft similarly themed gear dripping with water.
(With a little creativity, mats for other crafts could also be found from these places)
Make some noise if you’d like to see this implemented!
Also, LOL @ Sanduskal posting his usual kitten about how stealth is a scrub crutch (only scrubs don’t use every mechanic to their advantage), and now spreading lies that you canaattack while stealthed and remain in stealth without any explanation or evidence.
I think we ignored him for too long. Our bad :/

I don’t care tbh. Having my name on here is not going to stop me from telling stupid people they’re stupid.
Venoms have a classic design problem. They are balanced so that thieves with all the venom traits are not overpowered, however this means that venom skills themselves are poor. Instead the venom skills should be worth a slot without any traits and then given a reasonable boost by better designed traits.
This essentially means that the existing venom traits are too strong. Clearly though the venom skills have to be improved before making the venom traits weaker.
Same with thief signets. They suck overall save for maybe Infiltrator’s Signet (stun break), Signet of Malice (best signet thieves have) and Signet of Agility (endurance refill) but when you trait them with Signet Use and Signets of Power they become viable. Aside from the stat boosts I would not equip most of them…. ever.
Warriors don’t need precision gear. They can easily get up to 50% without needing more than 20-30 trait points.
Thieve can’t afford to sacrifice power for tanky stats and precision.

Well yeah, stats adjust when in a group or crowd and buffs flying around. You just discovered 100% crit? You must have never played a stealth thief yet.
I don’t think you have either. 100% crit rate all of the time >> 100% for one attack.
100% every third hit, and on a bonus hit, it comes really quick. Can keep it going maintaining initiative. No need for someone standing behind you providing buffs to get 100%. One attack? Yeah you haven’t played a stealth thief.
I crit more per second with 40%+ crit rate than using the 100% crit rate trait.
So I finally got a reply to a serious question I posed on Chris’ topic in General Discussion. Thief forum will finally get a dev sometime in the near future!
Here is the screeny and my reaction to it.

Are there going to be devs for each profession that frequently visit the profession forums so that those players may collaborate with them to hopefully make their professions more enjoyable?
Please….?
Absolutely .I hope we can role this initiative out to all the separate forums and perhaps even create new forums with the intention being that specialist devs in each area will be attached to a particular forum on an ongoing basis (-:
The initial plan is essentially a test to see how the process works, which we will evolve based on discussion with each other.
Hope that makes sense? I am in between meetings and running around (-:
I love the pic by the way. Dogs Rock!

Does that hair add extra conditioner damage?
Yes. 9001 conditioner damage.

Having played other classes, that’s not really unique to thieves. They all face those trade offs, except perhaps warriors.
The tradeoffs are not as harsh in other professions in fact every other class tends to retain some versatility. I can’t say much for necro since I have never played one. :I
There are many options yes but think about what you give up by taking them. 5 initiative to cleanse 1 condition, 20 trait points to make up for the initiative to cleanse 1 trait, using up a trait slot for initiative regen instead of a trait that enhances survivability, using 20 points for initiative regen instead of for damage or more survivability, etc.
Most of the thief traits are so underwhelming that the only way anyone would want to use them is by combining them with other like it. For instance, Assassin’s Reward. It heals a small amount of damage per initiative used. With 1500 healing, it will heal 121.5 per initiative. If the rate of initiative consumption was constant, your HPS would be 91.125 untraited. Not only that, the best initiative regen build I know of is traited signets (20 in CS and 30 in Trick). With that build, you’ll need Signet Use and Hastened Repenishment so SoM can give 6 ini every 12 seconds however, you remove the passive effect when you do which is the best thing to couple AW with for almost constant healing.
I understand that thieves have the options but then there are other options that are much better. Seriously, thieves make the worst hybrids.
But unlike other classes, thieves have to gear and trait heavily into combat aspects to be any good in those aspects. The problem with that however is that everything else suffers the more you invest.
Fleet of foot only works on dodging and not evade moves and besides, its a master trait.
The only way to get competitive condition removal on a thief is to use s/x or trait condition removal on stealth and then use condition removal utilities. This would give thieves a non-stealth/non-s:x option for condition removals.
The reason I suggested an icd was to make it so it wasnt spammable. People would really kitten about that.
Deleted. I still stand by what I said.
Most gamers can’t handle failure. Or stat optimization for that matter. Most games that are sold as “RPGs” are little more than Action games with costumes.
If you want to play a real RPG, you still have to go back to pen and paper because games where you can fail don’t sell, and games that don’t sell don’t get made.
Yup.
The new generation of gamers have got to be by far the most spoiled and half brain dead zombies I have ever seen. Rewards are expected for doing tasks that require ZERO cognitive functions.
I know right? This is what happens when you give people what they want when they have no clue what they really want.
“Press my easy button for me, Anet!!! >:c”
there is already a trait for might on dodge
Instead of removing cripple and weakness with a 10s CD, have it remove a condition with a 2s CD.
Wow….. even your misses crit. CRITICAL MISS!!!
Chris I just wanna know:
when can the thief forum expect to see more red posts? There are a few things that we need to talk about. LOTS of a few things.
I believe that the Healing Power attribute (Compassion?) should be paired with Precision instead of Toughness.
This would allow for more diverse builds, since if I want to stack Healing Power really high, I am forced to give up something offensive.
By pairing Healing Power with an offensive trait (I suppose it could also be paired with Power – I just chose Precision because I prefer crits and on-crit runes, like Generosity) I can take it – or Toughness – while still getting some offensive power.
In fact, let’s extend this argument to every defensive trait for the Thief:
All of them should be paired with an offensive trait.
Vitality should be paired with either condition dmg or condition duration. Power should be paired with toughness or healing power, as should precision.

“I feel… strong!”
256 characters is not enough.
You don’t need fury after 70% crit rate. Put more into survivability stats.
I roll Rifle/Rifle and Hammer/Mace/Greatsword and 30/30/30/30/30. Its a fairly balanced build.
In exchange 100b should have a 1s cooldown and not root!
That’s a specific form of “elitist” whose label is blocked out by this forum’s word filter. It starts with an A. :3
Amg, I am TRYING to get some red posts on here. Be patient. =w=

I main a thief and I would break my mouse clicking +1 for this if I was anyone else.
The build looks highly experimental. But I have to say you got farther than me when I first tested out d/d conditions.
Because then anet would have to remove the range nerf they put on every shortbow skills set.
It probably seems as though it never crits because the damage is so minute. However I run with 40% crit chance minimum and I can tell you I have seen it crit…. for ~230.
In fact I have seen Critical Haste proc right after I shot black powder.
Hi all,
For the talent Ankle shots in the critical strikes tree…
Critical hits with a pistol have a 60% chance to cripple foes for 3s. (Cooldown of 10 seconds).
… does this only apply to pistols in main hand or to both main and off hand pistols?
Thanks in advance :
In practice, it is difficult to notice a 3s cripple done by your off-hand pistol since the only damage skill is Headshot. The trigger of this trait is more noticeable when using Unload.
However, there are far better trait that you can use to cripple your target. Uncatchable is far better option because it’s not limited by an internal cooldown and no RNG — Ankle shot has double layer RNG (crit chance and 60% chance off of crit).
Black powder does damage.
I think all our problems would eventually be solved if anet played the thief.
Won’t happen, they’re all too busy playing warriors.
Did i do this right?
Well I do. Thieves are the only class without a 1200 range option and I feel that adding in longbow when we already have a shortbow would be a little redundant.
Anyway, I would also like to see a much better Sword/Empty set and perhaps wield the sword as though it was a greatsword.
I think all our problems would eventually be solved if anet played the thief.
