This is such a good idea that I already +1ed before I +1ed it!
They should have all of the tabs minimized by default so I don’t have to sift through 600 items just to make a sword.
TBH the general consensus in the thief community is that the initiative system is the thief’s primary mechanic.
All stealing is is fire and forget RNG. Doesn’t even compare to the initiative system but arenanet coaxes us to use it with things like mug and other traits that make one semi-useless button do so much, like with signets or venoms.
Aside from larcenous strike and stealing, there is nothing that makes a the thief a “thief”. Its an assassin with sticky fingers. With that said I think anything is fair game with this class.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
No. It isn’t esports or living story.
I have no clue why the thief tearbucket wagon is still rolling along. Like, I have finally got off my main for a week and managed to level up my guard to 80. Now I am working on my War (lvl 28) and looking back on their growth I have come to realize that THOSE TWO ARE THE MOST NO-BRAIN CLASSES EVER.
I managed to do things on my guard and war that I have never been able to do on my thief for example:
- Soloing champs a few levels higher than me. (guard)
- Soloing the Naegling giant. (war)
- Hitting consistant 1k damage at lvl 20. (war)
- Keeping HP above 80% with valk gear all the time. (guard)
- Near-permaswiftness while maintaining viability. (guard and war)
- Killing everything by slapping the hotkeys. I did that for teh lulz and it still worked >.<
Oh and I also have not touched my mesmer in a while. You know what I did with him?
- Solo ALL the champs! _o/
- Not getting hit while I solo ALL the champs! _o/
But I main an OP class. kitten me, right?
Then I apologize.
However thieves are supposed to have the greatest in combat movement and every 3 skill has some form of evade added to it. EVERY weapon set has an evade or some sort of damage avoidance.
interesting ideas, but if you use the #4 or #5 skills I think you would need to get the revealed debuff after using them, and upon activation, not the whole time its being used would have to give off some visual trigger. I also don’t see the close range weakness in this I would actually think of this as more of a strength (especially in Spvp) you could do a massive burst using the 5 skill from rifle get up and use roll for inititive or other ways to quickly regain initiative and follow it up with 2+ hearseekers (after switching to dagger pistol or dagger dagger) would make this a dangerous very possibly OP burst.
You just broke #4.
Thief profession is best profession for thief….. :P
jking
if you are talking about traitlines then investing some in either Acrobatics or Shadow Arts in needed for anything.
What you are asking for is:
- Long range;
- With HUGE DAMAGE;
- Whilst spamming the same one skill over and over for said HUGE DAMAGE
- While still being allowed to shadow step and stealth
This is how I know you havn’t read anything in this post and don’t know what you are talking about.
- The only thing that can be spammed here is 1, 2 and 3. They are weak.
– 4 and 5 root you for 5 seconds minimum and require the entire bar to get the best effect.
– And there is a built in weakness: Close Range Combat.
It would really be helpful if the temple of Balthazar in Cursed Shores is once a month uncontested so that characters like me can obtain obsidian shards with karma instead of laurels or move the laurel vendor somewhere else because the temple is always contested and a kitten to uncontest it. Too much is in demand for laurels so it would be helpful for people to get them without having to use all their laurels up and not have enough to make the ascended weapons. I mean, how would you feel if you had to constantly wait for your laurel acct to escalate so you have enough to refine the ore, wood, etc., and setting up one character in order to get jewelry (amulets, rings, and earrings) for agony resistance going into the mists, and to acquire the maximum magic find for that character beyond the 300 level to get better stuff.
Also, it would help if you didn’t make the empyreal fragments so many to make a star in order to make a vision crystal. I mean 500 fragments to make just one crystal. Isn’kitten bit excessive.
Buy boxes. They drop often enough.
I am currently using PVT/Valk with s/p.
Have you paid more for gems than a sub fee in the past year?

Did he say S/D is the only Viable Thief spec? Do these people actually go read the forums of the classes they play or just go to other classes they don’t and comment?
Yes S/D is the only good spec, theres P/D condi but its way too complicated on a thief, roll warr or necro for this.
That’s a load of bull dude. D/P is also extremely viable, and d/d isn’t completely non-viable.
D/D is the bread and butter of the thief build and its still meh. D/P Is nice but unless you trait for initiative regen the high cost just to stealth can be better replaced with x/d.
The reasons why is:
1.) Only class without a 1200 range terrestrial weapon.
Disclaimer: Thieves never go underwater unless they are stupid or experts at underwater combat.
2.) All of our ranged options are weak and our list of viable builds is shriveling up.
Disclaimer: 1500 steal trait isn’t a counter to not needing better ranged combat.
3.) Its also a chance to change how initiative can be spent which I have done for you.
I have designed this to have a 1-skill that changes depending on distance, a weak attack that ignores armor and 2 skills that are powerful but they root and eat up initiative like its nothing so in my eyes the two skills have high risk/reward.
Now here is the thing: I don’t balance so what I am about to post isn’t subject to any Overpowered complaints.
1close) Spray and Pray
Blast your enemy with a cloud of Bird Shot that makes them vulnerable. Close range only.
Cooldown: 1/2s
Damage: 146 (.3)
Range: 400 Cone
2 Vulnerability: 6s
1mid) Pot Shot
Who cares what happens! As long as it hits them, right? Medium range only.
Cooldown: 3/4s
Damage: 295 (.35)
Range: 401-800
50% chance to bounce per hit. (3 max)
1long) Cover Fire
Support your team from a distance. Long range only.
Cooldown: 3/4s
Damage: 452 (.45)
Range: 801-1200
1stealth) Bullet to the Knee
End their adventuring days with a high caliber bullet to their kneecap.
Damage: 612 (.35)
Range: 1200
Cripple: 8s
2) Drill Shot (4 initiative)
Shoot a piercing round that punches holes through armor and ignores armor ratings a little.
Charge: 1s
Damage: 220 (.2)
Armor Rating set to 1500.
Range: 1200
3a) Shadow Retreat (3 initiative)
Shadowstep directly away from target (like a kitten). Turns into Shadow Return.
Range: 600
3b) Shadow Return
Return to the spot where you acted like a bit…. I mean Shadowstepped from. Remove 1 Condition.
Range: 1200
4) Ghillie Suit (5 initiative)
Go prone and become one with your environment. Initiative regen stops. Movement and skill activation breaks stance and Camouflage.
Initiative Drain: 1 per second
Camouflage: 2s
Camouflage: 1s per initiative spent while in stance.
5a) Snipe (7 initiative)
Kneel down and line up your shot with your target’s vitals. Initiative regen stops. Movement and skill activation breaks stance. Turns into Fire.
Initiative Drain: 1 per second
5b) Fire
Shoot the bullet that may very well end your target’s life. Gains range and strength the more initiative is spent while Snipe is active. Automatically fires when initiative hits 0.
Damage: 1028 (.4)
Range: 1200
Bonus Damage: 2% per initiative spent
Bonus Range: 200 per initiative spent
Bonus Crit Chance: 1% per initiative spent(5 max)
5 Bleeding: 10s
Ideas for Traits:
>Penetrating Rounds: Rifle attacks pierce.
>Dark Rounds: Rifle attacks inflict Blind. 33% chance.
>Ankle Shots (revamp): Pistol and Rifle crits have a 60% chance to Cripple for 3s. (CD 10s)
>Sprinting: +10% running speed while wielding a Rifle.
>Steady Breathing: 10% damage with rifles. All attacks with the rifle take 1/4s longer. Ghillie Suit and Snipe have a 20% chance to not drain initiative each second.
>Custom Magazine: Rifle attacks have a chance to inflict Bleeding (5s), Vulnerability (5s), Weakness (2s), Blind (5s) and/or Cripple (5s) on crit. Each condition is applied randomly. 15% chance for each condition.
>Target Acquired: Targets that take damage from your traps become marked for 5 seconds. The next rifle attack deals 10% more damage.
> High-powered Scope: Increase Rifle range to 1500. Decrease rifle range bonus to 150 per initiative spent while Snipe is active.

Make yourself look pretty/dashing.
They probably have class bias too.
Yup they do it’s why the thiefs are still OP and rangers still suck
We are cornered into 2 builds. Are we still OP? Only 2 viable and strong builds and 75% of useless crap seems balanced to me.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that one of those 2 builds are going to get nerfed soon so maybe 1.5 viable builds.
There are low population servers? I rarely see them as low as medium, and high seems to be the average.
That is because the capacity for each server is different. You might see medium+ across the board but the number of accounts on each server is vastly different.
if you’re calculation is correct! well it really needs a major buff! i tried this trait before but i didn’t like it seems like a useless Master trait. or they shud move this to adept trait.
They need to buff the base heal and perhaps double the modifier. It is so underwhelming.
No sense.
Warrior is weapon master, thief isn’t.
-5s cd in weapon swap make thieves ridiculously op vs me.
fixed*
(69 amirite + Healing(.035)) * initiative spent with 1500 healing is:
69 + 52.5 = 121.5 for each initiative spent
1458 for 12 initiative spent, 1822 for 15.
Initiative regens at 1 point every 1.33 seconds for a total of 16 seconds for 12 and 20 seconds for 15. Assuming you are using a MAX initiative regen build, maintaining max gain/usage and hack GW2 so that you have 1500 healing and Assassin’s Reward active for this build you have:
Regular Regeneration: .75 ini/sec
Signet of Malice: .5 ini/sec
Roll for Initiative: .1 ini/sec
Infusion of Shadows: .5 ini/sec if chaining CnD back to back.
Patience: .33 ini/sec
Shadow Refuge: ~.1 ini/sec.
Infiltrator’s Signet: .1 ini/sec
That’s ~2.38 initiative a second give or take some RNG. 289 HP a second on an impossibility. IMPOSSIBILITY.
Does anyone even care to use it?
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
Wow that mesmer is afraid of you.
Roll a stunlock warrior.
Everything Else: Shortbow
kittens or gtfo :3
They probably have class bias too.
I had a dream that my Charr was transformed into a Nightelf… OMG it was horrible…
Maybe your nightelf was a druid transformed into a charr? Think about it.
I want my free everythings right now too!
Because less people play them.
Being non-humanoid hasn’t got anything to do with it, their artists aren’t amateurs.
How about not treating the 10% of people with very fatal but easily curable diseases because there are less of them?
Legendaries were a poorly designed and executed concept. They would be alot better if they weren’t just rainbow-themed skins with a purple name.
EDIT: I propose we just call them “purples” instead of legendaries because there is nothing legendary about them.
No thieves do not need to be nerfed. They need to be redesigned
When Thieves will be “redesigned”, if i won’t be able to go 1 v 4 and manage to kill one guy every now and then without taking the slightest risk of being downed, then yes, i see it as a Nerf. Because that’s what Nerf mean.
People like you are the reason gw2 and othe mmo’s are so unbalanced
Peoples like you are the reason why we can’t discuss about broken classes (Any, classes)
Has anyone else experienced this with their friends?
My entire guild is dead. 20% of my friend list still remains.
Is LS really a reason not to return?
Nope. Temp content is nothing to get excited about especially when the game remains unpolished.
(edited by Zacchary.6183)
Imagine 3 rings of enemies surrounding your character. Here is how it prioritizes targets:
1.) Non-threatening npc to the left of your character.
2.) Hostile NPC out of range of your long ranged attack while wielding melee.
3.) Hostile NPC behind you.
4.) Do not target.
5.) Critter.
6.) Target directly in front of your camera.
Discreet invitation to return to the topic at hand, backed up by a tastefully lighthearted joke about the second poster’s inability to create a concise reply.
A sarcastic compliment to your ability to revive dead topics coupled with a relevant picture.
Can’t stand SAB, if I wanted to play 16 bit CRAP I’d sell my PC and go back to playing Mario Brothers and Ms. Pac Man on the Nintendo.
You wouldn’t be playing GW2 if it weren’t for “16-bit crap”. :3
The only reason why a precursor wont drop for me is because Lady RNG knows I am going to use it to make a legendary and then make her look really bad.
It isn’t living story or esports so they wont do it.

Legendaries are a stupid concept.
Please stay on the topic. Otherwise we’ll have to close this thread. Thank you.
Dear Moderator, you should have closed this thread long ago, since it’s just a flaming thread with no meaning at all.
Nobody likes thieves. Not even the mods.
As we know, sylvari don’t have red salty blood like mammals. There are golden sap in their veins. And we have maple syrop and birch sap (and maybe another) to eat in real world. Sylvari sap must be even sweeter, because they need more energy than trees, and sugar is a source of the energy.
:3 /plateofwaffles
I think aggro instantly shifts to thieves because anet hates them.
“Our data suggests that very few players play as mobs, therefore improving them is low on our priority list.”
“Our data suggests that very few people are suseptable to/have the bubonic plague, therefore treating them is low on our priority list.”
It has no purpose.
You realize that the edible parts of most plants are actually the gonads? Call them seeds, or fruit if you like, but what you are eating are the reproductive organs.
But if you want to eat out a Sylvari, be my guest…
Thats why I make sure the sylvari look more like a head of lettuce or some spinach.
There is this thing called the thief QQ train. Scrubs like to ride it alot. You are all wrong.
I think that if there was a “Remove a condition on dodge.” trait we’de be golden.
0/0/0/0/0 naked and pistol/nothing
Number 2 already exists. :I
The blue dorito and a mindless army.
